Worked fine in frigidare dishwasher.Color is slightly different that current one (a little darker).Don't know if that's because the old one had been used for several years or they just make them slightly darker now. It's almost completely coverd, so it doesn't matter.I accidentally damaged the clips on the top so had to replace. This replacement worked great. Not the sellers fault, but knocked it one star because it costs more than a simple piece of plastic should.

  • Preserve wine for 10 days
  • Chill unopened wine
  • Holds 2 bottles
  • No stoppers, pumps or gases required
  • Silent Cooling Technology

I carefully researched the product prior to purchase and was concerned about some of the negative reviews that I read. However, the ability to store AND preserve a couple of open bottles was all too tempting to pass up! I was well aware about the "condensation" issues many reviewers complained about. I was NOT prepared for problems a mere 5 months after purchasing the system.

It started with the power cord and charger malfunctioning. There is no means by which to contact Eurocave directly. There is no phone number on their web site. I was not able to get assisstance through the vendor I bought the product from since they are not a distributor. I ended up callingthe Wineenthusiast for help. They were wonderful and fixed the issued by selling me a new charger and power cord.

Now the indicator light on the control panel is flashing red continually and the oxygen vacuum extraction system no longer works. The Wineenthusiast has no solution except for buying another one to replace mine. Another $400 some dollars for a potentially malfunctioning system??? I am still in shock that there is no recourse to address the problem. I DO NOT recommend this product, nor the vendor as they have non-existent customer service.

I bought this item for my husband for Christmas 2008. It works great and extends the life of wine enabling you to have a glass of white or red or preserve two reds. The "malfunctioning" of the air seal mentioned is not really a malfunction if you push one of the tops down. It will continue to try to suck the air out of a bottle that's not there. Also, you need to remove the foil at the top of the bottle so it can seal properly. I'm surprised that one customer had a hard time with Wine Enthusiast. I had some questions for them regarding this unit and they were very helpful. Very satisfied with this product.

Bought this for my husband for Christmas and loved it for 10 days until it malfunctioned. Thus far I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to reach Wine Enthusiast.I have been left on hold indefinitely and no one has responded to my e-mail.Customer support has been more disappointing than the actual wine bar itself.Still stuck with a broken expensive product.

Bottom line Don't buy this!

You can imagine my excitement the day I opened my EuroCave SoWinewine preserver.I could now safely store open bottles of both red and white wine in an attractive, boastful mechanical marvel. The gift was for Christmas 2009 and showed a manufacturing date of 9/2008.Coming from a small wine shop, I guess that they did not sell a lot of these.

I plugged the unit in per the instructions, and immediately I heard a loud clattering noise and the indicator lights began flashing in error.I understand how products sometimes are defective, especially when they are imported from faraway locations as France.

It went back to the wine shop in January 2010.Of course they did not have a replacement on hand, but ordered one for me.The new one arrived in March 2010, again with a manufacturing date of 9/2008.They must have made a lot of these back then.

It worked great! My white wines were chilled to perfection, the reds kept at room temperature.Three months later the indicator lights started flashing in error again, the vacuum pump refused to turn off and the chiller stopped working.

I went back to the wine shop in June 2010 for another replacement. This time it took 4 months for the new one to arrive. As I unpacked it, I noticed the manufacturing date again 9/2008!!This one seemed to do the trick, but only lasted 3 months. The left hand indicator light stays on the white wine setting, the left on the red wine setting. They both flashed and could not be changed. It didn't matter as the cooler and warmer didn't work anyway. The pump continued to run and the sound of the machine was annoying.

When I returned to the wine shop, they were out of business.I tried contacting the manufacturer in France without success. There are no service centers in the United States. The Wine Enthusiast company (The name appearing on the box) are only retailers and offered me a discount on a new one.

I unplugged this piece of crap and now store red wine in it as it does keep it at room temperature so does my kitchen counter for that matter.

My advice:If you are thinking about buying this, you would be better purchasing a $334.78 bottle of fine wine, knowing in advance that you will be pissing your money away the next morning.

This product is great until it stops working. Mine has been repaired twice and still does not work properly. It is evidently a very delicate product that does not stand heavy use. Better buy a regular wine fridge and a manual pump..

One of my tracks broke at the front end due to fatigue from the open drawer hanging on it. I discovered that the left and right bracket are the same, so I swapped them. Now the broken part of one track is at the rear where it doesn't matter. A little black ABS cement from your local hardware store will work to glue the broken piece back on (tracks are ABS, not PVC, and white ABS glue cannot be found). I avoided having to buy a new track for the time being and the drawer slides just fine. While researching for a replacement, I found Amazon is the best price I could find.

The vendor did a wonderful job shipping as soon as I ordered. Much faster than another company that claimed the product was in-stock but in fact waited over 8 weeks to get it from a distributor.

