Vinotemp VT-28TEDS Thermo-Electric Digital 28-Bottle Wine Chiller, Black and Stainless

Vinotemp VT-28TEDS Thermo-Electric Digital 28-Bottle Wine Chiller, Black and Stainless
  • Freestanding digital wine chiller keeps up to 28 bottles properly chilled
  • Thermo-electric cooling system protects wine from unnecessary vibration
  • Ultra-quiet operation; does not use ozone-depleting chemicals
  • Energy-efficient dual-paned glass door; 6 pull-out shelves included
  • Measures 22 by 18-1/4 by 28-1/2 inches; 1-year limited warranty

Prior to purchase I had read various reviews about the unit's inability to properly cool. Despite the warning, I went ahead, hoping for better luck, as the unit had the best combination of price/capacity.I decided the best approach was to give the unit a trial run by getting it at my local target so that I could return it if it didn't work.I purchased a refrigerator thermometer along with it just to keep it honest. Sure enough, the unit was only able to knock about 10 degrees off of the ambient temperature, despite brazenly claiming to be at 56 degrees.

On the plus side, it was indeed quiet and sleek looking but it would've been nice to have some more cooling capability. For my purposes, however, this was fine.My intent was to prevent exposure to heat and I grew to like drinking my reds at about 65 degrees.

Flash forward one year and last night I reached into my cooler to find the bottles warm. A check of the thermometer showed that the inside of my vinotemp was now the balmiest spot in the house at 78 degrees. I tried cleaning the filter, unplugging etc. and once restarted the unit whirrs away uselessly; mindlessly warming the inside bottles. For $200, all I was able to coax out of this thing was a year of disingenuous underperformance.

I got the unit from a target store on a great holiday sale. I probably wouldn't pay retail for it. I set it up and let it sit overnight, then plugged it in and let it sit overnight again. With the thermostat set at 55 (the lowest possible), my own thermometer placed inside reads 60. It seems to be able to hold at 60 pretty well as the ambient temp in my desert apartment fluctuates through the day (no higher than 80 for the ambient temp).

The 60 degrees is not the best temp for storing wine, but its really not that bad for my $20-and-under-per-bottle collection. As I understand it (after talking to lots of people), the extra few degrees will eventually cut short the life of the bottle, but should be fine for a few to several years. I don't think my wines will go un-drunk that long.

In summary, I bought this cellar/fridge to store my wines, not to preserve them for 20 years. I needed something that was between a closet and a regular fridge. I also wanted something that had low noise, so I went with this instead of a compressor model. I think it works well for these purposes, especially at the discount sale price. It looks nice and doesn't have too much extra bulk.

If you are looking for something for long term cellaring of finer wines, I would recommend looking for a slightly colder unit. If you just want decent storage, this may work fine for you.

(there's two of these same items listed on amazon with the same model number I own, so I put the same review on both one is VT28TEDS and the other is VT-28TEDS)

We bought this cooler to store some of our $50+ bottles of wine we don't have a huge collection by any means, but just wanted to make sure some of the better wine didn't get destroyed by a hot CA day.

The fridge took a day or so to cool down after filling it to capacity.I haven't tried measuring the actual temp using a seperate thermometer, but it says 54 and feels about the same.Although initially it was very quiet, it does whirr regularly, but it's still pretty quiet considering we have it 5ft from our living room couch and it doesn't bother us at all.

I wrote this review so I could include the capacity since one of my biggest problems when looking for a cooler was that it's very hard to tell what will actually fit.At max we filled this cooler with 2 magnums resting on the bottom, 3 champagne bottles and 17 bordeaux/burgundy style 750ml bottles. It suprised me that there was enough room for all this. The magnums fit diagonally (and there's not a lot of space, but it worked) after removing one shelf and raising the other. You won't be able to fit more than 3 champagne bottles on one shelf, but if you removed every other shelf I could see someone fitting up to about 12 or so champagne bottles total in the cooler.Yes, you should be a little careful when removing standard bottles because the fit is a little tight (just lift up the shelf above slightly and you will be fine) but the idea is not to be adding and removing bottles all the time so I don't think it's a big deal.

Hopefully that gives people an idea of the size of this cooler. It's worked out perfectly for us.

This product is so good I bought a second one.I especially like the non-compressor cooling, which works very well. The digital readout indicates temperature to readily be maintained at my 60 degree setting, which I consider to be a good European wine cellar temperature. They are totally silent.I bought the first unit on Amazon, and the second from Target where it was on sale and much cheaper than the Amazon price. The unit's packaging was fine, and had no cosmetic damage.I have moved them twice within the family room without issues.

