I took a chance that this was indeed the right filter for the Pureair fliter housing in my Frigidaire, despite the description and the picture.The filters I received have the removable panel on one side.The actual dimensions of the filter are 4 7/8" x 6 3/4" x 1/2".The advertised dimensions must be for the box in which the two filters are packaged.The part number is Electrolux #242047801, which turned out to be the exact replacment for my old filter.When it comes time for replacement, I'll buy from these folks again.Just wish they would update the product information.

not sure if it was this or the starter that was out on my refrigerator,capacitor was not within tolerance when tested with a multimeter. but when i shook the old starter it seemed to sound like something was rattling around in there, so could have been both...I think either one of these burning out could have been from the extreme amount of pet hair and buildup of heat around them, could have also been from accidentally leaving the freezer door juuust cracked open overnight and the constant cycling on and off may have burnt them out (i remember them going out not too long after this)

Sure beats having to pay a technician to come and fix it when it is a very simple thing to do

I love my Kitchenaid fridge. I use the produce drawer a lot, which saves on energy use because I don't open the doors for the frequent use items like fruits, vegies, yogurt, canned cat food, and probiotic vitamins. Plenty of space in the French door compartment, and the freezer drawer is huge. Never short on ice. I have had this fridge for six months with no issues. I've never noticed excess noise. The person who wrote the bad review must've gotten one with a problem because this fridge is not noisy by nature. Hardware can and does come from the factory flawed now and then it seems like if the buyer wasn't happy he could return it or have it fixed. This is a good looking appliance, too.

I purchased mine at Sears Outlet scratch and dent for $1000.00. Folks, this is the way to buy appliances in my opinion. Mine has a dent in the side that doesn't show because it's recessed. Big deal...a dent at the bottom about 4 inches long hidden away.

Anyway, on to the good stuff.The produce drawer is great. The shelving on the left side of the door is wasteful. It's one of those things where you look at it sideways and use your imagination...I use it to stash sticks of butter. The frig is roomy. The water filter replacement is handy and easy to do. Never seems to run out of ice. The freezer is deep and holds a lot of items.

I've not had the experience with the noise but it does sound like a fax machine whenever it fills the ice trays. It's humorous actually...the frig sounds like a fax is coming through at any moment. That's only a couple of seconds so it's no big deal.

For $1000 at the Sears Outlet center I am more than satisfied.

Love this fridge.It hold alot of food and we have not had the problems with the noise.All refriderators make some kind of noise and this one is no loader than any other.We love the way it tells you have many ounces of water you are using.All of these new refriderators have smaller ice makers than in the past but this one keeps up pretty good.If you are going to have a party, buy some bags of ice but we have a family of four and we do not have a problem with how fast this makes ice.Overall, it looks great and works great.The whirlpool refridge is very similiar but just not as fancy on the inside but this kitchenaid has a much longer warrenty on the compressor than the whirlpool.

The refrigeraor looks good but it does not sound good. The compressor and fan run 80% of the time and are loud. It is very annoying. It appears KitchenAid has stop making its "Whisper Quiet Compressor System." What a mistake I made buying this.

I have had this refridgerator for six weeks. Two sound modules have gone out.(The alarm for the door).

The front has rust streaks on the bottom drawer and both upper doors.

Kitchen aid denies any responsiblility for the rust as " cosmetics are only covered for the first 30 days."

What a disappointment this is, a huge waste of money.

As far as "stainless" goesgood quality stainless steel will not hold a magnet. Magnets do stick.

This is a poor excuse for a refridgerator for a lot of money.

Cuisinart DGB-625BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Metal

I had an earlier version of the 10-cup Cuisinart Grind and Brew that lasted more than 3 years.It made an awesome pot of coffee.I read online reviews of this and similar grind and brews from Cuisinart that made me nervous that I wouldn't get as good a product as I had last time.I looked closely at other brands and other versions of grind and brews and decided based on my own experience with the last one I bought, I'd give this model a shot.So far I have not had any problems that other people have mentioned.Yes, there are more parts to take apart, clean and put back together than a regular coffee maker.But the superior taste of the coffee you get from the grind and brew is absolutely worth the extra couple minutes of prep time it takes.Besides, I was used to it from the previous model I owned.So that is not an issue.I read other reviews about the hinge not closing or popping open during the brew cycle, or leaking.I have not had ANY of those issues.NOTE:One reviewer said to read ALL the instructions carefully and follow the directions and that's what I did.Most important thing to remember here is you have to be sure to keep the handle of the gold filter basket facing the front of the coffee maker. Last I saw some reviewers complain of the noise as it grinds the coffee beans.This version of the grind and brew is noticeably more quiet than the last one I had, so no issue there either.All in all, I am VERY glad I purchased this product.I love it!