These tracks did not fit directly in my refrigerator. They have extra round knobs on each end that get in the way. After I sawed and filed those down, they fit perfectly. Apparently Whirlpool has changed the design of some components and not others. Now the track fits and holds the drawer securely.

Reading up a bit on the internet, it seems the Whirlpool Side by Side refrigerators have a tendency for the fridge side light and temperature control panel to go out, with this unit being the culprit.(You'll find it in a small white plastic box, near the compressor, in the back of the fridge on the lower left side). Our fridge was a 2005 model, and the equivalent unit was on a white circuit board, with a slightly different arrangement of the capacitors and resistors compared to the picture here. But, this replacement does indeed work and fit in the white box.It is a fairly quick and simple fix, so well-worth just buying the unit and trying it yourself. Here's hoping with the redesign it lasts a little longer than 7 years.

Kitchenaid KBCS24RSBS Freestanding or Built-In Architect Series II

Kitchenaid KBCS24RSBS Freestanding or Built-In Architect Series II
  • Offers 3 zone chilling for personalized use
  • Contemporary design flatters decor
  • Removable racks provide custom storage options
  • Capable of storing up to 22 bottles of wine
  • Adjustable thermostat allows for complete temperature control

First, this has been a great addition to our kitchen/bar area. The kids love the easy access and my wife and I use it nearly every day as we store coffee creamer and other 'morning beverages'. She loves the separate wine storage areas, which do work great for parties.

The unit looks excellent installed, and the two pull-out shelves shown in the pictures are stain-grade wood. I haven't stained mine to match our cabinetry yet, but it is on my to-do list! Using the fridge is as easy as setting the temperature dial, deciding what units you want the temperature displayed in (centigrade or fahrenheit) and loading it up.

So far the unit has kept temperatures right at the design spec at maximum cool. The cold section remains 37 (98% of the time), the white wine drawer (there's only one of these) stays at 48, and the red wine section which is one pull out shelf and one crappy wire shelf at the bottom that comes out but not easily stays a nice 57 degrees. I have not put in my own thermometer to check the accuracy of the displayed temperatures, but by going on feel alone the wines and beverages are at the correct temperatures.

The bottom shelf design is what keeps me from giving this unit 5 stars. It would have been so nice had Kitchenaid designed the fridge so that the bottom shelf pulled out like the two wood-front shelves shown in the picture. The two wood shelves slide out nicely on rails. The bottom shelf rests on the bottom of the unit, has rubber pieces on the sides, and is a pain in the rear end to pull out when loaded with wine bottles. There are two 'stops' on each side of the bottom that have to be overcome to get the shelf out far enough to read the bottle and/or get the wine out easily. Bad design, and really one of only two things I can find fault with.

The second issue, which may or may not be by design, is that the temperature will rise on it's own (without using the fridge or adding room temperature beverages to it) to approximately 43 degrees in the cold section. It does this periodically almost as if it's a normal cycle to remove moisture. It doesn't stay at this temperature for very long, but it does do this on a somewhat regular basis. That being said, 98% of the time the cold section is 37 degrees plus 1 or 2 degrees occasionally.

When loading the unit with canned drinks, wines or other beverages after a store run, it really doesn't take very long to cool things back down. The temperature will noticeably rise for a short time with the warmer items, but not for long.

As I stated above, we're going on almost two years, and the fridge has been a wonderful, useful addition. I waffled back and forth about getting a wine refrigerator or beverage center, and I'm very glad we went with the beverage center option.

If it keeps going another year or more without needing repairs I'll be happy. I have read a lot of negative reviews on wine refrigerators. Reliability does seem to be an issue, even with some Kitchenaid models. However, not even Viking or $3000 brands are without their share of negative reviews. Crossing my fingers that we'll get many more years use out of this great little unit.

I'd recommend this to anyone refinishing a kitchen or simply adding an area for a bar. I would not use this outside even under a covered porch. It's simply not designed to withstand the elements in that way.

Good luck in your search, and if it ends here I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Update: December 3, 2012. The Beverage center is still performing well. The temperature of the cold section stays between 37 and 39 most of the time, but still rises to 41 for a short time every few days. Still pleased with the purchase, and I'd still buy it again.

The inside cavity is large and very well lighted.Very convenient. The front panel is not exactly easy to read, and to decipher what the buttons are and what they are for.The exhaust fan is reasonably quiet, but does not draw very well. There are minimal descriptions--just a flimsy 6 page handout type paper-on what the microwave is,what it does, and how to operate it.We called Maytag customer service, and there is no other manual or instructions available.I would not recommend it.

