There are evidently two sizes of these just one number apart. The one I ordered turned out to be the 6" wide heaters and I needed the 9" wide heaters. So I am returning this one and ordering the right one. If the description had specified the width of the heaters I could have avoided the mistake. It was not mentioned that there are two sizes if these and they look alike in the picture. The description should warn people to measure their heaters before ordering. Now I get to schlep it to the post office and pay shipping again to return it.

This combo unit is a thermostat along with two glass radiant defrost heaters. Upon initial installation and operation, as it was in my case, it may seem as if the heaters are extremely hot. I believe this happened because my defrost timer was in or near the defrost position when I first turned on the refrigerator after installing the new parts. FYI: The defrost timer operates in 16 Hours ON/cooling 30-35 Minutes OFF/Defrost cycles. So, if your refrigerator compressor does not begin to function after 35 minutes, you may also (or only) need a new defrost timer. Anyway, after the 24 hour stabilization period, my refrigerator and freezer are working great maintaining perfect cooling (≈33°F) and freezing (≈-10°F) temperatures...Best that I can remember even before needing to replace the thermostat/heaters. Plus, the compressor doesn't seem to turn on/stay on as often as before.

After removing the old defrost heaters, I could easily see they were burnt-out...From visual appearance/inspection, I believe one heater was burnt-out for quite a while before the second one finally ceased. This was probably why, for quite some time, my compressor was going on more often and longer although the refrigerator/freezer seemed to be working fine. Now, both my refrigerator and freezer compartments are much better consistently cooled/frozen.

Overall, I am happy with this solution and expect to get another 15+ years use from my refrigerator.

Other Info:

I recommend completely (manually) defrosting your refrigerator before installing this kit...you'll get much better immediate and efficient results. Also, you may need some other low-cost item/sensor such as a defrost timer or refrigerator temperature sensor...even a main board is usually less than $100.00 and all worth it if your fridge is still in good shape otherwise.

Our refrigerator/freezer is 16 years old made by GE. We found in August'12 that it stopped cooling properly. Troubleshooted that the defrost heater was broken. I bought the vector cooler warmer (16 can version, same item), and tried it out. The metal element inside got cold, but it couldn't chill a small bottle of water after 3 hoursno way it was40 degrees belwo my room temp of 75 degrees. No wonder this thing is always on clearance. It did a little better on metal cans of soda directly touching the element, but not by much. The manual says for best results the food should be put in cold, or with an icepack, but as soon as it's shut off theres no insulation to keep the food cold, so the food quickly reaches room temp, according to the manual! Besides if I have to put in pre-chilled food andicepacks Im beter off using my insulated cooler which works, and is much more space efficient! Plus, the cooler only ostensibly brings the temp down to up to 40 degrees below ambient temp ( after 3 hours). I guess in a car where the temps go up to 130 degrees in the sun it would keep the food at 90 or so. I bought it forfifteen dol. on clearance , but returned it today. It simply wasn't worth the price. I would stay clear of this product. The only exeption I can think of is for someone who needs it only for metal cans of soda or beer and can wait several hours for a cool drink, although a cooler would still be more practical and cost effective.

I bought this because I have medication that needs to be refrigerated.I've used it for water and also used it to keep things warm.Mine gets very cold very quick and heats up so quick I had to actually take a bag out because I was afraid it would burn the plastic bag I put in.So I turned it off and it kept the items warm till I got home which was over an hour.As far as cold, I only use an icepack if I'm going to leave stuff in the car for a couple hours.I forgot it one time and left my water in overnight till about 2:00 the next afternoon and the icepack was only melted about halfway.I'd say that's pretty good.

I bought this cooler in preparation for a cross-country roadtrip this coming summer, with a 2-yr-old who loves his milk. I also bought the ac wall adapter (sold separately) so that we could keep the milk safe and cold overnight in a hotel in case there's no mini-fridge in our room. I sure am glad I bought both! Before we even left for our trip, our fridge at home konked out. We had to throw out lots of food, but we were able to keep enough milk cold and fresh for our little guy by keeping it in this cooler. It was plugged in for 48 straight hours, and worked like a champ. Needless to say, the milk was already cold when we put it in there, or it wouldv'e been down the drain for the milk too. Which brings me to this point: nowhere in the literature does the manufacturer claim that this product is a chiller. Of course it won't chill things that are at room temp, that's not what its made for. It won't chill warm water any more than it will cook a cold sandwich. But for the purpose it is advertised, to keep cold things cold, I found it to do a great job. It really came through for us in a pinch.