I just recently was given this wine fridge as a Wedding gift from my in-laws. I have to say that I am quite satisfied with it thus far. I was rather concerned when I first got it being that I instantly went online and checked out personal reviews of the product. It seems that on many different online sites including amazon, there are a lot of complaints that this fridge does not cool. To be honest, I am not having that problem at all thus far in the first week.

I followed the instructions, let it sit for over 2 hours prior to plugging in...then got it up and running. I let the fridge run for 2 days prior to putting any wine in it because I wanted to get a thermometer first to check the temperature since I had heard so many complaints regarding the temp. The fridge temp gauge read 55, and my thermometer read 57...quite close. I then put about 10 bottles in it and while having the door open the temp went back up to the low 60s. Well, I now have waited over night, and the temp gauge is reading 55 again...my thermometer is reading 56, and it appears to be working perfectly. I read many reviews that insist this fridge won't go below 60, or in some cases even below 65. I am clearly getting the right temperature on mine. All in all, great product so far.

Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black/Brushed MetalI've had the Cuisinart DCC-1200 for about a week now. I was hesitant to spend so much on a coffee maker but I'm happy to report it's well worth it. Sure, you can get other brands of coffee makers for under $25 if economy is the most important feature, but I've had those machines and I decided that, this time, a good cup of coffee was most important for me.This unit makes the best coffee I've had in a home or office machine and better than most coffee I've had in restaurants.

This coffee tastes smooooooth!I suspect the charcoal water filter is the reason for that.I also like the "shower head" design of the water spout. The water actually runs up a track onto the underside of the lid and is sprinkled over the ground coffee like a rain shower.

It's an attractive unit but it also looks like a serious coffee maker. This unit is no toy.It looks and feels solid. The carafe has a good solid feel and balance. The plastic parts (like the plastic carafe lid and handle) feel like good heavyweight plastic and are well molded. It's not the lightweight crappy plastic that cracks and discolors easily in the cheap coffee makers.

I like the 5 beeps when the coffee is ready. Now I can leave the kitchen and go clean or whatever and I don't have to keep running back to see if I can get a cup yet.I can hear the beeps. But if I really can't wait and want a cup in mid-brew, I can just remove the pot and pour a cup you've got a full 30 seconds to reinsert the pot, before you risk an overflowing filter.

I like the permanent gold-tone filter too.I always thought paper filters were a pain. They'd fold over sometimes and there'd be grounds in my coffee. But you can use paper filters in this machine if you want to. I just prefer the convenience of the gold-tone filter (top rack machine washable too).

It has an indicator light for cleaning -it says it's "self-cleaning" but really it's just a light telling you when you need to pour in a pot of water/vinegar and run it through to decalcify the unit.(I never thought to do that with my other units.Probably another reason my coffee wasn't as good as I wanted it to be.)

The low-medium-high setting on the hot plate is pretty nice too.And the auto-shutoff feature is great.I don't have to worry about forgetting to turn the machine off.

The instruction booklet is very good and very thorough. Comes with a parts reordering form too.

What don't I like about this machine? It requires maintenance in that you have to change the charcoal filters. But actually I don't mind since I think they are the reason the coffee tastes so smooth, and they are very easy to change and not expensive

Also, the area in the top of the machine where you pour in the water is narrow but again this is just a minor inconvenience.Just have to pour a little carefully.

So really it's almost all positives with a couple of very minor negatives.I highly recommend this coffee maker.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)When my Braun FlavorSelect coffee maker unexpectedly stopped working, I had to scramble to find a new machine. I wanted another Braun, but unfortunately, they seem to have stopped making a 12 cup coffee maker. So I had to begin an intense search for a machine that had the features I wanted combined with good value. I finally found it with this Cuisinart model.

