Fisher & Paykel Izona RX216DT7X2 21.6 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator

Fisher & Paykel Izona RX216DT7X2 21.6 cu. ft. Side by Side Refrigerator
  • 21.6 cu. ft. storage capacity
  • Humidity crisper bin
  • Beverage chiller
  • Vegetable & meat drawers

We purchased this refrigerator from a Menard's 70 miles north of our hometown. At the time we weren't really looking for a refrigerator, but the one we had was very small and not that functional.

We saw this refrigerator on a "special buy" and bought it on the spot! We purchased it for $899!!!

This is a sleek beautiful machine. There is a compartment on the door with its own sliding doors for milk, juice, etc, that has direct airflow from the freezer! It makes those drinks so cold and yummy! There are adjustable glass shelves that make it very easy to keep clean, one small drawer, one large drawer, and one drawer with an angled bottom that sits over the compressor.

On the freezer side, there are several wire shelves but, there are also deep pull out baskets! The baskets are so much easier to use than stacking items up in a freezer full ofshelves and having to unpack an entire shelf to get to the back item!

I also want to point out that there are two lights on the fridge side and a the freezer side it lit as well. I have never had a fridge, either top feezer, or side by side that has a lit freezer!!!

There are digital controls, a filter order and filter replace indicator and a door open alarm.

I love this fridge, it's huge, but it looks so nice in our small kitchen!

Our fridge is the Kenmore Elite (made by Whirlpool) with black sides and what would normally be called 'black' plastic handles & trim.We had to return this part because it was very dark black and didn't match. We reordered the "gray" (J code) and that color matches. The gray is very dark charcoal gray, however.I'm giving 4 stars because it was impossible to tell the color difference from the pictures or the description.

Also, both boxes were ripped open at one end (delivered by USPS).The black-black one was loose in the box and fell out when I picked it up off the porch. The grey-black one had been wrapped in a UPS (not USPS) bag and jammed into the box so it wouldn't fall out.

I've got a Whirlpool fridge with this stupid handle on it.. and in less than a year I've broken two of them.Sears wants between $50 and $75 a piece for these things, and shipping costs extra and takes two weeks. Why pay that money when you can get the same part here for half the money, and have it in hand in two days?I'd give this a 5-Star rating if I thought it had any better chance of surviving and not breaking.. but.. I know this is a flawed design.

Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Chrome/Black

Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Chrome/BlackI purchased this coffee maker around Christmas and was a little concerned over the prior reviews that stated it uses too much coffee. The chemist in me had to do the experiment.

A standard issue coffee from Starbucks was ground to a standard medium grind for coffee makers of this type. The coffee was measured on a 1 gram precision scale according to the specification on the Starbucks coffee bag (2Tbs per 6oz cup) to make 6 cups of coffee. The coffee grinds weighed to be 54 grams. The same coffee beans from the same bag were ground in the coffee maker set to 6 cups and strong. The coffee grinds were then measured on the same scale and wouldn't you know...it was exactly 54 grams.

For my coffee beans this machine on the 6 cup setting produced the following:

Strong = 9 grams (2Tbs) of coffee per cup of water

Medium = 8 grams (about 1 3/4Tbs) of coffee per cup of water

Mild= 7 grams (about 1 1/2Tbs) of coffee per cup of water

I can't imagine that one couldn't find a setting to their liking when you consider you have increments of 2 cups with 3 settings (strong, medium and mild) each.

After considerable research for the absolute best coffee maker in the world, I decided to purchase the Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB-700BC. It has a burr grinder. This one has the 12-cup glass carafe and it has a warming plate. Reviews on the stainless steel carafe have stated there is no warming plate. It seems the glass one does and the thermal one does not. It works perfectly and is very easy to program and use. It comes with a DVD which simplifies the process even more.

It can also brew ground coffee. Just turn off the grinder before pressing the on/off button and it's ready to go.

As for noise, I don't consider it too noisy. After all, it IS a coffee grinder and I expect to hear it when it grinds the coffee.

The hopper holds a half-pound of beans which is enough to make coffee several times (if you're using the mild setting).

