Cuisinart DLC-2A Mini Prep Plus 3-Cup 250-Watt Food Processor

Cuisinart DLC-2ATQ Mini-Prep Plus Processor, TurquoiseWhen I starting searching for a mini-chopper I was surprised by the huge rating difference between the Cuisinart DLC2 and the KitchenAid KFC3100, so I bought both and did a side-by-side comparison. The only explanation I can give for the ratings difference is that Cuisinart buyers must have higher expectations. For most operations they have nearly identical performance and for some operations the Cuisinart is the clear winner.

Onions:Many Cuisinart reviewers panned its performance here, claiming it made onion purée, but most KitchenAid reviewers praised its onion chopping ability.I found almost no difference between the two.Maybe its an issue with the instructions for chopped onions you must use a few short pulses.A few more pulses and you get minced onion more than this and both give you onion puree.I wouldn't say either is great at chopping onions, but both are equally mediocre.

I also tested chopping nuts, and making breadcrumbs with similar results. Both performed about the same for a course chop, although the Cuisinart produced a more even chop on the nuts, but its when you want a really fine chop that the Cuisinart starts to shine. The first reason for this is the grind feature found only on the Cuisinart. This spins the blade in the opposite direction which allows the flat, back-side of the blade to impact the food.More importantly, it redistributes the food, so if you've got a couple of chunks that refuse to be chopped, a short pulse in the opposite direction helps it drop into the blade. For perfect, fine breadcrumbs Ialternate between the normal chop mode for a few seconds, and grind for one second.

The other reason the Cuisinart gives a better fine chop is that it does a much better job of cycling the food through the blade. This is a real key when you're working with softer foods like spreads, pâtés or purees. When I made a cream cheese spread in both choppers the Cuisinart did a far quicker and better job of pulling the ingredients down the center and into the blade. The KitchenAid kept larger chunks bobbing on top.If you're making dips, spreads or baby food, the Cuisinart is the hands-down winner.

On the practical side, both choppers were equally easy to clean. Both have small holes in the lid for pouring in liquids on the fly, but only The KitchenAid has a slot for dry or thick ingredients if that's important to you.Overall, I found the Cuisinart easier to use for several reasons.First, the Cuisinart blade drops on easily, while the KitchenAid blade is keyed and I found myself turning it several times before it dropped in.Second, the KitchenAid lid must be removed first before you can lift off the bowl, but on the Cuisinart, the bowl and lid can be detached as an assembly. Finally, the Cuisinart blade has a "handle" that extends to the top of the bowl like a popsicle stick allowing you to remove the blade without getting your fingers in the food.

After all my testing, I really can't understand the large ratings difference between these two.Neither is perfect you'll never get a perfect, even, course chop with things like onions or chocolate, but they do come in handy. For many uses either one will give you pretty much the same results.Because of its advantage with softer foods and its ease of use, I recommend the Cuisinart.

I got this as a gift from my boyfriend and have been using it regularly. This is one of those things that you don't think you ever need (and I did give this topic extensive thought), but once you have it, you would really miss it.

The good is that it is really good at FINELY chopping things.

The bad is that it is really good at FINELY chopping things.

Keeping this in mind, I've learnt when to use and when to just use my knife. For instance, when chopping walnuts for banana bread, I put a cup of walnuts into the processor and hit "Chop" it immediately chopped the walnuts into good sized chunks, but there was a couple of walnuts that didn't get cut yet, so I hit the "Chop" button a couple more times, but that turned the rest of the walnuts to a very small almost "powder" consistency.I tried it again, with about the same results.I guess I could try putting in less walnuts at a time, but then that would defeat the purpose of "less work" since I'd have to put in a small amount, chop, dump out the first batch, repeat. It's much easier in this case to do a coarse chop with knife.Chopping Mushrooms in this device also was lacking, it kind of made a mushroom puree.

Where it shines though is in my daily meals where I'm making some kind of pan sauce.Just about all my pan sauces or pan meals start with butter/oil, then saute'ing some garlic and onions.I'll just peel a few cloves of garlic, coarse chop an onion, dump it all into the MiniPrep, and presto, it's done! When I'm ready to dump it into my pan, just remove the co, remove the blade and use a mini-silicone spatula to dump the contents directly into the pan.A quick rinse of the lid, blade, and work bowl, and the processor can be put away. That can't be any easier.

For larger meals and more ingredients, it's great to just coarsely chop your items, dump into the processor, let it do it's work, and then fill up your prep bowls with the different ingredients making everything easier once you're cooking.

