()I was going to wait a few weeks to review this fridge, but I decided to give a review of my first impressions awhile. I figure this way, if anyone is looking to buy this unit, they will have some more immediate input to look over.

Firstly, the delivery went perfectly smooth. The 2 gentlemen were very polite and professional. They were careful handling the fridge and manuevering it through the house. It was actually fairly quick and very efficient. They called the night before to remind me of the delivery time and then again when they were about a half hour from my house. They offered to remove the old fridge, but we had decided to keep it in the garage to make use of the extra freezer space for now. We have been wanting to buy a chest freezer for down there, but hadn't gotten it yet, so the old fridge will do in the meantime. There was absolutely no damage on the fridge. No dents, bumps or scratches. It looked perfect, and I signed as such on the delivery papers.

The fridge:

Really looks good. Nice shiny black. The body is textured. The handles are smooth, so they wipe right clean if need be. The old fridge was white, with finely textured handles and they would not come clean to save my life. I would scrub and scrub and use every cleaner available, including bleach and you could just not get them back to white. So, this black color is perfect in every way. Body seems as durable and well made as you'd expect a fridge to be.

It is very roomy inside and it doesn't feel like you have to go searching for things. Everything is right there and with the fridge on top it is all eye level. No crouching to get into the drawers either.

This thing is quiet too, which is a nice change from our old fridge. You barely hear it at all, even when right beside.

All shelves, including the shelves/compartments and butter compartment for the door are fully customizable. The door has lips the whole way up and down, so you can place the shelves wherever you want. Putting them on and changing them around is very easy. They have caps on them which cap onto the lips on the door. They do not actually "lock" totally into place. (see flaws below)

The butter compartment is a very nice size.

The glass shelves are sturdy and lock fully into place.

The temperature controls are digital and right up front. There is a separate control for fridge and freezer, which is nice. Each control goes up to 7, but on the unit it states that 4 is the recommended setting. We were told to let the temperature regulate 24 hours before putting fresh/thawed meats in the freezer so that the heat was pulled out from the insulation in the unit, but after 4 hours it seemed ready. I put in a fresh roast and you could tell it was starting to freeze after about 15 minutes. The fridge was also ready in 4 hours and kept everything cold as it should have.

Freezer area is ample enough. It has more space and is better laid out than my top freezer fridge was. There are 2 racks (one slides o top of the other) with dividers that you can place however you want to accomodate your needs/items. They come off easily too if you don't wish to use them. The dividers just clip onto the racks. The freezer drawer slides in and out very smoothly as well. I have it filled to capacity and it still goes along smoothly.

The unit has casters or wheels on the bottom so that you can slide it easily front or backward. Moving it sideways takes a little more push and directive though. I did not put the stoppers on the casters because I like to be able to pull the fridge out every few months and get the dust bunnies out. The casters are really nice to have. Our old fridge did not have them. My kitchen floor is natural stone and moving the old fridge a few times to clean behind it has left nice gouges and scratches in it. The unit does not move or pull forward when I open it or pull the drawers out. That experience though may depend on how well wedged in the fridge is as well as the type of floor you have. In our kitchen, this Amana fridge is solidly wedged in between the wall and the stove, so it doesn't have wiggle room.

It sits very low to the ground, so there is barely any room for anything to slide underneath..bottle caps will not fit under there, no lost jelly beans or beads, so it makes for less clean up, even for dust bunnies. Only something very flat will get under there (for example a popsicle stick laying flat). My old fridge had about an inch of clearance from the floor, so stuff would always get slid underneath.. if the kids dropped a water bottle lid by accident etc for example. No more of those worries now. It is a plus.

Crisper drawers are crystal clear acrylic?/ plastic. A bit light weight and thin, but should hold up fine hopefully. I was a little surprised at the quality or heft of the drawers. Our old fridge was a basic freezer on top 16 cu.ft., lower end GE costing maybe 500 bucks about 8 years ago. The drawers on that were heavier/thicker and seemed more durable, so I guess in my mind I expected at least similar quality with this Amana, given it's hefty price tag. I mean, these aren't necessarily bad, just not what I expected I guess. The drawers each have a humidty control on them as well. As for the size of the drawers, they are pretty large. I was able to fit 3 bags of oranges in one drawer, so that is pretty good. Even with the drawer being stuffed like that, it still slid out smoothly.

