34 Bottle Silhouette Select Built-In Wine Cooler

34 Bottle Silhouette Select Built-In Wine Cooler
  • Built-in wide cellar with 34 bottle capacity
  • All black interior emulates the traditional wine cellar
  • The temperature range can be set between 39F-64F (4C-18C)
  • Frost free, fan forced cooling system
  • White LED track lighting beautifully illuminates the interior

I read reviews on this wine cooler from several sites and some mentioned noise was a problem.I have not found this to be an issue. It cooled down immediately and does not seem to run that often.Definitely not as noisy as my side by side Kenmore fridge directly across from it.

Size and reversible doors were the reason I selected this fridge and it definitely fit those criteria on arrival.

I have only it had it for a week or two, but so far, my only criticism would be that the pull out drawers don't seem very sturdy, however for the price I can't complain. The storage design for the maximum bottles is ingenious.

Wish my space would have allowed for a dual zone model, but this definitely cools the whites just fine.

Pros:

Looks great. Interior lighting is well done. Reversible door was a must for me. Seems sturdy with a nice solid handle.

Cons:

Very noisy much louder than my refrigerator which is right next to it.I don't recommend it if you have a "great room" like we do.It echos off the wood floors and can hear it upstairs even! The other thing it is doing is some strange cycling every few seconds, not the full compressor coming on but the fan or something like that.Since it was purchased as part of a remodel and the installation was delayed beyond when I could return, I'm totally stuck with it which is a bummer.

This Maytag Maxima 6000 series washing machine is one incredible piece of hardware. Our clothes have never been cleaner and more wrinkle free.

Our 12 year old Maytag Neptune stacked washer / dryer died an ugly death two weeks ago. The washing machine stopped spinning, it could have been a control board, or a wax motor; but no it turned out to be the bearings. Why did I stick with Maytag on the replacement? 12 years, two service visits, and a machine that worked flawlessly for a first generation stacker front loader. I was pleased with the service.

The key points about this machine it is quiet (not dead silent, but it makes a good solid big heavy motor sounds), it has some sweet features, it looks cool, and it has a big wash drum. Until we got it home, I had no idea it washed clothes this well.

The following review was originally posted for the white version of this washing machine. There is no difference between these washers except for the exterior color.

There's two models in this Maytag Maxima line the 6000 and the 7000 series. The 7000 adds a few cycles, the steam power wash, a separate dispenser for OXI clean products, and an LED light inside the drum. At first I was kind of disappointed I didn't buy the 7000, hey I'm a guy and I love extra functions and the light inside the drum just seems so darn cool. Now that we have this 6000 model, I'm perfectly happy with the choice. There's about a $200 difference between the models. It's not clear how often we would use the steam (frankly, probably never). The light is way fun the first few days of playing with the machine, but long term, not so useful. Besides, the door is so huge and with the smoked glass, I can still see inside the machine. OXI clean dispenser well that would never be used, and the 6000 instructions describe how to mix it with the regular detergent.

The washing machine requires at least a 15Amp 110V circuit, cold and hot water, and a waste line. It's possible everybody knows this, or this is standard for a washing machine. Well for me this was a huge horrible surprise; our Neptune stacker used one 220V connection. I have to run a new 110V line to power this machine.

This machine looks pretty darn intimidating at first glance. The instruction manual is about twenty pages and is also somewhat intimidating. But never fear it is really super simple to operate. The big silver dial in the center, turn it to select the wash cycle. The black panel on the right displays approximately how soon the cycle will finish (sorry, it's a countdown timer). The three buttons at the bottom of the panel are used to over ride the wash / rinse temperature, the amount of wash time, and the spin speed. The buttons all the way to the right control convenience settings like tone at end of cycle, hold clothes, maximum extract, and extra rinses. One other minor control on the black panel this washer can delay start the cycle. There are two very simple + and buttons on that panel that set how many hours delay time.

On the far left is the detergent drawer. I love this part of the machine no more tossing the detergent in the bottom of the drum or going after hidden bleach or fabric softener reservoirs. Slide open the drawer on the left side to add the detergent. There is a setting for powder or liquid detergent. Basically the little switch moves a plastic stop up for powder (allowing freer flow of water to add detergent during the fill cycle) or down for liquid (restricting the flow so the liquid won't immediately flow out and assuring the liquid gets mixed properly with the water). To the right are fabric softener and bleach reservoirs. The machine is super smart, at the right moment during the wash and rinse cycles it forces water through the correct reservoir to deliver the product. The drawer can be removed easily for washing (at some point mildew could grow in the softener side a huge problem in our old Maytag). It is not dishwasher safe.

