KitchenAid 24.8 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - KBFS25EWMS

KitchenAid 24.8 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - KBFS25EWMSThe things I really like about this refrigerator which we have had for about three years are:

I really like the freezer on the bottom.I'm in the fridge more than the freezer and don't have to bend down to access the fridge. The freezer has a large (huge) basket with a smaller divided pull-out one on the top.The ice cube maker works fantastically.

I really like having the water dispenser on the inside wall of the fridge. The refrigerator maintains its sleek look but I still have access to filtered water.

I really like there is a shelf that pulls out making it easy to reach things stuffed towards the back.

I like that I can adjust the other shelves height.

I like the larger drawer below the two crisper drawers. We keep cheeses and lunch meats in it.Again, very accessible.

I like the big roomy size of the door shelves. They accommodate a full gallon jug of milk.

I like the stainless steel look but it does require maintenance because fingerprints are forever appearing on the front.

I purchased this refrigerator less than 4 years ago.For the second time in less than four years the central crisper supportmust be replaced. This is a plastic part that supports the two cripsers. It is held in place with a small plastic tab at the back, so when the drawers are extended this small plastic tab supports the weight of the crisper. And itbreaks off.I was told by customer service that you "can not fill the crispers too full or put too much weight in them" (BUT no definition of the maxium load).I have never had this problem before with a refrigerator; this part is poorly designed for its use.I learned from "customer support" that there is a 30 day return policy and a 90 day warranty on the part. They will not replace the defective part; you must pay for it.If you try to replace the part under the 90 day warranty, you must have a technician come to verify that the part was properly installed (!).AND you must pay for this inspection of the $30 part (apparently this cost varies by area so they have no idea what this would cost you).I have to say this is the worst customer service I have encountered for a poorly designed part.

I chose this for the internal ice maker and water dispenser and it does that fine.

About a month now using it and it is great.

We bought this 4.5 years ago for over $2000. This is the first expensive refrigerator I ever had. The electronics went out the other day. After a week of trouble-shooting, it is now fixed -but not under warranty. I believe a $2000 refrigerator should last longer than 4.5 years. The inexpensive refrigerators -Whirlpool and Roper that I've had in the past NEVER failed for as long as I had them. Amazing! My mother always sworn by KitchenAid appliances. I will never purchase another KitchenAid appliance again.

This fridge is slender and fits in almost every kitchen. It fits perfectly in mine. It has a lot of room in it and you don't have to bend down to grab anything unless you need something out of the freezer. The only thing I would change on it is adding an ice dispenser. That saves a lot of time from having to make your own ice in trays and I always forget to refill mine so I'm left with no ice. They do make them like this with a dispenser attached to the fridge section, and that's exactly what I am going to buy. The stainless steel look is the best look you can go with in your kitchen. It's classy and clean. Perfect addition to any kitchen.

I purchased this refrigerator as a birthday present for my husband, not *quite* sure if it was something he'd like.Well, as it turns out he loves it, despite a few limitations.

The unit came delivered in perfect condition. The only assembly that was needed was to insert the shelves and install the door handles. The instructions say to let the unit sit for 24 hours before plugging it in, but of course, we unpacked it and plugged it in before we saw the instructions.I unplugged it as soon as I ready that (so after maybe 20 minutes) and then plugged it in again the next day.It was fine, and it got up to temperature very fast.I can't remember how fast, but fast.

The unit is very quite. We have it in a back bedroom/play room, and you can sleep there without being bothered by the fridge.

Ok, so the weaknesses. We drink a lot of champagne, and the unit does not accommodate champagne bottles well. The shelves themselves are not metal and seem a little light for the $500-ish price tag, but they've been fine so far.Since the unit was not designed for champagne, it doesn't get super-cold, but cold enough for storage (46 degrees, I think). We have beer and red wine in the other side, I think at 50-something degrees.

I did a fair amount of research on wine refrigerators before I bought this one.So far, I'm happy with my purchase (it's been about a month). We'll see how I feel a year from now.

I bought this for office wine storage (yes, I work in a strange office).Assembly was straightforward once I figured out where they had stored the screw-in front feet.(They're tucked in a corner in the styrofoam).

I wasn't pleased that the instructions called for a few hours of settling before powering it on, but I've had another wine fridge die on me within days of arrival (not this manufacturer or model), so I let it settle.

