Firstly, the delivery went perfectly smooth. The 2 gentlemen were very polite and professional. They were careful handling the fridge and manuevering it through the house. It was actually fairly quick and very efficient. They called the night before to remind me of the delivery time and then again when they were about a half hour from my house. They offered to remove the old fridge, but we had decided to keep it in the garage to make use of the extra freezer space for now. We have been wanting to buy a chest freezer for down there, but hadn't gotten it yet, so the old fridge will do in the meantime. There was absolutely no damage on the fridge. No dents, bumps or scratches. It looked perfect, and I signed as such on the delivery papers.
The fridge:
Really looks good. Nice shiny black. The body is textured. The handles are smooth, so they wipe right clean if need be. The old fridge was white, with finely textured handles and they would not come clean to save my life. I would scrub and scrub and use every cleaner available, including bleach and you could just not get them back to white. So, this black color is perfect in every way. Body seems as durable and well made as you'd expect a fridge to be.
It is very roomy inside and it doesn't feel like you have to go searching for things. Everything is right there and with the fridge on top it is all eye level. No crouching to get into the drawers either.
This thing is quiet too, which is a nice change from our old fridge. You barely hear it at all, even when right beside.
All shelves, including the shelves/compartments and butter compartment for the door are fully customizable. The door has lips the whole way up and down, so you can place the shelves wherever you want. Putting them on and changing them around is very easy. They have caps on them which cap onto the lips on the door. They do not actually "lock" totally into place. (see flaws below)
The butter compartment is a very nice size.
The glass shelves are sturdy and lock fully into place.
The temperature controls are digital and right up front. There is a separate control for fridge and freezer, which is nice. Each control goes up to 7, but on the unit it states that 4 is the recommended setting. We were told to let the temperature regulate 24 hours before putting fresh/thawed meats in the freezer so that the heat was pulled out from the insulation in the unit, but after 4 hours it seemed ready. I put in a fresh roast and you could tell it was starting to freeze after about 15 minutes. The fridge was also ready in 4 hours and kept everything cold as it should have.
Freezer area is ample enough. It has more space and is better laid out than my top freezer fridge was. There are 2 racks (one slides o top of the other) with dividers that you can place however you want to accomodate your needs/items. They come off easily too if you don't wish to use them. The dividers just clip onto the racks. The freezer drawer slides in and out very smoothly as well. I have it filled to capacity and it still goes along smoothly.
The unit has casters or wheels on the bottom so that you can slide it easily front or backward. Moving it sideways takes a little more push and directive though. I did not put the stoppers on the casters because I like to be able to pull the fridge out every few months and get the dust bunnies out. The casters are really nice to have. Our old fridge did not have them. My kitchen floor is natural stone and moving the old fridge a few times to clean behind it has left nice gouges and scratches in it. The unit does not move or pull forward when I open it or pull the drawers out. That experience though may depend on how well wedged in the fridge is as well as the type of floor you have. In our kitchen, this Amana fridge is solidly wedged in between the wall and the stove, so it doesn't have wiggle room.
It sits very low to the ground, so there is barely any room for anything to slide underneath..bottle caps will not fit under there, no lost jelly beans or beads, so it makes for less clean up, even for dust bunnies. Only something very flat will get under there (for example a popsicle stick laying flat). My old fridge had about an inch of clearance from the floor, so stuff would always get slid underneath.. if the kids dropped a water bottle lid by accident etc for example. No more of those worries now. It is a plus.
Crisper drawers are crystal clear acrylic?/ plastic. A bit light weight and thin, but should hold up fine hopefully. I was a little surprised at the quality or heft of the drawers. Our old fridge was a basic freezer on top 16 cu.ft., lower end GE costing maybe 500 bucks about 8 years ago. The drawers on that were heavier/thicker and seemed more durable, so I guess in my mind I expected at least similar quality with this Amana, given it's hefty price tag. I mean, these aren't necessarily bad, just not what I expected I guess. The drawers each have a humidty control on them as well. As for the size of the drawers, they are pretty large. I was able to fit 3 bags of oranges in one drawer, so that is pretty good. Even with the drawer being stuffed like that, it still slid out smoothly.
The 2 flaws:
1) The crisper drawers do not have stoppers on them. So when you pull them out you pull them right out. You have to purposely stop yourself from pulling it the whole way out. The cheese/deli drawer does have a stopper in the track. Not sure why the crispers don't. The crisper drawer on the side closest to the door hinges gets stopped by the door, so that one is no issue, but the other one will fly right out without hesitation. I've double checked to make sure they are on the tracks correctly and removed and replaced them etc, but they seem to be on correctly and just have no type of stopper to them.
2) The compartments on the side of the door do not totally lock into place. So if you were removing something from a compartment and bump the underneath of the compartment above it, it will pop off. Hopefully they can come up with a better idea for the compartments in the future. I just forsee my children grabbing the ketchup etc and bumping the upper compartment and everything falling, including the compartment itself. It is definitely something to be mindful of.
I knocked off one star for these 2 flaws. Otherwise, I am happy with every other aspect so far. If any problems arise or any other notable things come to mind, I will definitely update the review.