This microwave is very sturdy. The door sounds solid when closed and the oven is working well. When it arrived there was no visible damage to the packaging but significant denting of the back left outside of the cabinet. The interior was not damaged so the installer straightened the cover as well as he could and installed it as planned. When installed that damage was concealed. The company that shipped it to me responded to my report of damage and gave me a 10% credit on the purchase price even though I could not substantiate it with a photo as requested.(I could not justify hiring the installer to come back and uninstall it.)There is also a very small ding in the ss cover near the controls panel. My suggestion is that they doublecheck their packaging procedures but I am pleased with the looks and the operation of the microwave itself.

The product comes like the description says, it works perfect and it arrives on time, no problems with any thing

NewAir AW-180E Space Saver 18 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, Black

NewAir AW-180E Space Saver 18 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, Black
  • Easy-to-use push button controls make adjusting the temperature simple & quick
  • Offers a compact, freestanding design with a single zone compartment that holds up to 18 bottles of your favorite wine
  • Thermoelectric technology features few moving parts for quiet & vibration free operation, enhancing the natural flavors of your wine
  • Boasts a sleek look with a black trimmed door, silver handle & five chrome-plated wine racks
  • Allows for nearly silent operation that wont disturb quiet spaces in your home

I've only had this wine fridge for a short time, so I can't comment on its reliability (our last one which we purchased at Lowes lasted about 6 months). It looks good, is a convenient, compact size and seems to work well. But there's no way you can fit 18 bottles in it unless they're slim such as the standard Bordeauxand Alsace shapes. The chubbier Burgundy size and anything larger just won't fit. The only way to get them in is to remove every second rack and make sure you lie slim and chubby bottles side by side. Makes it closer to a 10-12 bottle fridge.

This is the second wine cellar I have purchased in the last 3 years and I researched this for a week. The last wine cellar I had was a bust from Oster, a great Black Friday deal but stopped working after 6 months. My experience was that it took several hours to cool down and it was realy picky about the ambient temperature. Just a little dust on the back cover sent the internal temp upward and really, all I wanted was chilled wine!!! After all my research, I kept coming back to this model. This has the "look" I wanted for my kitchen but I had never owned a product by this company. I did read the other reviews regarding the humming sound it makes but in my position my previous wine cellar sounded like a jet taking off each time you opened the door to get out a bottle of wine and it had to kick in to lower the internal temp again.

When I first unpacked the NewAir cellar, my first thought was wow, this is beautiful!! I got it set in it's new home by the wet bar and plugged it in. Gorgeous!! The temperature starting out showed 74 degrees and it was automatically set to go down to 54 degrees. And it got to 54 degrees....in 30 minutes!!!! I was shocked!! So by that time, I loaded about 10 bottles of wine into the cellar. It took about 1 1/2 hours total to chill all that wine that had been at room temperature. I am very impressed with this machine. As for the humming sound, I have yet to hear it. I know it is working because the wine is cold, but not sure what the other reviewer were describing...maybe my kitchen is just noisy!!hahaahaha

Anyway, I would not hesitate to recommend this cellar and will follow up in a few months with an additional review.

09/14/10 UPDATE:

As promised, I wanted to give an update on the New Air Wine Cooler. It is still as great as when I first got it. Because it is thermoelectric, dust does affect the temperature and I noticed that when we were finishing our kitchen remodel, all the dust from sawing wood and drywall did cause the temp to raise a few degrees. I just blew out the back and within 30 seconds the temp started to drop back to 52. Now when I see the temp go up to 53 or 54 I know it is time to blow out the back cover. I would say I do that once every 3 months and for the record, I feel like our house has an inordinate amount of dust year round so in a house with less dust this may not even be needed. I am still very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it.

I bought this just over a year ago woke up one morning and it wasn't working no cool air, no led display. No reset button, no apparent way to fix it, other than trying to replace the circuit board in back of the unit. I called the retailer who I bought it from (through Amazon) and they said since the warranty is up, they would do nothing and recommended calling a local repairman.

Even when it was working, I had the unit set at 59 degrees and it never went lower than 63, even when I had my home's AC turned down the lower 70's.

I guess you get what you pay for I'll be spending more on my next one, and it won't be a Newair.

We ordered this unit to replace our Magic Chef 12 bottle wine cooler. We wanted a unit that was larger and quieter. The AW-180E NewAir 18 is an attractive and stylish unit, and will look nice in any kitchen or dining room.It was easy to set-up (only the door handle needed to be attached). We were able to place 18 different size bottles of red and white wines inside it without any problem. The controls are simple and easy to operate, and the unit temperature (we set it at 60°F) was reached in a matter of hours and readily maintained. The blue interior light is a nice touch, too.My only reason for not giving it a Five Star rating is that, although quieter than the unit we replaced, it seems to runs continuously (i.e. does not cycle on and off) and therefore you will hear a continuous hum in a silent room. You will not hear it if other backgound noice is present like a TV or stereo. But, in a silent setting you will hear it.To be sure, perhaps a certain amount of noise is to be expected from any cooler. That said, the unit is not "silent."

