4388932 FRIDGE DEFROST CONTROL BOARD TIMER KENMORE WHIRLPOOL NEW OEM 11

4388932 FRIDGE DEFROST CONTROL BOARD TIMER KENMORE WHIRLPOOL NEW OEM 11
  • If unsure, please ask your seller if it fits your model

I really don't know how to review it since it was not the part that was wrong. I had to order two other parts

before I found out it was the defrost thermostat that was the part broken.

Avanti : WCR683DZD2 24 Freestanding Wine Cooler with Wooden Shelves

Avanti : WCR683DZD2 24 Freestanding Wine Cooler with Wooden Shelves
  • Dual temperature zones , For freestanding use
  • Upper one capacity: 74 bottles, Lower one capacity: 75 bottles
  • Digital thermostat and display, Security lock
  • Dimensions: 71 1/8"h x 23 1/2"w x 26 7/8"d
  • Warranty: 1 year parts and labor, 5 years on compressor only

Shipped promptly and was set up inside the house. The unit has no rollers under it just leveling feet. The compressor and fan are fairly quiet when they come on.Shelves accommodate various size bottles including chardonnay, pinot noir and thick glass bottles.Did not have issues with the fit being so tight that it scraped the labels off. It is rare that I was able to get 10 bottles on a shelf, so capacity was really more like 130 bottles than 160.Overall great unit at a great price.I would recommend it.

When I first received this wine cooler it worked great. Loved the layout and the dual controls. But after a couple years in service the compressor went out. Fortunately we had an extended warranty that covered the costs. About 1/2 a year later the cooler was down again. This time the warranty was up and the parts were on backorder. The cooler was down about 45 days before we received the parts (Which were very expensive). That brings us up to now and the cooler is down again, only this time the parts will be 2-3 months. My feeling is that a company is only as good as its service and Avanti gets and F. They do not returns calls. The local repair shop--their "authorized service tech"--is at wits end trying to get the parts for us. Well, after reviewing the cost of the new parts, we finally decided that to repair it again would be too expensive...so it becomes junk!

Sioux Chief 696-1010XF Ox Box Icemaker Outlet Box for 1/2' PEX w/ WHAEasy installation.Had no issues with any leaks.Cover looks good.My only complaint is that the seller bent the metal bracket in a U-shape to fit the item in a smaller box.I didn't need it because I was mounting directly to a stud but someone that was planning on using the bracket would have had to try to get the bracket straight before installing.

GE ADAPTER Refrigerator Water Filter Adapter

GE ADAPTER Refrigerator Water Filter Adapter
  • Genuine GE factory part
  • Works with MWF and GSWF water filters

Consumers BEWARE! The GE Smartwater GWF filter is not a replacement for the old 'Culligan' FXRC metal filter. Despite the available adapter, the new Smartwater GWF filter was designed for a newer 'high-pressure' system installed in GE refrigerators manufactured after 2001. On the older models using normal water pressure [mine is a GE Performance Profile] these filters do not work. They will seem fine at first, only to run to a trickle in less than a month. I burned through several of these at @ $40.00 each until I discovered the problem.

With millions of wasted filters and dollars at stake, GE refuses to acknowledge the problem.I was told to find a technician at my expense. GE refused to replace the filters with a properly designed compatible model.

This adapter should not really be needed and it is difficult to install, as you can not tell when the plastic part is correctly aligned with the metal threads in the refrig. If you don't get it aligned just right, the thread bosses on this plastic adapter will be damaged and water will not flow.I found it was much easiest to pull the frosted horizontal bulb cover out, (just pull it towards you) so I could see when the the plasitc and metal threads were aligned. This made it was easy to install without damage.

Have a Kenmore (Sears) branded fridge that needed a new filter. When ordering new filters from Sears it turns out they changed to a different type of fitting on new filter, and they didn't state I needed the adapter now.Even their exploded diagrams on the parts list (even the updated online one) doesn't reflect a need for this adapter. Finally figured it out and am now able to use the right filter (older type fitting no longer manufactured).

As a side note, if you need the filters that fit this adapter, DO NOT order from Sears!Shipping is wicked expensive and local storefront does not stock them.Found them locally at Lowe's, and they are available online at Amazon as well.

