First, let me say that I'm a huge fan of most Samsung products.I have owned multiple Samsung cell phones, TVs, monitors, computers, and other products.I have heard the praises on Samsung washers and dryers. All of that led me to buy the RF217ACRS (or RF217ACPN) refrigerator. Its size was perfect for the kitchen I had and at first glance I thought it was a good appliance.

Within two weeks of having it delivered the refrigerator and freezer was intermittent. The freezer temperatures varied greatly and I ended up with a freezer of melted ice cream and thawed out products.I used manual thermometers in both the refrigerator and freezer and quickly learned that it hardly ever kept the temperatures that were displaying on its digital readings. The manual thermometers were placed at different areas and it still never matched. The freezer would be at -25 degrees one moment and +30 degrees the next, all the while the digital gauge on the unit said it was -2 or 0.Frost was constantly melting and refreezing.

Thankfully, the store agreed to pick up this unit and deliver a replacement.Thinking I got a lemon, I just got another Samsung RF217ACRS.Within another month, the replacement unit (completely new, although same model) was doing the same thing. The store agreed to replace it again and I then quickly switched brands. After ditching Samsung, I'm happy to say that I'm thrilled.I now have a refrigerator that cools and a freezer that freezes, but it is NOT a Samsung. It's amazing how happy a customer can be when an appliance does what it is supposed to.

Now, even if you decide to buy the RF217ACRS (or RF217ACPN) after reading about the problems I had, let me tell you about the features of the refrigerator. The stainless steel finish is nice and the EZ Open Freezer handle is a great touch. However, you will not get many features on the inside. While the shelving units are adjustable, they do not adjust enough. You can only adjust them a couple of inches in a few directions. Most of the door shelves turn out to be too small to even use unless you just omit one of the shelves to increase the height of the others.Other units offer shelves with much more adjustable heights to them. After you look at other brands, you will see that Samsung missed the mark on designing the interior of this unit.

You can fit a gallon of milk in the doors, but don't even try to fit a one gallon pitcher of tea or something similar on the shelves. The noise level is a bit higher than I expected. It is not quiet, but it is manageable. The lighting is too dim.I know they are using LED lights to save energy, but there needs to be more light. When opening the freezer door you often spill ice into the bottom of the freezer or worse, your kitchen floor. The ice maker comes down too far into the ice bucket causing it to knock cubes off when opening/closing the door.

At the end of the day, I was never thrilled about the abilities or features of this Samsung refrigerator. When major problems surfaced, that just put the nails in the coffin.I was completely dissatisfied with this model and Samsung's customer service (I did call them after the second malfunction).I cannot recommend this model and likely cannot recommend any Samsung refrigerator.

We were looking for a newer, energy efficient refrigerator to replace our old 1993 GE one -ANDone that will fit in the small space under the cabinets. This one just fits and has the freezer on the bottom.

We were so sick of "losing" our leftovers, fruits and other goodies to the back of the fridge, only to find it a week later, spoiled. I'm glad we chose the french doors, but I wish the shelves were split instead of one long shelf. The only place to put our milk jars and ice tea and lemonade is in the door on the bottom shelf. So we can fit 2 1/2 gallon jars from the dairy farmer and one jug of lemonade. Anything else and we're out of luck. This would not be ideal for soda drinking families who do not wish to store 2 liters on their sides. Our booze has to lay down on its side on shelves. Meh. I hope it doesn't leak.

The old refrigerator had probably too much door space. When I tried putting everything from that one into this new fridge, I ended up tossing some of the odd sauces or jellies we had. The freezer portion wasn't so bad. Yes, I suppose this is a large freezer, but we buy our meat a month ahead of time from a rancher and need to store quite a bit. One half of the bottom basket is crammed full of 30-40 lbs of meat. The other half has some boxed foods, corn dogs, french toast sticks, plus all our frozen bagged veggies. There is room in the upper tray for all our ice cream products, a frozen pizza and other misc items. The rest of the upper tray is the ice maker, which takes awhile to get going according to the manual. We've only had the fridge for 24 hours, so I can't comment yet on how quickly it will make ice.