I've had this refrigerator for 6 years. I had to replace the defrost thermostat about 3 weeks ago...now it appears to have gone bad again. (The refrigerator gets warmer but the freezer still works.)The handle to the freezer is a pain because it comes loose about once a year and even thou I tighten it every time, I still have to get the manual out to try to remember how and even the last repair guy I had out said when he worked on one he couldn't get it either then it just "clicked" and he still doesn't know what he did. No more stooping to see what's for dinner unless it's in the freezer. But the freezer has 2 drawers that pull out, so it's easy to see what's in there. To a tall person, this is a well-designed Energy Star appliance. Adjustable glass shelves let you customize the inside of the frig to your liking. There are 2 humidity-controlled crispers and one pull-out dairy/cheese drawer. The door is thick and has a large butter compartment that will hold more than 1 lb. of butter. There is also room in the door for a dozen eggs in their original carton. Iced tea and soda bottles easily fit in the bottom of the door. I prefer the single door model to the French door versions. No exposed coils on the back of the machine to break like my old frig. It quietly operates but does seem to run frequently (of course, that may be due to the record heat this summer). An ice-maker is NOT included, but is an option. I like to make my own ice and 3 standard ice cube trays fit neatly in the top drawer of the freezer. The exterior of the unit has a black crinkled finish, not smooth, so it hides fingerprints well. Splurge for the delivery and set-up. It was well worth the $40 or so. I still saved over $200 buying from Amazon over a local retailer that wanted to charge $59 for delivery of less than 20 miles. Very satisfied with this purchase.Want Amana 21.9 cu. ft. ive been renting apartments for years now, and ive hated my fridges for at least the last 4 years, so i broke down and bought my own, after alot of research i found this amana model, and i love it.
it has a ton of freezer space, and more fridge space then i could have wished for, room for my zero water holding tank (we have bad hard water where i live so this is a must) gallons of milk or other drink jugs, cubes of soda, and all my food leftovers and cold stores.
i will mention one potential con of this unit, if i ever move again, it weighs in at like 350 pounds, and its gonna be a PITA to move it.

()Incredibly spacious and with a sleek look, the Amana bottom-freezer refrigerator has revitalized my kitchen and thankfully replaced my much less roomy old fridge. The interior compartment is very deep, allowing for plenty of room for putting your groceries, and as a serious plus literally all of the shelves and containers are fully customizable. You can put any of them pretty much anywhere and at any height, to accommodate for larger items like soda bottles or smaller items like leftover Tupperware containers.The side compartments inside the door are also easily large enough to hold a full gallon of milk or large container of juice, which was a complaint I had with my smaller last fridge.
The bottom pull-out style freezer has two separate areas for storing frozen goods and is equally customizable, with plastic dividers that can be put in different areas to meet your storage needs. Temperature controls are located right up front at the top of the fridge interior, making it simple to change the temperature in either the fridge or freezer.So far in my experience the fridge has also been virtually silent.
There are rollers located on the bottom so it's easy to maneuver the fridge in a kitchen and you don't end up having to "walk" it back into a corner. The handles can also be removed if the fridge won't fit through a door, although this process requires a tuning key that isn't included, so you'll have to make a trip down to the hardware store if you don't happen to already have the right sized tool handy.
While it has an amazing amount of storage room, for the asking price it seems strange that this Amana doesn't come with an icemaker, although it is wired for one and you can add one in later. The only other complaint I've had with it so far is that the seals are almost too effective, as I've noticed sometimes after closing the door that it's difficult to re-open it right away, but I suspect that will fix itself as the fridge is used more often and broken in.Those are pretty minor issues though, and I'm definitely very happy with this unit and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new fridge who doesn't absolutely have to have an ice maker.