The advantages? For one, it makes excellent and HOT coffee. The carafe is solidly constructed and fits securely in square body so there's no chance of someone accidentally knocking it loose. Because the lid fits tightly, the pour is precisely narrow and smooth, with no side leaks even when the pot is full. The basket fits inside the housing instead of swinging free like so many models which prevents a misalignment between the water and the filter; the conical (Krups/Braun style) basket accepts both paper filters and gold-tone, although I learned the hard way that not all gold filters fit. The timer is very easy to program, as is the clock. The carafe warmer can be set at low, medium, or high for the temperature that's right for you. I found the "high" setting too hot since I drink my coffee black (I like my coffee hot but not scalding!), but those who add a lot of milk might appreciate it. The brewing is quick and efficient, with the process taking about a minute a cup, maybe less. The retro/stainless look complements most modern kitchen décors. There's a 1-4 cup setting to make sure such small amounts stay hot, and you can select how long the warmer remains on. The pot beeps five times when brewing is complete and just before the warming plate shuts off. Parts are top rack dishwasher safe. It comes with a water filter system designed to improve the taste of the brew.

But the Cuisinart does have disadvantages. The water reservoir is located on the right side, in the back, which makes it a little challenging for lefties like me to dump the final bit of water inside even though the carafe pours very accurately. Although I haven't yet missed the opening, I do struggle briefly with those last few drops unless I use my right hand. The housing is fairly tall, so if your counter space is only under the cabinets, you may not be able to lift the top in its entirety. (This is when the small rear reservoir becomes a major issue as you have to have room to completely lift the rather large top toward the back.) Clearance required: 7.5" wide by 8.5" deep of counter space with no overhead obstruction to pull out for filling OR 21.5" of overhead space to fully lift top. Without the top open, the coffee maker measures 7.5"w x 8.5"d x 14.25"h.

If you have the space for this coffee maker, you'll love it. I can't attest to how long it will last, but, as it comes with a three year warranty, I'm hoping for a good run.

Buy Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Now

Two weeks ago, I needed a new coffee maker. The Krups Aroma Control maker is in all the stores and catalogs, so I bought one in the local mall BEFORE reading the Amazon reviews.BIG MISTAKE.Lesson learned read the reviews many negative comments.I used it for 3 days, and readily understood the description (...) of "eye candy" (looks nice, but seems like cheap plastic) and weak coffee (what they describe as a feature allowing the coffee to steep is really a euphemism for a poorly designed system that is guaranteed to give you a weak cup of coffee). One redeeming feature the carafe is very nice.

Within 2 days of having the Krups, i was on Amazon looking for a replacement coffee maker (a good cup of coffee is critical in the morning!).I went out on the risk curve and ordered the new Cuisinart no reviews yet.The Cuisinart has a more classic brewing system (water goes through grinds via gravity), yields a delicious cup of HOT coffee, has a variable temperature hot place, and looks and feels solid. We happen to have stainless steel appliances (refrigerator, freezer, stove), and it matches beautifully.Best news excellent coffee!.I would highly recommend the Cuisinart.

Folks, this is one excellent coffee maker.I read the comments here and decided to get it even though some had complained of spillage when lifting the lid and also the coffee not being hot enough.Well I can tell you that when I lift the lid on mine, the water rolls to the back and then drips back into the machine on a nifty little lip attached to the back of the machine. It appears that Cuisinart has engineered a solution for the complaints of spilled water that some reviewers mention. Also, the coffee coming out of the carafe of my machine has steam drifting off of it, so it is plenty hot, another complaint that seems to have been remedied. There were also a couple of complaints about finger prints on the stainless and the small LED clock being hard to read, but let's be for real, all brushed stainless appliances will fingerprint and this is a very stylish coffee maker, not a kitchen clock(that's what your microwave is for! (wink)).Actually I think the Cuisinart guys intended the clock for autoprogramming functions and made it LED to match the stainless on the machine. And if you don't like the water filter, you don't have to use it.It is a nicety and can be readily found if you search the net for "dcc1200 water filter".

Enough defending complaints though. This machine makes superb coffee. It has the best carafe I have ever used(it will not spill a drop and it has a built-in plastic rim to keep you from busting it on the sink). It comes with a gold metal filter.Buy it and you will like it.And if for some strange reason you don't, then take it back. All jabs aside, this is an outstanding machine in form as well as function, and the people at Cuisinart obviously care what their customers think of their products. That means alot to me. How about you???

I recently decided that it was time to buy a new coffeemaker and wanted the BEST! I did my research thoroughly, online and by word-of-mouth, and decided on Cuisinart's DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker. This terrific gadget arrived a week ago and I am thrilled with it.