Settings are straightforward and it maintains the target temperature with almost no noise.

On the downside, the shelves have these metal fronts on them (You can see them in the pictures. The shelves are just wire frame, but there's a front piece). You can't insert or remove even a standard bottle without sliding the shelf out. It's a minor nit, but my home fridge doesn't have this problem, so it bothers me a bit.

We were a little worried when the box showed up.The exterior of the box was bashed in.The shippers clearly gave this item a "fun" ride.Amazon or the manufacturer expected that, though, I guess. It was double boxed, and the inside box (and the product) were fine.

I would buy this item again.

One good looking wine chiller. Absolutely love the steel capped racking. It can store up to 32 bottles evenly with 16 bottles in the right zone and 16 bottles in the left zone. This is a compressor free vibration-free thermoelectric powered cooling type unit. My personal preference given the absence of vibration which can wreak havoc on older wines with softer corks. It also minimizes the drying effect of compressor coolers. The shelves can be taken out so I can put in bottles of varying sizes, but it still looks the best with all the racks installed.

Solidly-built and beautifully designed, I'm surprised it doesn't retail for twice the price. That's why I love shopping on here! It keep temps very accurately and the dual-zones are a real must especially when the hubby likes sangioveses to my reislings.

It's a good size chiller for most needs and complements a contemporary setting perfectly. Thanks Amazon!

I desperately wanted a dual-zone that would fit under the breakfast counter. I didn't need a built-in so this Whynter wine chiller was almost exactly what I had in mind.I'm smitten by the looks/pricing of this unit. Very cool. Nicely double packed for shipping and arrived quickly too.

I had a power outage and didn't realize the temperatures default back to the factory setting, I thought it was faulty but customer service did a great job explaining this to me. It's definitely a keeper.

Whynter WC-321DD 32 Bottle Dual Temperature Zone Wine Cooler, Stainless Steel Trimmed Glass Door with Black Cabinet

This 32 bottle wine cooler looks amazing. When it is completely filled, it just looks impressive and very swanky.Luxurious is probably the first word that I would use to describe this Whynter wine cooler.

The dual-zones are exactly what I was looking for to store white and red wines.32 bottles are for standard bottles, if you need to fit large champagnes bottles, you will obviouslyneed to remove a shelf or two as required. Not sure what the buzz is over thermoelectric units.

After a couple of weeks of use I can't tell if it's any better than your compressor based.Either way it's proven to be good buy. It's currently used as a free-standing unit right in the dining room.

Genius Air Plus Refrigerator Refresher & Deodorizer

Genius Air Plus Refrigerator Refresher & DeodorizerAlthough this gadget is mainly to keep the fridge smelling fresh (and it does), the reason I got it was because of the alarm to alert me when one of the doors doesn't close tightly.I have a three door fridge which I love, but one of the top doors doesn't always close completely.Being ajar even a little allows the light to stay on so the top shelf being nearest the bulb gets warm fast.Because the door is only open a little, I may not notice it and once it was like that all night causing various things to spoil. The fridge seems to know if the door is open for an extended period and turns itself off from perpetually running so that doesn't help either.

When I saw this gadget advertised, the one thing that got my attention was that an alarm would sound if the temp in the fridge got too warm.I couldn't get on the phone fast enough.I've had another temperature sensor that attached to the outside of the fridge with probes that supposedly attached inside with suction cups, but they didn't stick, the wires were in the way, the alarms were hard to set and if the thing did go off, I couldn't figure out how to turn it off without having to reset the whole thing. It wasn't effective and I eventually threw it out.

This thing is great. It takes batteries and shows the temp in the fridge in the little display window. When I open the door I can see what the temperature is easily and have come to expect it to be 38 degrees. There is a setting to have the alarm on or off in case you are cleaning things out and don't want the alarm to sound, but when the switch is on, it will sure enough make a sound loud enough to tell you the door has been open too long and the temp has risen too much. The alarm goes off immediately by itself when you close the door.I love this thing.Since I've been using it I haven't had any bad odors, but then that may just be because there hasn't been anything spoiled in there.I don't know.Maybe it's just working as designed.Produce seems to stay fresh for a good long time so it may be helping with that too.To me, both of those features are just extras. What I wanted was the alarm and I've been delighted that it's so effective.I highly recommend it over other gadgets to alert you to a door left ajar by mistake.