A very nice, straightforward coffemaker, makes good coffee with pre-ground beans, can be programmed to start when you want. A nice feature is that it can also be programmed to shut down when you want -either right after brewing or up to 2 hours later. A bit on the noisy side, even without the grinder function on. Initial setup is easy. Please note that if you do not close *and latch* thereservoir cover, the machine will beep constantly and not brew until you do. Drove me crazy for about 15 minutes until I noticed that the cover wasn't fully latched. Although it does tell you that in the instruction manual, it's not immediately evident -it's a line in the middle of lengthy instruction under #6 "Close Reservoir Lid", on page 8.

Update on Feb. 1, 2010

It was a learning curve to figure out how many scoops of whole beans to add for a good cup of coffee. A small scoop is included, with instructions to use one scoop per cup. However, the grind on this machine is fairly coarse, so it comes out a bit weaker than I'm used to. Adding a bit more each time took me over the top to "bitter," so it's hard to find a balance. I'm afraid I enjoy pre-ground coffee in this coffeemaker more than whole-bean.

Bought this unit for my wife for Christmas 2009. Liked the idea of a combo grinder and coffee maker. $100 at World Market, Houston. Get it cheaper now.

1. Also bought the gold filter basket (no brainer).

2. The unit makes great coffee.

3. The grinder is very loud. Loud enough to wake the household at 5am. I now purchase ground coffee and don't use the grinder in the coffee maker.

4. The filter basket sits in a swing out holder that is spring-loaded. There is a "release" button on the side of the unit. The door tends to pop open at very inopportune times, including while the coffee is brewing. This is an unacceptable glitch in the design. This gets the unit a 3-star rating from me.

I'm in the process of getting a replacement unit from Cuisinart. Even for $50, not worth the mess.

I am very pleasantly surprised by this machine.It replaced a 3 year-old Cuisinart grind-and-brew that just stopped working one morning.I intended to buy one of the expensive burr-grinder models from Capresso when I found this one on clearance at a warehouse club for fifty dollars.I figured for a quarter of the price of the Capresso it was worth a shot if I didn't like it I could always take it back.I am so happy that I tried it!

Compared to my old Cuisinart this one is much, much quieter.Don't get me wrong, it's still loud, but it's more like the sound of a truck driving by while my old one sounded like a jet engine taking off.I attribute the quietness to the much thicker grinding chamber on this model.I think it holds in place better, reducing the vibration noise.Maybe a burr grinder model would be quieter; I don't know.The burr grinders I have used make noise at a lower frequency so they sound different, but not necessarily quieter.

The coffee tastes great!The warming plate / glass carafe keeps the coffee hot enough for my taste.Might not be hot enough for some I don't like my coffee scalding hot.The grounds in the basket get well saturated during the brewing process, so you don't have to use an excessive amount of coffee beans to get a strong pot.

The only drawback is the need to clean the machine after each use.I'm used to it, because my old Cuisinart was the same way, but I can see the attraction of a burr grinder model that you don't have to constantly wash.The cleaning process is easy.Everything pops out easily and cleans up quickly, but there are several parts that have to be washed.The instructions say you can run the parts through the dishwasher, but when I did that with my old Cuisinart the plastic eventually developed a white residue that took a while to scrub off so I'm not going to use the dishwasher with this model.

Overall I am very happy with this purchase.It is inexpensive, relatively quiet, has good programming features, and makes a good pot of coffee.Having a 12-cup capacity is great!

AquaFresh WF285 Refrigerator Replacement Filter

We purchased this filter (AquaFresh WF285) from another online retailer as a less expensive alternative to our Whirlpool brand filter. Bad choice.

Immediately after installing it we noticed it was producing lots of very tiny black particles of debris in the water, even though we had run the recommended 2 quarts of water through it. Long story short, over 30 minutes and 20 quarts of water later, the water was still filled with these very small carbon pieces, almost like black dust.