I will say that this refrigerator is whisper quiet. I don't know if it's running unless I open it for something. It uses half the electricity of the older one (we stuck a Kill-o-Watt on it before decommissioning it). It's probably a good thing that I can't fit 500 little jars of what-not in the doors--it's more streamlined and less cluttered and that means less to clean when a jar tips over and leaks. The produce drawers are huge! The meat/cheese drawer, not so much. There is plenty of shelf space for leftovers, if not for drinks.

Your lifestyle will dictate whether or not this is the right refrigerator for you. If you have lots of leftovers/take-out, you're good to go. If your family is frozen pre-packaged food eating as opposed to cooking, you'll get by, but you'll need to shop at least every other week. And of course if you are a cooking family, this will be just fine. Beer drinkers, if you don't need both produce drawers for veggies, then you can fit at least a 24 pack of long-necks in one of the drawers. Awesomeness. Big 2 liter or milk and OJ drinkers? Take a good look at the shelf configuration.

This Fridge failed after 10.5 months of use. The compressor would not kick on and all my food spoiled. Before that the compressor was noticeably loud from day one. I have been hardly home and the fridge got very little real use.It looks good and I used to love how it looked in my modern kitchen, but now I am very disappointed. Buy at your own risk! Also, I suggest that you search for reviews of the same fridge in different colors (all the same under the hood) to make a more informed choice!

One star means I hate it.A PERFECT DESCRIPTION of how I feel about this POS.

Noisy.Clunky.The lack of options for placing shelves where you want them especially in the doors is appalling. The icemaker broke after 11 months of use because we left the scoop in the ice cube bin.... which is where it was when the unit was delivered. Nothing in the manual about "don't do that".

The stainless steel front is a pain to keep clean; the only product I've found that really does remove smudges is citrus oil, but you have to be VERY careful about how you spray it; if the oil spray lands on the floor you've got a slippery oily mess in front of your refrigerator.

While polishing the stainless yesterday, I noticed two distinct rows of RUST SPOTS running down the freezer door; clearly the stainless steel was damaged in production.YET ANOTHER warranty call.

Samsung's website is a horror I can't get in even after multiple password resets.Their online chat support is typical:"Neil" (who's real name has to be Rashnish) takes 5 minutes to say "Sorry for your inconvenience"... Oh for the love of god kill me.

I never would have purchased this refrigerator but had no choice when I bought the condo it came with. It's awful, and I'm ready to toss it on the street.

After 18 months this fridge started leaking water into the veggies drawers and freezing water under the veggie drawers. This should be a recalled item.It requires a service call and repair that is costly. This is unacceptable for a $1400. refrigerator.Samsung should pay for these repairs. If you like this fridge you better buy an extended warrenty, it will go bad.

This really works. We had really strong food smells in our fridge (for example, putting anything meaty or garlicky in it would result in a blast of unpleasant odor when we opened the door) that 5 boxes of baking soda and any number of other purported odor absorbers could not touch. This little box got rid of all the smells overnight, and has kept them away for months.Highly recommend!

My refrigerator routinely emanated terrible smells before I purchased this product.Glad that I did, because now it rarely smells at all. This deodorizer did the job, within a few hours.Plus it arrived fast.Very satisfied.

I had a smelly refrigerator that came with the apartment I am renting, so other tenants have used it.It smelled like fish, ammonia, and other horrible smells despite how many times I cleaned it or attempted to deodorize it with baking soda.Everything I put in that thing had this distinct, pungent odor when I pulled it out after awhile. The odor particularly leeched into plastic bags and containers and coffee grinds. It reeked!