I find the "Chop" and "Grind" feature to be pretty much the same thing, just in opposite directions. The opposite direction thing is helpful to get the food to drop down to the blade. If you don't put too much in the processor, once the piece is chopped, it gets flung to the sides of the work bowl and sticks there, creating empty space for the unchopped foods to drop into the blade.Everything gets chopped evenly...it just gets chopped very finely too.

The entire unit is very easy to use and clean. The blades are extremely sharp, so be careful when washing those. The clear plastic work bowl does get a little scratched up and not so clear anymore after a bit of use...but then, it's a work bowl. The buttons are under a protective plastic, sealed so no chance of anything getting under the buttons, just a quick wipe and it's clean!

Overall, the unit is small, solid, quiet, easy to use, and easy to clean. It's great for fine chops to puree, not so great for coarse chops/dice.Perfect size for meals for 2 people. For making larger meals you may want to look at the larger cup sized processors, or just make a couple of batches.

I have the Mini-Prep and I have the big guy version, but I use the MP 10x as much.It does everything!Want chopped garlic? peel a couple heads, add 2-3T of olive oil and about a 1/4-1/2tsp. of salt.It keeps in a jar in the fridge and tastes a heck of a lot better than the store kind!Fresh herbs, nuts, peppers without burning hands...it's great! When I'm done, I just rinse it out. This is my favorite appliance after my blender, and if this made smoothies and margaritas, it would be my favorite!

I had this Cuisinart DLC Miniprep first, and was not happy with it. I wanted a small food processor primarily to chop up an onion and some garlic cloves, and with the Cuisinart, I pretty much ended up doing almost all of the chopping before I put the food in the processor, otherwise large sections wouldn't get cut.

After reading the reviews here about how the Kitchenaid has the reverse sprial action which pulls down the food, I thought I'd try that one, and it's true!!The Kitchenaid KFC3100 is a superior product! Now I can just cut the onion into quarters and throw in whole garlic cloves and it cuts them all up perfectly. If your not sure which of the two products to buy, get the Kitchenaid KFC3100!

I read the reviews from others before buying the product--disregard the bad reviews about things turning to mush. The only way things turn to mush is if you hold the chop button down. If you do quick pulses, you get exactly what you want. This is the essential appliance because it helps to do exactly what the name says--prep. Often after coming home late I want to make a meal, but the thought of chopping onions, garlic or veggies seems daunting. Not with the mini-prep. It saves so much time.Plus I use fresh ingredients more often. I am completely happy with this product.

Danby 34 Bottle, Built-In Wine Cooler (Black) (34.06"H x 15"W x 24.75"D)

Danby 34 Bottle, Built-In Wine Cooler
  • 34 bottle (3.3cu. ft.) capacity
  • Electronic thermostat with LED display
  • Temperature range of 39.2°F - 64.4°F
  • Frost free operation
  • 1-2 weeks lead time. Standard shipping includes common carrier delivery to the curb. Additional charges may apply depending on delivery conditions.

We purchased the Dancy 54 Bottle Wine Cooler in stainless steel and within 4 months of operation, the unit ceased to cool and one side overheated.

As Danby claims to have a one year warranty, we called Danby and found that since we had purchased the cooler at the beginning of our remodel and did not install the unit until the renovation was complete, the warranty would not be honored as we were a mere two weeks past our warranty expiration date.

We let Danby know that the unit had only been in use for under four months, whereupon we asked if Danby would not honor the warranty, would they at least sell us another unit at cost, at which point Danby stated that they would not. Too bad, so sad, you'll just have to fork up another $900.00 for another unit, sucker.

PLEASE NOTE that you cannot get Danby wine or beverage coolers serviced, states Danby customer service, as they are "contained units" which means the entire unit has to be replaced under warranty, not just the cooling elements. If it breaks during the first year, they will OSTENSIBLY send you a new unit. But who knows if they will even honor their one year warranty, based upon their reluctance to handle the simplest of customer service issues with us. It took days to get to a representative and even then they completely refused to stand behind their product.

After several tries with Danby customer service to no avail, we contacted the President of Danby, whom we were sure would make this situation right but were completely ignored. I'll bet he gets a lot of calls and mail about this very thing. Do yourself a favor and save on shipping put $900 IN A PILE AND BURN IT rather than buy any Danby product. Better yet, buy another brand, as we did. Our new cooler works just fine and it can be repaired if it breaks, as it is 21st century technology. Our new unit was cheaper, too, and is better looking.

