I used this as a replacement for a built-in refrigerator on a boat. The RV/Boat replacement refrigerator was $700. Ok... with the Avanti, no ice. But $500+ price difference buys a lot of ice! The RV/Boat refrigerator did have an transfer switch that allow for automatic AC to DC transfer when the AC was shut off. I don't mind doing it manually for the 10% of the time where I need to use DC. Lastly, the Avanti documentation clearly states that the unit should not be placed in a confined space and proper air flow is required. There seems to be enough space around the unit where I built it in so that the heat is dissipated. Inside temperature seems to be consistently 38 degrees. Highly recommend the Avanti 1.7 Cu. Ft.
