The counter depth is great, but what distinguishes the Kitchenaid for me is the interior water dispenser.I don't like in-the-door water/ice dispensers because I think they're unattractive, and they take up so much room inside.Mostly I want water ice I can get from below easily and this saves so much room not needing to use my big brita.Am sold on counter depth now because I can see everything so much more easily the frig is wider and not as deep and that's perfect.
The only reason I'm not giving it 5 (or 10) stars is because the stainless is high maintenance.Nothing seemed to clean it well so I researched it to death (and went through a number of stainless steel cleaners) and followed the recommendation of a lot of people to use Weisman spray cleaner with a microcloth. That works really really well but I wish the metals Kitchenaid uses would require less maintenance.I'm aware now and in the habit of keeping my hands off the doors as much as possible using just the handles but if I had a bunch of kids in the house it'd drive me batty.
I'd buy this frig again in a heartbeat.Love it!I rarely expect products to be excellent anymore. My new criteria for excellence is when something is "OK". That is what this fridge is ...OK. Have had it for two years and is working fine. ergonomically however it is kinda dumb. THe water filter and controls are above the top shelf, and unfortunately cut into it quite a bit. If I place a gallon of milk on the topshelf it doesn't fit easily. If you move the shelf down then the lower shelves are too confined. I have manipulated the controls once since I purchased this, oneyou set the temp, why play with it? For this reason, I would have placed the control panel in the back..out of the way, and the filter as well. In an effort to be more convenient they have made it less so, but today that is par. It's OK.
Oh yeah...the bottom grill rattles

KitchenAid refrigerators are usually 50% more expensive than, say Kenmore. You would expect higher quality. But unfortunately I got the exact opposite. Mine broken down in less than 3 years. Two repair attempts cost over $500. Got a new compressor. My mom has a very old Hitachi ref, 10 years old still runs like new. I would never buy any KitchenAid products from now on.We bought this fridge during a remodel project because we needed a counter depth unit and wanted a bottom freezer. It looks great and has convenient storage. Functionally, it has been trouble. After two months, food started freezing, and we had to toss out lots of produce. Two repair companies later we were told the thermistor was bad. After the repair the temp was too warm despite adjusting the control.Repaired again , but now food is freezing and it needs a new control unit.Despite calls and emails to Kitchenaid, we got no reimbursement for food loss not part of the warranty. That tells methey do not stand completely behind their product .The retailer that we purchased from has been great with repair service.I do NOT recommend Kitchenaid.

Purchased a Kitchenaid fridge (bottom freezer) a year and a half ago.It was expensive ($1800) and stainless steel.Had I known how much work was required to keep the stainless looking good, I would never have purchased a stainless appliance.I wonder if the stainless steel used by Kitchenaide is substandard. It scratches very easily.Dents just as easily.Resists an even polish.Good luck using Pledge on it.Trying to clean up using Pledge is a nightmare as the surface seems to spot and streak.I tried glass cleaner at first--big mistake.Took much effort to rid the surface of the streaks.
If I had kids, the fridge would be a dented and scratched mess.As it is, I have several scratches and a few dents already and I do not know how they got there. But once scratched, always scratched. Once dented, always dented. And by the way, why is it once you know where there is a scratch or dent, your eyes always seem to go that miserable reminder of poor quality?
Had a number of problems with the ice maker but several repair visits fixed that problem when the fridge was first delivered. No problems since.
I am disappointed with Kitchenaide. The interior is rather cheap looking as well.
