HAIER HNSE032 3.2 CUBIC-FT REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER (WHITE)

HAIER HNSE032 3.2 CUBIC-FT REFRIGERATOR/FREEZERLove the overall product, just hate that the plastic shelf for the gallon door bin broke within first week of purchase. It got stuck and when we opened door, it broke off. It's $17+ to buy replacement part, so we just don't use bottom half of door. Really like the top half of door that holds 8 drink cans! Maybe they should have done away with bottom shelf and made entire door can holder. We got it on sale for a little over $100 at Walmart last year, so it's definitely worth that price. I'm not sure I'd pay much more than that though.

I purchased this refrigerator as a birthday present for my husband, not *quite* sure if it was something he'd like.Well, as it turns out he loves it, despite a few limitations.

The unit came delivered in perfect condition.The only assembly that was needed was to insert the shelves and install the door handles.The instructions say to let the unit sit for 24 hours before plugging it in, but of course, we unpacked it and plugged it in before we saw the instructions.I unplugged it as soon as I ready that (so after maybe 20 minutes) and then plugged it in again the next day.It was fine, and it got up to temperature very fast.I can't remember how fast, but fast.

The unit is very quite.We have it in a back bedroom/play room, and you can sleep there without being bothered by the fridge.

Ok, so the weaknesses.We drink a lot of champagne, and the unit does not accommodate champagne bottles well.The shelves themselves are not metal and seem a little light for the $500-ish price tag, but they've been fine so far.Since the unit was not designed for champagne, it doesn't get super-cold, but cold enough for storage (46 degrees, I think).We have beer and red wine in the other side, I think at 50-something degrees.

I did a fair amount of research on wine refrigerators before I bought this one.So far, I'm happy with my purchase (it's been about a month).We'll see how I feel a year from now.

I bought this for office wine storage (yes, I work in a strange office).Assembly was straightforward once I figured out where they had stored the screw-in front feet.(They're tucked in a corner in the styrofoam).

I wasn't pleased that the instructions called for a few hours of settling before powering it on, but I've had another wine fridge die on me within days of arrival (not this manufacturer or model), so I let it settle.

Settings are straightforward and it maintains the target temperature with almost no noise.

On the downside, the shelves have these metal fronts on them (You can see them in the pictures.The shelves are just wire frame, but there's a front piece).You can't insert or remove even a standard bottle without sliding the shelf out.It's a minor nit, but my home fridge doesn't have this problem, so it bothers me a bit.

We were a little worried when the box showed up.The exterior of the box was bashed in.The shippers clearly gave this item a "fun" ride.Amazon or the manufacturer expected that, though, I guess.It was double boxed, and the inside box (and the product) were fine.

I would buy this item again.

One good looking wine chiller. Absolutely love the steel capped racking.It can store up to 32 bottles evenly with 16 bottles in the right zone and 16 bottles in the left zone. This is a compressor free vibration-free thermoelectric powered cooling type unit. My personal preference given the absence of vibration which can wreak havoc on older wines with softer corks. It also minimizes the drying effect of compressor coolers.The shelves can be taken out so I can put in bottles of varying sizes, but it still looks the best with all the racks installed.

Solidly-built and beautifully designed, I'm surprised it doesn't retail for twice the price. That's why I love shopping on here! It keep temps very accurately and the dual-zones are a real must especially when the hubby likes sangioveses to my reislings.

It's a good size chiller for most needs and complements a contemporary setting perfectly. Thanks Amazon!

I desperately wanted a dual-zone that would fit under the breakfast counter. I didn't need a built-in so this Whynter wine chiller was almost exactly what I had in mind.I'm smitten by the looks/pricing of this unit. Very cool. Nicely double packed for shipping and arrived quickly too.

I had a power outage and didn't realize the temperatures default back to the factory setting, I thought it was faulty but customer service did a great job explaining this to me. It's definitely a keeper.

