I bought this product hoping to save a few bucks, go green, and also because my local Sears was out of stock of my particular filter.I followed the instructions, including the instruction to soak the filter in water for 15-20 mins before installing which seemed extremely odd to me.

I found that the filter did not "easily" install, took quite a bit more effort than the standard Sears/Kenmore brand filter.Thankfully I did not damage my refridgerator.

As you normally would (to release trapped air), I ran water through the system after installing the new filter and was not happy to find that the water coming out of my fridge was black!I ran approximately 1+ gallons of water through the system and the color of the water lightened up a bit, but was still a very dark color.Needless to say, I removed the filter and reinstalled the previous Kenmore brand filter, ran a few gallons throught the system and was happy to see the water color return to normal.

One positive aspect of this entire ordeal was the return process.DeepDiscountsco had no issues accepting the return and refunded the full amount I originally paid.They also refunded my return shipping.Gave the extra 2nd star as a credit to their very friendly returns people.

I bought this based soley on price.While it states compatable with 9990 style filters, this does not fit in my fridge, and while installing, damaged the receiver, requiring an visit from the repairman.I thought I was going to save some money.I shall only buy these parts from the Sears store from now on.

I found the filter every bit as good as the more expensive unit sold by Sears and much more economical!

The design is the same as the more expensive one and it lasts just as long!!

This container was installed via instructions given by the manufacturer.My whole family noticed a plastic taste in the water, which wasn't noticed until after this device was installed.Stick with the carbon filters if you enjoy drinking good quailty water.This device didn't work for me!I should have returned item for a refund.