Item arrive loosely and poorly packed in a modified lightweight cardboard box. While item did have original foam packing, it was badly broken and only secured by additionally added bubble-wrap and I was surprised that it was not secured within a manufactures box and/or packaging. Item did NOT appear to have been damaged in shipment. I was even more disappointed upon closer examination of the item. THIS IS NOT a replacement motor for Whirlpool/Kenmore products!!! Replacements are made in USA exclusively by Whirlpool, pass UL and CSA testing and are warrantied by the manufacture. The item received is an UNAUTHORIZED and ILLEGAL substitution poorly and cheaply made in China!!! IT IS NOT UL NOR CSA APPROVED or TESTED, and obviously has no warranty or manufactures identification!!! Even though this is for personal use and repair, I was VERY reluctant to accept such an item. This CAN NOT and should not be used by repair businesses, authorized or not, due to unknown liability issues. The description DID NOT reflect these important matters and are certainly not worthy of the savings or low cost!!!! Further more, upon installation, it was discovered that motor WAS defective and NOT tested and inspected as noted on sticker. After removal and more though inspection, it was found that motor controller switch WAS NOT to original specifications and resulted in a clicking noise caused by inadequate clearance of controller and motor armature fins. Poor installation and alignment of controller actuating lever also caused premature wear and damage of lever end of controller ON A NEW MOTOR!!!! While armature fins were unevenly machined, it was determined that a small spacing washer under the controller would satisfy clearance AND alignment issues while extending life of controller lever end. After my modifications,testing and acceptance, motor was AGAIN installed and functions acceptably with concerns of quality and lifetime.

The motor came with a sticker that said it had been quality controlled.It runs just fine under "no load" condition.

However, under any load (even an empty tub), the rotor hits the side, and then it overheats and shuts down, in less than 30 seconds.The load is not excessive -the previous motor still runs the same machine just fine.(The previous motor has a worn shaft, and is making noise and getting ready to fail. So I decided to replace it before it actually failed.)

And, the seller does NOT offer refunds -exchange only.And, not after it has been installed and used.So this motor cannot be returned.My time to hassle with a vendor is worth more than the motor anyway.

The replacement motor worked and was much cheaper to buy here then in other websites.There was no problem in mounting or wiring the new motor.

I have owned this for over a year now.When it arrived,it was dented on the bottom.I was able to mend it and I kept it since it was not noticeable once in position.If your room is above 68 degrees,it starts condensating inside and you need wipe out the water every few days.Not what I want to do in the summer months when it is 90 out.This has 2 fans in the back of the unit to cool the coils and 1 dumped after about 2 months.Again I didn't want to lug this out.I took it apart and put a pc case fan in its place.Back up and running and the pc fan cooled just as well which I get to next.This will do fine for drinks,but I get a little worried putting milk and lunch meats in there.I can't say how cool it gets cause I didn't throw a thermometer inside,but it just seems like it could do better.Mind you I have not gotten sick from anything I did keep in there.Keep in mind that this does not have a compressor,it uses peltier technology.

(Yes, this is a big deal. How would you like it if you plunked down $200 only to find your ice cream mix comes out soup or filled with chunky ice cubes?) This machine definitely gets the job done; It makes ice cream.

It is surprisingly quiet.

While you wouldn't want to use it in a library, this machine is actually pretty quiet. Most of us who don't have any experience with an Ice Cream Machine can only relate to the beasts they have at the local Ice-Creameries (You know the ones: Buy One, Get One Free on certain days...) These industrial behemoths are LOUD. This machine (not being an industrial behemoth) is not loud. It **IS** louder than my refrigerator (barely,) but not quite as loud as my washing machine. It's NO WHERE NEAR AS LOUD as a Blender, Food Processor, or Stick Blender (if those are your only gauges of relevance.)

You can make your own concoctions.

Some local ice-creameries will make you a custom blend of ice cream. For example, if you want chocolate chips in some strawberry ice cream, they'll do that. (Probably not nationwide chains, but the local shop might.) But ask them to make anything crazier than that, and you're probably out of luck. Rosewater ice cream? Sorry. Green Tea ice cream? You're probably out of luck.