This 32 bottle wine cooler looks amazing.When it is completely filled, it just looks impressive and very swanky.Luxurious is probably the first word that I would use to describe this Whynter wine cooler.

The dual-zones are exactly what I was looking for to store white and red wines.32 bottles are for standard bottles, if you need to fit large champagnes bottles, you will obviouslyneed to remove a shelf or two as required. Not sure what the buzz is over thermoelectric units.

After a couple of weeks of use I can't tell if it's any better than your compressor based.Either way it's proven to be good buy.It's currently used as a free-standing unit right in the dining room.

Samsung RF4287HARS 28 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - Energy Star

Samsung RF4287HARS 28 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - Energy StarThis refrigerator has it all: plenty of storage, excellent lighting, quick chilling, and nice design. Yes, the ice clunks loudly when "ejected" to the dispenser, but not a big deal for us as we don't use much ice and only turn on the maker when we need more ice. We have not had ice come flying out or the water spray. The fridge runs quietly and I don't find it difficult to clean the exterior. There are only 2 adults in the household and we tend not to leave many fingerprints on the doors.

Overall: I recommend this refrigerator.

1.7 Cubic-ft Refrigerator/Freezer (Black) - HAIER

1.7 Cubic-ft Refrigerator/Freezer - HAIERTHIS IS AN AMAZING MINI FRIDGE. I OWNED A BLACK AND DECKER BEFORE AND IT GOT ITEMS KIND OF COOL, BUT THIS MINI FRIDGE ACTUALLY FREEZES ICE OR WHATEVER YOU PUT IN THE FREEZER PART AS GOOD AS A LARGER UNIT WOULD. THE OTHER PARTS OF THE REFRIGERATOR GET EXTREMELY COLD. THE THERMOSTAT GOES ALL THE WAY TO 7 WHICH IS GREAT TO CONTROL THE TEMPERATURE OF WHAT YOU HAVE. I KEEP PROTEIN SHAKES, WATER, CRANBERRY JUICE AND SANDWICHES IN MINE AT WORK. I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS BRAND, BUT THE PRICE WAS RIGHT AFTER DOING COMPARISONS ON DIFFERENT SITES. THIS IS DEFINITELY THE BEST THEIR IS AND YOU GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH FOR SURE!!

I'm an OTR trucker & this Fridge was tailor made for us guys. I have estimated I have saved many times the cost of this fridge over the 5 years I have owned it. Along with a small microwaveGE JES735WJ .7 Cu. Ft. Capacity Countertop Microwave Oven& a 12V/110 inverterCobra CPI1550 Dual Outlet AC/DC Power InverterI'm not a slave to overpriced truckstops. I can carry along a weeks supply of groceries(Leftovers, TV dinners, Lunch meats & cheeses etc.) along with all the beverages I need. Restocking is a matter of stopping at any large supermarket.Don't let the large size intimidate you as you rareley have to take this out of your vehicle......just take the removable wire basket(included) out, load & put back in the cooler & your good to go. The fridge fully loaded weighs upwards of 100lbs with 50 of that for the groceries. When I get ready to leave I just load the basket, take it to the truck & drop it in.

Unlike the cheap Thermo-electrics the Engels has a compressor & cools or freezes to whatever temp you set it., one or the other but not both, either a fridge or freezer & its not dependant on ambient temp.

A side benefit; unlike built in fridges this one goes with you whether your switching trucks or going on vacation to the lake(works on 110 as well as 12V so you have a spare fridge/freezer at the cabin)If you plan on an extended stay on the lake this will work in you boat as long as you have a 12V plug in.

All in all a great little cooler.Very rugged & very reliable

Pros

1.dependable

2.quiet

3.energy efficient

4.portability

5.built like a tank,steel housing

Cons

1.cost

2.bulky

If this one ever quits I will buy another.