We removed it and put our Whirlpool brand filter back in, and within 4 quarts the debris started to go away, and after 6 quarts the water was running clean again.

So, we assumed that we must have simply received a defective filter. Not so.

We contacted the online retailer and they sent us a new one in exchange, and the new one gave us the same exact results. We ran gallon after gallon of water through it (thoroughly rinsing the jug between fills to make sure we weren't seeing lingering remnant debris), and still the second replacement WF285 kept producing water filled with black carbon dust.

However, you do need a keen eye to notice it so I'm guessing that's why we haven't found other negative reviews of the product yet. We believe it's likely that most people simply don't notice the carbon dust after a few quarts because it's so fine, and I'm willing to bet that a lot of people are drinking some carbon-dusty water right now because they've never taken a close look at their water after using this.

If you have this product, fill a white (or very light) colored bowl or juice jug with it and let it sit for a few seconds and watch it under good lighting. You will notice that as the water settles the carbon dust begins to rise to the top and swirl together, making it more visible for people with poor eyesight.

We've switched back to the actual Whirlpool brand and our fridge water is perfectly clean again. Too bad, we were really hoping to save some money because the Whirlpool filters are so much more expensive, but it's totally not worth drinking nasty water from poorly made filters to save a lousy 10 bucks. This experience has us back to buying filters direct from Whirlpool now at a premium. Major bummer.

I have purchased 3 of these filters for my fridge.The first time I purchased 2 at one time so I could have a backup.1 day after installing the first one, the plastic part of the filter broke and water QUICKLY started leaking from the filter onto the floor.I figured it was just a 1 in a million thing and put the other filter in.It worked fine for the 3 months until my little light told me it was time to order a new one.I ordered one and replaced the filter.One week later, pop, the plastic seal broke yet again and water again was all over my floor.I was very, very lucky to be at home and in the kitchen BOTH times they broke, otherwise I would have come home to a flooded house as the water comes out at full force.I would recommend spending the extra money for a different filter.I know I will from now on.........

Like DigitalMan's review, I too decided to try to save some money and get the cheaper AquaFresh brand filter.I ordered a 3-pack in October 2008 from another online vendor for about $76 (about the cost of 2 by Pur).I also noticed the black particulates (maybe charcoal?) when installing the first filter.I ran several gallons of water through it (much more than is recommended) and it seemed to clear up, although I forgot to check later on.Today, I installed the second one and I'm not going to try the third.I must have run about 4 gallons of water through the line.After noticing some particulates in the water of the large gallon pitcher I was using, I switched between tap water and the refrigerator multiple times using a wine glass, allowing for the air bubbles to clear out.The tap water was clear, but the water coming from the Aquafresh filter had black particulates and a few white fibers as well.It may not be harmful (who knows), but the Kenmore/Pur brand filters I used before never had that problem.I'm going to order the more expensive brand filters again and will drink pure Schuylkill Punch (what we call the tap water in southeastern Pennsylvania) until the new filters come.I still believe that many times you CAN save money by shopping around for a cheaper brand with equal or better quality, but in this case that's not my experience which is why I'm taking the time to write this review.

My Kenmore refrigerator said it was time for a new filter, and I was at the end of a two pack that I had bought a bit over a year ago, so I was looking here for the best deal. I considered these AquaFresh filters, but then was put off by the negative reviews and I ended up buying the genuine Whirlpool 4396510P filters instead (the one that removes smaller particles and cysts). They arrived today and I swapped out the filter, and it turned out that this AquaFresh filter was the filter I was replacing. I have used the two-pack for over a year (my fridge keeps track of water flow, so it's sometimes more than six months between replacements) and I have to say that I was perfectly happy with them.

They both ran clear from the start and the water tasted clean and fresh throughout their lives. If I had realized that this was the brand I was already using, I would have gone ahead and bought it again. All this discussion got me wondering about any other difference between the two, so I went out to their web site just now to see if it was doing the same job of filtering as the high-end Whirlpool one. I've posted their claims of removal below, and they are comparable to those of the Whirlpool. Take these numbers with some caution, though, because they acknowledge that these are 'internal' results. They shouldn't carry the weight of results verified by an independent lab. Anyway, maybe I just got lucky, but my experience was all good.