The retail price is $199, but many places have it routinely for $169. I purchased mine at Kohls for $159 and they had a "scratch off" sale going on and I got an additional 15% off at the checkout.

I highly recommend this coffeemaker.

I have owned a couple of grind and brews in the past with mixed results. Our first was a Mr Coffee back in the 1990's. It made great coffee, but was messy, and broke frequently. We also had the first Jura Capresso model about 6 years ago. I liked it, but my wife felt that no matter what the settings were, the coffee was bitter. Recenly we had been using a Krups stand alone machine, that makes good coffee, and a stand alone Krups burr grinder. Since our Krups burr grinder was getting finicky, and the coffee post was getting old, we decided to give the DGB700 Grind and Brew a try.

My initial take, is that it makes an excellent cup of coffee, better than my last Krups machine. I am still experimenting with the settings, but so far I am very pleased.

You do need to follow the directions. The key points I have found, is to make sure that the basket parts are dry. This means a quick rinse and dry between pots if you are making more than one.

I also have cleaned out the chute where the ground coffee goes into the basket. It's very easy, and although mine was not clogged after about 6 pots, I did see where the grounds were building up in there a bit. My stand alone burr grinder had the same issue, but the new Cuisinart pot is actually very easy to clean in this area. Just remove the bean hopper, open the chute, push the lever over, and push they grounds into the basket area. (put a filter in first). Actually now, I just clean the chute each time. It takes less than a minute, and I think that this is the one main issues that some people are having.

Also, I have lined up the arrows on the top of the basket. Easy to do, and it avoids some of the negative comments on other reviews. Finally, if you use paper filters, make sure that the top of the plastic basket is going INSIDE the top of the filter.

My wife likes her coffee mild and smooth, but flavorful. My settings to make 12 cups, are 6 Cups on the grind selector knob with Mild or MED on the brew strength selector. The brew has good smooth flavor, and is not bitter. I also drink a lot of iced coffee. I will simply up the strength when I make coffee for that.

Again, so far, so good. I think that following the guide and keeping the machine clean and dry should produce good results.

One last thought... other Grind and Brew brands (Jura Capresso) make a major point about NOT storing beans in the freezer. Actually, I have done this for years, but after doing a bit of Google research, I find that it's better to just keep the beans in an airtight container, and only open what you will use in a couple of weeks. We are doing that now. I do notice that this sees to make the beans less oily, so that may also be a key to why some people get clogs.

I will post a follow-up after I have had the machine for a few months.

OK.. update as of 3/12 the unit is still working well.I do clean the chute after most every pot, but this is easy, and only takes a minute.Again... I strongly suggest NOT storing your beans in the freezer. The research shows that freezing the beans can force oil to the surface of the bean, which can contribute to clogs.I will say that this pot makes excellent tasting coffee.

We have had to return two of these units because the grinder stops working. The problem is that the chute beneath the grinder is horizontal so the coffee grinds have to be pushed into the filter rather than falling in. Even after cleaning, the coffee grounds get packed into the grinding mechanism causing it to break.

I do understand why people say this is a great coffee maker though. When it works, it is very convenient and grinding the beans right before the brewing makes great coffee. I want to like this product but the poor design of the grinding chute makes it unusable.

Cuisinart is a decidedly unhelpful company. If you have a defective product, you can expect long hold times and rude customer service agents. The warranty on this item is that if you pay shipping & handling both ways, they will send you a replacement. After three defective units, they will issue a credit for other cuisinart products.

Update: California law requires them to replace the product without charging for shipping & handling. So, after telling me that they wouldn't waive those charges, they had to waive them anyway due to California law.

About once every two weeks I have a "bad coffee day" in which my machine just gets persnickity.I am usually guaranteed that I will have to make at least two pots before it gets it right.OK, so I've had this machine at my vacation home for about a year now and here's what I've learned:

1.The paper filters are much more convenient than the metal basket. I just throw the paper filter (preferably the unbleached kindbetter for the environment) into my garden and then all I have to do is rinse the basket and wipe with a sponge.Saves time and my septic system from the coffee grounds.

