Also, I replaced the Pre-Filter that came with the unit with an Activated Carbon filter and it makes a huge difference removing odors in the air. The case/holder for the black pre-filter comes apart by releasing several clips that hold the two halves together. I used my fingernails and pulled downwards. The clips are attached the center piece which latches to the outside bezel (you need to pull down/inwards on the center piece).

I've had zero issues with this unit since I purchased this back in '10. I've literally ran this non-stop for almost two years with the UV Light function ON and surprisingly, non of the UV Lamps or ozone plate have failed...yet. I've replaced the HEPA filter a couple of times and I regularly replace the pre-filter every month to two months using bulk activated carbon filter which I cut to fit the unit.
As I mentioned in my original post, this is a very well built, solid unit. If I ever need another unit, I will not hesitate in purchasing another one.

October 10, 2010. After using for several weeks now, have to downgrade to three (3) stars, as second hand smoke from neighbors below is not being handled at all, which is the purpose for which I made this purchase. If you need to remove household or cooking odors, it is excellent, however.
Ordered this yesterday, received it this morning via Fed Ex (only about 30 miles from vendor).I could not go to bed without leaving a comment.Am in an apartment with non-stop, chain smokers downstairs, which was the reason for my purchase.With the unit on low (only 700 sq. ft. apt) it removed all trace of the smoke.I cook with copious onions one to two times per day, this morning it quickly removed the odor while cooking.But, the biggest test of all, and of which I was entirely skeptical, was on the residual pesticide that was applied to my bedroom walls after a professional black mold abatement was needed from a water leak in this brand new apt.The chemicals they applied in middle April were still knocking me out today.I have chronic bronchitis and severe chemical allergies.Every time I would try to spend the night in the room I developed a sore throat, runny nose, swollen eyes, and itchy skin, not to mention the lingering putrid stench.I have been sleeping in the living room only.I placed the generator in the room at 8 PM tonight, cranked up the fan, the purifier, the anions, and the sterilizer (all on the handy remote), closed the door, and waited 30 minutes.Following the directions, I cracked the door and remotely turned off the machine and stayed out of the room for one hour.When I opened the door IT WAS THE SWEETEST SMELLING ROOM IN THE APARTMENT AND OF ANY ROOM IN MY MEMORY.Any and all hint of a smell is gone.I even noticed my skin doesn't itch any more, which started after they applied those chemicals.I AM AMAZED.Being disabled, it was very difficult to part with this money, but I literally, was suffocating to death from the smoke.I hope this lasts, and can stand up to alot of wear, cause it is going to work alot.Will update down the road...

So far. Product came quick with delivery. Everything seems to be intact. Very very quiet!. but, when the purifier is in effect there is slight noise irritation, but it gets the job done to do what its good at which is purifying my apartment homes air. So far so good. A+

It is easy to use and really pumps out the ozone and/or ions when set on high.The only slight disappointment was that the "timer" is really only a one-time on or off switch.It needs to be reset every time the machine turns off.I would recommend this machine to anyone in the market for any one of its cleaning functions.