With this machine, you can make whatever flavors your heart desires, and that's pretty cool. (Just don't save me any Alligator Sherbet, ok?)

Ease of Use / Capacity.

This thing is EASY to use. For example, to make a simple vanilla ice cream, take 2 cups of half-and-half and POUR IT DIRECTLY INTO THE MACHINE'S MIXING BUCKET. DO LIKEWISE WITH 1/2 CUP OF SUGAR. Add a tablespoon of vanilla, and run the machine. About 45 minutes later, you'll have medium soft serve ice cream. NOTE that I do not say "Bring this mixture to a boil," nor do I say "Mix it," nor anything like that. In fact, when I tried this mix, I could even hear the churn running over the grains of sugar in the churning bowl. But, 45 minutes later, nothing but super-fine ice cream.

The other plus side is this machine's capacity. It's nice to be able to make a larger quantity of a mix if the mix is a bit more complicated (ie: a custard, which may require the incorporation of eggs, and possible cooking of the eggs.) This way, you can make a larger batch of mix, followed by a larger batch of ice cream.

It's NOT dishwasher safe!

While I won't say "Cleanup is hard," (there are really only 2 things to clean: the bowl and the beater,) you still can't just toss them into the top rack of your dishwasher to get the job done. You'll also need to wipe off the top plastic cover with a sponge, dishrag, etc... because it's permanently attached to the motor (which doesn't lend itself to easy cleaning.) The same thing holds true if your mix overflows the bowl and gets into the machine itself. (Don't worry, it's easy to clean, but again, you can't put the whole machine into your dishwasher [it's electrical, y'know,] so you'll have to clean it with a sponge or dishrag...) In other words, it would have been nicer if the freezing bowl (into which the mixing bowl sits,) the mixing bowl, the churn, and the plastic cover all been removable and dishwasher safe. They're not, but, to Whynter's credit, they are pretty easy to clean.

The label came off

Petty? Yes. But it's an indicator as to the design of the machine. The label is a stiff label affixed to the rounded "tub" area of the machine. Had the machine been designed with a flat areat onto which the logo could be affixed, the label would still be there. (Mind you, this is "straight out of the box."

Little or No Documentation

The documentation isn't bad (for what there is of it, but there aren't any recipes that come along with it. Also, there's no indicator as to the Maximum Fill Level of the Churn bucket. Overfill it, and you've got an ice cream that won't set properly, or have enough air mixed into it; or worse: ice cream base spilling into the freezing chamber. NOTE: You **CAN** go onto the website and download some recipes, but it would have been GREAT if they would have spent the extra $.38 and printed out some copies of at least a simple vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry mix recipe and thrown it into the box.

"Add-Ins" chute too small

Do you like "Add-Ins" (ie: gelatin-based fruit-flavored candy animals and the like) in your ice cream? Well, you'll need to stop the machine, open the top, add the Add-Ins, then restart the churn (which, ideally, you'd wait 6 minutes for, since the compressor doesn't like to start and stop without a 6 minute breather.) The current model has a chute large enough for sprinkles and MAYBE very small cookie crumbs, but not chocolate chips. Again, not the worst thing in the world, but... hey! You know.

It can be slow

when defrosting the freezer, which is necessary every 2 weeks, a coil for the thermostat came off with the sheet of ice, and now the "warmest" thermostat setting is almost freezing. if i turn the thermostat only 2 notches colder, every beverage is turned to ice.

if you buy this product, be super cautious on the defrosting.

The picture, and product number for this item differ.I bought the item currently listed on this page "Green Filter for Kenmore 46-9990 NSF Certified Refrigerator Water Filter, Cer..." for $27.97.A great price since the product specifications give this product number: "SGF-LB60" which is the version that matches certifications 42 and 53.A great price.However the product I received matched the picture, and is Green Filters other model, LB50.I contacted the seller I bought from, Global Shop Stop and they sent the item I thought I was buying.Thank you Global Shop Stop.Is there functionally a difference, I dont know but I've always had the better of the two filter versions and wanted to stick with that.Both of the green filter products are much less than other options.If you're expecting the stronger filter, I think the only option is to check the price for the two and pick the higher.Hopefully GSS will update this page to show the correct Green Filter product number.

