I gave this 4 stars because the product works very well.I bought it because I needed something inexpensive that didn't require a lot of energy and the idea of heating my lunch in the case I refrigerated it in was attractive.Firstly, it is very roomy.The size is more than adequate for my drinks, lunch and snacks.Secondly, it cools fast and gets really cold after a few hours, even if you used it to heat before you went to cool mode.It gets so cold that I turned it off so it wouldn't freeze my lonely apple inside.I didn't leave my lunch in it for long...maybe 20 minutes...(I went from cold to hot) and it was warm. It wasn't hot but warm. Not bad for 20 minutes. Then I flipped it back to cold and it chilled quickly, at which time I loaded my still cool drinks back in it.I wasn't happy with it the first day but that's because my switch is defective and I didn't realize it. I have to jam it up pretty hard to get it to engage and get the cold to turn on but the heat works easily.The first day, I was disappointed that it barely kept my cold foods cool but I figured you get what you pay for.When I figured out what the problem was, I got it working and it really functioned well.I didn't subtract any stars for that because it is likely my defect is a fluke and it was my fault that I disposed of the box before figuring out that the thing wasn't even close to what I should expect.
The one star discount is because it has not been exposed to sunlight or any cleaners harsher than water and yet the bottom part of the ball has already begun to turn an off white while the top remains absolute white.I'm assuming it is decorative because people who want this style want it to look nice. Therefore, it seemed only fair to subtract for the loss of true coloring only two days into use.
Overall, though, if you get one that doesn't have a defective switch, you should be very happy with the performance of this little fridge/heater.