Come on! It's a little fridge, not rocket science, and they can't get a $900 wine cooler to work for more than four months without breaking down? I'd be interested to hear from any other Danby wine cooler purchasers as I have a suspicion that these units are manufactured to meet planned obsolescence of approximately one year as a means of bilking the consumer.

Yes, you heard me, Danby, if you read these reviews: Your customer service reps were too practiced in their denial of warranty coverage for us to believe that this is an uncommon occurrence. We'd also like to hear from you, Danby, since we've not received a reply to any of our communications for several months now.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Don't buy one of these -I received one that was DOA.I could actually see where the copper line coming out of the compressor wasn't connected.Danby wanted to send someone out to fix it.They gave me three "authorized repair" phone numbers in the Bay Area, but none of them would come to San Francisco. After going back and forth between Danby and the retailer, finally the retailer took it back and send me a new one that works for now.

Terrible quality.Even worse customer service by Danby.

I'd never buy another Danby wine cooler. I can't beleive how loud this unit is.It is so bad, I have to unplug it when we have company as it is too distracting.

Not happy with the wine cooler. It is too loud, with disturbing humming in the kitchen.

Otherwise, the shelves are little tight for the mentioned number of bottles to be stacked.

Item looks somewhat "cheaply made" and flimsy.

I installed this wine cooler where I had an existing 15' cabinet/drawer.Install was easy, the fitment is great. It doesn't make much noise while running, about the same as a regular fridge. It's packed with lots of useful features such as: roller shelves, temp display with digital readout, reversable door, lockable door, LED lighting, etc.We are very happy with it.

It seemed there was a national shortage on this specific part and a few emails back and forth I was forced to wait. And wait. Vinotemp VT-48TEDS Stainless Door with Black Wine Cabinet

Vinotemp VT-48TEDS Stainless Door with Black Wine Cabinet
  • Multiple temperature zones chill two types of wine
  • Ultra-quiet, vibration-free operation for noiseless storage
  • Energy-efficient thermoelectric cooling saves money and energy
  • Push button controls make operation easy
  • Interior light for added visibility

For the sake of disclosure, we have the VT-32TEDS (not the 48) but they are essentially the same thing.

The positives:It looks great, matches our kitchen perfectly and fits under an oddly sized counter, which is about 3/4" too short for just about every other manufacturer. It also runs quietly, most of the time.

The negatives:Our cooler arrived rather unceremoniously in the middle of our lawn, oddly several feet off the path that leads to the door.I don't necessarily blame Vinotemp or Amazon for this, but is was an omen of things to come.

After hauling it into the kitchen, I noticed that it had a large dent in the back corner, so I call Vinotemp customer service. They said that because their products are securely packed (in a cardboard box w/o styrofoam padding) that the dent must have happened while we were installing it.They did give me the option of shipping it back to them, at my cost, so that they could take a look at it but not guarantee a replacement.Since the dent was in back corner, I decided to just suck it up.

As I moved it into place, I also noticed that the doors were poorly hung and lopsided by almost 1/4".My door fun continued as I went to attach the handles, only to find out that the screw holes were drilled almost a full inch off.Vinotemp agreed to send out new handles, but couldn't do anything about the doors being uneven.

Now I'm about 6 months in and the thermometer on the right side goes out, so rather than displaying the temperature, it continually flashed "LO".Again, customer service couldn't do anything, although one guy suggested that I buy a digital BBQ thermometer and just keep it in one of the wine slots.Since we aren't using this to age great wines and the right side was still some indeterminate level of cold, I once again decided to suck it up.

Somewhere around this time we also started having problems with ice build-up, which would rub against the fans causing them to squeal loudly and I think would eventually stop the fans and kill the motors. We figured out a method to defrost it, but it involves unloading the whole thing, hot water, bicycle water bottles and a lot of towels.Expect to do this 2-3 times a year.I realize that it is a fridge, but this seems a bit excessive.

Most recently, one of the control boards in the back went out, making a really annoying repeated buzzing sound and leaving one side at room temperature. They do sell replacements for this, but in now expected fashion, this was a problem as well. After calling to place the order & give them my CC#, they said that they would confirm the order via e-mail and then send it out.No e-mail, but they called the next day and confirmed the order with my wife.2 weeks later no part. After I called again, they realized that they forgot to e-mail me the form that they needed signed & faxed (yes, faxed) back so that they could reconfirm and process the order.A week and a half later, I readied myself for my repair project, removed the back panel, but then quickly found out that they had sent the wrong part.Mistakes happen, so I e-mailed the customer service rep, explained the problem and asked if they could send out the correct part. She told me that I would need to call customer service and gave me the number to call.I called customer service, heard a familiar voice, and after checking the phone number in the e-mail, I confirmed that I was talking to the same person I had e-mailed 30 minutes prior. So, after repeating my story, effectively reading my original e-mail, she put me on hold... for 10 or 15 minutes. After all that I was rewarded with the knowledge that the part was on back order and that they would probably send it out in 2-4 weeks.

