1 year update: still looks and works great....

...since this replaced a 17+ year old General Electric unit that hasn't missed a beat since day one (and continues to serve in the garage). So the bar is set high for long-term reliability: it needs to meet the "zero service calls in 17 years" standard to compete with the unit it replaced!

Pros:

-Appearance: sleek stainless front (non-magnetic...this will cut down on some of our visual kitchen clutter!) and grey sides. The stainless will show fingerprints, so be aware if kids are frequent users.

-French (dual) door refrigerator area. Doors can be opened separately if you know what side your stuff is on.

-Two produce drawers with independently adjustable humidity controls.

-Full width "pantry drawer" with separately adjustable temperature control. Accommodates a deli tray, a pizza box (a Domino's large box fits easily) or whatever.

-Left door exterior has an ice maker (cubed or crushed) and chilled water dispenser.

-Quiet operation.

-Easy to use LED control panel for ice, water and temperature options; also provides notification of water filter status.

-Good volume (23 cubic feet) in a smaller "counter depth" footprint (although it still extends approximately 3" beyond our the edge of our counters).

Cons:

Please note that these aren't inherently issues with *this* refrigerator, but things to consider if your kitchen is smaller or house is older.

-Water line access. Our old refrigerator did not have an ice maker, so the ease (or *not*) of running a water line to it was not an issue. It became one when it came time to prepare the kitchen for the arrival of this unit. Our cabinetry did not allow easy access from the kitchen sink supply, and access in the basement was restricted by finishing work completed several years ago. If you don't already have an established relationship with a reliable plumber: you'll want to get one! You'll also want to add something extra to your budget if yours is going to placed where there isn't already a water line.

-Height: although this is "counter depth", it is a very tall machine. It's 67 7/8" overall (for the hinge enclosures) and 69 1/8" from the hinge enclosures to the rear of the machine. This did NOT provide clearance under our existing cabinets, so the installer had to remove the cabinet and trim the bottom. As with our old refrigerator, the two-door cabinet directly overhead is essentially lost for use. In addition, the hinge enclosures on this extend more than six inches back...even though there is clearance under the cabinet, there is not enough room for the cabinet doors to clear the hinges. Similarly, between the overhang of the cabinet and the extent of the hinge enclosures: forget about putting anything on top of this refrigerator if its under a cabinet. We made our purchase from a local appliance store. They were happy to remove, trim and reinstall the cabinet. They were also happy to take a separate check for this service. Again: not a problem with the refrigerator, but a consideration for your upgrade planning...and your budget.

-Water filters: Samsung replacement water filters are rated for about 300 gallons or six months of service. At around $30 apiece, you'll be spending an additional $60/year for consumables (in addition to the energy costs).

-Energy: this refrigerator ranks at the upper range of ENERGY STAR ratings for similar sized units: electricity estimates for this unit are 537 KHW/year in a class of refrigerators that consume from 457 to 539 KHW. While it comes at at 20% under the Energy Star standard (673 KHW), I'd suggest that any long term savings from its Energy Star certification will likely be offset by the cost of water filter replacement. This also is not a direct complaint about the refrigerator, but something to plan for in its ownership life cycle.

Nice looking, full featured...assuming it works without problems over the long haul, a nice piece of work from Samsung.

We needed a cabinet depth refrigerator with ice and water through the door, preferably a french door model. Samsung makes the largest for this price. Electrolux has some but they are much pricier and do not have the rep for reliability. We bought ours locally from an appliance dealer during Columbus day weekend. Just had it delivered January 5th. We got it earlier than needed for the price and the dealer had no problem holding it for us.

Since plugging it in it has worked flawlessly. Keeps the freezer and refrigerator temps where set. Water out the door is cold and has a good taste due to the filter. Makes a lot of ice. No problem in that regard. Runs almost silently. the stainless front panel is beautiful.

We moved down in size from a Kitchen Aid 27 cubit foot side by side so there were some adjustments. On the cabinet depth models that are 36" wide you don't get as much door storage as you would like but that is not a fault of the machine. Just a fact.Something you need to consider.

Update 7/21/2012:

After a year and a half still working flawlessly. So quiet I don;t even know it's running. For just the two of us it is a perfect size. If you have a larger family a counter depth may not be large enough. Keeps the temps just right. Can't say enough about how good this machine has been.