How to use this beauty? Load the clothes. Select the cycle and adjust options (when the silver dial is turned the machine automatically powers up, no need to monkey with the power button). Add detergent. Close the drawer, and press the start button. The count down timer gives an estimate for how soon the load will be finished. The instruction are specific that this is an estimate the cycle could take more time due to unbalanced loads or too much foam from the detergent.

There is a red Add Clothes illuminated on the panel when there is still time to press the play button to pause the machine and toss in a few forgotten items.

There are enough cycles on this machine to make everybody happy. Two pages of the instruction manual are devoted to the finer points of each cycle, and how full the drum should be. There are a few highlights in the world of cycles. There is a power clean cycle, which actually heats the water of the final rinse enough to meet NSF standards for killing bacteria and allergens. There is a swimsuit cycle that simply rinses and spins the load, in addition to a spin only cycle. The normal cycle is preset to last 56 minutes and does warm wash with warm rinse. The hold setting is interesting. If this option is selected, when the cycle is finished, the machine tumbles the clothes frequently, and blows air into the drum to keep clothes from wrinkling.

Fabric softener isn't added until the very last rinse, no matter which cycle or extra rinse was selected. Bleach is added at the first rinse.

There is some kind of tie in with Affresh cleaner; the machine has a clean Affresh cycle. After a certain number of cycles, a clean light will illuminate. At this time the machine is asking for a clean cycle a 45 minute cycle where no clothes can be in the machine and add either an Affresh tablet or bleach to the bleach dispenser. I understand there were so many complaints of mildew growing in these front-loading washers; Maytag has decided to take a proactive approach to eliminating the problem. I've used Affresh in our old machine and it does work well. At about $8 per three tablets, it's not a horribly expensive prophylactic.

Whirlpool W10135699 Affresh High Efficiency Washer Cleaner, 3-Tablets

Maytag does say to use HE (High Efficiency) detergent. There is some truth to foam causing early failure of the drum bearings regular detergent foams a lot more than HE and causes significant drag on the drum motor and bearing during the spin cycle. There is also some leaning toward powders over liquid detergent. If you love liquid, just pay attention to the detergent drawer to be certain no soap residue builds up, (it's easy enough to remove and wash).

The drum is beautiful (yes I love mechanical things) stainless steel. There are no big bumps in the drum to hold socks or other clothes up at the top of the drum. The drum is huge. A set of queen sheets and pillowcases only fill the thing halfway (that used to almost fill the old Neptune).

This is a flexible machine for installation. Since all the controls are on the front panel, there is a ton of ways to install this machine. Standing all by itself, the top is a great place to sort clothes or fold after they are dried. If the 6000 series dryer is used side by side, the two machines make for a great space to work. There is also an option to place a shelf over the top of the two machines. The machine can be installed under a counter just like a dishwasher. There is a stacking kit to put the dryer on top (when the dryer arrives, that's the configuration we are using). There are specifications for putting this in a closed closet (upper and lower vents are required in the door).

There are three colors white, red, and dark gray / silver. I went with basic white, it was available. The red is actually pretty darn cool looking; it is a nice deep red, and honestly not far off from Ferrari red. The gray / silver is pleasant.

How long will this machine last? I hope somewhere near what the previous machine did. The machine comes with a one year full parts / labor warranty. There's a five-year warranty on a few of the major parts, including that moist fan thing. And finally ten years on the drum and big stuff. After one year no labor is covered. There is the crime, the parts are expensive, but the labor to install them will probably still be out of sight (read, just replace the thing if the bearings go out). I would guess Consumer Reports has an opinion on this machine, and Maytag in general. It's impossible to tell what Maytag did with the electronics. I hope they learned their lesson with the Neptune series and have built robust controls.

I love this machine. Our clothes are super clean and they come out of the washer well wrung out to shorten the drying cycle. Pictures don't do this justice. It is a very pretty machine. It looks a little like the Jetsons go ahold of it.

I was initially drawn to this machine by it's looks, but bought it for ease of use.Samsung and LG consistently get high marks but in everyday use they drive me nuts. For those not familiar with the Asian design aesthetic, it basically goes like this:More buttons + more blinking lights + more beeping noises = more better.Well, in the words of Stan Marsh, "I thought this was America!"It is, Stan, and this one is actually made in America too.

