I bought this unit to replace the one on my Amana Model SRD21VW-P1315501WW. The refridgerator called out for a Defrost Thermostat R0161088 which is the same sensor unit with a large harness and several connectors which cost $34 and required running wires through the back wall of the freezer compartment.

My freezer kept getting stuck in a defrost cycle (ice cubes melt and then freezing back into a big chunk). To test, I cut the old one out of the existing harness, leaving about 4" inches on the thermostat. I then put the T-Stat in ice water to check for continuity and removed it to if it opened at around 40-50 degrees. The thermostat failed so I ordered this one as a replacement.Crimped on male and female connectors to the harness and the new thermostat and voila! My refridgerator was back in business.

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection Plan ($100-125)

SquareTrade 4-Year Appliance Protection PlanI did a fair amount of looking into this extended warranty service since there weren't any Amazon reviews yet, so I thought I would report what I learned in case it is helpful to anyone else.

Short version for impatient readers:

====================================

If the item is $100 and the warranty is $25 for 4 years, then you're paying $25 for up to $100 of any repairs occurring within 4 years, with zero deductible. In effect, the first $25 of repair costs are prepaid (the purchase price of the warranty is basically an up-front, one-time deductible), and up to $75 of further repair costs will be free. This is a bad deal if you believe you're buying a reliable product, or you expect to upgrade within 2-3 years anyway (iPod, cell phone). This is a good deal if you believe there is a high risk of failure on an item you want to last you for 5+ years (microwave oven).

My rating is three stars because they're more likely to make money from you than you are to have a faulty product, and because I have no experience with their claims process.

Long version for OCD consumers like myself:

====================================

THE SELLER

-------------------------

SquareTrade's rating as a seller on Amazon is very high, but skimming through those comments it appears they are all from customers who just purchased the service, not from customers who have seen their warranty through to the end. Unfortunately I didn't find any that commented on any their claims experience, as the quality of an extended warranty is ultimately decided by the fine print of the contract and the customer service of the claim process. But for what it's worth, I'd rate the ease of purchase 4-stars. The procedure is:

1) add to cart & purchase

2) create an account on the SquareTrade website

3) forward your Amazon purchase confirmation email to them with a special code copied from the SquareTrade site pasted into the subject line

4) no paperwork needs to be saved, the contract and receipt are maintained online

HOW IT WORKS

-------------------------

1) if your product breaks due to electrical or mechanical failure, file a claim through the SquareTrade website

2) they send you a free shipping label to send the item to their central repair center and they guarantee a 5-day turnaround or the price of your warranty is refunded

3) they decide whether to repair it or to reimburse you the original purchase price if the repair will be more expensive than the reimbursement

WHAT YOU'RE REALLY BUYING

-------------------------

The warranty works kind of like a debit account. If your original purchase price is $100, then the maximum value of the warranty is $100 and any repairs or reimbursements are deducted from that amount. For example, if they gave you a $100 repair or reimbursement in year 2 of a 4-year warranty, then the warranty "is considered fulfilled", in other words you are no longer covered for the remainder of the 4-year period.

During the time the product is covered by the original manufacturer's warranty, SquareTrade will do nothing more than give you the contact info to file a claim with the manufacturer. If the item is repaired or replaced by the manufacturer, the SquareTrade warranty will continue to apply to the repaired/replaced item from the original purchase date.

IS IT WORTH IT?

-------------------------

It depends on what product you'd be buying it for since repair rates and costs vary. Although their price is cheaper and/or their warranty is longer than some other options, 20-25% of the purchase price still isn't exactly cheap. And if this warranty worked out in the customer's favor more often than not then SquareTrade wouldn't be in business.

I purchased this warranty for a microwave oven, because in my opinion the failure rate is unacceptably high for any brand. I expect a microwave to last much more than four years but I don't trust that it will because it's not to the manufacturer's advantage for it to have a long life. Read the review section for any microwave on Amazon, on you will find from 10-50% of reviewers angry that their new microwave suddenly died. Many complain that their old [insert name brand] microwave lasted 10+ years, and this new [insert name brand] microwave died within two years. I suspect that microwaves are the sort of product that manufacturers have tuned their cost/quality/warranty trade-offs so that the price is low, the failure rate is high, and the mean-time-to-failure is only slightly longer than the typical warranty period of one year.

So I thought this coverage was worth it for a new microwave. If it dies, I'll essentially get a new one for $26. If it doesn't die, then I dodged a bullet and in four years I won't mind having paid $6.50/year for lemon insurance.