Buy Engel MT27F-U1 AC/DC Fridge Freezer Now

This freezer is based on the Sawafuji "swing" compressor. Unlike the fairly similar and far less costly EdgeStar FP430 which uses a Danfoss compressor, the Engel MT45F is specifically designed to be operated in a moving vehicle, and can be run while at an angle of up to 30 degrees. It pulls a maximum of 2.5 paltry amps at 12 volts DC (the Edgestar draws 2.75 amps max, but can get food a little colder). It has a steel exterior, while the similar but less expensive ARB Fridge Freezer, which also uses the swing compressor, has a tough plastic housing, which might be a better choice for boaters.

The Engel is built like a tank, and comes with a 2-year factory warranty. I've had mine running while driving over thousands of miles of rutted dirt and gravel roads, and it works as well as the day it was new.

My biggest beefs with the Engel are: the price, which is close to twice that of the comparable Edgestar and more than the ARB; the storage capacity, which is pretty small; and the primitive controls--no temperature readout, and only a single dial marked 1 5. A more minor gripe is that the compressor hum, while not terribly loud, does seem to carry--you'll know when the Engel is running. Also, it is heavy. Those big steel handles are there for a reason (they also make good tie-down points).

I've been an avid camper for more than three decades and got into off-road exploring about 18 months ago with the purchase of a new truck. We often spend two and three nights and days out in the desert of Southern California trekking about. In the summer we have problems maintaining our food at safe chill levels and our drinks at the preferred temperature.

I have an electric cooler which does only a fair to poor job of keeping the internal temperature 20-30 degrees cooler than the 100 degree external temperature. Food will spoil quickly at these temperatures. I've tried three different coolers of increasingly larger sizes stocked with more and more ice. I ended up with two coolers stuff at about 50% ice and 50% food or drink.

With the outside temperature of 68 degrees I read the following temperatures inside the empty Engel 45:

1 = 39 degrees

2 = 25 degrees

3 = 20 degrees

4 = 14 degrees

5 = 1.9 degrees

The basket pulls out so that you can fill it in the kitchen and haul the food out to the waiting freezer. This helps make moving the already freezer easier.

I do a lot of off-road camping (research). I used a Dometic absorption cooled refrigerator for the past few years, which ran on 110 / 12VDC / Propane. The challenge I've had with the Dometic is it couldn't keep temperature in the desert heat. Other problems were the Dometic had to be out of the wind else the flame blew out and absorption systems need to be absolutely level something difficult to achieve when off-road. After a 10 day trip where some of the food spoiled in the Dometic despite my best efforts, I made the decision to look for a more capable refrigerator. After considerable research, I settled on the Engle MT45.

What a difference! The MT45 easily maintains temperature in the desert heat and will quickly chill water bottles and drinks added in something the Dometic couldn't do. It is surprisingly efficient. While the unit is rated at 2.5 amps, that's it's maximum draw at start-up when cooling down. My experience is that it draws on average around 1.1 amps (cycling on and off) when it is up to temperature. My vehicle has an auxiliary battery which is recharged by a 110 W solar panel when on location. With the Engle drawing approximately 30 W maximum, the setup is sufficient to keep the MT45 running indefinitely without the need to start the vehicle to recharge the AUX battery. With a 105 AH AGM battery, I can run the Engle for two days without recharging the battery, figuring a 50% max discharge of the battery and no sun to supply the solar panel. That's pretty good efficiency. The MT45 can operate at an angle of up to 30 deg. No more having to shove shims and rocks under the fridge to get it level like I had to do with the Dometic.

While the MT45 doesn't have a temperature read out I found that a wireless thermometer works just fine and is a small price to pay to be able to see the internal temperature up front in the drivers seat (or trailer). Keeping the MT45 dial at a little above 1.5, the fridge maintains temperature at 38 deg. F. The dial ranges from zero to 5. At 4 or 5 the MT45 can keep items frozen solid.