The controls are simple, just go from left to right.Set the mode, modify the default settings if you want, throw in some bonuses (like extra rinse), and press play.I did not really need to read the instructions to figure it out, and the silly noises can be turned off.Another nice feature is the design of the soap tray. The whole tray gets rinsed, and that prevents old soap/bleach/softener from building up.

A major reason for the increased efficiency of front loaders is the faster spin cycle that extracts more water and shortens the drying time. This one actually spins fast enough to completely dry some items like polyester. While this washer is quiet I can hear it switching cycles, although it makes up for that by not whistling a tune every few minutes like some others. The biggest knock I have is that there is no "quick wash" mode, the closest thing is the "small loads" mode that takes 44 mins.Normal modes take a typical 1 to 2 hours, and the dryer is always left waiting.

If you are buying this as a set like I did, the features of the washer and dryer to not really match up.Unlike the 6000 dryer, this washer DOES NOT have a steam cycle and interior light, you will need to step up to the 7000 for that (you also get more wash modes). Also, unlike the dryer this washer DOES come with all of the required connectors (4' hot and cold water lines, and a drain line).

Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black

Vinotemp VT-15TS 15 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Cooler, Black
  • Touch screen control panel with safety lock function to prevent unwanted temperature changes in the cabinet
  • Temperature range of 39-65-degrees fahrenheit
  • Dual-paned glass door with magnetic seal maintains interior cooler temperature
  • Storage features include slide out metal shelves and bulk storage space
  • For freestanding installation only

I like this wine fridge, so far, though when its compressor runs, it is noisy.I'm hoping it will last longer than my last Vinotemp, which was thermoelectric (unlike this one).

PROS

----

room inside for large, upright, or corked bottles, flexible

well packed for shipment (better than R. Sayre's! -mine shipped from Amazon)

nice looking

door works smoothly

more cooling power

CONS

----

noisy (when the compressor kicks in, it hums)

some vibration from the compressor

wide (I have room for it, but you'd better check the dimensions)

only one temperature zone

I'm adding a special note about the packing because of R. Sayre's bad experience with doors getting ripped off.Mine, shipped from Amazon to here in Hawaii, was protected by styrofoam in an inner box, then that was suspended with foam corner offsets and more styrofoam panels within a larger box.And it arrived undamaged.

My old Vinotemp, Vinotemp VT-12TEDS-2Z Dual Zone Thermoelectric Wine Cooler, 12-Bottle, which broke at 16 months, was so cramped inside that getting a 1.5 liter or a tall Alsace/Mosel bottle into the fridge was difficult, but this model is much roomier inside, and it lets you stand some bottles upright, if you want to.I wouldn't want to put as many as 15 bottles in it, though. Unless you remove both shelves, I don't think you could get in more than 4 overly tall bottles standing up across the front. With the middle shelf removed, but the top shelf kept in and holding 4 standard sized bottles, I can fit 3 1.5 liter bottles standing up in front on the bottom, and additional standard bottles standing up behind them.

This unit replaces a small Avanti thermoelectric cooler, which while quiet, regularly blew its electrolytic capacitors. In comparison, this unit is a little bit of an upgrade, having a better control panel for the temperature. It is a little noisy, but only to be expected.

I tried twice with this order, and Amazon was quick with the replacement. But both coolers were destroyed during shipping. Had it survived shipping, the cooler appeared nice (though not rugged) and looked like it would serve my purposes (I particularly liked the flexible configuration and apparent capacity to hold longer/fatter bottles by standing them up. But there was very little cushioning in the packaging. Consequently the door was shattered / torn off the hinge when it arrived in both orders. Guess I'll look for it in a physical store. I wouldn't ordinarily downgrade for a shipping problem, but unless they change the packaging (or unless UPS handles the box with extraordinary delicacy), I don't think there's a likelihood yours will arrive intact. I order a lot from Amazon, and this is the first time I've run into a problem like this with a product.

We purchased this product to store eggs & possibly other products to sale. We needed a small unit to fit under a table & this was the right size. It has a precise (digital) setting for the temp. & displays currant temp. at all times. We like the blue LED lighting also. It has worked perfect so far.

If this was a bit less noisy, I may consider a 5 stars!

Other than that , it is convenient.... Yes. 15 bottles can get in but I keep the red bull and sodas in the lower levels.