I just made my first claim under a Square Trade warranty on our dishwasher. I was astounded at the speed with which my initial claim was reviewed (and it was submitted and approved on a holiday weekend) and how fast the repair was authorized. The repair costs were reimbursed in full almost immediately after I submitted the repair invoice with no quibble whatsoever. From beginning to end, the service level was top-flight, including telephone interaction with a company representative. I have a half-dozen other Square Trade warranties in effect and I am glad I purchased the extra protection and at such a low cost in every instance. I virtually never buy manufacturer or retail store extended warranties because they are far too expensive to cost justify, especially for electronice devices. With Square Trade coverage, that's not the case and I will continue to buy warranty protection from them. Now that I have actually made a claim with Square Trade and have seen first-hand how smooth the process is, I have total confidence in the protection offered by all of my other existing extended warranties.

When I bought a new GE countertop microwave over a year ago, I bought a 3-year extended warranty with Sqaretrade for it, but after that I forgot about that.

Last month the GE microwave stop working all of sudden, could not power up and it just ran out of one-year product warranty, it's not worth repairing and I was going to trash it and buy a new one next few days. Lukily and surprisingly I found that I had bought extended warranty for it with SquarTrde, I immediately made a phone call to claim the warranty, guess what? it just took me 5 minutes and I was told I will get the full refund for the price of the microwave (bought the extended warranty for $9) after signing the paperwork, I even did not need to return the broken microwave, surprise! surprise!! surprise!!! Next day I bought a new microwave and immediately bought another extended warranty with SquarTrade, peace of mind! highly recommended!

This was one of the easiest, most satisfying things I have done ever. The guy on the phone was great, the form was easy and the result was perfect. Hooray for this company, they really know the meaning of customer service. Who would have thought in this day and age I could find a product that was reasonable, cheap even, and so worthy of purchase?

Metropolitan Professionals ADM-4PNHSF 13 Amp 4-Horsepower Canister Vacuum with Quadruple Hepa Filtr

Metropolitan Professionals ADM-4PNHSF 13 Amp 4-Horsepower Canister Vacuum with Quadruple Hepa Filtration and Electric Power Nozzle
  • Sturdy stainless steel body
  • Features 4.0-php twin fan motor
  • 4-stage hepa filter system
  • Electric power nozzle assembly
  • Includes a complete set of cleaning accessories

UPDATE: WOULD REDUCE TO 2 STARS. At no charge, the manufacturer sent a replacement cover to correct the broken rivet. The customer service was good. They suggested bending the wheel into place to straighten the Now, however, 17 months after purchase, the electric power nozzle does not turn on. This follows on several weeks of the nozzle turning on and off intermittently. Now I wish I had purchased the vacuum from a physical store with a buyer protection program. My new strategy is to buy cheap vacuums on a buyer protection plan and get the broken parts replaced. This was way too expensive for the grief.

ORIGINAL: I bought this because I was tired of the expensive, plastic vacuums falling apart within the first year of use. While this vacuum is incredibly powerful (indeed it sucks the area rugs right off the floor) it's not the indestructible stainless steel canister vacuum of my childhood. Within the first 4 months a rivet broke loose from the canister, making it impossible to close the vacuum. I tape it shut for use now. One wheel drags as well, leaving long black scuff marks on my white floors. I'm underwhelmed, but perhaps the manufacturer will make good on the warranty.

I bought this vacuum for a few reasons:

1) All the brand name vacuums listed on consumer reports have user reviews that said the vacuums were not that good

2) the user reviews for this vacuum were much higher, albeit fewer people, but I looked at both models too.

3) The reviews of this vacuum made it sound like it was amazing

I am truly wondering if the previous reviewers all worked for the company.

While I will say this IS a good vacuum, it does not live up to the hype and quite frankly lacks some key modern features or has some poor quality aspects

1) The cord just hangs out there with no place to go.You can wrap it around the body but that is a pain in the @$$.

2) The spare attachments hang onto a flimsy plastic carrier that poorly snaps onto the vacuum tube/pole

3) the long pole attachment (not the set that goes to the power nozzle but the other long one for the non powered attachments) does not clip.As you are vacuuming the pole will frequently fall off onto the floor.

4) The documentation / instructions for this vacuum are very poor at best. All you basically get is a poor quality single sheet of paper with very vague instructions. When you unwrap the vacuum, you have 4 poles and it takes a while to figure out why 4 (2 for the power nozzle and 2 for non power). No help from the directions. All it says is to attach the poles. You also are left wondering about the bag and filter insertion. there is absolutely nothing about proper installation.