Update: I mistakenly thought the alarm sounded because of temp change sensed by this device, but upon reading the instructions (finally :) I see that the alarm sounds due to a light sensor on the device that knows when the fridge light has been on (therefore door open) for more than 60 seconds.

Of course I was skeptical, it sounded just like any other gimmick gadget. But since it was cheap I decided what the hay, why not give it a try. Well I was pleasantly surprised by the results. No odors whatsoever and my produce is lasting much longer. Paid for itself in weeks. I alos like the alrm to let you know if you left the frig door open, nice added feature.

Replacement part solved our problem of the air getting into the freezer through the ice shoot which was causing ice buildup around the ice tray where the ice drops into the ice shoot.

GE must have some type of defect with this part, because I needed to have it replaced a year ago for the same issue. If your ice chute is frosting up, shine a flashlight down the chute inside the door and check to see if any light is coming through the flapper from the outside. If so, your flapper is likely warped and will need replaced.Luckily, this part is relatively cheap (compared to an $80 service call minimum) and if you search for the part number on YouTube, you can find a video that explains how to easily replace it.Takes maybe 20 minutes.I ordered this part through a third-party (Pandora's OEM Parts) and it arrived quickly and was a genuine GE replacement. As another commenter pointed out, it's a shame GE didn't make this part easier to get to since you have to replace it so often!

I have antoher one of these i purchased locally and it works great. The problem is that the one I received from AMAZON had been traumatized in shipping and had some dents. It was clearly a returnable item, but when I went to return it the Amazon site said something like..."cannot return items with toxic liquids, contact manufacturer for returns"...I contacted Hair and they NEVER RESPONDED.I WOULD NOT BUY THIS FROM AMAZON IF I WERE YOU, CAUSE YOU ARE STUCK WITH WHATEVER ARRIVES IN THE BOX.

According to Haier Customer Service, this thing is only designed to "cool" to 45 degrees F.That is completely inadequate in my mind for a "beverage center."This fact is not in the user manual and it is not documented anywhere in the detailed specs here or at Haier's website. If I had known this fact, I would NOT have purchased this machine. As it is, I will probably donate it to a charity organization and buy a product that is designed for use in the real world....and it won't be a Haier product.

I do not usually do this, but I thought I'd take some time out to warn all of you out there. DO NOT purchase this item through Amazon.com. They sent me a USED item that looked like it had been opened and tampered with before. There were screws falling off inside the refrigerator that didn't look like they were supposed to be falling off. The door hinge was bent up. The bottom was glued up like it had been repaired before. The outside had scuff marks all over it like it had been tossed around.

I was expecting to pay for a NEW item and got someone elses USED old Refrigerator! I did not expect this buying from Amazon.com!

12 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler

12 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler
  • Quiet & vibration free thermoelectric cooling system
  • Digital temperature display
  • Compact storage for 12 bottles of wine
  • LED interior lighting
  • 3 chrome plated pull out shelves

After a lot of research I decided on the New Air AW-121E 12 bottle wine cooler. There are a lot of coolers out on the market and most of them have reputations for poor performance. New Air seemed to have the highest ratings so I went with it. The third party seller Air & Water Inc is great. Free ground shipping was a nice touch, shipped very fast. Now for the cooler:

Installation was pretty simple, plug it in and screw on the door handle. The screws on the handle are fine, but the holes are not perfectly designed for them to be screwed in by hand (unless you're really strong) but they went in smoothly with an electric drill. I turned on the cooler and set it to my desired temperature 60 degrees F to keep red wine. Some bottles actually suggest what temperature to store the particular wine at. If you're not sure, just ask at you're local wine shop and they'll be happy to tell you.

It took about two hours for the cooler to get to the temperature I set and I confirmed it with a thermometer (impressive since it started at 85 degrees). The machine itself makes no real noise. If you listen really hard and there are no other sounds in the room you might hear a slight hiss of the fan, but you really have to try to hear it. This thing is quieter then my 20x more expensive regular fridge/freezer. I have yet to find a 750ml bottle of red that does not fit. Some of the fatter bottles stick in the shelf a bit and fit better on the bottom. Since I bought it for red wine its not really a concern, but it probably would not fit champagne both in girth and length of bottle. I haven't tried it, so I can't be sure. You might be able to fit one at the bottom at an angle. The stainless steel looks very nice and the blue LED is a cool feature. Overall if you are looking to store 12 regular sized bottles of red or white, you can't get a better product for the money. Not sure on the longevity, but New-Air seems to have a reputation for lasting a good long while.