I purchased this wine cooler about 8 months ago. I have seen the cooler not cool to the correct temperature on hot days, I live in Florida so there are a lot of them. I could have lived with this quirk. But a week ago it just stopped working(no cooling, no led display, nothing). I can see that the power supply inside the backpanel is flashing red and green leds, and makes a switching noise. I will not buy from NewAir again because this product is susceptible to breaking within 8 months of use.

Maytag Maxima 4.3 Cu. Ft. White Front Load Washer - MHW7000XW

  • IntelliTemp Automatic Temperature Control
  • 16 Hour Fresh Hold With Dynamic Venting Technology
  • MaxExtract Extended Spin Option
  • Dimensions: (WHD) 27 X 38

I bought this washer 2 weeks ago after my old top loader stopped spinning. This is my first front loader and I'm so impressed with how clean the clothes are.The cycles times are longer (but the time shown remaining is just an estimate) and I'm not sure about the "sensing" phase which happens in both the wash and rinse cycles-sometimes it's quick and sometimes it seems to take forever but the clothes come out much dryer than my old machine. My favorite part is the fresh hold-it keeps my clothes fresh if I can't take them out right away-especially useful down in my damp basement in this hot and humid weather. The machine itself is quiet even when it's spinning so fast and almost like a jet engine! When the drum light is on it almost looks like a space ship in my basement.I also can do huge loads which saves a lot of time and I can't wait to wash my bedspread using the bedding cycle.I actually look forward now to doing my laundry!!

11/15/11 update:While I'm still very happy with how noticeably clean and fresh my clothes are there have been a few glitches.A few weeks ago the washer would not open and an error message was flashing. It took one week for the repairman to come (with my clothes locked in the washer as no one could tell me how to unlock the washer to get my clothes out!!)When the repairman finally came he said I needed a new motherboard which has been an issue for these washers.I then had to wait another week for the part to be delivered and repaired.(Thankfully by then my clothes were out out of the washer!)It has since been working as usual.

Another issue has been at times the load does not spin as the sensor seems to find the load unbalanced. The clothes are soaked when you go to take them out so you have to make sure you put in an extra towel or something to balance things out and run the rinse/spin cycle.Annoying!!!For the money I expected better especially with a new machine. It kind of makes me nervous about how long this washer will last.I am now rating it a tenative 4 stars down from 5!

We were replacing our 14 year old Maytag Neptune washer which finally died. After talking with a few appliance repair men, they all said to stick with Whirlpool or Maytag and avoid LG, Samsung, and Kenmore (made by LG.)Maytag is owned by whirlpool and the comparable models between the brands are basically identical except for small subtle feature differences, otherwise there is basically no difference as far as parts, engineering, and manufacturing.

Comparing this Maytag model to the whirlpool WFW95HEXW (same washer) we chose the Maytag for purely preferential reasons.

First impressions were:

1) 4.3 cu. ft. capacity is wonderful. We're used to a much older front load washer which had maybe 1/2-2/3 this capacity. It holds a lot and when we put in what used to be stuffed full load, this machine isn't full at all.

2) The Allergen cycle got out pet odors on "dog blankets" that we were never able to get out with our old washer.Just one cycle on allergen and there is no trace of the pet odors.Partially this is due to this washer just being a lot better at cleaning than the old one, but the allergen cycle and "sanitize" options are great for my allergies and for getting out musty mildew odors from towels.

3) It's very quiet. When washing the only sound you hear is the actual clothes tumbling, the motor is silent. When spinning it hums along quietly. It's in our garage but even if it were in the house I would consider it quiet enough.

Bottom line we love this washer so far.We have had no problem and clothes are coming out cleaner than ever.

I recommend you actually read the manual so you understand how to operate it properly.I see a lot of negative reviews different places on the internet because it appears these people aren't using it properly.Just 10 minutes with the manual and make sure you use the right cycles as explained in the manual.

Bought this washer based on rating in CR. It started operating strangely within a week of receiving it. The factory service tech came and said there was nothing wrong. Two months later, it completely died. The service tech came again (after a week wait) and said it had a bad motherboard. That took two more weeks to arrive (the service company said Maytag frequently takes a long time to deliver parts and that waiting a couple weeks was not unusual). Then another week wait for the factory service technician, who didn't arrive within the FIVE HOUR appointment window (A&E Service rep: "When we say the technician will be there between 1 and 5, we really mean that is just an estimate"). So now it's almost four weeks without a working washer.