Adapter is well built, durable, and works fine.Only gave 4 stars as (A) had to get the dang thing in the first place, and (B) it effectively lengthened the space needed to install the filter, so had to move shelf one slot down in the bracket holder.

The filter and adapter fit in my old GE fridge I have so I'm happy.Replaced filter FXRC.I could have bought a new FXRC or MXRC (replacement filter from GE b/c FXRC is discontinued) as some places must still have a stock of the old FXRC.The MWF (newest filter) and the adapter (needed to fit in the older GE model fridges) fits fine but the water flow rate is unbearably slow.It seemed to have made ice in short order though.I may try the MXRC the next time and see if the flow rate is any better but the MWF is a cheaper filter and I already have the adapter. We'll make that decision when this filter is done. This is a second fridge in the garage anyway and we use it mostly for storage and extra ice making capacity. The water flow rate for my purposes are minimal but it'd be nice if it worked well enough to use.

Does the MXRC filter even fit the GE Profile fridge?According to the details under the Amazon listing for the MXRC, it may not. They stress a few times that the GE Profile will need the crappy MWF filters with adapter.I use the MWF filters with an adapter and I'm sick of trickling water and, twice, leaking from the water system of my fridge (which I swear is related to this fiasco with incompatible water pressure).I want to try the MXRC but don't want to waste $50 if it doesn't fit.Has anyone tried the MXRC on a GE Profile fridge?

Cuisinart DCC-1100 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

Cuisinart DCC-1100BK 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, BlackAfter buying a succession of cheap coffee makers which broke down after a year or two and made mediocre coffee, I decided to upgrade to Cuisinart.

I don't agree with the negative comments about this product.

The clock is easy to program and it's clearly indicated that you should either use paper or gold filter (twice in the instructions). It's also easy to pour water in the reservoir if you use the carafe. You can turn the coffee maker to the left, and the reservoir opening is easily accessible. Its opening is by no means tiny, as a reviewer described it.

The center funnel which holds the filter is well situated and there is very little risk of dropping coffee grounds into the water reservoir.

The carafe is well designed, with a comfortable handle. It pours neatly, without dripping coffee all over the counter, something which always happened with my old Mr. Coffee.

You do have to realize the lid snaps down on top of the carafe. This is not explained in the instructions.

Most importantly, it makes an excellent coffee.

There is a 3 year guaranty which is more than I have seen for others.

So far, I have no complaint, and I am glad I bought this product for a great price.

UPDATE:I am still using this coffee maker as of today, August 13, 2012. It's still working well though there are signs of wear. The carafe lid is looser and the cover hinge has a tendancy to stick. Otherwise, there are no problems.

My name is Ryan, and I'm a coffee addict...My habit ranges from 1 to 3 pots a day just to remain conscious. So you can understand the level of misery I have had to endure this past week as my 4 year old Gevalia machine met an untimely death during a recent lightning storm.I then began the hunt for a new machine.Basically, Amazon was my first stop since they have everything.I read all sorts of reviews, and finally settled on this one.I must say, this is by far the best machine I've ever owned.

In reading the reviews, I found a few gripes that I don't agree with, so here's my response to those:

1. The number one gripe I see is filling difficulty. The fill hole is much larger than my old machine. Some people said its too small and makes a huge mess.My first time, it did drip a little bit but if you leave the lid off the pot while pouring, works like a charm.Let me put it this way... I wake up in the morning with the jitters, like a fiend looking for some crack... If I can pour it without making a mess ANYONE can. And that's a fact.

2. Numero Dos: Programming difficulty.I'm no rocket scientist by any means, but I had this thing programmed within about 5 minutes.I had no problem understanding the directions.I believe most gripes in this area are operator error.

3. Basket issues:It doesn't stand up on it's own, true, but I don't understand how anyone could miss the basket.Leave it in the machine for pete sake!I hope they don't miss their mouth with that hot coffee!Again, If I can do it without making a mess, anyone can.As for choosing paper or mesh filter, paper of course filters better, but mesh makes it stronger and leaves a bit of sediment in the pot... each way has it's benefits depending on how you like yours.

