Just like it says, pop it in and away you go. Even though it does not say anything about purging the system and flushing out all of the black carbon, I did anyways. Really not much of anything came out, so I almost have to think that there is no black carbon in the filter. The water taste a bit better, but in our area (LBC, CA.) the water is already good.

After buying the manufacturer's recommended filter for around 5 years, I decided to go cheap and buy this one. I was totally optimistic about this purchase, however this is the first time in 5 years that I've noticed a funky taste from our fridge's filtered water.
