First off, apparently, color makes a difference in the cost. White may be a favorite color for cars, but when it comes to mini-fridges, the stainless-steel look -yes, just the look of it -is the hotter pick. Basically, that means it would have cost me $ more for the shiny metallic one. Because I wanted the cheapest fridge with a recognizable brand name, I went for the white. If it came in puke green and wasbucks cheaper, there'd be a vomit-colored fridge in my office right now. Maybe that would make me eat less and lose weight.
After people found out that I paid $ for this mini-fridge, everyone started saying how Target had one forbucks or how the security guard was trying to give one away the week before. Damn. I reminded myself that this was a brand-new, brand-name Sanyo product.
As for the fridge itself, it works. That's always a plus. But it doesn't hold as much on the inside as the outside would suggest. That's because the bottom level doesn't go back very far. I don't think you could put a gallon-sized jug of milk down there. Besides, to do that, you'd have to remove the second shelf, leaving you nothing to hold your leftover takeout. There's a top shelf next to the super-mini freezer, but it's only wide enough to hold some Uncrustables.
If you're planning to use this as a dorm fridge in a frat house, then you'll be happy to know that with the second shelf in place, you can keep at least 36 cans of beer chilling in here, if you include the slots on the door. The super-mini freezer can hold about six Hot Pockets, and that's it. It comes with a cute little ice-cube tray, but I took that out to make room for, yes, my six ham-n-cheese Hot Pockets.
I have the level of coldness turned up pretty high. I can see the freezer starting to develop those weird ice polyps which I'm pretty sure will grow into the size of melons. Once they merge into a big 'berg, and start encroaching on my peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, I'll lug the fridge outside and let the sun do its thing.
This fridge suits my purposes, but I get the feeling that another one, say, at Target, for $100 and bigger to boot, would probably have fulfilled my needs just the same, if not more. But it wouldn't have been a Sanyo! So I saved $30 on the color, but paid $50 more for the name. Now that's smart shopping.

This is a nice little unit. It's been functioning properly and makes very little noise as it runs.
My concern is with the way it is packaged. The packaging does not offer any protection (aside from the cardboard wrapping) against being banged about by package delivery companies. This type of packaging is meant only for bulk freight hauling where pallets of these units are moved around with forklifts.
My unit arrived with a dent near the rear that also knocked loose a support beam. The dent is permanent, but I was able to secure the support beam.Once you open the packaging, it would be very difficult to rewrap in such a way as to return it.So, I'm keeping it because it does work well, and I can't notice the dent by where the unit is placed.

This fridge apparently does not ship well. The top rear corner of my fridge was dented during shipping and the box it came in showed the damage. I thought about returning it but instead decided to avoid the hassle and put it to work immediately. It is a compact fridge. It can't freeze things very well. Do not put a Ben & Jerry's pint in the freezer tray and not expect it to melt or soften. It is quiet and keeps drinks cold. It has removable trays that allow you to customize what kinds of things you keep in it. It is a compact fridge. Do not expect too much of it and you will not be disappointed. I hooked it up to my Kill-A-Watt for a few months and it appears to use about $30/yr of electricity at the "5" (almost coldest) setting.
Well, I got this a few months ago for a much lower price than is currently shown here. I don't know why that is. I relied heavily on these reviews when choosing the fridge, so decided to add mine.
Previously I bought a small refrigerator only to discover it didn't chill food enough to prevent spoiling although the manufacturer claimed otherwise. This one, however, keeps food just as cold as the refrigerator in my kitchen. The tiny freezer section actually freezes -I made ice cubes in a few hours. (Be warned that you can't fit much in the freezer section aside from the ice cube tray that comes with it.)
The refrigerator doesn't leak at all, and fortunately it's not too noisy even though I'm sensitive to noise. I can hear it running, but the noise is low enough to tune out. And there is WAY more space inside than I expected. Overall, this is a very good compact refrigerator, and I hope the price drops again. Because I got a great bargain. Sanyo has a happy new customer.