2.Don't forget to use a filter of some sort in the basket or your counters, cabinets, floors, walls, etc. will get coffee makeover.I am talking from experience.

3.Make sure you clean most of the removable parts before each use.You only need to clean the coffee bean holder every so often (I do it when the beans start to run out). You don't need to do a soap and water cleaning on the other parts but you should wipe them down with a rag or sponge under running water. It only takes a few seconds.Once a week or so toss everything into the dishwasher.

4.Make sure you have enough beans in the holder to brew the amount of coffee you want.As I said above, when it gets low is when you want to do your thorough cleaning.

5.Make sure that you put the carafe in fully and correctly. If there is one BIG criticism I have about this machine is that it's very easy to misplace the pot and give your kitchen a nice coffee tattoo. This most often happens when I am in a hurry and really don't have time to be cleaning up a big mess.

6.Clean the chute. You have to clean the chute regularly. Here are a few tips I've learned to make it easier.First, put a filter in the basket when you do this (I like to do it after I've done the "dishwasher cleaning" of my parts, but before I brew the next pot) but don't put the lid on the basket. That way the grounds will fall directly into the lined basket and if you do this often, there's no reason why you can't just leave them in there while you brew the next pot (your coffee will be a little stronger).Cleaning the chute only take a few seconds.

This is the 3rd incarnation of a Cuisinart grind 'n brew coffee maker I've had.The first was the one with the glass carafe where you had to put the beans in each time you brewed. There were 5 different parts that needed to be soap and water cleaned after each use, and quite frankly, I didn't notice a great improvement in quality of coffee for all the extra work. The second was just like the first except it had the thermal carafe. There was a vast improvement in quality, but again, so many parts to clean made me reluctant to use it.Also, unless you know exactly how to measure unground beans, you pretty much are stuck making a full pot of coffee. This last one has been a great improvement over the other two.I can make just a cup of coffee for myself in the morning or I can make a whole pot and everything in between.Yes there is a bit of labor to it, but considering where they've come from this machine is a vast improvement over the others and I can't stress enough how good the coffee is.

I've read the other reviews and the main things I hear people complaining about are that the pot doesn't pour fast enough and that the coffee isn't hot enough.I don't have a problem with how fast the coffee comes out of the carafe. It is a little slower but the difference is from a 3 second pour to about a 12 second pour. However, if that is unbearable I don't see why you can't just take the lid off of the carafe while you pour?It will come out just as fast as the glass carafe that way.

As for the temperature of the coffee, I am not sure how to address that as I've never found that to be a problem. When I do use the timer feature, I preheat the carafe at night before I set up the coffeemaker and the residual heat still assures that you are starting with a carafe that is not cold in the morning.Generally I don't use the timer and get my coffee immediately after it's done brewing.I also don't preheat my carafe. When I get my second cup in the morning it's still plenty hot so I'm just not sure what all the fuss is about.Of course I don't really like my coffee scalding hot either so maybe it's just a matter of preference.

I would also like to point out that I have recently remodeled my winter home and put in an $1,800 Miele coffeemaker that is built in and plumbed. It can make espresso, cappucino and cofffee with the push of a button. However, that has more parts to fuss with than this Cuisinart and talk about frequent cleaning! It does make the best cup of coffee I've ever had, but it's not all that much better than this unit at a fraction of the cost.

The bottom line is this-if you want a really, really good cup of coffee you either have to go to a coffee shop and pay for it (and often I find their beans much inferior to the ones I use) or put up with the inconvenience of the home machines. As far as I know, no one has come up with the perfect machine yet, but this one does make a most excellent cup of coffee.

So when deciding whether or not you want to buy this machine I would say you would need to ask yourself what's more importantquality or convenience. If you are a coffee fanatic as I am, it will be quality and this machine does come through. If you love coffee but are time challenged and can't be bothered with all the extra steps then I would say that this machine isn't for you.

Supco Replacement for UKF8001 Refrigerator Filter

Supco Replacement for UKF8001 Refrigerator FilterThe filter worked for 2 weeks, then the fridge warning came on to say replace the filter. Our other one worked for 6 months.