I have a Kenmore Elite refrigerator. The filter number is 469990. I bought this Swift Green filter, and it says it fits my refrigerator on the box, but it doesn't fit. The distributor has an "All Sales are Final" return policy, so if you purchase a filter, BE SURE it is the correct one, or you might be out $35. Plus shipping.

The one I bought won't even make a good door stop.

Doesn't fit as "perfectly" as the OEM filter, but works well.I haven't had any issues with leaking.Overall I'd recommend it especially given the price differential.No noticeable difference in water taste or quality.I will buy it again.

That was disappointing because I really liked the idea of this filter, "Green filter components are produced with a new technology that carbonizes dried coconut shells"... and much cheaper than Sears with the free shipping. Contact with the company resulted in a fast replacement free of charge (I know that should be expected but its always refreshing when it actually happens) . happy to say the new filter works like a champ, no leaks and good water flow.

READ THIS ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A WELL OR REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM:

Owned this for six months now. It's roomy. Has a wide thin storage drawer, which works well for my vegetable and cheese trays. Has two deep veggie/fruit drawers. Jugs of milk easily fit in the doors. It runs quiet except I do notice the sound of ice dropping when the house is quiet, and it resists fingerprints better than most stainless steel.

The one area where I have had trouble is the ice maker. It worked great at first, but after a few months the output diminished, then completely stopped. A repairman came out but he couldn't pinpoint the problem. It started working again anyway. A few months later the problem happened again. I called Frigidaire and mentioned in passing that the water filters through our separate reverse osmosis system before it goes to the ice maker.Ah-ha, said the service department, that's the problem. Water pressure on an osmosis system hovers around 20 psi. The ice maker needs minimum 30 psi to function properly. I also mentioned we're out in the country and have a well. Double-whammy against the ice maker.

For reverse osmosis and/or wells the fridge needs a bypass filter. This replaces the regular standard filter that comes with it. The filters are super easy to change. Just open the fridge door and there it is in the back--top right corner.

The silver lining in this story is once you insert the bypass filter (about $40.00) it never needs replaced. BTW, the regular standard filter (about $40.00) that comes with the fridge needs replaced about every six months. $40.00 once versus $40.00 twice a year--you do the math. My understanding is most makes and model containing ice makers need filters of some kind, so there's no way around it.

I have owned a similar Frigidaire Gallery unit (ice maker in the freezer) for 18 months now and I would NOT purchase this unit, or any similar unit, from Frigidaire again.

Here's the issue I have had the Ice maker replaced once (I'm on my second ice maker) and every so often, the mechanism freezes over. The problem is that the mechanism that fills the ice tray is gravity fed. Something goes wrong, and the ice maker spews water all over the inside of your freezer. And your ice maker... And the large gears that the freezer door relies on to open and close.

So, last night, my freezer door is completely frozen shut. I nearly broke the unit (not to mention my back, legs) trying to get the freezer door open so that I could spend 45 minutes at a really odd angle with a blow dryer trying to melt and chip away at the iceberg that was the left side, back and bottom of this freezer unit.

Unless your masochistic, or just feel like playing a bad joke on someone, stay away.

The Keggermeister Kegerator comes packaged in double "double walled" boxes with a lot of Styrofoam packaging materials and materials. All of the minor components are neatly organized in a separate box inside of the Kegerator fridge. After removing all the pieces and laying them out, I began to read the instruction manual. The manual content is very clear and concise with well illustrated pictures on the assembly of the unit and pieces.The box was undamaged in shipping

Assembly is fairly simple, anyone with basic knowledge of hand tools should have no problem.It takes about 20-30 minutes to get it put together and running, the one thing I would advise any owner is to take your time and learn the pieces of the dispensing system while you assemble it. This is critical in understanding how everything works in order to be able to trouble shoot any issues should they arise.

The unit comes with a 2.5lb C02 tank that I was able to get filled up for less than ten bucks. I recommend a local paint ball shop since they are better equipped to fill this size of tanks up. Welding supply shops also work.

Once everything is assembled and it was plugged in it turned right on and gave a silent hum as if to let me know it was on. Even with the compressor cycling on and off it still maintains a very minimal noise level.