Given the numerous problems I have had with the product itself combined with the company and its employees, I couldn't recommend this to anyone that I didn't really dislike. This is really a poor product, wrapped in a pretty exterior, so it is a bad choice unless they were dressing a set or staging a house and don't need it to actually work for any length of time.Sorry Vinotemp, I really wanted to like it.

Buy Vinotemp VT-48TEDS Stainless Door with Black Wine Cabinet Now

When I first received this unit I thought it was exactly what I wanted for my small but relatively pricey collection. It has dual temperature controls and was quiet enough to besituated in a guest bedroom.I am also not in this home for about 6 months a year and it was important to keep the temperature of the wine from fluctuating. It served my purposes for 13 months. One side complete broke down and the other side lost its readout numbers. Imagine my chagrin was toldthat it would cost between $300 and $400 to repair. I only paid $549 foritso I was advised by the repairman to junk it and purchase either a very cheap one (knowing it would only last a few years) or to invest ina very expensive one. Apparently those in the middle are not worth it. For the moment I will use the Vinotemp until the second side quits and then decide.

Accordingly, I would not recommend this item to anyone. You are just throwing money away.

My used GE Profile (TFX25PPBGBB) quit cooling and it turned out the freezer coil was a solid block of ice. I replaced the defrost timer, defrost thermostat, and this heater. The heater was a perfect replacement, fit exactly, and I just now ran the fridge through a defrost cycle and watch the heater glow red for 15 minutes or so until the thermostat clicked it off. Clearly it's working properly. Great price and I expect I'll get another 10 years out of this fridge now. Happy:)

SO much cheaper than buying from the manufacturer. Found instructions on utube, installed it myself in 15 minutes.Works better than the one included when frig was purchased. Definitely worth it.

My freezer portion of my refrigerator/freezor kept freezing up in one solid piece of ice.I replaced the heater element (this product) and the thermostat for less than $50 total and the problem is solved.I was expecting aa service repair person to charge me nearly $1,000 had I used them instead.Try this first; it's easy, effective, and if your coils are freezig up; this is likely your problem.Tip: Remove the old one, use a continutiy tester. If the heater is not continuous, then it needs to be replaced.Simple.

Keggermeister KM2800BK Kegerator Full-Size Single-Tap Beer Refrigerator and Dispenser, Black

Keggermeister KM2800BK Kegerator Full-Size Single-Tap Beer Refrigerator and Dispenser, Black
  • Full-size single-tap beer dispenser keeps beer fresh for up to 3 months
  • Accommodates a full-size keg, pony keg, or 2 5-gallon kegs
  • Adjustable temperature control; 3-sided chrome guard rail around top work surface
  • Smooth-rolling casters; UL-approved for commercial use; CO2 bottle included
  • Measures 25 by 21 by 49 inches

The Keggermeister Kegerator comes packaged in double "double walled" boxes with a lot of Styrofoam packaging materials and materials. All of the minor components are neatly organized in a separate box inside of the Kegerator fridge. After removing all the pieces and laying them out, I began to read the instruction manual. The manual content is very clear and concise with well illustrated pictures on the assembly of the unit and pieces. The box was undamaged in shipping

Assembly is fairly simple, anyone with basic knowledge of hand tools should have no problem. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get it put together and running, the one thing I would advise any owner is to take your time and learn the pieces of the dispensing system while you assemble it. This is critical in understanding how everything works in order to be able to trouble shoot any issues should they arise.

The unit comes with a 2.5lb C02 tank that I was able to get filled up for less than ten bucks. I recommend a local paint ball shop since they are better equipped to fill this size of tanks up. Welding supply shops also work.

Once everything is assembled and it was plugged in it turned right on and gave a silent hum as if to let me know it was on. Even with the compressor cycling on and off it still maintains a very minimal noise level.