While the odor didn't make my food taste bad, whenever I pulled out something I had to hold my breath to let the smell dissipate so I wouldn't loose my appetite!Even then, the odor still lingered and was still detectable. It was that bad.The odor was in the freezer too, and it made my ice have a distinct, horrible taste.I had to drink lukewarm tap water and anything in a sealed container in the refrigerator, because the odor would dissipate into open containers of liquids and spoil their taste. So, I had no ice for quite some time except if I bought a bag at the store!

I had originally heard about putting newspaper into a refrigerator because the ink contained absorbing carbon and the paper itself absorbs odor rather well, too.I did that and noticed a difference after a few hours.I then researched better options and found that activated charcoal is more effective.I looked on Amazon and found these Whirlpool activated charcoal boxes specifically designed for problems like mine.I got the box for the refrigerator and the one for the freezer.I highly recommend you do that, because air mixes into both compartments of the refrigerator.

At first I didn't notice much of a difference, but it was slightly better after the first night.I followed the directions of the freezer absorber box and changed out the ice every day. That helped, but what really helped was throwing away my old ice cube trays after a few weeks when the overall smell had dissipated, because I noticed the plastic tray itself had absorbed too much of that horrible smell.I got new trays and put them in after about 3 weeks of having both absorber boxes in the refrigerator.

It worked like a charm, and I now have a nearly odor free refrigerator! It doesn't smell like it used to at all, but it may have some more to go.It was really smelly. However, I can now put open liquids in both freezer and refrigerator compartments and they do not taste bad at all! It's amazing! If you have a stubborn odor in your refrigerator, get both the ice cube and refrigerator odor absorbers! You'll be amazed at how well they work, and I suggest throwing away your old ice cube trays because these odor absorbers cannot seem to get odors out of the trays.I highly recommend these! You will not regret this purchase!

Evaporator Motor for Frigidaire 5304445861, 240369701, 5303918549

Evaporator Motor for Frigidaire 5304445861, 240369701, 5303918549
  • Replaces part numbers:5304445861, 240369701

Our fridge stopped cooling on the top portion of the freezer side and the fridge side stopped completely. The bottom of the freezer side was still cold though.I did a little research on our fridge model and, given the symptoms and the models history, I was pretty sure that the evaporator motor was the problem.I ordered it while at work without taking the old fan out of fridge (a little risky if I was wrong.)

The new fan motor arrived "next day" which was excellent. For the past couple days we were keeping our refrigerated items in a cooler which is a pain. When you pull the milk out and everything collapses into its spot you spend several minutes just trying to put the milk back in so we did NOT want to wait to get the fridge fixed.

I had to remove about 16 screws out of the sides and back of the freezer (including removing the ice-maker which only had two screws holding it on.)That revealed the fan which was indeed not working. Here is where I had the most difficulty. There are three wires on the unit. One was the ground wire which was easy to pull off, but the disconnects for the other two wires were encased in a U shaped plastic piece.Pulling the plastic piece ended up ripping the disconnects off the old fan motor leaving them still stuck in the plastic U.

It took me several minutes to get the old parts out.I had to push the wires through the plastic U so the connectors were completely exposed, then discovered I had to use something with a sharp point and press through a tiny hole in the middle of the connector while pulling them apart before they would release. That little hole actually locks the pieces together with a little flap of metal. They should have put holes in the plastic U to make the job MUCH easier and to prevent damage to the motor connectors.

The new motor came with new male ends and some heat shrink tubing but I did not need either. The old connectors were still good.I had to pull the wires back into the plastic U and reconnect them. One caution, I had to bend the little locking flap back in on one connector before it would lock onto the new fan.Do yourself a favor and get it locked on BEFORE pulling the wires back into the U (assuming your fridge is the same as my Frigidaire). If you don't do that, you risk having a loose wire that may arc and go bad or you may be pulling the connector back off (like me) to fix the little flap, risking damage to your new motor.