My GE fridge was making clicking sounds when the compressor tried to kick on.Sometimes it would take a while to turn on and the temp in the freezer would get above freezing and the temp in the fridge would get above 50F.Based on various internet sources it was evident the problem was the board.It took all of 15 minutes to swap out the board and after 1+ month the fridge seems to be operating normally.

I needed a main board... but decided to replace all of the electronics. I spoke to a GE customer advocate 3 times (placed 3 orders), called the 800 # listed in from Thin Tow Man's review.... WOW... Best CS ever... Our fridge is not warranty or any recall list... Ok, the important part... Main board (w/ 1 year warranty), temp. module board, two thermistors and a freezer switch module... Total including Next Day Air $95 And they both said that if I had a problem with the install that I could give them a call !!!I also purchased a Cole-Parmer temp monitor with high and low alarms... $50 WHEN THE ALARM GOES OFF (I set the alarms at -10 & +15 degrees) I THEN TURN THE FRIDGE OFF FOR 30 Secs to 1 min. AND THEN BACK ON. That really works in my case... Doing so resets the board... I read that somewhere... It's a real pain but solves a BIG problem until I do the new install. I am leaving the temp monitor (its very small) in place because I read somewhere the a person had THREE of the boards go bad within a very short period of time.

Like most people who are looking for a GE SmartWater replacement filter I came across the GE SmartWater MWFINT filter.It appeared very similar to the GE SmartWater MWF filter, but I wanted to do some digging because I didn't want to buy the wrong filter.
Here's what I found:Both are genuine GE refrigerator filters that remove the exact same contaminants.They also have the same NSF certifications and they both fit into the exact same model refrigerators.
What's different:The color of the graphic label on the front of the cartridge and the price (The INT version is cheaper).
Installation of the new filter was incredibly easy, and after following the instructions on "flushing" the new filter for a few minutes, I enjoyed a delicious glass of clean, filtered water.

Yes, this filter is a lot cheaper than the name brand, and yes, it does fit as promised (at least for the GE MWF filter).That aside, the quality is questionable.For one thing, the product doesn't come with specifications on what it filters or how well--the GE OEM model does.So other than a vague statement on the box that it filters turbidity and chlorine, that's it.Based on taste of the water, we're not sure it's filtering everything.And I'm doubtful that it will last as long as the GE version.Note that it doesn't claim to be an exact replacement for the GE version but rather, "can replace."I'm also worried about quality control.Each filter comes in an individual box, and those were falling apart because of weak glue.Did I mention these are made in China?
We'll see how long these last, but my guess is the per-unit savings will be lost in going through the filters more rapidly, and, as I said, we're not sure the water is being filtered all that well.

I was a little hesitant purchasing these filters but they work very well with the GE Fridge.I don't think that there is as much filtering as in the GE filters but they make the water taste better and do the job.Very quick shipping and I have not had a problem with the filters.

I ordered this to relace a burned out element. The replacement is a double element. Should work better and last longer than original. The price was very cheap compared to what other places were asking. Easy to install and if you are not sure how to go about it, there are how-to videos for just about anything.

If I had read the review prior to purchase, I would not have bought this washer.It is CR's third lowest rated top loading washer, scoring only 32 points, compared to a high of 75 points.Its lowest rated area is the most important-washing efficiency. It was one of only four washers awarded a "fair" rating for washing efficiency-no washers rated "poor". (In most other areas it rated very well.)
I went back in before delivery to swap it out.The salesperson convinced me to try it for thirty days, telling me that no matter what CR said, it would get my clothes clean, and I would love it.I don't love it.Consumer Reports was right.
I wanted to like this washer.It is nice looking.The controls are easy to work, and I thought there would be less chance of a problem with a knob rather than the soft push areas that work the controls on most new washers. It is great for water and energy efficiency.
It just does not get the clothes clean.I am washing small loads of my 86 year old mother's soiled pajamas that I really need to get thoroughly clean.I run a soak cycle, which takes about 30 minutes, with detergent, Febreeze, and Clorox.The soak cycle does not include a rinse or spin, so I run that, which takes an additional 15 minutes or so.Then I wash them in one of the regular cycles, including an extra rinse, with detergent, Febreeze, and Tide laundry boosters.
In total, it takes about two hours to wash a load of clothes.You'd think with all that, that they would be clean and fresh smelling.But they aren't.This washer leaves stains that my old agitator style washer got out, and they occasionally still have an unpleasant odor.
I should have trusted Consumer Reports.Lowes is swapping it out for a Maytag that CR rates higher.
If you have lightly soiled clothes, and are sure to follow the directions closely-it works differently than agitator style washers-it may work fine for you.It was not satisfactory for my needs.