4.Flip-top so large you have to pull it out from under the counter:True, but how lazy can you be... honestly? It's not that hard of a chore. You'd be hard pressed to find a machine that isn't like this.

I, like others, had some pre-conceived notions from negative reviews, but I found most if not ALL of those to be some pretty weak arguments.I guess some people have more problems than others when trying to understand directions and such. This machine is top notch for the price, hands down!

OH!And please look through all the comments, It's going on 3 years and I have given multiple updates as time has passed.I'm sure you will enjoy!

Hello fellow coffee drinkers.Like most of you I have looked long and hard for a good basic coffee maker. In the last 5 years I have gone through 4 new products and have been quite dissapointed in this whole experience.I mean how hard can it be to make a good coffee maker.I had the basic braun coffee maker for 10 years and loved it.However, two new braun coffee makers later I realized that quality had gone down the drain with the coffee grinds. Then I purchased a krups.I returned it to the store within two weeks as it stopped working. They gave me a replacement which lasted just past the warranty. (figures)Then I tried a GE combo grinder brewer. That was the worst mistake I could have ever made. The first sign that it was garbage should have been when the GE emblem fell off.It leaked. It spilled. I spent more time cleaning than brewing, and thankfully it didn't last as long as its warranty and I had no intentions of getting another one free or not.

I have had this cuisinart now for three weeks. It does everything it says it will do.It never leaks, spills or makes a mess.As per the other reviews I feel it could have a bigger fill area but it really is no more difficult to fill than any other brewer I have owned. (don't let that stand in the way of buying this) I also think it is very easy to program and will even keep your settings in memory if it is unpluged for a short period of time.

This coffee maker works perfect and I hope it lasts as long as the warranty and beyond.

Happy brewing.

To make drip coffee, a machine has to do just two things well -heat the water adequately, and disperse the hot water over the grounds. Oddly, most coffee makers fail at one or the other. This Cuisinart does both pretty well, which is why it is probably the best machine on the market right now under $200 (and the reviews at Amazon testify to that).

TEMPERATURE: The overwhelming majority of brands do not heat the water adequately -if the water at the grounds is only getting to 175-180 degrees, you will have sour, weak coffee. Ideal temperature is around 202-205. Using a digital thermometer, I measured the DCC-1100 at 197 in the filter basket, which is quite good.

DISPERSION: The second task is showering the hot water over the grounds somewhat evenly. Many coffee makers just stream it in from a mini-faucet, so they overbrew the grounds in the center of the filter and neglect the grounds around the edges. Result is weak, slightly bitter coffee. The very expensive Capresso machine has this problem -it heats water to nearly 200 degrees but delivers that water poorly. The Capresso, which costs close to $200, makes mediocre coffee (at least it did for us). The Cuisinart isn't perfect in this regard but it does have a "shower head" design that disperses the water pretty well.

One other tip, which applies to all drip machines: Don't start with cold water. Room temperature is good. You can do this by running the tap partly warm, or by pouring the water the night before and letting it get to room temp. It gives the heating element a much better chance of getting the water to a good brewing temp.

This coffee maker makes great coffee, is fairly easy to use, and is true red.However...when ordering they do not tell you that it uses a small charcoal type filter that needs to be replaced every month or two (depending on use) and that these filters are far from cheap!

Avanti WDP75 Hot and Cold Water Dispenser

Avanti WDP75 Hot and Cold Water DispenserWhile it took a while to get here, my husband agrees with me that the Avanti Hot and Cold Water Dispenser was well worth the wait.

After our old dispenser gave up the ghost after twenty plus years, we looked at each other and said, 'what do we do now?' We tried shopping for another one locally but nobody had what we were looking for and we were, quite frankly, spoiled.

What do we like about the Avanti?

As the poet put it, let me count the ways.

First of all, because of its Energy Saver feature, the Avanti consumes less electricity than our old dispenser which ran constantly. It was also noisy. The Avanti, in contrast, is very quiet.

The Avanti features a neat little safety lock on the hot water faucet, which the old dispenser did not The storage space in the bottom, while it doesn't keep anything cold, is quite handy.

