I have no problem with this over the past several years. After changing the filter, you must reset theFilter Change Indicator Light by simultaneously pressing and holding the "light" and "lock" buttons until the filter lamp begins blinking.Release pads and the lamp turns off. Indicator is now reset.

Maytag "change filter" lights are not automatic you have to manually reset the light. So long as the filter fits into the filter well, doesn't leak, and water flows to the dispenser it is working. You can download missing owners manuals from www.maytag.com.

These great filters. So much easier then the bad old
days when the filters was behind the refridge., and
was in line and was a mess to change.
The problems that the one of the previous users
was reporting can be avoided by checking the manual
for your fridge for reseting the warning light. It's easy,
once you know how to do it.
And even if you never get the little red light to go out
the filters come with date stickers so you can be reminded
when it's time to change the filter. Add to that the ease
of installation and the effect filtering and you get a product
that functions very well.

I purchased a new home in august that came with a fridge that used one of these filters. I noticed when I would get water from the fridge water dispensers it would always taste metallic. Then one day the change filter light came on so I bought one of these filters and now the water from the fridge tastes great. These things really do work! They are easy to install as well.
My frost free Kenmore refrigerator/freezer would frost over solid every two weeks or so. The food in the freezer would start to thaw and the fridge would start getting warm. After some lengthy research, I was able to narrow the trouble to 1 of 3 things, the defrost timer (cheapest repair), defrost control board, and heater element (least likely to break). I first replaced the defrost timer. 2 weeks later the freezer frosted solid again. I then ordered the defrost control board from Amazon. The part arrived 4 days later. I immediately replaced it and 6 hours later the freezer started to defrost. It's been over a week and now the freezer is working like it did when it was brand new.