5) You have two power buttons. One on the main body of the vacuum and one for the power nozzle. When using the power nozzle this design makes no sense at all.You have to turn the body power on, and then you have to turn the power nozzle power on. When you shut the power nozzle off, the vacuum is still running and still needs to be shut off.The button on the body is a toggle switch. Low to the left, Off in the middle, and High to the right. It takes some getting used to when trying to switch it off to not go completely from low-high (or high-low) instead of stopping in the middle.

The vacuum has very good suction, but it certainly won't suck the chrome off a trailer hitch. :-)

minus 1 star for horrible documentation

minus 1 star for dumb power controls

minus 1 star for nothing modern on the features/attachments

I almost wanted to give another minus 1 star for not living up to the hype.

I am not totally disappointed with the vacuum. It basically works fine. And I am not sure how happy I would be with the brand name vacuums with so many real people rating them low. I might still buy this vacuum if I did it again. But my expectations would be much lower.

UPDATE 12/27/2009: OK its been 3 months and I would change the stars to 0.My wife says she clearly hates this vacuum and I have to agree it is a pain in the @$$ to use.It works as a vacuum just fine but how you use it is such a pain it makes the thought of going around and picking up each piece of dirt by hand sound more attractive. Clearly previous reviewers had to be employees of the company and were forced to leave positive comments.

We just opened the box. It took all of 5 minutes to put it together. First thing I checked was the suction. It was great. Two negatives, no auto cord recoil and the exhaust is loud. It is well built, glides nicely along the floor, comes with all the accessories, including two extra chrome metal wands, has a powerful rug beater and the bare floor nozzle has great bristles. It is light weight so it is easy to carry up the stairs and makes it OK to clean the stairs, although I wish the hose was longer. We have had all types of vacuums, Oreck upright, sharp canister, Hoover canister, shop vacs, etc. After all is said and done, when you get right down to it, you have to use a canister vac if you want to really clean. It allows you to get the dirt and dust in those hard to reach places and an upright is simply not going to cut it. We looked at all the vacs, Electrolux, Dyson, Eureka, Kenmore, Bla, Bla, Bla, Ba Bla. Based on price, performance, ease of use, durability and good old SUCTION!, this Metro is the sucker of all house vacs, bar none. It has a toggle switch for low and high suction and the power head is well made. My wife just made a comment that it is LOUD, but man it really feels like the house is clean!! Go for it!!!

Want Metropolitan Professionals ADM-4PNHSF 13 Amp 4-Horsepower Canister Vacuum with Quadruple Hepa Filtr Discount?

The classic look of the Metro was what caught my eye, and then I was seduced by the horsepower and the fact that this machine is made in the USA.I have long said that if some American company really wanted to reclaim its market from China, all they needed to do was go back to building a vacuum cleaner that is built to last, rather than disposable. In fact, if the US were serious about helping the environment, Congress should pass legislation against the planned obsolescence that is the guiding principle of the vacuum cleaner industry.

But I digress. What came out of the box was, well, a canister.Steel, with chrome-plated ends--not as pretty as pictured; quite utilitarian-looking and mostly reminiscent of a tin can. There was a nice, sturdy-looking hose, quality steel wands, and one very cheesy, probably Chinese, powerhead.Oh, and some equally cheesy small attachments: an undersized upholstery attachment, crevice tool, and dust brush.

The steel is a unique look, and the body and wheels seemed sturdy. The switch is indeed a plain metal three-position toggle. The cord wraps around a "halo" of metal at the rear end.One disturbing feature is that the hose is secured by metal pushbuttons into the bag compartment. This means that in order to remove the hose (say, to clear a clog or use as a blower), you have to remove the bag lid.I was afraid to push the hose into the exhaust opening (which would be necessary to clear a clog or use as a blower) for fear that the pushbuttons would make it impossible to remove. The "instructions" consist of a single sheet of Xeroxed paper containing very little useful information.Bags are hard to find;the ones offered here on Amazon are NOT the right ones for this machine, and I ordered more by calling the manufacturer, since their website was essentially useless.

This is not what I'd expect from a machine at this price point, but for "Made in USA" and power I put it to work, and power it does deliver--though with some tradeoffs. The canister, for its plain looks, works well, but as previous reviewers noted, it does get very hot during use.It BLASTS air out the back end--which my kids found fun, but which meant that I had to hold it pointing upward so as to avoid blowing dust across the hard floors I was vacuuming. The power was substantial enough to actually USE one of the turbo-brush stair tools that were absolutely useless with the Bissell machines they came with.Noise was significant, but not awful--much of it the sound of that rushing exhaust. There was some odor of burning rubber, maybe from the powerhead, and several kids complained that the exhaust stunk.