Nostalgia Electrics KRS2100 Kegorator Beer Keg Fridge, Black

Nostalgia Electrics KRS2100 Kegorator Beer Keg Fridge, Black
  • Full-size single-tap refrigerated beer dispenser
  • Accommodates 1 full- or pony-size keg or 2 5-gallon kegs
  • Keeps beer carbonated for weeks; chrome guardrail; 4 durable casters
  • Empty CO2 bottle included
  • Measures 20-2/7 by 26 by 32 inches; 90-day limited warranty

For starters, stop reading reviews prior to 2011.The early issues with this kegerator have been addressed to the point Nostalgia really should assign it a new model number. As reported by others the regulator is now a pretty nice dual gauge unit, with a lockable output valve.Meaning once you get your CO2 settings dialed in you can lock the knob so it doesn't get changed accidentally while changing out a keg, etc. Also, the unit is dead quiet.

The instructions have been completely revamped and are very easy to follow. All the spare parts provided have been labeled in the manual, no mysteries there either. Before this arrived I downloaded a PDF copy of the old instructions, and it's true the early buyers were basically left in the dark.

I followed the instructions, charged my tank, threw in a 1/4 barrel, and no problems at all.The beer has a perfect head on it, and my monitoring of temps have been hovering around 34-35f.That's with the thermostat set to maximum, so I'll be watching that closely.I don't want my beer to freeze!

A few things to note:

1)The keg tower rubber washer (#5) was not already installed, and is not really mentioned in the manual.Be sure to install it otherwise there's not a tight seal between the tower and fridge and cool air will escape. You'll know if it's not on because the tower installs too easy and doesn't feel tight. The nice side effect of this design is that the tower is basically cooled, so less stale beer in the line.

2)A 5 pound CO2 tank will fit with a full 1/2 barrel, and can be bought at a local gas supply or welding shop filled for about 50 bucks.Refills on the tank are around $9.The 2.5 pound tank shipped is fine, and I'll be filling it so I have a full tank at all times. The 2.5 pound tank should be able to dispense 2-4 1/2 barrel kegs, the 5 pound tank 4-8 1/2 barrel kegs.Tighter fittings, lower CO2 settings, more kegs...

3)The casters are optional, and there are already self leveling feet installed if (like me) you prefer the unit to be shorter and stationary.Height to the top of the fridge door is exactly 31 inches without the caster installed.

Anyway, given all the features and the insane price of $380 shipped I can't see how anyone could be unhappy at this point. All the negative reviews made me really ponder this purchase, but I'm happy to report they're all talking about a different product.I'll post a follow up at 12 months, or before if I experience any problems.

And thanks to the early buyers who posted reviews!Nostalgia listened and thanks to you I have a really nice unit.

NOTE: I've updated this post in March of 2013, after a year of ownership. My basic feelings of the kegerator are still the same--but I just wanted to update some of the information provided in this review. In summary, I did end up replacing the regulator with a higher-quality one.

----------------

This is an excellent kegerator. We purchased it as a Christmas gift for my dad, and we are currently on our second half-barrel oflager!I was a bit skeptical of this based on previous reviews, but as many reviews state, Nostalgia had changed some parts and old issues are no longer present with this model.

LOOKS

We all think it's a good looking unit. Nostalgia offers the same unit but with a stainless steel door. I decided against the stainless steel model because we currently have stainless steel appliances and they show smudges and fingerprints easily. We keep the kegerator in our garage so the black is more appropriate. This unit also features a rounded front door, so the keg partially hangs out when the door is open. Most other kegerators have a flat door, which makes the whole unit looks larger. It is also not the highest quality appliance you will find, as the internals of this unit seem to be a bit plasticky, especially next to a nice, expensive refrigerator. But if you temper your expectations, you will be very happy with it.

ASSEMBLY

The instructions are a bit frustrating. Each section doesn't seem to be in proper order. Also, there are plenty of extra little parts that come with it. I still don't know where they all go, but it's good to have them I guess. My best advice to get it up and running as soon as possible:

* first have a keg ready to go (call a local beer store, and have them order and hold a keg of your favorite beer until you're ready for it--it may take a few days for them to get the keg if it is not in stock).

* Unbox the unit and put the casters on (not too tightly or they will be difficult to spin).

* Plug it in and turn the thermostat to the coldest setting.

* Get your Co2 tank filled up.I took mine to a paintball place, but you can also try a welding or outdoor sport shop. If you're still stuck, call a hardware store for some suggestions. Also, the beer store you're getting your keg from may swap Co2 tanks.

Take your time with assembly and read the instructions carefully. It may be a bit frustrating at times with all the different sized washers and parts, but keep at it and you will work through it just fine.At first, I used nylon tape on the fittings, but later found that there is no point to this, as the various washers in place are there to stop leaks, rendering the nylon tape unnecessary--but there is no harm in doing so.I had a tough time getting the tower on with the rubber washer (the instructions didn't say to put it on but it is in the parts bag, and the tower doesn't fit right without it). I recommend putting some dish soap on both sides of the washer, put it in place, stand on the left side (when you're facing the unit) and hold the unit in place with your knee while you push down hard and turn the tower clockwise until it locks. It may take a few tries and some effort but it eventually fits snug and will help keep cold air in.