The final problem I had was that there was a lot of "snow" on the top of the coils.I used a heat gun to melt the stuff from the top but I could not see the bottom of the coils because I saw no need to take that extra panel off.Big mistake. All it did was cause the snow to melt from the top, run down a ways and form a BLOCK of ICE further down.I started the freezer up without checking and the next day I was removing that "extra panel" because no air could get through the ice.It took me a few hours to melt all the ice off this time plus an extra day having to use the cooler.

Happily it is now running great!I hope this helps someone else do the job better/easier.It is an easy job to do if you watch for those pitfalls and it will save you a ton of money over paying a professional.

I have never worked on a fridge prior to today.

After doing some research on why my fridge wasn't getting cold I unplugged the fridge, removed the back panel inside the freezer and removed the shelves and brackets to access the old fan. As i suspected from my research the fan had burned out which seems to be a common occurrence. I ordered this replacement evaporator motor on Amazon for a 5 year old Frigidaire Model # FRS26LF7DSB. The price ($26.00) was less than half of what it would have cost ($60.00) on other "replacement parts" websites. I ordered the item on a Monday at 4:55 PM and had it sent overnight for an extra $20 = total of $46.00. The part arrived by 3PM on Tuesday and it took no more than 15 minutes to install. The old motor had wire connectors that could be pulled off. Once this was completed I removed the fan blade and the old motor from the motor housing and inserted the new motor and attached the fan blade. Total time thus far under 5 minutes. The new motor has the same wire connectors as the old one so I just reconnected the wires and put the housing back in the freezer and gave her a try. As soon as I plugged in the refrigerator the motor/fan came on right away. I then unplugged the fridge. Reattached the back panel and shelving brackets/shelves and was done. Total time was under 15 minutes.

If you have the same problem it is an easy and inexpensive fix.

I've never replaced an evaporator motor before, but was very pleased to find the part I needed available for Prime shipping, and with a corroborating reviewer who stated that this was great because it had all the necessary connectors to just snap in the new motor.Well, not so about the one I received. It in fact came with no wires at all (though it did come with something which might be splicing caps, though I truly don't know what they are).I cannot even test it to see if it works.

In fairness -it is exactly as pictured, with no wires attached, just not as another reviewer described. It is totally useless to me.

Product showed up on time. This motor matched my fridge exactly and I could just un plug the bad motor and plug this one in.I purchased a replacement motor from a local dealer but to install it, I would have to splice wires on the connector side and on the motor side. This eliminated all if that.

I installed this n about 10 minutes and it has been working flawlessly for a month.I hope it will be at least 10 years before I need another.

This is my second time replacing this motor hopefully this one will last longer than the last one I purchased (lasted 13 months).

This is a different make than the previous fan I purchased so we will see. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I am gun shy after the last replacement motor I purchased.

It is plug and play and extremely easy to change.

Water Sentinel WSW-2 Replacement Refrigerator Ice and Water Filter, 4-Pack

Water Sentinel WSW-2 Replacement Refrigerator Ice and Water Filter, 4-Pack
  • This is a package of FOUR brand new, factory sealedRefrigerator Ice and Water Filters
  • This Water Filter mounts in the lower grille base of many side-by-side refrigerator/freezers.

Description leads one to believe these are higher-end filters and they're not. These are about $22.50 ea when you buy the 4. You can buy a single one here on Amazon at $16.35. They're sub-par and do not meet standard 53 which is the reduction of Lead, Mercury, Benzene, p-dichlorobenzene,Toxaphene and Carbofuran.

What does tested for standard 42 and 53 mean anyway? It does not say it passed the test. That's like saying we tested chicken for salmonella and not saying whether any was found.