I just returned this washer after 3 days of washing. It is not like your old school agitator machine. It will hold a lot of clothes, but the "agitator" or wash plate action is not enough for the tough dirt and stains. It is quiet and it saves water but it left a lot stains behind. I bought this HE washer because it did not have that big agitator in the middle.I was curious if it would clean well or not.I loaded the washer after putting the detergent in.You have to load this washer leaving a whole in the middle (like a donut).I took a pair of shorts outside and rubbed them in the dirt. I would then dust them off. I did this until the dirt would not dust off and I had two spots the size of softballs on them.Ture ground in dirt.I put the shorts on the top of the load.When I opened the lid after the washer had finished the shorts were somewhere in the middle of the load and clean.My kind of results.

This is the absolute worst machine I have ever owned.I purchased it because I was tired of my socks and underwear falling on the floor with the front loader and the fact that the musty smell would not go away.I went with this top loader, thinking it was akin to the good old fashioned washers and I wouldn't have computer issues, smells and mold.Well, I was wrong.To begin with, it rips your clothes to shreds, because it does not use enough water.Your underwear soon has holes and the elastic starts to fall off.Forget putting any decent dress clothing in it, as any satin type of fabric ends up in the trash can.Also, your clothes do not come clean.If you have kids, you can wash jeans three times and still there will be caked on dirt.Forget it, if you have a dog and want to wash a dog blanket, even if you soak it first and wash three times, it still won't be clean and it will still smell.Now, as far as the computer issues............OMG!.........what a nightmare!The water levels are not properly detected so half your load comes out totally dry.I've replaced the lid lock sensor, because it will not lock, even though the machine is new and now, I need to replace it again.Honestly, save yourself a ton of aggravation and buy something else, because this is truly the worst washer I have ever owned. I wish I had returned it, but now I have to go to the laundromat, as I can not afford to repair it again because it has a lousy warranty.You should not have to spend $400 in repairs in less than one year of owning a washer.

My husband ordered this washer when our old Whirpool one gave out after 15 years.We normally do a lot of research when we are making a big purchase but this time we didn't, since we needed a washer immediately, and we had already had the same model dryer, which works very well.What a mistake that was!I know that the politically correct thing to do these days is to go Green and use less water, but I don't care what technology the new HG washers have, there is no way that an entire 3.6 cu ft. washer,filled "almost" to the top with clothes, can properly clean an entire load with only 2 inches of water! I know that my loads only had that amount of water in them because when load after load came out with stains, I finally paused the washer in the middle of the wash cycle to view the water level.I was rather shocked to see that it was only filled with about 2 inches!Still, I wanted to give this washer a chance before I returned it, so I gave it one final shot when my daughter spilled chocolate milk all over her bed comforter.I even used a pre staining treatment on it (which always worked perfectly for tough stains in my old washer), but when the cycle was finished and I took the comforter out, the stain was still clearly visible.That was the last straw!I am returning this machine for a GE "old fashioned" model that allows enough water to be filled so that my clothes can be cleaned properly.Unfortunately Whirlpool only makes HG energy efficient models now.The other thing that I want to mention is that I DID READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and I used the machine properly.I did NOT fill it to the very top with clothes. I made sure that my clothes did NOT cover the washer head at the bottom, and that they formed a "ring" around it, AND I made sure I used HG detergent.So, saying that people who are complaining that their clothes are coming out dirty because they are not using the washer properly, doesn't fly in my case.I made sure I followed the instructions.The final comment I want to make about this washer (which is still yet another reason it is getting returned), is that my clothes always come out EXTREMELY wrinkled.I can never get the wrinkles out in the dryer, no matter how much I tried.I NEVER had that problem with my old washer.The bottom line is that if dirty, wrinkled clothes don't bother you, then this is the washer for you.