REGULATOR

Past complaints have been about the regulator. The old regulator was a single gauge--this newer one is a dual gauge. After a few months of usage, I decided to replace the regulator due to it allowing the keg to become over-pressurized despite my low-psi setting. The Co2 pressure SHOULD remain constant throughout the life of your Co2--if you are constantly fighting the pressure, get rid of the regulator and buy a new one.Over-pressurizing your keg will waste Co2 and end up costing you more money and frustration anyway. After some research, regulators from Micromatic seem to be held in high regard, so I went ahead and purchased one from their website (dual-guage, premium, part #642).If you do purchase a new regulator, remember to get a new gas line and barbed tip so you can connect it to the keg coupler--Micromatic sells all of this.I've had zero issues since changing the regulator. Also, the regulator I purchased was a bit larger than the stock one, so it may be a tight fit depending on your keg and Co2 tank sizes.

Remember that when you have a new keg, the keg is already pressurized somewhat, so you will need very little Co2 pressure through the first few pours until the keg pressure is relieved, or alternatively relieve the pressure using the pressure relief valve on the tap. After that, you will have slower pours, which is your cue to turn up the pressure. Don't turn it up too high or else you will get foamy pours. There is a relief valve on the regulator to reset the pressure which is helpful during adjusting. There is another relief valve on the keg tap as well, which can also help troublesome pours. This kegerator comes with a 5lb Co2 tank, but it was quickly swapped out for a larger tank.It may be a good idea down the road to get a 10lb tank and keep the included smaller tank as a spare.

Another note: always remember to use a nylon washer between your Co2 tank and the regulator.Failing to use a nylon washer will result in a leak.If you swap your tank at a beer store, they will likely give you a washer. The Micromatic regulator I've described above has a permanent washer in place.

THERMOSTAT

Some reviewers wrote about modifying the thermostat by removing the cover on the thermostat and adjusting the little screw. I would recommend taking a wait and see approach to determine whether you need to do this--you don't want to adjust it too much and unnecessarily freeze up your beer (most beer freezes around 28-29 degrees).I ended up waiting 24 hours before I gave the adjustment screw a clockwise turn, waited a few hours, then checked again (my keg was hovering around 40 degrees, I was shooting for about 36). After the adjustment, the temp has been steady around 36.

THERMOSTAT ADJUSTMENT

Here is how to get to the adjustment screw: first, unplug the unit, then on the back of the unit, turn the temperature dial to the max setting, then pull the knob off. Now, remove the two screws that hold the thermostat housing to the side of the kegerator. Then remove the two screws to take the thermostat off of the housing. Then on the thermostat, there is a small phillips screw above the temperature adjustment dial.Turn it once clockwise to go colder, counter-clockwise to go warmer (just one turn was all I needed).Put everything back together, plug the unit back in, then wait a couple of hours before you check the temperature and make another adjustment as necessary.

After a year of ownership, the kegerator has remained cool and reliable.

CLEANING

An important topic that I did not previously cover in my original review.Make sure you buy a nice kegerator cleaning kit (I recommend this one: Beer Line Cleaning Kit). You will want to keep the beer lines clean, otherwise, bacteria from the beer line can creep back into the beer, causing the beer to go bad.I recommend cleaning the lines after every keg change--it's a simple process of disconnecting the lines and running a cleaning solution through the lines, as well as disconnecting the tap and cleaning some of the little parts. There are also little parts for attaching to the tap to cover the tap opening when not in use for extended periods of time--they can be easily found on Amazon.

I have not had any shipping/packaging issues that other reviewers spoke of. I also have not had any reason to contact Nostalgia customer support.

NOTES: Some issues people commonly have, especially when they are new to kegs, are that the beer either comes out too slow (which basically means you're out of Co2 or don't have enough pressure), or the beer comes out too fast (meaning too much Co2 is in the keg), resulting in a foamy mess.Firstly, your regulator has two gauges--one, (the left side) gauge, shows the pressure coming from your Co2 tank, and the other (the top gauge), shows the pressure you are delivering to the keg.Typically, the left-side Co2 tank gauge reads anywhere from 500 to 1000 bar psi (which will vary on the tank temperature), and it is perfectly normal for the tank to read in this range when it has enough Co2.When your tank begins to run out, it will quickly hit zero. And when you're setting up a new keg, the pressure may fluctuate a bit as the system normalizes, so while the correct pressure may be set once you first hook up a fresh keg, checking back an hour or two later, you may notice it needs readjusting. This is normal.