The Avanti's white plastic square design looks clean and nice. Our old brown metal dispenser did not. Also, unlike some of the round dispensers we looked at, the Avanti is not 'tippy'. Since it sits next to the kitchen doorway and a heavy traffic area, this was a real concern.

We also looked at dispensers that pumped from the bottom as well as the reviews and decided they were not for us.

The only CON was a chemical, almost musty, taste in the water for a few weeks after we got the Avanti, but that is now gone.

All in all, we are extremely pleased with the Avanti. It's much, much better than our old dispenser and we definitely give it 5 stars.

Update 7/3/2012

Now there is a problem. (Another reviewer had the same thing happen to them in December 2010 and, in their case, it was a broken hot water line.).

When I changed the three gallon bottle for a fresh one yesterday, everything seemed fine.

As recommended, (and as usual), I left the unit unplugged, ran 4 cups of water out through the hot water faucet then plugged in the unit and turned it on.

My husband woke me at around 11 p.m. with the news that there was a huge puddle around the dispenser and what should he do? I unplugged the unit, removed the bottle and emptied the reservoir through the hot water faucet. A seam along the top of the bottom cabinet door was wet and the drip catcher under the faucets was full.

Not wanting to spend the rest of the night working on the problem, I unplugged the unit and removed the bottle altogether.

After carefully drying everything off this afternoon, I replaced the bottle, removed another 4 cups of water via the hot water faucet, plugged in the unit again and turned on the hot and cold water. At first everything seemed fine. Then an hour later, I found another puddle. This time it appeared to be the result of an overflow from the reservoir, and the water level, which I had carefully marked on the outside of the bottle, had gone down about 25%.

We have spent the rest of today trying this and that. Now the new bottle is empty, there is still a puddle of water on the floor, tomorrow is July 4th and it's too late in the day to call Avanti's Customer Service. However, first thing, Monday, I'm going to call them and see what they have to say.

Film at 11.

Update, Tuesday, July 10, 2012

I called Avanti's Customer Service number yesterday. Once I reached a technician, she questioned me about the problem in detail and I listed all the steps I had followed.

She said, in her opinion, we needed a service call and gave the number of an authorized repair shop in our area.

The repairman arrived first thing this morning. After he checked out the entire unit and found no problem, he called Avanti's Customer Service.

The Avanti technician suggested that he look at the water bottle. He did and, sure enough, there was our problem. We'd been using three gallon plastic molded bottles which we'd purchased from the same health food store where we get our distilled water.

The bottle has four seams around the top, which fits snugly into the collar above the reservoir. When we examined the last bottle we used, we noticed some extra material on a couple of the seams. This extra material is known in the plastic molding industry as 'flash' and it's supposed to be trimmed or buffed off as soon as the part comes out of the press. (More years ago than I care to count, I worked as a press operator in a plastic molding plant which made glasses for American Airlines. So I know all about 'flash'.)

The Avanti Customer Service technician said this is not an uncommon problem with these plastic bottles.

As the repairman explained, the Avanti dispenser's operation depends on maintaining an intact vacuum seal between the bottle's top and the reservoir. When a defective bottle is installed, the sheer weight of three gallons of water creates the necessary vacuum seal and it'll stay that way with no leaks until a certain amount of water is removed from the dispenser. However, as the bottle's level goes down, it weighs less and raises slightly. This, in turn, exposes the four seams around the bottle's top. The space between the the extra seam material, or 'flash', creates an air space between the bottle and the reservoir collar. When this happens, the vacuum seal is lost. The bottle level then starts gradually going down by itself for no apparent reason and, after an hour or so, there's water all over the floor.

Because our dispenser is over two years old and out of warranty, we had to pay for the service call. However, it was worth it to us and I will still give the Avanti Water Dispenser an unequivocal five stars both for their Customer Service department's helpful and courteous response and the excellence of the product itself.

December 9, 2012

Update: Our Avanti dispenser is still working fine and, to date, we've had no more problems. I will say though, for anyone who might be interested, we only use distilled water which we purchase at a local health food for .89c per gallon. It's also very important to remove 4 cups of water from the dispenser via the hot water faucet immediately after replacing the bottle.

