Whirlpool GB2FHDXWS Gold 21.9 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Energy Star

Whirlpool GB2FHDXWS Gold 21.9 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Energy StarGot the water accumulation issue in the bottom of the freezer a couple weeks before the 1-year warranty ran out.Repairmen knew the instant they saw the fridge what the problem was. They said that the factory instructions were simply to cut a larger opening in a certain rubber piece they showed me than the slit it was made with to drain water that condenses as part of the defrosting. The slit blocks up easily and then the water backs up.There has been no problem since.

I purchasedWhirlpool Gold line version of this Refrigerator/Freezer along with several other Whirlpool appliances. After just over a year ice started forming in the bottom of the freezer and then leaks out during nightly defrost. Cleaned it up twice but continues to happen. Whirlpool customer service was useless saying I should have bought the extended warranty even though it is happening at 13 months. I wouldn't buy another Whirlpool product based on the quality and the customer service I experienced.

This is a great low energy use refrigerator. HOWEVER after a year of ownership the bottom freezer keeps icing up the coils. You must then thaw it all out, clean up the mess and start over. Whirlpool has been no help. So beware before buying.

Simply put, my existing fridge was going kaput. So in researching for a replacement, I happened upon this model for one sole reason: it was one of the most affordable, stainless steel, bottom-freezer units from a reputable company.Full disclosure, I chose not to hook the water line up to this fridge because I like to make ice in my own trays...don't ask...I'm picky about certain things. That said, I cannot really speak to some of the leaking reports that some other reviewers have experienced.

I've had it for a few months now, and it does exactly what I want it to keep my refrigerated items cold, and my frozen items, well...frozen.And it does so in fairly nice style. It's a nice, clean design with no frills. It's been very reliable with no reported issues so far.

Based on my experience, I would definitely recommend this unit to someone shopping for an entry level bottom-freezer refrigerator.