Now, in the event that you over-pressurize your keg, it means you have way too much Co2 in there, and as a result, your beer will come out very fast and very foamy. Some reviewers blame this on the kegerator, but really it is their own fault. The simple solution is this: close the valve on your Co2 tank as well as close the switch on your regulator. Then, find the relief pin on your keg tap (you have two relief pins--one on the regulator, one on the keg tap). Pull this pin hard (helpful if you use a pair of pliers) and it will slowly release the pressure in your keg. It may take a minute or two, but the pressure will slowly die down. When the pressure is relieved, start pouring beer until the pour is too slow (it may even take a few pitchers more of foamy beer, but it will get there--be patient). Finally, when the pour is too slow, open your Co2 tank valve, then turn on the regulator switch to the open position as well, and finally slowly adjust your Co2 on the regulator until you get a nice pour.It may take a while and readjusting in an hour or two, but be patient!

Finally, when your keg is kicked, close off the valve on your Co2 tank as well as the switch on the regulator to avoid losing any Co2.

Overall, I think you will be very happy with this unit. It's one of the cheapest ones you'll find on the internet, so as long as you take your time setting it up and do your research on this unit to find out its quirks, you will be happily pouring fresh, draft beer in no time!

Cheers!

I was a little hesitant buying this kegerator because of some of the bad reviews it received from this site and others. However, I trusted Amazon to take the return if it came in broken or did not perform.I've had this item for about 2 weeks now andI have to say it works beautifully. If you are concerned about the following items don't be:

Thermostat does not keep the beer cold enough false, I've had to turn down the fridge because it was TOO cold.Did not modify it at all.

Regulator only has one gauge false, this kegerator came with a dual gauge regulator.

Slow shipmentfalse, ordered with prime, shipped 3 hours after I ordered it, packaged very well.

CO2 tank held by cheap band false, CO2 tank is held by a plastic mesh and fits very nicely in the back.

Overall this has surpassed by expectations for a kegerator under $400

I ordered this item on September 14th. Didn't get delivered until October 4th. Way out of the time range that was initially given. Product information made it appear that all you would need to do is supply the Keg and get the CO2 tank filled. WAY OFF. The "regulator" that comes with the Kegerator doesn't regulate ANYTHING its simply an off on switch for the CO2. After spending 2 days wasting beer I took it to my local tavern and confirmed whatI already thought. So I had to drive to my local Beer Supply store and spend an additional $50 for an actual regulator. Then I experienced the problem that any regulator you buy doesn't connect to the supplied air hose as it should. Next stop Ace hardware where i purchased new tubing and fittings (another $10 down the drain). Upon affixing my new regulator and air hoses I realized that the beer comes out WAY too fast causing an excessive amount of foam. Last trip to Ace Hardware and got a water flow restricter for another $3 and now at long last i finally have a fully operational kegerator. Cheers and have fun.

I was looking for an inexpensive kegerator and didn't give this unit much of a look because there were several unflattering reviews on various sites. The major complaints seemed to be:

1)The unit would not go below the low 40's

2)The package included a single guage regulator

However, there are various forums that gave detailed instructions on how to get around these limitations.First, the thermostat can be removed and with the turn of a screw the temperature can easily be lowered into the 30's.Second, a dual gauge regulator can be purchased and installed for about $50.I am hardly the handiest guy in the world but I had no problems doing this.

I've owned this unit for about 2 weeks now and with these modifications I'm now enjoying ice-cold beer.I base my rating on quality of the unit for the price that I paid for it.I also took the time to document my experiences with the unit I hope this proves useful to someone that either owns one or is thinking of buying one.

  • Also reduces cysts, asbestos, particulates, lead, mercury

I have a Kenmore refrigerator form Sears that I bought about a year and a half ago. Kenmore is actually made by Whirlpool and although the filter this replaced was labeled Kenmore, this is the exact same filter but labeled Whirlpool instead. I looked it up on the Sears site and they wanted $50 for the same filter. The price is a steal and even though it says 6 months I used it for over a year since I have soft water in my house and only one person. My fridge has a 6 month built in timer that goes from green to orange to red when the 6 months is up. I thought it might be based on actual usage, but it's not, because it went red at exactly 6 months and I use far less water than most other households. I have no idea why more time would harm a filter, as far as I'm concerned it's just a marketing tactic to get you to buy them more often then needed, like oil changes every 3,000 miles.

This filter fits my Kenmore Elite side by side which takes the Sears 9030 filter and at almost half the price. The only difference in this filter is it does not say Stage II or Kenmore. The water tastes exactly the same to me as when I used the Sears brand and I am very aware of the water taste since we have hard, extremely chlorinated water in my area. I wish I had found these filters 4 Sears brand filters ago ... serious $$$ savings!

I bought my whirlpool refrigerator from sears in 2006.Sears sent me a reminder through mail that I need to replace my filter.I almost ordered the part through the sears.com website because this particular filter was not available through the sears store or through their parts center.I went to the sears.com website and their price was $60.59($44.98part+ $4.62tax+$10.99shipping). Then I thought about checking amazon.com to see if this filter was available, and it was, for a much lower cost to me. My total was $41.98($34.99part+$6.99shipping).I ordered the filter on May30 and received it through usps on June2.Replacing the filter was easy just pop out the old one, transfer the filter cap from the old filter to the new one, and pop the new filter assembly back in.The old filter was dripping water, so I took it over to the sink to shake out the water and out came some rust colored water and small pieces of debris which would have been in my drinking water if it had not been filtered out by the filter. So it is a good idea to replace the filter on a regular basis.