I spent a long time trying to find the best water dispenser in this lower-end price range, and I finally decided on the Avanti WDP75. I had two GE water dispensers for 8 years, one was a higher priced stainless model with digital features, mini frig, etc, and the other a white model similar in price and features to this Avanti. So my comparison is against the GE model that sells in Home Depot for about $120.

Pros:

Very Quiet operation.

Energy Star feature: this was important to me, but it's hard to know for sure how much electricity it consumes. I do not use the hot water, so I keep that turned off. The unit shows when the chilling cycle goes on, and it is not constant, so I believe the unit is energy efficient. I was happy that the bottom is not a mini-frig, since that was a waste of electricity, and I found that the refrig area got a musty smell from moisture.

The cold water is a perfectly chilled temperature, not as ice-cold as the $300 digial GE model, and that is a plus for me. The lower priced GE model would freeze up every day, and I would have to turn off the cold, let it defrost, then try again for a few hours before it froze up again. I would never buy that GE model again for that reason, and I am so happy to say that after 2 months of use, the Avanti has never frozen up, and the cold water is a constant temperature all day. That is what I got the dispenser for.

The unit has seperate reservoirs for hot and cold water, so if you turn off either the hot or cold, that side will dispense room temperature water.

The press down area to dispense the water is easy and the water flows very quickly. I read reviews of other models which said it took a long time to fill a cup. That is not the case with this Avanti.

It's a good height and very stable. Some dispensers seemed too low, but this is the standard height, with easy access to use.

Cons:

I followed the directions exactly, and also followed the optional step of using baking soda and water and let it sit overnight. It still had a metallic musty taste. I called Customer Service and they told me to put a half cup of bleach in a gallon of water and flush it through. I did that and it still had a bad taste. It took 3 days and many gallons of water, but it is good now. I wish they could do this before it gets to the customer.

I asked Customer Service if the reservoirs were accessible to clean, and was told no, there is no way to clean the reservoirs except by adding the bleach water to the top and flushing it through.

It's ok looking, but not exactly stylish. But its a water cooler, so ok.

It does not have the feature which punctures the water bottle top. You have to peel off the sticker of the water bottle and push in the plastic center before turning the open 5 gallon bottle upside down into the dispenser. I really do not like this feature, and I don't like the way the water bottle just sits in the top reservoir of water it doesn't seem stable. The top of the 5 gallon water bottle should be cleaned with alcohol or bleach before inserting, because it literally sits in the water that is being dispensed. Despite all the other good features, I may not have bought this model if I saw this. The other models had a self-puncturing piece as part of a ring that supported the bottle. I thought all dispensers had this.

Compared to the similar priced GE dispenser, the Avanti is MUCH better because of the efficient cooling system. I also like the dispensing buttons and flow much better on the Avanti than the GE. In this price range, this model is fine. If the disadvantages are an issue, then it is necessary to go up in price to something with more features.

Quick update: I'm very satisfied with the dispenser. I don't mind the bottle-top issue, and we can turn it over without any spillage. The bottle sits securely into the opening, so it is stable. I just clean off the top and neck of the water bottle with alcohol before inserting. Works great for nice chilled water!

After reading the reviews I was not sure what to expect. But we are really happy with the water dispenser. It arrived in very good condition. No water leakage etc. We left it in upright position for 2 hours before the first use, and it worked ever since!

I agree with the previous reviews in all the positive aspects and to our biggest surprise, only the very first cups had the 'burned plastic' taste. After the fist 5 gallon bottle, the taste was completely gone. Thumbs up!

Pro:This water dispenser does exactly what we wanted it to.We turned off the cold and just have two temperatures:room temperature and hot. That allows me to drink endless hot drinks made from bottled water without constantly resorting to the microwave.

Con:There isn't enough height under the dispensers to fit a small pitcher under them for making coffee. That is mildly inconvenient.

We had this side by side Whirpool Gold for 8 years and we mistakenly taught it to be a good purchase.

When it broke last May, we found that the parts in the compressor compartment were attached with tie-wraps and Sears service were not even able to fix it anymore (because the fridge was cheaply made but also because they are really incompetent).