I bought the Danby wine cooler Model DWC508BLS on positive reviews that I had read. Those reviews did not match my experience with this cooler. The cooler looks good in pictures but that is about it. Build quality is not what I expected. The location of the door handle is qirky and requires more effort to open...I suppose the manufacturer did this to allow for hinge change so that the door swing can be changed left or right..I would have prefered extra holes to move the handle. The wire racks are made from thin wire and are poorly supported on ridges molded into the thin plastic interior. The bottom rack sits loosely on the cooler floor and is not retained at all ! I would not recommend storing bottles on the bottom wire rack as attempting to pull out the rack to access a bottle will send bottles crashing to the floor! Bottle shapes vary widley, however even following Danby's shelf loading instructions 50 bottle storage isn't realistic..30 to 35 bottles perhaps. Last, this unit generates a LOT of noise. The compressor is about what I expect for a small refrigeration unit, however there is also a noisey internal fan that runs 15 seconds ON, 10 seconds OFF, then repeats.. 24 hr X 7 ! This fan has become even louder in just the few days the unit has been plugged in. My cooler is installed under-counter between two cabinets in a pantry just off the kitchen and I still need to keep the pantry door closed to block the annoying noise of the cycling fan from entering adjacent rooms. I have a call into Danby customer service to determine if this is a defect or is by design..my bet is that it is by design. I'm also checking the return policy. If I'm stuck with this unit I will likely attempt to access the interior fan and unplug it to cut down on the noise. This Danby replaced an older Haier, the Haier was running like a champ so I gave it to my neighbor.Wish I waited before giving away my Haier...I'll be sure to leave this Danby unit behind for the new homeowner that buys my house !!

Got this to replace an extra dishwasher the previous owners has installed in the kitchen. My father got a stand alone Danny years ago and it works great, so I was familiar with the brand. This model was one of the few I found that for our kitchen's dimensions. So far ( 2 weeks in), its working great. It also looks very high end, with the wood racks and the stainless steel finish. It's actually a lot better than the Viking wine fridge we had in our old house (that one didn't have adjustable temperature control, it was really hard to for the bottles in, and it was probably more expensive!).

One thing to note: this model only allows you to set one temperature (from the photos you might think two, since there are two temps displayed), but that's fine for me since I'm just using it for whites, roses, and champagne.

I use this primarily for making and ripening cheeses. If there's room I store a few bottles of wine. I like it.

Don't believe the digital temperature display, though. I set mine to 53F recently -the on-board thermometer reads between 52-54 always. In reality, it swings between 46 and 58F in 24 minute cycles (my ambient temp is 60-65F. Once I forgot to close the door for hours and it STILL read 54F! But this should be OK for wine, since the average temp is spot on and water's high heat capacity means the liquid's temp shouldn't vary much. It's a bit loud, but it's in the garage, so I don't care.

Very suprised to find this valve made in China! This company claims "genuine Frigidarire product" however the original valve that I removed was made by Invensys and is a product of Mexico. First apperance of the Invensys valve seems to be of much higher quality. Its larger and has threaded water line connectors as opposed to the Chineese version that has push on water connecter. These lines are under pressure and may violate some local building codes because water pressure may force these lines back out. I may have saved $15-$20 for this valve but if known it was of Chineese origin I would have bought the original product made under Figidaire control. I view this as a counterfit product and all products sold on line should be labeled with country of origin.

Unfortunately I received a product that I did not order and did not open it as it was for a spare. When I finally did open it...yep, it was incorrect and it was too late to return.I will be putting in on either amazon or ebay soon

I bought this to replace my original Everpure H104 filter. Unfortunately, this filter was a rather loose/wobbly fit in the collar of the filter system, so I had to return it and buy an Everpure model for a much higher price. Arranging for the return was a simple process and the seller was very responsive.

Aqua-Pure AP510 Under Sink Drinking Water Filter

Aqua-Pure AP510 Under Sink Drinking Water FilterI ate at a sustainable restaurant that didn't serve bottled water, but offered chilled filtered water. It was so delicious that I asked the manager what kind of filter it was and he said a 3M Cuno. Cuno is Aqua Pure, so I decided to buy this filter for under the sink installation. A plumber took less than half an hour to install it (a decent handyman or homeowner could do this, I am just bad at DIY). The water is great. No more bottled water or crappy Brita or Pur filters.