The filters fit and at first the water tasted fine. After about the 4th week of use, the water tasted worse than not using any filter at all.In fact the water tasted awful. I noticed these were made in China and my next filter will either be made in the U.S. or Canada.

[Updated 3/11/13] I lowered my ranking from two stars to one. I had ordered two of these and after the first one went bad, I put in the second. The second filter only worked for a little over a week and then the water had a foul taste. Because the unfiltered water in our house doesn't taste bad like that I can only assume that something has been put in this filter that is not good. Whatever it is taints the taste of the water. I have thrown it away and will never buy one of these filters again.

Works in maytag as well, but if you are looking for a good replacement for kenmore filter 46-9006 this is it. great price and after running a few cups through it, it works great. Water tastes good and the flow rate is only very slightly below the flow rate of the originalI wouldn't even know if I didn't see it on the label. Leaves natural fluoride in the water to promote healthy teeth.

This also costs less than half what the kenmore filter costs from sears, shows what a ripoff they've got going with these things.

We had trouble with our ice having a bit of a nasty plastic/rubber smell and taste. I figured I'd give a filter a try and see if it would work at reducing and/or eliminating it.

I ordered the Whirlpool filter and after a quick and easy installation (as well as running water through it for a couple of minutes to clear up the charcoal particles) I was in business. The smell and taste is completely gone! My ice has no weird smell or taste. Can't recommend this filter enough.

Having moved recently, we were not happy to note the odd taste of the city water in our area.As our Kenmore refrigerator is the type that dispenses ice and water, we felt that installing an inline filter was a good idea. This filter does a great job of eliminating the strong chlorinated flavor that was in our water. In fact, the difference is so obvious, even our kids commented.

My husband knows his way around a tool box so the installation of this filter was fairly routine for him. However, those who are intimidated by the idea of making burr free cuts in a water line may want to look at a different filtering solution. The filter is fairly small and easily tucks away out of sight behind the appliance without forcing the unit further out into the room.

If you happen to click on additional information you will find it says "fits any standard 1/4-inch water line"...not quite so. If you are replacing an existing filter which has the standard 1/4" NPT fittings then this filter will NOT work. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't have pictures of the end of the filter which would greatly help in preventing ordering this filter incorrectly. So now I'm stuck with paying $6 to return it. I think it's time to go to HD or Lowes where I can see it before I buy it.

Looks OEM. It fits and works is all the good I can say. The first indication I might have a problem was "Assembled in China" on the filter housing. Water did not taste as good as with an OEM filter, tasted like cold tap water. After less than 2 months of use the flow had diminished greatly. Ice was cloudy unlike OEM. Doubt if there's any charcoal in it. I'll only use OEM from now on, I changed it out with an OEM filter from the appliance store.

Drip Pro Hose End Mechanical Timer - 5 - 120 Minutes 3/4" FHT Inlet x 3/4" MHT Outlet

Drip Pro Hose End Mechanical Timer - 5 - 120 Minutes 3/4' FHT Inlet x 3/4' MHT OutletI purchased two of these mechanical timers for the 2011 gardening season and they have both worked out just fine. The Drip Pro's don't feel cheap like the Orbit units found in Lowe's.The timer knob has a fairly substantial feeling to it when you adjust the watering time. It's also got a "on-manual" setting on the knob.My units don't leak when in the "Off" position.

I forgot them outside last winter where they hung from my faucets unprotected from the cold I live in Central California where we get several nights of freezing temperatures during the winter each year The units worked just fine when I started using them this spring even though they were subjected to sub-freezing weather. This year they get stored in the garage!

I got the timers for my drip gardening system as well as "hose & low sprinkler" irrigation on a few trees.Using the timer, I no longer realize that I've left the water running for 2 days on a tree (!) so between the Drip Pro and the timer on my Smartphone, the watering activities in my backyard seem to be under control.

I am purchasing a 3rd Drip Pro today for yet another faucet.

Chrome Air Gap (RO) Reverse Osmosis System Faucet

Chrome Air Gap Reverse Osmosis System FaucetI've been using this faucet for a couple of months now. It is soooo superior to the Watts 1160xx model I had previously. The lever action is smooth and exudes quality. Very nice and well worth the extra money. If they only made it in white!