I love my coffee and usually make time to have at least one, if not two, 12 oz. mugs of freshly brewed java before I leave the house in the AM. Although this is a 12 cup coffeemaker, the settings are geared for a 5 oz. cup. So, for those of you who think a 12 cup machine is too much, this factor should be considered. Coffee is 98% water and if the quality of water used is not good, your final result won't be either. Cuisinart's DCC-1200 has a charcoal water filter that removes chlorine, calcium, bad tastes and odors. The self-cleaning feature is terrific and a warning light will flash to notify when calcium buildup is interfering with the machine's functioning mechanism. Programming for delayed brew time is a snap with the LCD digital clock. One of the features I like best is the heater plate control knob. I like my coffee steaming hot and this feature assures that I can control the temperature of the nonstick heating plate. The machine also looks great on my kitchen counter.

I had thought about buying a combination coffeemaker/coffee grinder and decided against it. Apparently, many combination machines leave a sludgy residue and are a hassle to clean. I preferred using my own grinder, which is easy to clean, and this coffee maker also very easy to clean and maintain. This machine is a coffee lover's dream!!

I bought the BEST! Very highly recommended!!

I chose this rating because 1) I haven't installed the product yet, but it is the right part, and 2) Caribbean Appliance went over the top to make sure I was satisfied, so they get 5 stars from me.

My son broke this actuator off of my buddy's refrigerator right after Christmas, so I ordered a new one through Amazon/Caribbean. The part came and the package looked the right size, so I never thought to check it. The part was on my workbench for 3 months until I finally coordinated an evening to go fix my friend's fridge this past Friday. You can imagine our surprise when we opened the package to find the wrong part inside :)No matter I contacted Amazon to let them know what happened, and the correspondence was routed to Caribbean who, even though we were slightly past the 75 day period, sent out a replacement part immediately. I have it today, even though I probably won't be going back to fix it for a week or two.

Amazon: You have a good mechanism for resolving 3rd party vendors problems!

Caribbean: You have first rate customer service, I will order from you without hesitation in the future thanks for the no-hassle swap for the right part!

I was concerned about the installation, but found that simply pushing the water hose up a bit toward the door at the base of the refrigerator gave enough slack to easy install the actuator. If you are having a difficult time, you probably need to pull up the slack some more.

Whirlpool 21.7 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - GX2FHDXVY

Whirlpool 21.7 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - GX2FHDXVYThis refrigerator is very quiet and very energy efficient. The stainless steel front looks very modern and elegant with simple handles. We previously had a Electrolux refrigerator that was twice as loud as this one...granted it was also almost 10 years old.The Whirlpool barely makes a whisper, even when the motor kicks on (which is infrequent). The only drawback on this fridge is that there are a few drawers and shelves that do not provide the best access or storage capacity. It is more of a minor inconvenience, and I think most fridges have this to some extent somewhere.I just think this fridge has the issue in a few more places than most, so I have to take away a star.Thankfully, there is a lot of storage space so you can usually get by if you carefully manage where you put stuff...but I'd rather not have to do that. Not a dealbreaker though...the lack of noise and efficiency more than make up for it with me.

According to Haier Customer Service, this thing is only designed to "cool" to 45 degrees F.That is completely inadequate in my mind for a "beverage center."This fact is not in the user manual and it is not documented anywhere in the detailed specs here or at Haier's website. If I had known this fact, I would NOT have purchased this machine. As it is, I will probably donate it to a charity organization and buy a product that is designed for use in the real world....and it won't be a Haier product.

I do not usually do this, but I thought I'd take some time out to warn all of you out there. DO NOT purchase this item through Amazon.com. They sent me a USED item that looked like it had been opened and tampered with before. There were screws falling off inside the refrigerator that didn't look like they were supposed to be falling off. The door hinge was bent up. The bottom was glued up like it had been repaired before. The outside had scuff marks all over it like it had been tossed around.

I was expecting to pay for a NEW item and got someone elses USED old Refrigerator! I did not expect this buying from Amazon.com!

Very pleased with this unit so far. Exterior digital display makes it easy to keep and eye on the temp. The temp selector is an analog dial inside the unit, and doesn't have numeric scale, so there's some trial and error to get the right temp, but overall works well. The unit is out in our garage that fluctuates with the outside temp, and overall does a very good job maintaining temp, even when it's up into the 80s and 90s outside. Will be purchasing a 2nd one shortly so we can have a red and white cellar at different temps.

I bought this to age cheese and wine in, per another review. It works great. The temp is controlled by a knob inside the unit, so you may have to do a little trial and error to get it to where you need it.Not bad at all.