We bought this fridge in March 2010.I did an enormous amount of research before deciding on this model, went and looked at the floor models in department stores, and decided on this one because it's stylish, counterdepth, and had good reviews. It has worked without a problem since installation. We bought it on line for the best price we could find (about $1800 including shipping and handling and tax).No problems with the dispenser (although bigger jugs don't fit), and it can hold quite a lot of stuff of all shapes and sizes. In the heat of the summer, it doesn't make enough ice, so I just dispense and freeze ice when I remember to have some on hand for big pitchers of iced water.Very happy with it.

Update December 2011

Well, we've had the fridge for 21 months now.We haven't had any issues with it at all.All bits and bobs are still functioning, nothing is broken.

My only grumble would be that it's not configured for a large number of tall items (milk jugs etc).I have to move a few things around to usually get a pizza box in but it does fit in!Still very happy with it

Update MArch 2013

Still works, nothing wrong, nothing broken. No issues, no repairs.Had for three years now.

Purchased this refrigerator aproximately three months ago.The refrigerator was installed into a custom designed cabinet specifically for this model. At the time of installation the french doors would not align properly and the compressor was exceedingly loud.I contacted Samsungwho authorized a service call. The service technician could not align the doors because the entire refrigeratorexterior was mis-manufactured.The technician took pictures and measurements and sent them back to Samsung.to validate his observations.Samsung's response was to declare my warranty invalid, refuse to fix the refrigerator and close off any further communication. The final words from the the supervisor in Executive Customer Relations was that she was the final say, the ultimate authority and that there is no further recourse within Samsung.Needless to say I am headed to court.

Pros It does make cold air and have pretty blue lights.

Cons Non-existent customer service

Extremely loud when ice drops into the hold area from the icemaker

Interior configuration limits the amount of items that can be easily placed into and accessed

Compressor extremely loud (at least on mine)

We bought this Samsung refrigerator a few years ago due to its nice features and design. Since then it leaked and ruined our hardwood floors, the ice maker is not working properly and ice is forming in the back causing the cooling fan to make noises. My dad bought the same fridge and their ice maker quit working. Wow. No more Samsung for us.

Green Filter for Samsung DA61-00159A-B NSF Certified Refrigerator Water Filte...

Green Filter for Samsung DA61-00159A-B NSF Certified Refrigerator Water Filte...I am really liking the green filter. It connects to the input on the fridge easily, isn't any more or less heavy, is the same size as the oem model from samsung, but the bonus is the recyclability! The oem filters have to be thrown in the trash instead of recycled...it's a large item! So happy this can go in my blue bin in 6 months.

NO STARS !!! amazon making me rate the item, so i gave it one star when i believe that there shouldnt be any. please listen to me and DO NOT BUY!

This unit was OK for a while, then started making noise and eventually died before it was even 4 years old. OK if you want something cheap for the short haul.

I bought this product as a christmas gift for my sister and her boyfriend, and they love it!! If they are happy then I am happy. So it was a job well done, for the price of the product and happiness, it was well worth it. :)

I have had this fridge for over a year. I returned it once for replacement. This fridge WILL NOT get below 50 degrees inside (using a digital thermometer) regardless what you do to the temp setting, location or outside environment. I have never been so disappointed in a can fridge in my life. I put a Coors light bottle in it for a week without opening it and the "mountains are not even close to turning blue". Buy something else, I did.

We bought a Bosch fridge 2 weeks ago after our 9 yr old Maytag fridge stopped working.NEVER buy a side by side Maytag fridge!!NOTHING but trouble 2 weeks after the 1 yr warranty was up.Compressor finally quit after 9 years, lost 100's of dollars in food, paid $100 to fix the fridge every 6 months.

Anyways, purchased a Bosch B26ft fridge w/french doors & water dispenser/ice maker.First of all, it is clean and beautiful in our kitchen. There is a lot of space for various sizes and shapes of food and food container.Maintains constant temperature with little fluctuation.I LOVE the water dispenser and ice maker. We had this in our other fridge, but the ice and water always had a background taste. The bottom mount freezer is fantastic.Very easy to organize items and therefore, you can store much more.

The only possible down side is that the exterior is easily fingerprinted/smudged.Considering the use of a fridge is to keep food stored properly, I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase.I will update my review after 1 year.

I purchased the Bosch refrigerator when the previous fridge died. It had the fewest on-line complaints and was actually made in the U.S. rather than Mexico. While it's really too soon to actually rate this refrigerator because I only just got it a week ago, here are some things that i've found:

1. The stainless steel isn't actually stainless so fridge magnets will stick.

2. The stainless look is on the doors only, sides are dark brown.

3. The ice maker makes plenty of ice.

4. The water line for the dispenser freezes often so no water comes out. (This doesn't seem to affect the ice maker though.) Don't set the controls below the settings shown in the manual. If your kitchen is cool the fridge temperature may have to be increased.