Pros:

Excellent price

Easy Set Up

Silent Running

Attractive Look, LED for nice presentation

Great for a Small Wine Collection

Cons:

Will not accomodate super fat or long bottles

Three shelves so the last three bottles just sit on the bottom, I'm fine with this, but it might bother others.

*****

Update

I have had this cooler for about 4 months now and I absolutely love it. So much so that I bought a second one to store my growing collection of white wines. They look very nice next to each other. It took a little longer to get down to the temperature I wanted (51 degrees), about 8 hours which was still impressive as the room was around 80 degrees. Two of these is cheaper then one of those dual zone fridges, and they also work a lot better. They make a little noise (a faint fan sound) the first day when they're cooling down, after that they are still just as silent as before. Also, regular sized 750ml champagne bottles do fit, an added bonus.

Buy 12 Bottle Thermoelectric Wine Cooler Now

I've had this cooler running in a room with an ambient temperature of 68 72F for 24 hours now, and I'm just about to switch it off and return it because of its noise level.

Initially I set it to its lowest temperature setting of 50F, which it reached in about 8 hours with 10 room-temperature bottles in it. Its fan was running continuously for that period, but that wasn't unexpected. I left the cooler at that setting overnight to let it stabilize. In the morning the fan was still running continuously. No problem, as I intended to run the cooler at 54F anyway. When I reset the temperature to 54F the fan switched off for several minutes, but after that it kicked in and out every minute or so. Out of curiosity I reset the temperature to 60F and got the same result the fan switched off for several minutes and the temperature drifted up (quite quickly), but once it reached 60F it cycled on and off repeatedly. It's currently running for about a minute, switching off for about 30 seconds, then switching on again for a minute, in a 72F room with the cooler set to 60F.

Now, if the fan was silent or nearly so then that wouldn't be a problem, but sadly that it isn't the case. Maybe this cooler is faulty, but the fan makes a fairly loud and penetrating buzzing sound when it's running, with the speed spooling up and down as it switches on and off. The noise level is comparable to that from noisy fans on a PC, but because it's a buzz that rises and falls and switches on and off repeatedly it's hard to ignore or get used to, and it's audible from adjacent rooms.

Two other reviewers said that the noise level on their coolers was minimal while another said that the fan was quite noisy, so this might be something that varies from one cooler to the next. I don't think anyone would describe the buzz I'm getting from this one as minimal though.

Anyway, back it goes.

UPDATE

Within an hour or so of contacting Amazon to return this item I received a call from the vendor (Air & Water) to ask if I wanted a refund or a replacement. I talked it over with them for several minutes before deciding on a refund, and shortly after that I received an e-mail with a link to print out a FedEx return label at their cost. So, although the cooler didn't meet my needs I'm very happy with the service from Air & Water.

Been running for quite a few months now.Great wine cooler but to get 4 or 5 stars it will need the following:1.Better spacing of the racks. Some bottles are difficult to get in an out because the shelves are too close together.2. Figure out how to make it a bit quieter. Just a constant hum that is louder than I think a unit designed to be out on a counter should be.

The EdgeStar has much to boast of: it is lightweight, easy to carry and move, roomy, attractive, and versatile as both a refrigerator and (marginally) as a freezer. Setup is simple, and the price is excellent. Strongly tainting this appliance however, is a thermostat dial which is either incompetently designed, incompetently calibrated, or both

Before continuing, let's not fail to note the advertised description for this product: "Just turn the thermostat to select the appropriate temperature for your application!"

Falling with equal snugness on the Things That Make You Go Duh list is the instruction manual telling us that "The knob has markings to indicate the relative temperature settings, but in general, turning the knob counter-clockwise corresponds to colder temperatures."

So if we turn the dial one way, it gets colder. Turn it the other way it gets warmer. We can handle that. The markings on the dial bear witness to and confirm this elegant conception of appliance design:

regrigeration------>MIN......OFF.....MAX

freezing----------->MIN......||......MAX

Interesting then, that in practice there is *no* temperature change in the freezer when dialed to "MIN", or dialed to "MAX". I measure both at a steady 20 degrees.