After allowing the refrigerator to operate with no keg in it for 24 hours I decided to give it a test drive.The first keg used was a Full Keg of Budlight. After letting the Keg sit and cool in the Kegerator for another 24 hours it was time for the first pour which resulted in nothing but foam.After doing a bit of trouble shooting I realized I had opened the valve on the C02 tank all the way for max flow. This resulted in over pressurizing the keg. To fix this I closed the valve and adjusted the regulator to having it near closed. I then pulled the pressure release pin on the coupler releasing the built up C02 in the keg.The next glass I poured came out perfectly pure golden bliss with a decent layer of foam.

About 40 minutes layer I tried to fill up a pitcher of beer and was presented with a near perfect pour.This was more than enough of evidence that there was a consistent pressure and was at an optimal level for consistent pouring.

The exterior has a nice black matte finished that goes well with any décor. The chrome guardrail and stainless steel spout add a nice touch to the overall exterior of the unit. Cleanup is easy and was simple with just a bit of standard surface cleaner.I was also able to change out the tap handle with a standard Brewing Company handle.

I ordered this this product three weeks ago and would give this ZERO stars if possible.The first one that shipped (7/19/10) to me had a defective spout that did not lock into place.I called amazon on Tuesday 7/20/10 and they were extremely helpful.Amazon had a new one shipped to me two days later on a Thursday 7/22/10. I Assembled the keggermeister on Friday 7/23/10, plugged it in on Saturday 7/24/10 to see if it worked...and it did!!!On Wednesday 7/28/10, I bought a keg of Dales Pale ale and had the CO2 tank filled and set the kegger to the "med" setting and put a few bottles of beer inside.By Friday 7/30/10 the CO2 tanked was completely empty because there was a leak in the hose, the bottles of beer were completely frozen, and the Dales pale ale tasted stronger then normal.I had the tank refilled on Saturday 7/31/10, replaced the hose, and turned the kegger all the way down to min.On Sunday 8/1/10, I went to go and get a beer and nothing came out...I thought that was kind of strange so I unhooked the keg to see if it was tapped and it seemed there was no beer left but still on the heavy side...so i left it outside and turned the kegger off.On Monday night 8/2/10 when I got home from work, I wanted to go and return the keg at the liqueur store, but when I picked it up, there was still beer...and ICE in it.So on the lowest setting on the kegger froze my beer!Today is Tuesday 8/3/10 and I am going to contact Amazon and return the keg.DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!

I bought the stainless version despite the negative reviews and I'm happy I did. I unpackaged the kegerator, which was a challenge because there was about 4 layers of cardboard/padding protecting it, and let it sit unplugged for about 12 hours since it was laid on its back. Read the directions, which dont give the best pictures but there are also some great vids on youtube, and had everything assembled within an hour. Came with a dual pressure regulator even though the directions show one, which is a huge plus. Comes with doubles of ALL O-rings and small parts

But you get what you pay for -

Tap on tower doesnt stick straight out at you (might be a fluke on mine. Its about a 4:00 spot)

Tower wont spin and lock if rubber gasket is used. Not a problem but it the principle of the matter

Max Cool temp is about 42*F

I'm happy with it and for less than $500 shipped to your door its a hard bargain to turn away

I would give this zero stars if possible, this kegerator doesn't get below 40 degrees even on the max setting. My first keg i bought was a five gallon keg, half of it was easily wasted because of foam, then a few days later out of the blue i start getting perfect pours. I didn't adjust ANYTHING i had a glass of water at the bottom of the kegerator with a thermometer in it and it was still at 40 degrees, so i know that the temp inside didnt change. the psi was the same as well (according to the regulator that comes with the unit)So when i finished my first keg i bought my second one, waited 24 hours before using it and still got 100% foam, i have adjusted the co2 pressure numerous times, i cleaned the lines before i put my second keg in, yet the best pour i ever got was about 2/3s foam. The faucet on the tower is now loose as well and falling out of the tower. The keg coupler also leaks CO2 out of the pressure relief valve, causing my CO2 tank to last about a 1/3 as long as it should. There is nothing good i can say about this kegerator. Also when it first arrived the fridge door fell off, and the vinyl part on top of the kegerator hung down so low that it would prevent the door from closing, I had to stick pieces of cardboard under it so that the door could shut! This is just a kegerator with inferior parts. Waste of my money, I am now going to have to pay to replace the tower, faucet, lines, regulator, and buy an external temperature control that will override the kegerators thermostat so that the unit can get cold enough. I couldn't regret this purchase more.
