It is a nice wine cooler with sturdy construction, nice wooden racks, and space for oversized (Rhone Style) bottles. It makes a growling sound when the compressor kicks in, sometimes it goes on for a few minutes. The red wine temp. zone cooling is not as effective, it hovers around 64 deg most of the time even though I have it set at 56 deg.

Beware of this design fault:

At the bottom of the door (right hand side of the cabinet) there is a plate that has a bolt/screw and a nut that holds the door. This screw protudes out and hits the floor and scratches the floor when you move the cooler. It scartched my nice wooden floor when the cooler was delivered and I tried to move it to the right spot. With this high quality of cooler, I am dissapointed with this seemingly obvious design issue. I had to go to the hardware store and buy a plastic cap to cover the screw and use tape to keep the cap in place to prevent it from scratching the floor.

My unit is just under 2 years old and has quit working. I don't know if it has ruined my wine or not!

The only thing Vinotemp is willing to do is look at if for free, if I take it to Rancho Domingez, which is over an hour drive without traffic, and it is in a bad area. If it is the overload relay, I would have to pay parts and labor of almost half the price of the original unit. Another option is to have someone the customer service rep knows look at it(hmm, convenient), which I would have to pay. I would rather buy a new unit, from a different company. The wine chiller should have lasted much longer than this. It is a bad product and the company doesn't care.

Don't buy it.

Want Vinotemp VT-34-2 Dual-Zone 34-Bottle Wine Chiller, Stainless Steel Discount?

I did not buy this unit from Amazon (I should have but didn't see it here when I was looking).

The first one arrived non-functional despite following the manufacturers recommendation to allow it to rest in its final location for 24 hrs before plugging it in. I exchanged it for a second unit and this one is working so far (one week old). The overall appearance is very attractive and the wood pull-out shelves are very nice and hold the bottles securely. The thermostat controls the temperatures in the two zones fairly loosely, meaning that the compressor doesn'tturn on until the temp rises 4-5 degrees above the set temp. For example I have mine set at 48/55 and the zones get up to around 53/60 before the compressor comes on. I don't think that will hurt the wines and should prolong the life of the compressor. My only complaint so far is that it makes a strange loud growling/groaning sound for about 10 minutes each time the compressor comes on (in addition to the usual hum). The durability remains to be seen but at this price if it lasts 4 or 5 years I'll be satisfied. The KitchenAid wine cooler that came with my house sells for around $1200 and only lasted 7 yrs.

I received this item as a gift.It serves as a replacement and upgrade from the smaller Thermo-electric Wine Refrigerator I had.

I am very impressed with the styling, dual temperature zones, and that the racks allow me to store Pinot Noir and Reising bottles on them.I couldn't store those in my old refirgerator

The compressor while a bit loud when it first turns on is not too bad when its running.From what I've read, the compressor based units provide a better range of cooling temperatures, unlike my Thermo-electric one that only can effectively cool about 15 Degrees below ambient room Temperature.

While not perfect, its a nicely styled and dependable unit that I would have no problem recommending.