Haier WDNSC145 Convertible Freestanding Full-Size/Tabletop Water Dispenser

Haier WDNSC145 Convertible Freestanding Full-Size/Tabletop Water DispenserThis is my first Haier product.I've had this for a couple weeks and it has been working great. When you first turn the cold water switch on, it takes about 10-15 mins to get cold, but if you leave it on it's cold all the time.Same with the hot water, it takes about 5 minutes or so to heat up.

One problem i've noticed (minus the one star) is that when you have both hot and cold water switches on, both the hot water and cold water compete for ready access. This is not a big deal, so I usually just leave one switch on a time (usually cold since it gets the majority usage).

As far as heating and cooling quality, when it's hot, it's SUPER hot. When it gets cold, it's cold enough to condensate your glass, but not ice cold still refreshing!

UPDATE:Here's something else I wanted to add.Unlike other water coolers, this one does not run constantly cold or hot. If you have the cold switch on, it will keep recooling the water in cycles (you'll see the cold water light go on every 20-30 mins or after use).Same with hot water. If you have the switch on, it will reheat the water in cycles (every 20-30 mins or after use).Another minor annoyance (-.5 stars), but again, it's tolerable.

Updated rating:3.5 out of 5 stars

I was attracted to this unit because it includes separate power switches to turn off the hot and/or cold water when you want to. I like hot water on the red tap, and room temperature water on the blue tap, and it's actually very hard to find that combination of features.

Unfortunately, the water that comes out tastes like burnt plastic. I called manufacturer, who suggested soaking the inside of the unit with solution of baking soda (1 Tbsp), vinegar (1 Tbsp), and water (1 Gal), but this did not fix the problem.

One other note: Having tried out a few water dispenser units recently, I can say without a doubt that this one has the most annoying child safety device on the hot water tap. As a result, the hot water tap is awkward to use.

Manufacturer offered to send a replacement but it would take three weeks to arrive. Since we had already waited two weeks for delivery of the original unit, I decided to return the product for a refund instead.

The Amazon.com return page said I would have to pay return shipping, but I called Amazon and they sent me a free return shipping label.

In sum: the product quality was lousy but the customer service from the manufacturer was pretty good and from Amazon was outstanding.

I bought this unit when I was moved to the bungalows at my school and wanted a way to have hot water for instant coffee and cold water for the many days when our room a/c is broken. For the three months that I've had it so far, it's been great.I like the fact that I can turn the power off on the unit for evenings or weekends (just adds good peace of mind), and switch it on in the mornings for quick hot water and refreshing cold water throughout the day.I use 3-gallon home delivery bottles that I take to and from school without problem and these, combined with the countertop nature of this dispenser, make this just too convenient for me NOT to have!

We've only had the dispenser for about a month now, so I don't know how valuable my opinion really is. Nevertheless, no problems thus far. The design is slightly confusing, not in respect to putting the base together, that was pretty straightforward, took only 15-20 minutes. But the base is made out of thin plastic panels, on which you place the 25-30 pound water filter machine, and then on top of that goes the 5 gallon jug of water. Honestly, I'm amazed the whole thing hasn't collapsed. But there it is, with no visible signs of the dispenser falling over anytime soon. There was a bizarre, chlorine like odor in the kitchen the fist week we turned the machine on, but no one's gotten sick from the water. -UPDATE: the dispenser lasted from 2007 to 2012. That's five years without one problem with it. Not a bad deal for the price.

We recently discontinued our bottled water service at work to save some money. So the four employees that are in the office on a daily basis chipped in to buy our own unit (and refill our 5-gal jug at home).I did a lot of reviewing on Amazon and other sites. This unit stood out as the best deal. After some easy assembly and start-up, we are all extremely pleased with it (one month later). It's great having on/off switches for both hot and cold water. We can turn the unit off on the weekends to save power. We did have a slight leak in the cold water spigot. But after popping the lever with it's own spring action, it re-seated and has worked fine since.Something to keep an eye on.Very happy overall.

