Sundanzer Solar-Powered Freezer - 8.1 Cubic Ft

Installed this unit about 2 years ago in southern Michigan so it's been through two winters now. My installation is powered by 300 watts of solar panels, which is more than needed but I don't have a good sunny spot in the back yard.Unit is operated at 24 volts using four 6-volt golf cart batteries in series that were purchased from Sams Club. A cheap charge controller was bought on eBay.This combination works fine but the freezer does not keep things as cold as a normal freezer. It stays around 15 degrees F, which I monitor with one of those cheap indoor/outdoor wireless temperature gauges from ABC Warehouse. This temperature is measured near the top of the freezer so should be about the warmest spot. I tried using 130 watts of solar panels and it did not do the trick maybe if I cut a tree or two and adjusted the panel vertical angle seasonally it would work with the 130 watts?

11/29/12 Update

Recently the freezer's control unit died and freezer would not work at all.I contacted Sundanzer (915-821-0042) and spoke with "Billy". He was very helpful and, even thought the freezer is out of warranty, he shipped me a replacement controller at no cost. Replacement was easy and the freezer is now functional again. I did learn that Sundanzer has gone to a different manufacturer for the controller (and compressor?).The controller in my unit was made by ACC in Italy. I'm not sure what kind of service I will receive in the future as it is my understanding that Sundanzer no longer uses this manufacturer. The controller Billy sent me was one of only six they had in stock and they were not able to test it before sending it do me. Billy attempted to test it with the only compressor they had in stock that was compatible with the ACC controller, and none of the six controllers they had in stock wouldwork with that compressor. Thus it would appear that the only compatible compressor Sundanzer had in stock was defective. I also asked Billy if there was some way to make my freezer operate at a lower temperature and he responded that he would also send me the "ice cream thermostat" for my freezer.Again, replacement was a snap but it did not seem to make much of a difference in the freezer's temperature.I concluded that I probably did not have enough solar panels to keep my 24 volt battery fully charged and added another 124 watts of solar panels, making a total of 424 watts in panel output. The freezer now maintains a temperature consistently around 2 degrees F toward the top of the unit and a degree or two lower at the bottom. mkwalker16@hotmail.com

I couldn't get my water dispenser and ice maker to work. The pump seemed to be running but nothing would come out. I noticed that the water filter would screw in but not lock in place. I bought this item thinking that something had worn down and somehow prevented activation. I turned out to be right. There is a notch inside where you screw in the filter or bypass plug. If this isn't depressed water will not feed the filter. I could obviously see what was broken once I removed the old assembly. Easy install. This has extended the life of my refrigerator.

Received this item from seller (Pandora) several days earlier than expected.It is a genuine GE part.Installation was very easy, although no instructions came with the part (I had found videos online before ordering, so not a problem).The part removed had a styrofoam piece on the top of the assembly that needs to be carefully removed and transferred to the new part (an insulation function, I suppose).The entire process took no more than 30 minutes, and the water flows to the dispenser once again.

I guest many of you out there have seen the GE refrigerator water running slow problem. and you cant clear the pip, filter head using air compressor then you need this one. it works. I thing the one problem with this is it does not have the top foam.. So don't through away the original one for this. Install it is a peace of cake.

The part was ordered from amazon itself and was a genuine GE part.Replacement was pretty easy.

Apparently, sometimes the filter assembly can become clogged.Since I couldn't figure out how to unclog it, I replaced it.If anyone knows how to unclog the filter assembly, please post.)In doing so, I tripled my water flow rate!!!The water now flows like when the refrigerator was new.While low water flow can be the result of many things, I had confirmed that the problem was within the filter assembly (and not the filter itself, insufficient water supply, inlet valve, frozen water line in the door or any other part).

It arrived this morning.

Our old fridge, not so old really, 7 years, but I disliked it from the day it arrived,It didn't hold enough, and had awkward areas that didn't hold anything.It had a whole shelf too short for anything but a pizza box.Lost space, in my case.When we had pizza, the leftovers weren't left in the box.And a whole shelf 2 inches high?An egg carton wouldn't fit.