I really like the basket arrangement. It makes it easy to see and get at items. It also allows me to carry the refrigerator to the Land Rover empty then carry the food and drop it into the Fridge, lessening the weight I need to carry. The old Dometic had to be filled then carried, often very heavy to lift. So while some complain about the weight of the MT45, remember that you don't have to lift it with the food in it. Another benefit that I really like is I can pack the food in the Engle basket and store it in my home refrigerator to keep it cool until I'm ready to transfer the food to the MT45 before heading out.

The MT45 is built tough with solid steel construction, which adds to the weight. I'd rather have a durable unit than one that can't take the abuse. I'm miles from civilization and I need reliability.

I read a few comments about the vibration. While I don't discount that the individuals may have gotten a particularly noisy unit, a hum is characteristic of the Engle "swing" motor compressor. The compressor has only one moving part, making it far more reliable and efficient than other designs. My MT45 does have a hum when running but it doesn't bother me. It's really not all that noticeable. It is certainly louder than my previous Dometic, which made no noise at all but, after all, it is a compressor design, which is far more capable than the absorption design of my former Dometic. It's going to make some noise. I'm happy to have cold drinks and food that isn't spoiled. That's the whole point in my estimation.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the Engle MT45. I wish I had purchased it years ago and avoided all of the challenges I've faced trying to keep perishables from perishing when out at research locations in the desert Southwest.

Right out of the box it had a constant hum whenever switched on.It also had a lot of vibration.Even when placed on a pad or a carpeted surface, it would still make a constant sound.Could be heard when I had it in the tailgate of my SUV and I was driving!

For several weeks I've been 'working' with Engel on resolving this.They said it's not uncommon.They believe it's caused by something in the compressor mounting shifting during transit. They first had me 'bang' it on each of it's sides while it was running.Then they had me open it up!...and directly hit the compressor with a rubber mallet, again trying it on each side (orientation) and with it running.

Nothing has made a difference.Each time I've spoken to them I've asked for return information so I can send it to them to be replaced or repaired (though I'd prefer a brand new unit just replaced).I think they're being cheap as they insist each time that they have something new to try that'll be easy.All I've accomplished is getting scuff marks on the outside of my unit as well as paint chipped on the compressor housing.

This is not a $20 item! And yet they treat their customers as it was.I would not recommend anyone to buy one of these.This is not a unique occurrence.I know this because Engel told me this!Also, if it was a rare occurrence, they wouldn't hesitate to have me ship it to them for repair.They obviously have a problem and are trying to resolve it as cheaply as they can and/or get people to give up on their grievance.

Whirlpool 26.4 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator - GSS26C4XXY

Whirlpool 26.4 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator - GSS26C4XXY**DO NOT BUY** FACTORY DESIGN DEFECT.Yes it's true, in 2010 they cannot design a refrigerator that functions properly.The same cold air that freezes the water tray for cubes, ALSO freezes the water line for the cubes!On top of that, the so called "fix" doesn't work either!Other than that, it's seems to be a pretty nice unit...unless you care about having ice.LED lighting sure is sexy though.Ours stopped working almost immediately.It also had another issue with the ice maker.The optical interrupter plastic slide switch had a mind of it's own.Whenever you closed the door, it would slide into the OFF position!I recall the words of the repairman upon seeing this as he shook his head, "bad design".Well at least if they're going to fail, they might as well from the get go instead of AFTER the "trial" period.Luckily we had ours taken back within our 14 day "extended" trial.I say that because once I knew we had problems that had to be repaired and would take a couple weeks to get parts in, I went to HHG and informed them of the situation and they agreed to extend the trial period till "after" repairs.If they would have said no, I was going to tell them to come pick it up immediately. Everyone should remember to do this when this situation arises.Actually I thought most trial periods were a standard 30 days?Just goes to show how they continue to squeeze for every advantage.What's really disgusting is that these units are still being offered to the public, when they are obviously defective.I imagine Whirlpool is implementing some damage control now.I understand the complexities of product design having worked in engineering. MEMO to Whirlpool: Before you release into the wild, test and VALIDATE your product better.That said, my other two kitchen appliances are Whirlpool.Please don't ruin your good name like Maytag did.