We bought this refrigerator eight months ago and have really enjoyed it. My wife and I have four children, so we load up both the fridge and freezer sections. We are always surprised at how much it will hold. I often open the door wondering where another plate of leftovers will go and somehow it just fits. For example, we keep four gallons of milk in one fridge door along with numerous bottles of condiments and usually a sippy cup or two. The slide out tray holds a deceptively large amount of stuff.

We couldn't be more pleased with ours and have had no problems, although sometimes the ice comes out a little crushed when it is supposed to be cubed. And we really like the way it looks.

I would recommend it and would purchase it again.

Had it since July. The doors require a conscious effort to close, which after two months, we have not mastered. There is a soft beeping alarm that sounds after a time if the doors are not sealed.Despite this, we all find the doors ajar for no reason. The freezer frosted over after about 24 hours of being slightly open (we were gone overnight).Maybe we've had a lifetime of old fridges with inefficient, easy to close doors and need more time to get used to this fancy piece of equipment?I'd like to observe other "high-end" fridge doors in action.

Also, the ice cubes and crushed ice comes spraying out, making it difficult to capture them in a glass underneath the shoot. The inset tray does not have a drain for the melted ice which does not (in volume) make it into the cup.We keep a cotton rug nearby to absorb the water that comes from the ice surging beyond our containers onto the floor. The water that pools in the tray we soak up with a towel.

The fridge came new with a new house.

We remodeled our kitchen in Feb 2012 and bought over 5K worth of SS appliances (and 5-year warranties) from Brandsmart in Deerfield Beach,Fl including this lovely-looking Whirlpool-Gold stainless-steel French Door Bottom Freezer refrigerator. Just 6 months later the plastic CENTER SUPPORT SNAPPED IN THE FRONT to cause the 2 vegetable/fruit bins it supported to 'fall' and become cockeyed (dropping inward, toward the center next to each other); this made the veggie bins hard to pull out and made the bottom DELI bin impossible to pull out (since the 2 veggie bins above it were now sitting upon the DELI bin below them).

There was no problem with Whirlpool Customer Service to send out a new plastic center support REPLACEMENT part since this was well within the 1-year warranty period from the Manufacturer (and the Brandsmart 5-year warranty period). Installing this part was easy and at first we chocked this up to 'infant mortality' where a somewhat defective piece of plastic had gone bad...(but we were WRONG!)...I say this because just 6 months after installing the REPLACEMENT part from Whirlpool, the same thing happened again...the same plastic center support SNAPPED IN THE FRONT to cause the 2 vegetable/fruit bins it supported to 'fall' and become cockeyed (dropping toward the center, and making the DELI drawer impossible to open).

Examination of the failing part shows a very weak engineering design concept in my opinion...that a 1/8-inch-thick piece of plastic that's about 1-inch wide, front to back could support the contents of not one, but TWO Vegetable/Fruit bins. Everyone knows that apples, oranges, pears, lettuce, lemons, and nearly every kind of fruit or vegetable has some WEIGHT that must be supported, and in this case the weight of a normal amount of veggies and fruits will cause the breaking failure of the plastic center support over time (6-months in my case). I have never owned a refrigerator with such a flimsy support system for the vegetable drawers or had to 'estimate' how many pieces of fruit or vegetables I could safely ADD to the two bins to avoid this CENTER SUPPORT SNAPPING failure due to their weight. So now I have an expensive piece of stainless-steel fridge that looks great on the outside but is very poorly designed inside with respect to the CENTER PLASTIC SUPPORT that really 'CAN'T SUPPORT' much weight in the vegetable/fruit bins at all.

To make matters worse when I called up Brandsmart Warranty services for a new veggie-bins center support the girl I spoke with told me "THIS ISN'T SUPPORTED BY YOUR WARRANTY TERMS AND CONDITIONS"and that they would only support "ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL FAILURES of the fridge". When I questioned why a SNAPPING PIECE OF PLASIC THAT SUPPORTS TWO VEGETABLE/FRUIT BINS didn't fall into the MECHANICAL FAILURE category, she still denied my logic; when I asked to speak with a supervisor a man got on the phone and backed up the poor girl that first answered the phone... so I told the super I'd find a new place to shop the next time, and would never buy another Brandsmart Appliance or Warranty again! I reminded him that when I bought the FIVE-YEAR WARRANTIES for all my new kitchen appliances in January, 2012 the salesman told me they would cover "ANYTHING THAT WENT WRONG" with them...the Warranty Supervisor told me that I was "misinformed" and that I should have read the terms and conditions before purchasing the warranties. I told him that I'd believed their salesman to be an honest guy and there was no mention about 'not replacing broken plastic parts' within the appliances when he sold me the warranties. So much for Brandsmart Warranties!