After allowing the refrigerator to operate with no keg in it for 24 hours I decided to give it a test drive. The first keg used was a Full Keg of Budlight. After letting the Keg sit and cool in the Kegerator for another 24 hours it was time for the first pour which resulted in nothing but foam. After doing a bit of trouble shooting I realized I had opened the valve on the C02 tank all the way for max flow. This resulted in over pressurizing the keg. To fix this I closed the valve and adjusted the regulator to having it near closed. I then pulled the pressure release pin on the coupler releasing the built up C02 in the keg.The next glass I poured came out perfectly pure golden bliss with a decent layer of foam.

About 40 minutes layer I tried to fill up a pitcher of beer and was presented with a near perfect pour. This was more than enough of evidence that there was a consistent pressure and was at an optimal level for consistent pouring.

The exterior has a nice black matte finished that goes well with any décor. The chrome guardrail and stainless steel spout add a nice touch to the overall exterior of the unit. Cleanup is easy and was simple with just a bit of standard surface cleaner.I was also able to change out the tap handle with a standard Brewing Company handle.

Keg's that have been run through this unit: Pyramid Hefeweizen, Budlight, Budweiser, Dos Equis

I ordered this this product three weeks ago and would give this ZERO stars if possible. The first one that shipped (7/19/10) to me had a defective spout that did not lock into place.I called amazon on Tuesday 7/20/10 and they were extremely helpful.Amazon had a new one shipped to me two days later on a Thursday 7/22/10. I Assembled the keggermeister on Friday 7/23/10, plugged it in on Saturday 7/24/10 to see if it worked...and it did!!!On Wednesday 7/28/10, I bought a keg of Dales Pale ale and had the CO2 tank filled and set the kegger to the "med" setting and put a few bottles of beer inside.By Friday 7/30/10 the CO2 tanked was completely empty because there was a leak in the hose, the bottles of beer were completely frozen, and the Dales pale ale tasted stronger then normal.I had the tank refilled on Saturday 7/31/10, replaced the hose, and turned the kegger all the way down to min.On Sunday 8/1/10, I went to go and get a beer and nothing came out...I thought that was kind of strange so I unhooked the keg to see if it was tapped and it seemed there was no beer left but still on the heavy side...so i left it outside and turned the kegger off.On Monday night 8/2/10 when I got home from work, I wanted to go and return the keg at the liqueur store, but when I picked it up, there was still beer...and ICE in it.So on the lowest setting on the kegger froze my beer!Today is Tuesday 8/3/10 and I am going to contact Amazon and return the keg.DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

I bought the stainless version despite the negative reviews and I'm happy I did. I unpackaged the kegerator, which was a challenge because there was about 4 layers of cardboard/padding protecting it, and let it sit unplugged for about 12 hours since it was laid on its back. Read the directions, which dont give the best pictures but there are also some great vids on youtube, and had everything assembled within an hour. Came with a dual pressure regulator even though the directions show one, which is a huge plus. Comes with doubles of ALL O-rings and small parts

But you get what you pay for -

Tap on tower doesnt stick straight out at you (might be a fluke on mine. Its about a 4:00 spot)

Tower wont spin and lock if rubber gasket is used. Not a problem but it the principle of the matter

Max Cool temp is about 42*F

I would give this zero stars if possible, this kegerator doesn't get below 40 degrees even on the max setting. My first keg i bought was a five gallon keg, half of it was easily wasted because of foam, then a few days later out of the blue i start getting perfect pours. I didn't adjust ANYTHING i had a glass of water at the bottom of the kegerator with a thermometer in it and it was still at 40 degrees, so i know that the temp inside didnt change. the psi was the same as well (according to the regulator that comes with the unit)So when i finished my first keg i bought my second one, waited 24 hours before using it and still got 100% foam, i have adjusted the co2 pressure numerous times, i cleaned the lines before i put my second keg in, yet the best pour i ever got was about 2/3s foam. The faucet on the tower is now loose as well and falling out of the tower. The keg coupler also leaks CO2 out of the pressure relief valve, causing my CO2 tank to last about a 1/3 as long as it should. There is nothing good i can say about this kegerator. Also when it first arrived the fridge door fell off, and the vinyl part on top of the kegerator hung down so low that it would prevent the door from closing, I had to stick pieces of cardboard under it so that the door could shut! This is just a kegerator with inferior parts. Waste of my money, I am now going to have to pay to replace the tower, faucet, lines, regulator, and buy an external temperature control that will override the kegerators thermostat so that the unit can get cold enough. I couldn't regret this purchase more.

Doesn't keep pressure correctly.Had to get a new regulator with 2 guages on it. Keg and co2 tank barely fit inside. Waste of money.
