First, let me say that I'm a huge fan of most Samsung products.I have owned multiple Samsung cell phones, TVs, monitors, computers, and other products.I have heard the praises on Samsung washers and dryers. All of that led me to buy the RF217ACRS (or RF217ACPN) refrigerator. Its size was perfect for the kitchen I had and at first glance I thought it was a good appliance.

Within two weeks of having it delivered the refrigerator and freezer was intermittent. The freezer temperatures varied greatly and I ended up with a freezer of melted ice cream and thawed out products.I used manual thermometers in both the refrigerator and freezer and quickly learned that it hardly ever kept the temperatures that were displaying on its digital readings. The manual thermometers were placed at different areas and it still never matched. The freezer would be at -25 degrees one moment and +30 degrees the next, all the while the digital gauge on the unit said it was -2 or 0.Frost was constantly melting and refreezing.

Thankfully, the store agreed to pick up this unit and deliver a replacement.Thinking I got a lemon, I just got another Samsung RF217ACRS.Within another month, the replacement unit (completely new, although same model) was doing the same thing. The store agreed to replace it again and I then quickly switched brands. After ditching Samsung, I'm happy to say that I'm thrilled.I now have a refrigerator that cools and a freezer that freezes, but it is NOT a Samsung. It's amazing how happy a customer can be when an appliance does what it is supposed to.

Now, even if you decide to buy the RF217ACRS (or RF217ACPN) after reading about the problems I had, let me tell you about the features of the refrigerator. The stainless steel finish is nice and the EZ Open Freezer handle is a great touch. However, you will not get many features on the inside. While the shelving units are adjustable, they do not adjust enough. You can only adjust them a couple of inches in a few directions. Most of the door shelves turn out to be too small to even use unless you just omit one of the shelves to increase the height of the others.Other units offer shelves with much more adjustable heights to them. After you look at other brands, you will see that Samsung missed the mark on designing the interior of this unit.

You can fit a gallon of milk in the doors, but don't even try to fit a one gallon pitcher of tea or something similar on the shelves. The noise level is a bit higher than I expected. It is not quiet, but it is manageable. The lighting is too dim.I know they are using LED lights to save energy, but there needs to be more light. When opening the freezer door you often spill ice into the bottom of the freezer or worse, your kitchen floor. The ice maker comes down too far into the ice bucket causing it to knock cubes off when opening/closing the door.

At the end of the day, I was never thrilled about the abilities or features of this Samsung refrigerator. When major problems surfaced, that just put the nails in the coffin.I was completely dissatisfied with this model and Samsung's customer service (I did call them after the second malfunction).I cannot recommend this model and likely cannot recommend any Samsung refrigerator.

We were looking for a newer, energy efficient refrigerator to replace our old 1993 GE one -ANDone that will fit in the small space under the cabinets. This one just fits and has the freezer on the bottom.

We were so sick of "losing" our leftovers, fruits and other goodies to the back of the fridge, only to find it a week later, spoiled. I'm glad we chose the french doors, but I wish the shelves were split instead of one long shelf. The only place to put our milk jars and ice tea and lemonade is in the door on the bottom shelf. So we can fit 2 1/2 gallon jars from the dairy farmer and one jug of lemonade. Anything else and we're out of luck. This would not be ideal for soda drinking families who do not wish to store 2 liters on their sides. Our booze has to lay down on its side on shelves. Meh. I hope it doesn't leak.

The old refrigerator had probably too much door space. When I tried putting everything from that one into this new fridge, I ended up tossing some of the odd sauces or jellies we had. The freezer portion wasn't so bad. Yes, I suppose this is a large freezer, but we buy our meat a month ahead of time from a rancher and need to store quite a bit. One half of the bottom basket is crammed full of 30-40 lbs of meat. The other half has some boxed foods, corn dogs, french toast sticks, plus all our frozen bagged veggies. There is room in the upper tray for all our ice cream products, a frozen pizza and other misc items. The rest of the upper tray is the ice maker, which takes awhile to get going according to the manual. We've only had the fridge for 24 hours, so I can't comment yet on how quickly it will make ice.

I will say that this refrigerator is whisper quiet. I don't know if it's running unless I open it for something. It uses half the electricity of the older one (we stuck a Kill-o-Watt on it before decommissioning it). It's probably a good thing that I can't fit 500 little jars of what-not in the doors--it's more streamlined and less cluttered and that means less to clean when a jar tips over and leaks. The produce drawers are huge! The meat/cheese drawer, not so much. There is plenty of shelf space for leftovers, if not for drinks.

Your lifestyle will dictate whether or not this is the right refrigerator for you. If you have lots of leftovers/take-out, you're good to go. If your family is frozen pre-packaged food eating as opposed to cooking, you'll get by, but you'll need to shop at least every other week. And of course if you are a cooking family, this will be just fine. Beer drinkers, if you don't need both produce drawers for veggies, then you can fit at least a 24 pack of long-necks in one of the drawers. Awesomeness. Big 2 liter or milk and OJ drinkers? Take a good look at the shelf configuration.

This Fridge failed after 10.5 months of use. The compressor would not kick on and all my food spoiled. Before that the compressor was noticeably loud from day one. I have been hardly home and the fridge got very little real use.It looks good and I used to love how it looked in my modern kitchen, but now I am very disappointed. Buy at your own risk! Also, I suggest that you search for reviews of the same fridge in different colors (all the same under the hood) to make a more informed choice!

One star means I hate it.A PERFECT DESCRIPTION of how I feel about this POS.

Noisy.Clunky.The lack of options for placing shelves where you want them especially in the doors is appalling. The icemaker broke after 11 months of use because we left the scoop in the ice cube bin.... which is where it was when the unit was delivered. Nothing in the manual about "don't do that".

The stainless steel front is a pain to keep clean; the only product I've found that really does remove smudges is citrus oil, but you have to be VERY careful about how you spray it; if the oil spray lands on the floor you've got a slippery oily mess in front of your refrigerator.

While polishing the stainless yesterday, I noticed two distinct rows of RUST SPOTS running down the freezer door; clearly the stainless steel was damaged in production.YET ANOTHER warranty call.

Samsung's website is a horror I can't get in even after multiple password resets.Their online chat support is typical:"Neil" (who's real name has to be Rashnish) takes 5 minutes to say "Sorry for your inconvenience"... Oh for the love of god kill me.

I never would have purchased this refrigerator but had no choice when I bought the condo it came with. It's awful, and I'm ready to toss it on the street.

After 18 months this fridge started leaking water into the veggies drawers and freezing water under the veggie drawers. This should be a recalled item.It requires a service call and repair that is costly. This is unacceptable for a $1400. refrigerator.Samsung should pay for these repairs. If you like this fridge you better buy an extended warrenty, it will go bad.