So when the Sears tech mentioned that KitchenAid has better warranty and after the third unsuccessful repair we decided to replace the Whirpool crap, we went to look for a KitchenAid. But then we learned that they are all made by Whirpool: KitcheAid, Maytag, and some others too. They all look the same, they all have this stupid water dispenser that you have to keep the door open to use it and they are all the same questionable quality as our old fridge.

We finally decided for the Samsung and so far we are very happy with our decision. Even in the store it was standing away from all the others and it was making a huge impression as a product of a different clas.. We have it only for a week now, so there is no reliability proof yet, but quality wise, you can feed the difference immediatelly. Great finish, quiet, everything works pefeect, and the electronic controls are just great. Everything looks like it was well thaught and designed. Nothing was neglected. Not talking about you having 25.5 cu.ft. where all the other brands have only 22 cu.ft.

Letter to Consumer Reports:

I bought this SAMSUNG RF266ABRS fridge because it was recommended by Consumer Reportsin August 2009. This fridge and other SAMSUNG fridges should be taken off the recommended list because there is an inherent design defect that causes ice buildup on the evaporator coils.

First there is a rattling noise as the fan hits the ice buildup.

Then the noise stops when the ice completely blocks the fan but then there is no more cooling happening.

There is even a class action lawsuit against SAMSUNG fridges:

Please look into this Samsung ice buildup problem. The Samsung fridges should definitively not be on the recommended list but put on the "do not buy" list. The ice buildup issue occurs about 1 year after purchase. SAMSUNG is not acknowledging the problem and does not help its customers.

Letter to SAMSUNG:

I am deeply unsatisfied on how SAMSUNG handled the warranty policy with my SAMSUNG Fridge French Door Model RF266ABRS. This fridge was defective starting Year 1 and was not repaired appropriately the 1st time. All was done on the 1st service visit was to defrost the evaporator not fixing the problem itself.

Of course, the problem reoccurred 1 year later and every year after that. Since the technician explained the problem, how to solve it and SAMSUNG customer service gave me a hard time because it was a few days over the 1 year purchase date, I dealt with it personally by unplugging the unit and let it sit unplug for 24 hours. Not a satisfactory resolution, just a quick workaround, until I got fed up with losing food and asked for SAMSUNG to resolve this problem once and for all.

First this problem should have been resolved the 1st visit. Secondly I learned recently from numerous complaints and videos on the web that this is a defective design in SAMSUNG fridges that causes the ice buildup on the evaporator.

Here is a video showing the defrost sensor modification kit to fix evaporator ice buildup. This is for the SAMSUNG RSH1fridge but it is the same modification that was done on my fridge by the repair technician who came to my house:

Many SAMSUNG fridges have the same cooling design thus sharing the same ice buildup issue.

I was charged $104.68 to fix SAMSUNG own defective design! This is outrageous and no decent company would shift the cost from itself to their customers . It shows utter disrespect for its own customers, not counting the monetary damage. Sir, should I remind you that your customers are your most important assets and should be your priority number one!

SAMSUNG should have done everything in its power to help its loyal customers by fixing its defective fridges FREE OF CHARGE.

The technician explained that he had to move the defrost sensor away from the evaporator in order to let the defrost cycle run longer and completely defrost the evaporator from any ice buildup. He also put a wider drain clip. The older clip was too small. It would get iced up and not let water drain away from the evaporator. There is also a new metal clip that attaches to the heating element and goes inside the drain clip to heat any ice there if needed so the drain cannot get clogged. In addition, a new seal kit put on the market by SAMSUNG 3 months ago was used to seal the evaporator compartment to prevent moisture to get in and improve circulation airflow provided by the fan.

This fridge seemed ideal with all the functionality and deep space, yet compact enough for a Manhattan apartment. But it has some serious structural flaws. Between the cooling cycles it warms up so much that ice cream in freezer melts and the meat (partially) thaws. You can see frost and dew on the bottles etc in the fridge. Then ice maker starts to leak water.

Then everything recools and ice forms again in the ice maker. But because it is formed from the previously melted ice, ice makers gets jammed.

I had 3 different PC Richards technicians come and take a look and they tried everything, including changing the two computer motherboards! But nothing has fixed the problem.

Will try to return it now.