Moreover, the powerhead rattled. And when I opened it up to find out why (a nasty process involving two sizes of screwdrivers), I saw that a part was broken during manufacture--not surprising, because this powerhead is made of extremely cheap components which can't withstand the stress of being screwed into place.Worse still, I noted that I was going to have to screw and unscrew this cheap plastic each time a change of belt was required.Replacement powerheads are a hundred dollars from the manufacturer--and probably worth about five.(For the record, I noticed this same chintzy powerhead with a Royal canister vac in the store, albeit with some cosmetic changes.)

So, mine's on its way back to Amazon, and I've sprung for an even more expensive, German machine that will (hopefully) last awhile.

I don't know why I did not buy one sooner. This thing could suck the chrome off of a trailer hitch!!! I live in an older home and it actually took a piece off old wall paper that had been painted right off of the wall. I'm telling you, this is the vacuum to beat all vacuums. I have told everyone I know to buy one and not waste their money on store brand. I love it!!! I named mine Wilma. These guys know what they are doing.

My 3 year old Kenmore fridge failed (freezer compartment fine, but refrigerator compartment did not cool).I diagnosed the problem as the evaporator fan motor. This motor from Amazon is a compatible (hopefully improved) replacement part for a number of Frigidaire, Electrolux and Kenmore refrigerators. The price, with shipping was about 1/3 that of the "official" Kenmore part from Sears (same part #).

It differs slightly in structure from the original failed part, but I had no problem mounting and connecting it.Hopefully this is a better quality part than the original piece of crap that died after less than 3 years. My repaired fridge is now working great.

The part was shipped from PA, so I expected quick delivery to a northeast address.USPS tracking was provided, but it continued to show a date 26 days away, even on the day it arrived, 3 days after order.Great delivery performance -dumb tracking info!

I ordered 2 of these, delighted to have a replacement for the DA29-00003G Samsung filter at a great price. However, it does NOT work for our fridge requiring the DA29-00003G filter.. Ours is a French Door model purchased 6/2011, so perhaps Samsung made a slight change in the new model? The locking mechanism used on the Samsung version of the filter is different, and this filter cannot be turned that 1/4 turn to lock in place. The model number on our fridge is RF268AB in case that helps anyone.

I purchased this water filter as a replacement for my original OEM Samsung water filter for my refrigerator and it saved me a lot of money.

Only thing you don't get that the OEM filter includes (which is what kept me from giving it a five star rating), are the 12 month reminder stickers to replace the filter. However, you can just use a permanent marker and just write the month on the filter itself.

After much research and many, many reviews read, I chose the Filter ACE+ replacement for our Samsung refrigerator. Since our refrigerator is only a year old, this was the first replacement we needed to make and I was unsure about using a 'substitute' filter. The good news is that it took my husband seconds to install the filter and it works exactly as the original Samsung filter did. Since there is no indicator on the filter itself, we put the date of installation on it with a felt marker. Our refrigerator has an indicator light that will let us know when it is time to replace the filter and I am interested to see exactly how long this filter actually lasts.

Want Filter ACE+ Replacement filter compatible with Samsung Refrigerator Water Filter DA29-00003A DA29-0 Discount?

Water filters are such a rip off, it was nice to find this guy on the market as a direct replacement for the OEM Samsung unit -And for almost HALF the price, I was willing to take a chance.

So, comparing side by side, these are not just relabeled Samsung filters. The case is clearly different, and there are less manufacture markings on the plastic.

The good:

No Chlorine Taste/Smell.

Water is Clear. (No sediment at the bottom of a glass after it has sat for 24 hours).

Installs perfectly.

The Odd:

Yes. Water pressure in increased. If you have an old/worn water dispenser this may not work out in your favor, and the increased pressure may cause vales to leak, or take longer to close.

More water pressure makes me think there is less filter material/carbon inside the filter. I'll update this review if it seems to not last as long.

For now, I'm sold. Money well saved.

P.s. If your fridge doesn't have a reminder system built in... Just remember to take a Sharpie and write the date on the filter.

This is nearly 1/2 the price of the name brand at my local home improvement store. It installed easily in my Samsung fridge and the most important thing it doesn't leak. I'll be buying more of these.