Really disappointed with Amazon for allowing deceptive vendor marketing. I thought I did not have to be a lawyer buy a water filter: "Whirlpool Refrigerator Filter" is not a "Whirlpool Filter". Yeah, I know my fault but, they should say "Water Sentinel Filter for Whirlpool refrigerator" if they want my business. I guess they're counting on people not having enough time to read the lat detail and spend two hours before ordering a water filter and then, not sending the items back cause it takes even more time.Well, these are going back and Amazon will be getting less of my money and business going forward.

This is health related item but I guess the mighty dollar comes first.

I'm a big Amazon fan but lately, some of the vendors they have are making me think twice before I blindly order from Amazon with a few clicks on my cell phone like I normally do. Losing faith in Amazon fast.

Kitchenaid KBCS24RSBS Freestanding or Built-In Architect Series II

Kitchenaid KBCS24RSBS Freestanding or Built-In Architect Series II
  • Offers 3 zone chilling for personalized use
  • Contemporary design flatters decor
  • Removable racks provide custom storage options
  • Capable of storing up to 22 bottles of wine
  • Adjustable thermostat allows for complete temperature control

First, this has been a great addition to our kitchen/bar area. The kids love the easy access and my wife and I use it nearly every day as we store coffee creamer and other 'morning beverages'. She loves the separate wine storage areas, which do work great for parties.

The unit looks excellent installed, and the two pull-out shelves shown in the pictures are stain-grade wood. I haven't stained mine to match our cabinetry yet, but it is on my to-do list! Using the fridge is as easy as setting the temperature dial, deciding what units you want the temperature displayed in (centigrade or fahrenheit) and loading it up.

So far the unit has kept temperatures right at the design spec at maximum cool. The cold section remains 37 (98% of the time), the white wine drawer (there's only one of these) stays at 48, and the red wine section which is one pull out shelf and one crappy wire shelf at the bottom that comes out but not easily stays a nice 57 degrees. I have not put in my own thermometer to check the accuracy of the displayed temperatures, but by going on feel alone the wines and beverages are at the correct temperatures.

The bottom shelf design is what keeps me from giving this unit 5 stars. It would have been so nice had Kitchenaid designed the fridge so that the bottom shelf pulled out like the two wood-front shelves shown in the picture. The two wood shelves slide out nicely on rails. The bottom shelf rests on the bottom of the unit, has rubber pieces on the sides, and is a pain in the rear end to pull out when loaded with wine bottles. There are two 'stops' on each side of the bottom that have to be overcome to get the shelf out far enough to read the bottle and/or get the wine out easily. Bad design, and really one of only two things I can find fault with.

The second issue, which may or may not be by design, is that the temperature will rise on it's own (without using the fridge or adding room temperature beverages to it) to approximately 43 degrees in the cold section. It does this periodically almost as if it's a normal cycle to remove moisture. It doesn't stay at this temperature for very long, but it does do this on a somewhat regular basis. That being said, 98% of the time the cold section is 37 degrees plus 1 or 2 degrees occasionally.

When loading the unit with canned drinks, wines or other beverages after a store run, it really doesn't take very long to cool things back down. The temperature will noticeably rise for a short time with the warmer items, but not for long.

As I stated above, we're going on almost two years, and the fridge has been a wonderful, useful addition. I waffled back and forth about getting a wine refrigerator or beverage center, and I'm very glad we went with the beverage center option.

If it keeps going another year or more without needing repairs I'll be happy. I have read a lot of negative reviews on wine refrigerators. Reliability does seem to be an issue, even with some Kitchenaid models. However, not even Viking or $3000 brands are without their share of negative reviews. Crossing my fingers that we'll get many more years use out of this great little unit.

I'd recommend this to anyone refinishing a kitchen or simply adding an area for a bar. I would not use this outside even under a covered porch. It's simply not designed to withstand the elements in that way.

Good luck in your search, and if it ends here I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Update: December 3, 2012. The Beverage center is still performing well. The temperature of the cold section stays between 37 and 39 most of the time, but still rises to 41 for a short time every few days. Still pleased with the purchase, and I'd still buy it again.