The good news is that I was able to buy a replacement plastic center support part from a local appliance parts store for under $20 that included a "free replacement of the part for LIFE". I installed the new part and will now hope this replacement part will last more than the 6-month lives of the first two that broke! Honestly WHIRLPOOL, did you ever TEST for the breaking weight of this extremely flimsy plastic center support for your two vegetable/fruit bins before releasing this refrigerator for sale? In my opinion the only thing that will permanently repair this engineering flaw is a center support part manufactured from metal instead of the plastic part supplied. For this reason only I'm giving this refrigerator a '2-star rating' as the rest of it has been working fine so far. (knock on wood!!!)

Want Whirlpool 26 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - GI6FDRXXY Discount?

We bought this fridge about two months ago as a replacement for a horrible Samsung that flooded our house. So far so good on this one.

It's big, with good-sized veggie and deli drawers, lots of tall shelves (once we took an extraneous one out), and a deep freezer. Everything seems to be kept evenly cool, except for a cold spot in the top middle where we found inadvertently frozen condiments. Now that we know, no big deal. The french doors work fine -the one that is supposed to be 'behind' the other will open/close independently with a bit of extra attention, and the alarm will let you know if you've forgotten it.

The only downside is the ice maker, which is ridiculously noisy both when filling with water and with chopping up the ice (or whatever it's doing). The capacity isn't nearly what you'd expect from such a big fridge; it runs out of ice after not many glasses. It has also jammed up with ice several times, requiring us to remove the ice from the top of the mechanism to prevent it from slowly melting into the little door tray all day. So definitely not a win in that department. But if you're mostly using the fridge as just a plain old fridge, then it's a good one.

I purchased this fridge from Lowes on May 1. By early August the ice maker was dripping. I called Whirlpool and they sent out a service person. HOWEVER...before the repair guy arrived I realized that the entire unit was warming up. The dripping was caused from the ice melting (and pouring out the dispenser, down the front of the fridge). The freezer contents were thawing and the milk and meat in the fridge section were spoiling. Helpful Whirlpool customer service suggested I "reset" the computer by unplugging and replugging in the unit. Surprise! The compressor had been off, which I didn't realize. The unit began cooling down again and I hoped it was ok. But when the service guy arrived the next day he read the temperature and said my fridge was 47 (I had it set at 33) and the freezer was 44 degrees (set at -1).According to him, the sealed system was flawed. They were going to need to replace the evaporator, compressor and all the freon. It would take a few days to order parts and be a long process to replace the entire refrigeration function of my 3-month-old fridge.

The AMAZING part: Lowes is REPLACING my unit (hurray!) within a day, the price has gone down so I'll get some $$ back. Hopefully it will not go into repairing the stupid thing in another few months. But I'm really proud of Lowes. Fingers crossed that I don't have a big piece of garbage in my kitchen.

i do not like this product because my water from the fridgerator has like a chlorine or floride taste to it...its not to bad if the water is cold but if the water sits and gets warm it is awful....i would recommend buying the original one that the fridge comes with....

Purchased this as an alternative to normal charcoal filters trying to do my "green thing" for the environment.

I have switched back to normal filters. These do an ok job but they don't remove the taste that Dallas water has.Not much natural spring water here in the Dallas area and therefore water is pulled from reservoirs and ponds which has a high algae / green content.Normal filters filter out the taste, these don't.

Sorrytried but am switching back.

Purchased this filter to replace the LG LP700 filter in our fridge. The fit was perfect and we have not noticed any foul taste as stated in some of the other reviews. So far we are satified and would purchase again.