Some interesting Facts not all know: Why to change your filter...

Eventually the AC filter (Active Carbon) loses its ability to remove contaminants, because it becomes clogged with material. In the case of taste and odor, the time to change the filter is easy to detect. However, in the case of other contaminants, it is more difficult to determine when the filter is no longer performing at an adequate level. Most manufacturers recommend a filter change after a certain volume of water has passed through the filter. Some AC units actually meter the water and automatically shut down after a specific quantity of water has passed through the filter. A general rule of thumb for high-volume AC filters is to change the filter after six months of use or 1000 gallons of filtered water. Tests done by Rodale Press Product Testing Department indicated that filtering performance was reduced dramatically after 75 percent of the manufacturer's recommended life time. These results suggest that filters should be changed more often than suggested by the manufacturer. Some AC filters are claimed to last for five years, because they are rechargeable with hot water (145 degrees F). The heat is supposed to release adsorbed organic chemicals. Little information is available on the prolonged effectiveness of rechargeable AC units. General recommendations are somewhat useful quidelines, but there is no guarantee that they apply to any specific situation. Remember, the only certain way of knowing whether contaminant levels are acceptable or not is by having your water tested.

A sediment filter installed ahead of any AC filter will prolong the life of the AC unit. Sediment can easily clog the pores of an AC filter within a short period of time. A good sediment filter can be purchased for only a fraction of the price of most high volume AC filters.

The Bacteria Issue

AC filters can be a breeding ground for microorganisms. The organic chemicals that are adsorbed to the AC are a source of food for various types of bacteria. Pathogenic bacteria are those that cause human diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and dysentery. Public water systems must treat for disease causing bacteria; therefore, the likelihood of disease causing bacteria being introduced to an AC filter from public drinking water is remote. AC filtration should only be used on water that has been tested and found to be bacteria free or effectively treated for pathogenic bacteria.

Other types of non-pathogenic bacteria that do not cause diseases have been regularly found in AC filters. There are times when high amounts of bacteria (non-pathogenic) are found in water filtered through an AC unit. Research by R. L. Caldron and E. W. Mood (1987) shows little risk to healthy people that consume high amounts of non-pathogenic bacteria. We regularly take in millions of bacteria every day from other sources. However, there is some concern for certain segments of the population, such as the very young or old and people weakened by illness. Some types of non-pathogenic bacteria can cause illness in those whose natural defenses are weak. Flushing out bacteria that have built up in the filter can be accomplished by running water through an AC filter for about 30 seconds prior to use. Water filtered after the initial flushing will have much lower levels of bacteria and ingestion of a high concentration of bacteria will have been avoided. The flushing procedure is most important in the morning or any other time of the day when the filter has not been used for several hours.

Some compounds of silver have been used as disinfectants. Silver has been added to certain AC filters as a solution to the bacteria problem. Unfortunately, product testing has not shown silver impregnated AC to be much more effective in controlling bacteria than normal AC filters. Only in the first month of operation did there appear to be any advantage to using an AC filter that contained silver.

EPA requires registration of all types of water treatment equipment that contain an active ingredient for the purpose of inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. Registration does not guarantee that the product is effective. It only guarantees that the active ingredient will not leach from the filter at levels that would be a health hazard.

WIth all due respect to the reviewer who complained that the cost of 20 cents/day was unreasonable and excessive, this filter does an amazing job and is a fantastic bargain, **especially** when compared to bottled water and manufactured ice. We've had our new KitchenAid fridge for just a little over 6 months, and we've been delighted with the sparkly-clean, crisp, tasteless water & ice that this filter enables it to dispense.Especially since we live in a "hard-water" area, where the stuff coming from your tap, while acceptable, leaves a faint, gritty mineral taste.I used to "splurge" on store-bought ice several times/year for parties and special occasions, just because it tasted so much better.(Or rather, didn't taste like anything at all -which is of course the point.)Since we've had this fridge, with this filter, I've never needed to spend extra on bagged ice OR bottled water, because the ice & water thru this filter are every bit as good. The acid test? I could fill a clean plastic bottle with the water from this filter, and let it sit at room temperature for a day or more, and it still tastes just as good warm as if it were freshly dispensed. That same exercise with our regular tap water would've resulted in a nasty, nose-wrinkling, mineral stew as soon as the chill was gone.Another nice advantage this filter has over bottled water is that it does NOT filter out cavity-preventing fluoride, whereas most (all?) bottled waters do.