To start with, I'm not a wine cona "sewer".I don't know that much about it and would never pay a lot for it.Crown Royal is my drink of choice. However, I saw this wine deal from Wall Street Journal. The introductory offer was about 15 bottles for about $90 with no shipping charges. This is about $6 a bottle which is in my league.Every 3 months or so they offer you some more but not so cheaply. You can cancel at any time.(Wish it was that easy with marriage!)So I ordered it.The bottles have nice labels and many foreign pedigrees.

While drinking that first bottle, I decided to investigate wine chillers again.I had looked several years ago and Consumers Reports had reviewed many, mostly bad.I looked again and Consumers has rated only the expensive, $1500, models.I would never pay that. So, I started looking at Amazon. This model seemed to have good reviews and the price was good.(At that time, it was $62 with free, Amazon Prime, shipping. Now, the price is not so good.)

I kinda wanted the nickel finish but someone wrote that the whole unit wasn't nickel so I opted for this black one, a little cheaper, and, it would go okay in our kitchen. The unit was very well packed in an extra heavy cardboard box and enclosed in Styrofoam.I thought the quality was excellent. It fits very nicely on our kitchen counter, not taking up very much room.It has an internal LED lite that you can turn off if you want. It's not enough light to read the bottle labels but it is really cool looking when you have your friends over.

Haier seems to be pretty well known for making refrigeration units. This unit, however, does not have a compressor. It uses thermoelectric cooling, conversion of electricity into cooling. As such, it could be more reliable (and smaller) and quieter. You might compare this unit to a Styrofoam cooler with ice on the bottom. There aren't any coils in the sides, bottom, or top of this unit.Maybe a negative is that the unit runs all of the time to maintain the desire cooling.

The manual states that the internal temperature is a function of the external temperature. This makes sense if you again think of this unit as similar to a Styrofoam cooler. We keep our home at about 70 degrees.I found that the min and max temperatures of this unit were 47 and 63 degrees which is agreement with the manual specifications and covers what I found on the internet to be a recommended range for wine chilling 43 to 65 degrees. For me, if it contains alcohol and I want it, I will drink it no matter what its temperature is!The temperature adjustment is a simple knob. Those that desire more precision should perhaps opt for a digital model.

As far as the Wall Street Wine goes, I was disappointed.I thought that the big W Mart wine, going for $4, was much better. One reviewer complained about noise from this unit. There is some noise from the fan which runs all the time, but, unless you live in a mortuary, any noise would probably be overcome by your refrigerator, TV, or kids.At the price I paid, I was thinking about buying more units simply for storage of something! It is pretty cool looking!

Unless you think you can drink more than 6 bottles a day, when even I, a serious drinker, can't, I think this unit is a good choice. With the price increase I have just seen, you might evaluate other units.I definitely think that a non-compressor unit is the way to go for small (and cheap) coolers.

the part was not what I thought I ordered. It should have been a smooth plastic piece but instead had grooves in it. I had gotten the part number from Whirlpool so I don't know why it was the wrong part. It's had to tell in the picture what it looks like.

I wanted this to be a good filter -with the "greener" manufacturing process and Made in Canada cred -but it leaked in my 28.5 cu ft Samsung refrigerator.Apparently not an adequate replacement for the OEM DA29-00003 filter.

Update: I seem to have been able to get it to seal properly after taking it out and putting it in "backwards" and then taking it out again and putting it in "forwards."Totally random thing to do, but it hasn't leaked in 6 hours. We'll see.

I purchased this water filter a couple of weeks ago and just today (Mar 30th) attempted to install it.It was a futile attempt.Have used this brand before and they always worked fine. The instruction sheet now advises to soak the filter for a minimum of 15 minutes before installing. When 15 minutes proved insufficient, I soaked the filter another 20 minutes.Still to no avail. If I exerted any further pressure, I would run the risk of breaking the holding unit. The instruction sheet indicated that this filter is oversized to prevent possible leaking.I believe this oversizing may have gone a bit to far.The earlier units use to provide a small tube of gel lubricant to assist in sealing the filter. The manufacturer may want to reconsider and abandon the oversizing and return to the correct dimensions accompanied with a tube of gel.

Ordered this thinking that this filter would be a good alternative to the oem filter. When I received this filter, I soaked as advised and proceded to install it. Tried to get filter to lock in place and it would not turn and lock into place. Even with me putting pressure on it I could not get it to lock and seal. Needless to say this is not a good filter for the Samsung French Door Refrigerator.
