My GE frig stopped making ice and dispensing cold water. I replaced the filter but that made no difference. The water would take 30 seconds to a minute before any came out. It finally stopped altogether. I decided to replace the valve assembly and ordered one from Amazon.For $55, it was a great price. Other retailers charge as much as $80 or more. Shipping was fast and free.Replacing the assembly was fairly simple. The only problem was the plastic bracket over the input. It interfered with installing thevalve assembly. My old assembly had a much smaller bracket. Ended up cutting it away with a wire cutter. Be sure to label the wire connectors and hoses as you remove them from the old assembly so you can replace them correctly on the new assembly. I simply removed each connector or hose from the old assembly and placed it on the new assembly.
I also had poor water flow due to the needle valve assembly where I connected to the water supply in my basement. The needle valve had become corroded with lime scale build up.I scrapped it down and cleaned out any remaining build up to get the water flowing again. I'll replace the needle valve assembly when I have time.
It's great to have water and ice again and not pay the repairman $300 or more for the house call.

Filter arrived today and it's identical to the one that came from Sears with the Kenmore Elite refrigerator. We replaced the orginial after the recommended 6 months but it really could wait for 1 year in our fridge. It's basically just a charcoal filter that absorbs the odors. (We're not big fish eaters) The packing left a little to be desired. It was just the filter thrown in a large box. No plastic wrap or even a packing slip. Received the item quickly and efficiently. It was the correct model. Packaging was a little odd but got the job done (it was shipped inside mailer envelope with no invoice and no instructions).

My only complaint is about the cost, especially since this filter is *supposed* to be replaced every 6 months.The price ($14.62) seems excessive, but this was the going rate no matter where I tried to get it from, including LG (I've noticed the price has gone up a little since I purchased). It is just a little plastic frame with some thin mesh and I presume some activated charcoal inside.Why does it cost SO much?!!Since we never have any dairy, meat or fish in our fridge, it probably does not need to be replaced so often.

Possibly Frigidaire has remedied the issue by now, but ours would build up ice in the defrost drain tray and eventually require a manual defrost.The solution was cheap and simple, insulate the metal shield which covers the defrost drain area to allow the defrost heater to work properly.I used some foil bubble material expressly for this purpose, and affixed it to both sides of the shield.Unfortunately, Frigidaire tech support did not have a clue, and suggested to move the defrost drain "trap" closer to where it exits on the rear. This was NOT an effective fix!Otherwise a great heavy-duty appliance with no fancy computer-board driven controls to go bad.Also be aware this is designed for a commercial setting, i.e. not all that silent as the typical domestic home refrigerator or freezer.BTW, the Amazon description is incorrect, this is a freezer, not a refrigerator.
