First, I saw that one reviewer has a problem with leaking filters when used in an older Frigidaire.I've had no such problem with the original filter and two replacements that I've installed. (And yuck! to see what those filters have removed from the city water!) So, maybe higher than normal water pressure is the problem and could possibly be regulated.Just a thought.

The filters are 5-star performers but even at Amazon's lower price, I still consider them "pricey", so I dropped a star.

My Tip:

I kept my last filter in until performance (delivered water flow rate) had diminished considerably.It was sort of an experiment in economy. I was surprised when my ice maker started to jam with the under-sized "cubes" (they are actually shaped like half of a large thick coin) resulting from the slower water flow through the old filter.One or more of the ice ejector cogs would get jammed with one of the "runt" cubes. What obviously happens is that the water fill operation is controlled entirely by a timer, so reduced flow results in less water delivered to the tray cavities.The cycle continues and results in small cubes of ice for which the ejectors are not designed.

So my tip is that if you try to extend the life of the filter by accepting the slower water delivery rate, pay attention to the size of the ice cubes.When they are reduced to about two-thirds normal size, the ice maker is likely to become jammed. It's easy to see the problem after removing the cover from the ice maker, but the only solution is to install a new filter. Once I cleared the jam easily by hand but had to (carefully) use an ice pick the next time and then immediately installed a new filter!

I have had my Frigidare refrigerator for about 5 years now.The filters used to have a thick housing over the two smaller cylinders and it worked wonderfully. I never experienced any problems with those filters.About 2 years ago they changed the design taking away the outer housing leaving only the two smaller cylinders.Since then I have been through 8 filters in two years.When you cover the outlet hole and blow into the inlet hole, you can see the water spirt out of the side of the cartridge.It doesn't always occur at the top seal; however, many times the leak is in the plastic but you can see where the seam glue has run down to the spot where it's leaking.It appears that the glue they are using is dissolving the weak plastic and causing it to leak.I'm not sure what you can do about it but I just save my receipts and take them back about every 2-4 months when they fail.It's a pain but the manufacturer won't do anything about it.I just won't buy another Frigidare in the future!

Just called Frigidaire/Electrolux to ask about the leaky redesign.They cannot tell me whether what they sell on THEIR OWN WEBSITE is the original design (2 cylinders enclosed in a plastic rectangle) or the faulty (2 cylinders not enclosed).Customer service assured me that the part would fit; when reiterating I was concerned about the 2 cylinder design and not the fit they suggested going to Lowe's to look at the part available.Want to order from Amazon as $10 cheapernote the customer photo is the original rectangle and Amazons photo is the exposed 2 cylinder design.

**I don't think the company is concerned about the flaw.**A suggestion: letter writing campaign to the companycompanies do seem to respond better to something in writing (it is visible proof they ignored the consumer if they don't act).Maybe involve your local news; many like faulty product reports/warnings.Let's ramp up the bad publicity and make them care about us!

My situation: Three year old fridge which I have not replaced the filter on even once given the reviews online.In case Frigidaire should ever read Amazon reviews, please know knowledgable consumers do exist who will (1) not buy the faulty filters, (2) not buy Frigidaire/Electrolux products in the future, and (3) discourage any friends from buying these brands.(Interestingly, I have had TurboTax respond to a mostly positive Amazon review with one minor suggestiona surprise and an indication a company cares).A shame if Frigidaire/Electrolux loses business this waymy whole kitchen is stainless Frigidaire appliances.

Nothing much new to add here to the plethora of bad reviews.I've returned this filter at least six times to Home Depot due to leaks bad leaks after anywhere from 1 to 4 months of service.Original filter (box design, no longer sold) never leaked.My current filter started leaking (natch, spewing water all over the butter and relish) after less than one month in service.On previous leaks I was able to cover one hole and blow on the other and find water seeping from the seam between the clear plastic and white end caps.It is definitelyfault design in the filter.

I might just write a letter to Electrolux but from what I have heard they seem to ignore the issue.This is either a scam to increase filter turnover or just a general lack of care from the company to fix an obvious systemic issue.They have been losing money from me as I have replaced filters by simply exchanging them at Home Depot. My recommendation would be to buy at your local big box so you have that option, as these things LEAK.