5. The produce and deli drawers take up a lot of room. So tall bottles aren't able to stand up. Also if you don't purchase mostly produce you'll be surprised at how little room is left over.

6. Both doors must be open to access any of the compartments.

7. The warning beeper sounds for about five (very long) minutes after you shut the door (if you've left it open too long). This is quite annoying.

8. The Sears installers will scratch the doors putting the handles on. (They don't level the fridge either.)

9. Six 12-pack cases of cans fit just right with no wasted space.

10. There is no positive indication that you've pressed any of the buttons and the mode selected is sometimes not clear.

11. It's very quiet.

12. The display shows only the settings. A thermometer(s) will still be needed to know what the inside temperature is.

13. Everything inside is very well lit.

I purchased this from Sears with good discount. I was happy with the cost. It was scheduled for delivery after 20 days. I was nervous investing that much on a refrigerator. But when Sears folks delivered and installed it well, and I was not disappointed.

PROS:

1-Looks, it makes your kitchen a lot more sellable. Ready for HGTV?

2-Inside is roomy

3-Well lit

4-Ice and water outlet is flat and looks very modern. It is touch sensitive, not push sensitive. Just touch onto the buttons, they come off.

5-Water coming out of the dispenser is filtered and has very pleasant taste. Filter is inside the frig easy to access. It is very small, won't take space.

6-Flexible interior adjustment: you can move few thing around, and fit a Heineken keg easily.

7-temperature separated sections: Upper part has 3 temperature separated sections.a-Regular larger section b)vegetables section which keep veggies moist and cooler c) deli section, which keeps meat coolest.

8-Freezer is roomy with one large bottom section, and one drawer to put boxy stuff in orderly manner.

9-External light is pleasantly lit and ambient: yet to find a way to keep it lit nonstop, but blue water-ice outlet light is very nice in dark.

10-The Ice maker does not take the entire inside section of the right door where ice dispense is located outside. It is so well designed that you can still use the inside shelf located in front of the dispenser part of the fridge. most of the other brands use the dedicate that section for ice machine.

11-Best buy for a luxury frig under $2,500.

CONS:

If any..

1Due to nature of french-doors, the doors do not self close, Therefore, you have to give a light push to ensure that the doors close, which outlines the alarm issue many users are complaining about. But, if you close the doors properly, alarm will not sound, period. So, close the doors.:)

2-A bit pricier than average regular frig, but this is not an average frig. This is a Bosch and this model cost twice as much in Europe.

3Stainless steel stains, but this is the nature of the stainless steel. If this is a concern for you, avoid stainless steel fridges.

VERDICT:

BUY IT !!!!

This is a Great Fridge with a slight design problem on the ice maker. If your ice maker stop working, the reason for it is not that it broke but rather it just somehow froze in so the moving parts stop moving!

Do the following: physicallyremove the ice maker from the refrigerator for about 1 1/2 hour. It will give it a chance to defrost it. Pour out the remainder of the water from the plastic housing re install the ice-maker as it was and here you go! It will work again! Try this! It will work! It work for me! I had the repair man replace the unit under warranty and after the nonworking unit melted out it worked again! Little inconvenience but it will work and it is free!!!!!!

We have had this fridg for a month now and we love it with the exception of two things:

The ice maker CAN NOT KEEP UP with a weekend full of iced down drinks. The receptable holder is very small and after a morning of cokes and dp's it's empty! And it takes forever to fill up again.A real flaw for a product that costs this much.

Also, the alarm is a bit of a pain. It seems to go off in a hap-hazzard mode.Sometimes it waits the full minute when the door is open to chime.Other times you can just walk into the room and open the door to get out butter and it goes off.I find that annoying actually.

Otherwise, it's definitely state of the art.Lots of room and adjustable shelves and it's very classy looking and would jazz up any kitchen. We didn't need a new fridg, we are just upgrading and we kept our old Amana as well, for the garage. We are going to need the ice from that ice maker, I assure you.But I definitely would recommend buying this product if you really need the "french door" type of fridg to make it work.So much more "high end" than most of the national brands, and much better looking, inside and out.We also purchased their induction cooktop, which we hope we live long enough to have delivered NOT broken. So far we have returned three due to the glass being broken when in shipping!