This refrigerator lights up like the Las Vegas Strip! There's not a shadow, or dim corner anywhere.

It seems I have a whole lot of condiments, and this refrigerator held them all in the doors.No room to spare, but still, it held them all!

I spread the food out, organized it, and had room to spare on the shelves. There's lots of room for veggies, which is great, since I seem to buy more produce these days.

The freezer is a little tight, but it's organized, and I can find things. It has multiple areas.Three bins, two drawers, and even an area for tiny things that would have been lost forever in my old freezer.

I only gave four stars because of the freezer size, and the stainless 'skin' seems a little fragile.I think if I had little ones with 'pounding' tendencies, I'd have a dented up refrigerator.Just my impression.

All in all, I'm sure glad I got this.

If I like it this much in a year, it will be my best purchase, ever.

Took possession of my LG FRIG December 30th 2011.Called for repairs on December 11th 2012, was told the parts he needed would be ordered and arrive with him.Waited 4 hours for the repair man only to told he doesn't have all the parts needed to complete the job.Tech says he doesn't order the parts, LG orders for him.Problem lies in the MFG.Freezer fan does not cool the ice maker enough to keep the ice frozen.So the ice melts and and then refreezes.But it freezes on the fan itself.A Known problem for this LG frig.But they wait until it breaks to replace the defective control panel and grill.The freezer fan froze and the fan stopped working and I lost all the products in the very large freezer.Now I have to take a second day off from work to get this fixed.Again, LG knows about this problem and doesn't fix it until the unit breaks.We registered our product as soon as we got it.They could have fixed the problem before mine broke and had to take 2 days off of work and lose all that money in food.They chose not to.

Seems like a great product and value.However, they made the shelves too close together.It does hold the smallest bottles of wine, but many "Standard" bottles (Dancing Bull, Rancho Zabbaco, etc) don't fit unless they are jammed in and then you can't get them back out without unloading the whole thing.Don't waste your time and get a model that is more versatile.As if insult to injury, the thermostat didn't work either but that was probably a fluke.

My boyfriend bought this wine refrigerator for me as a birthday gift on a total whim. It was a fantastic, unexpected present and has so far worked perfectly for me. I've never owned a wine cooler previous to this one, but I do live in a smaller apartment, so it's compact size is exactly what I needed. As another review stated, the shelves are kind of close together preventing the BIGGER wine bottles from fitting side-by-side, however all standard wine bottles will fit. I tend to buy the larger bottles of Barefoot Moscato, in which case I simply remove one shelf for the time being. Personally, I'm not at the point where I've collected dozens of wines and will RARELY have more than 12 bottles at one time to fill this fridge anyway. All in all, it's a fantastic product that chills wines perfectly and fits just about anywhere. :)

It fits and does the job. But fridge still occasionally freezes the milk, have to manually defrost by turning the timer's knob to OFF a few times (extending the defrost time several fold) then it is OK for a few months. Or weeks. Kind of unpredictable. I think ice forms in the air channel between the freezer and the fridge (the floor of the freezer) and maybe locks the flap that regulates the air flow down into the fridge part. Whatever it is, this timer is supposed to prevent ice buildup by turning on a heater. I wonder if the heater is doing its job. May just junk the fridge if it quits regulating entirely.

Defrost timer is working great but didn't solve my problems with the 'fridge.Needed to replace the defrost thermostat to finally fix and prevent the ice build-up that was preventing cooling.So lesson learned look at both (timer and T'stat) as they are the most common failure points.

We've had this fridge for over 3 months.It chills very well, looks great in our upstairs breakfast bar, and is very quiet.

Update:After having it for 6 months, I walked by and noticed water on the floor in front.I began to inspect what was causing the leak found in the lower back of the fridge was about 3/4" of ice and was keeping the unit from cooling.So I dethawed and was back in business, but also notice the light wasnt working.Just keep in mind that you will have to manually defrost this unit.