By the way, we got the similar Whirlpool Model WSF26D4EXY with the conventional unit ice maker as a replacement...fingers crossed.

I would have to agree with the other reviews.Bought this (not cheap) refrigerator and the ice maker has broken twice on it.Also, one of the LED lights went out and the tech keeps ordering the incorrect part for it (no fault of his though the description for the part makes no sense)The tech finally ordered a whole new ice maker but it is on back order until Dec 10 so we will be without ice until then.We had it a week and the ice maker stopped, fixed and worked again for a couple days and broke again.NOT HAPPY.Also got it from HHGregg which I will go pay a visit to and tell them they can have it back.This is crazy.You pay good money for something and it doesnt work.Wish I had read these other reviews prior to the purchase.Learned my lesson.

Had refrig installed 9/12/10. It made 1/2 bucket of ice and has not worked since. I am currently waiting for a service call between 10-1 today. After reading previous review I am not thrilled.

10/5/10 First service guy said that freezer was not cold enough and we should set temp to -2. Not happening. Pretty sure water freezes at 32. Anyway that guy left and did nothing. Ice worked for a few days and stopped working again. Had another service call today. This guy said the water in the door is freezing. He just fixed this issue on a similar model 2 weeks ago. Need to order part and call for appt once part comes in. BTW I was on hold 45 on Monday to get service call appt. He thawed out the water line so I could have ice today but it will freeze up in a day or two. I asked Whirlpool for a new refrigerator and they said "No". My warranty says if it can be repaired then that is what we must do.

Be careful of this model with ice in door. It is a new model and it seems to have a defect. Buyer Beware!

Update 7/13/11.Yes, they did fix the ice maker problem and everything worked well for several months. Then all of a sudden the whole thing started leaking water. I didn't know where it was coming from but it kept accumulating in front of the fridge. I finally cut off the water line to it and waited for the repair day.Sure enough, some little part had cracked and within a few mintues all was working fine again. I continue to like the appliance except for the problems. I also don't like having to wait the several days each time for the scheduled repair day.

I'm hoping that in a couple of months I can change my rating to five stars.I usually don't purchase items that haven't been reviewed but this refrigerator was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted the ice storage to be in the door but didn't want to have to remove the whole thing to access ice by hand and without using the dispenser. I bought it ag HHGregg for a good price and it was delivered the following day. Installation was not a problem. It made ice and water without a problem. But, a week later it stopped making ice. Because of the long weekend I had to wait three days to reach Whirlpool and then another two days for the service appointment. Well, that was today and I was told it needed a part but because the refrigerator was so new the part had to be ordered. I now have another service appointment for next week to have it fixed. Other than the ice maker problem, it's a great refrigerator with lots of space. My old top freezer was always jammed full and now I have more freezer space than I know what to do with.

Update on 9/20/10: Repair person came back to install parts and assured me it would work. Nope. Waited 24 hours to see if it made ice with no luck. So, now waiting yet another week for my third service call. Will have had the refrigerator for 4 weeks with the ice maker only working 1 week! Like the fridge other than the ice maker. Tons of space especially for the bag of ice I had to buy.

I was concerned about the ice maker in this fridge after reading all the reviews. After some encouraging reviews on other site, we decided to give it a try. The water pipe freezing issue has been resolved in 2011 models which adds a heater around the water pipe in the door. The fridge makes enough ice for normal use, we have never ran out of ice in two months. We make smoothies every day and use ice in our water, family of 4. The ice storage is not enough for the parties but that's true for any in-door ice maker.

All other things in this fridge works perfect. Spacious energy efficient design with nice decor.