With some playing, one discoversthat colder temperatures are achieved, erratically, within the petite 1.5 millimeter space between the two vertical lines separating "Min" and "Max".

Moving counter clockwise per instructions along the dial after the arrow marked "Freezer", the temperatures I normally get are, in order:

20 (when dialed to "Min")

15 (when dialed to the left vertical line)

4 or 12 degrees (when between the two vertical lines)

10 (when dialed to the right vertical line)

20 (when dialed to "Max).

Perhaps the advertised 0 degree capability is buried someplace within the 1.5 mm space between the two vertical lines, but after several days of moving the dial minutely to the left or right, I'm unable to find it.

Additionally, after reaching the coldest discernable temperature of 4 degrees once, it took me 2 days to find it again while continuing my hunt for the elusive advertised0 degrees.

This is especially frustrating since it takes about half a day or more for a temperature change to be reached within the freezer after moving the thermostat dial -and when you move it, you don't know for certain if you're making it colder or warmer.

Which is to say, this isn't a particular fast appliance: The manual recommends not introducing frozen food to the freezer until it's been turned to the coldest setting (wherever that is) for at least 2 hours after turning it on. That seems wildly optimistic to me. In practice, it takes roughly 5 hours to freeze undersized 1" ice cubes from power-up using the tray bundled with this freezer.

To its credit, the EchoStar is fine as a refrigerator, and fine as a freezer as long as you aren't picky about hitting the the normally recommended 0 degrees for frozen foods.

But sorry, it should not require several days to find the coldest temperature on a device by nudging a dial back and forth within a space of a milimeter. And oddly enough, even without the instruction booklet telling me to do so, I fully expect "Max" to be colder than "Min", and not be actually located at some microscopicly ambiguous point between the two.

"Just turn the thermostat to select the appropriate temperature for your application!"

I was concerned when I ordered this product based on other feedback.I let the freezer sit for a couple hours after unpacking.I turned it on and set to max freeze and placed an icecube tray inside. It took 75 minutes for the water to freeze. We took it camping with us and after unplugging camper it took six hours for the ice cubes to melt.

Good points-

1) Small enough to carry up the stairs without help

2) Quieter than expected

3) Unlike a chest freezer, this one lets you have easy access to the contents

4) Low cost for electricity

Bad points

1) This is not for you if you're looking for something big enough to store a deer or other large item. For me, it's just the right size.

Just got this little beauty around 5:00pm today and plugged it in shortly after with freezer temp set to max and putting in a new Freezer thermometer. I read the post about defective temp control, but saw that others had 'no problem' so I played dumb and just cranked it up. Just as well, as it is now 7:30pm and I heard the freezer pump go off. I looked in the door and the thermometer was at rock bottom minus 20 degrees. Wow am I happy. My main refrigerator freezer is set well enough to keep frozen foods at 0 degrees and that's what I want this little model to do also. I turned the thermostatic control back a quarter turn to rest it between max and min on the freezer side. I'm thinking that it will now level out at zero.

How it works was my first concern, so now that that is settled I can only also add what others have said: It looks great!

It looks beautifully made and I won't be surprised to have this unit for many years to come. I got it to hold frozen foods I take out of my main refrigerator while I am thawing out my main refrigerator. I'll bet I start cheating now and start using this little gem to horde my favorite Ice Creams or stock up on meats or who knows what. A very good purchase at a very good price. I would highly recommend to a friend.

I've had this freezer for two weeks and am very happy with it.It got cold very quickly and reached a steady zero degrees with only two or three adjustments.(I've checked it repeatedly with a refrigerator/freezer thermometer to be sure it stayed there.)

I long wished I had a very small freezer in my room to hold ice packs when ill or recovering from surgery, because a small refrigerator doesn't get cold enough. It seems extravagant, but is well worth the cost when your family fridge and freezer are down the stairs and at the other end of the house.(Foot surgery finally drove me to buy this.)I use it for frozen foods as well.

It looks good, too I only wish the door had a brushed stainless steel instead of a dull mirror finish.

Two weeks is not long for rendering judgment (or I'd probably give it five stars) but I'm delighted to have it.It's good for recovery and makes things much easier for other family members while you're laid up.