We use this as our beverage refrigerator for sodas, beer, etc. We've had it now for about a year and it has been fantastic. I wish the LED light turned on with the door but it hasn't been an issue with use. The temperature is consistent, it isn't noisy, and it looks nice. Like others, I purchased this cooler to take the place of an old trash compactor and I couldn't be more pleased. Unpack, plugin, and slide into the hole. That simple! You have to remove one of the shelves to put normal sized water bottles, etc in it but it still holds plenty of drinks and keeps them ice cold. Highly recommended!

Unit was shipped as promised, and came undamaged, and operated fine out of the box.

Unit got cool and stayed cool in first 2 weeks, so no complaints about performance.

However, you should know that the built-in light: a) is insufficient, b) does not go on when you open the door, c)will only stay on for 10 minutes before shutting itself off, and, d) most annoyingly, can only be turned on by first unlocking the whole unit by pressing two buttons at the same time, and THEN the light button. Unless you are the owner, you would have no way to know this. I contacted customer Service and they confirmed these features and that there are no ways to alter them. If you purchase this model, you essentially own a unit without a light.

This side by side refrigerator has a huge storage capacity and comes complete with a touchscreen computer that does everything but cook for you. Having owned Samsung refrigerators in the past, I find myself more than delighted with this latest offering. As with my previous one, the ice maker is built into the door, thus saving a lot of room in the freezer section. All the excitement today seems to be over french door refrigerator/freezers, but not for me. I don't like bending down to get things from a freezer. I find the side by side to be a lot more convenient. As mentioned, this has a large capacity, which measures approximately 30 cubic feet. It's all stainless steel and quite aesthetically pleasing. The refrigerator section has five spill proof tempered glass shelves. There are five door bins, three of which are large enough to store a 12-15 pound turkey(I'm guessing at this). The refrigerator also comes with three crisping drawers. The massive freezer comes with five glass shelves, and includes two drawers and three door bins. My previous Samsung had a 27 cubic foot capacity, but somehow this one seems to be significantly larger. The touchscreen, while somewhat intimidating, serves a number of purposes, such as providing you with recipes. It's also capable of connecting to AP News, Pandora radio, and can even store your photographs. Once you get used to it, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it. My only concern is that a touchscreen computer can be problematic if the software malfunctions, thus my recommendation would be to purchase an extended warranty, which would cover any needed repairs or malfunctions. The touchscreen also provides you with basic information about the refrigerator/freezer, such as temperature, time, etc. You can even use it to get the latest weather report. It's truly phenomenal. While this is an expensive refrigerator/freezer, in my opinion it's worth the price due to its enormous storage capacity, numerous bins and shelves, and definitely for the touchscreen computer. I'm rating this 4 stars(see below) because I just purchased it and have no comments that I can make regarding long-term reliability. My previous Samsung worked flawlessly, with the exception of one issue that I had with the ice maker. For this reason, and for the fact that this model has the same type of ice maker, I'm hesitant to give it 5 stars. Here's the problem that I had. On the older unit, the ice maker jammed, and not knowing what to do, I opened the freezer door and emptied the entire ice bin. When I closed the door, the ice maker was still jammed, so I switched buttons from ice to water. As soon as I did this, water was spilling all over the floor, as it wouldn't shut off. When I opened the freezer door, the water would stop dripping, but as soon as I closed it, it would continue to run. After a couple of minutes, I discovered that the problem was that ice had become jammed in the door dispenser. I stuck my hand up the dispenser and removed it. After doing so, the ice dispenser resumed working properly and the water ceased spilling on the floor. The exact same thing happened two times while I owned the older model. When I called Samsung regarding this new refrigerator/freezer, I was told that this problem does not exist on this model. Only time will tell if this is true. The bottom line is that this is an awesome refrigerator/freezer. It's probably more than most people would ever need, but is certainly something that a lot of people would find extremely useful. If it turns out to be reliable, than it's without a doubt one of the best appliances that you could ever hope to own.