The 2 flaws:

1) The crisper drawers do not have stoppers on them. So when you pull them out you pull them right out. You have to purposely stop yourself from pulling it the whole way out. The cheese/deli drawer does have a stopper in the track. Not sure why the crispers don't. The crisper drawer on the side closest to the door hinges gets stopped by the door, so that one is no issue, but the other one will fly right out without hesitation. I've double checked to make sure they are on the tracks correctly and removed and replaced them etc, but they seem to be on correctly and just have no type of stopper to them.

2) The compartments on the side of the door do not totally lock into place. So if you were removing something from a compartment and bump the underneath of the compartment above it, it will pop off. Hopefully they can come up with a better idea for the compartments in the future. I just forsee my children grabbing the ketchup etc and bumping the upper compartment and everything falling, including the compartment itself. It is definitely something to be mindful of.

I knocked off one star for these 2 flaws. Otherwise, I am happy with every other aspect so far. If any problems arise or any other notable things come to mind, I will definitely update the review.

Buy Amana 21.9 cu. ft. Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator, ABB2224WEB, Black Now

I've had this refrigerator for 6 years. I had to replace the defrost thermostat about 3 weeks ago...now it appears to have gone bad again. (The refrigerator gets warmer but the freezer still works.)The handle to the freezer is a pain because it comes loose about once a year and even thou I tighten it every time, I still have to get the manual out to try to remember how and even the last repair guy I had out said when he worked on one he couldn't get it either then it just "clicked" and he still doesn't know what he did. It does have good storage room thou which is important when I buy 6 gallons of milk each grocery trip.

No more stooping to see what's for dinner unless it's in the freezer. But the freezer has 2 drawers that pull out, so it's easy to see what's in there. To a tall person, this is a well-designed Energy Star appliance. Adjustable glass shelves let you customize the inside of the frig to your liking. There are 2 humidity-controlled crispers and one pull-out dairy/cheese drawer. The door is thick and has a large butter compartment that will hold more than 1 lb. of butter. There is also room in the door for a dozen eggs in their original carton. Iced tea and soda bottles easily fit in the bottom of the door. I prefer the single door model to the French door versions. No exposed coils on the back of the machine to break like my old frig. It quietly operates but does seem to run frequently (of course, that may be due to the record heat this summer). An ice-maker is NOT included, but is an option. I like to make my own ice and 3 standard ice cube trays fit neatly in the top drawer of the freezer. The exterior of the unit has a black crinkled finish, not smooth, so it hides fingerprints well. Splurge for the delivery and set-up. It was well worth the $40 or so. I still saved over $200 buying from Amazon over a local retailer that wanted to charge $59 for delivery of less than 20 miles. Very satisfied with this purchase.

ive been renting apartments for years now, and ive hated my fridges for at least the last 4 years, so i broke down and bought my own, after alot of research i found this amana model, and i love it.

it has a ton of freezer space, and more fridge space then i could have wished for, room for my zero water holding tank (we have bad hard water where i live so this is a must) gallons of milk or other drink jugs, cubes of soda, and all my food leftovers and cold stores.

i will mention one potential con of this unit, if i ever move again, it weighs in at like 350 pounds, and its gonna be a PITA to move it.

()Incredibly spacious and with a sleek look, the Amana bottom-freezer refrigerator has revitalized my kitchen and thankfully replaced my much less roomy old fridge. The interior compartment is very deep, allowing for plenty of room for putting your groceries, and as a serious plus literally all of the shelves and containers are fully customizable. You can put any of them pretty much anywhere and at any height, to accommodate for larger items like soda bottles or smaller items like leftover Tupperware containers. The side compartments inside the door are also easily large enough to hold a full gallon of milk or large container of juice, which was a complaint I had with my smaller last fridge.

The bottom pull-out style freezer has two separate areas for storing frozen goods and is equally customizable, with plastic dividers that can be put in different areas to meet your storage needs. Temperature controls are located right up front at the top of the fridge interior, making it simple to change the temperature in either the fridge or freezer. So far in my experience the fridge has also been virtually silent.

There are rollers located on the bottom so it's easy to maneuver the fridge in a kitchen and you don't end up having to "walk" it back into a corner. The handles can also be removed if the fridge won't fit through a door, although this process requires a tuning key that isn't included, so you'll have to make a trip down to the hardware store if you don't happen to already have the right sized tool handy.

While it has an amazing amount of storage room, for the asking price it seems strange that this Amana doesn't come with an icemaker, although it is wired for one and you can add one in later. The only other complaint I've had with it so far is that the seals are almost too effective, as I've noticed sometimes after closing the door that it's difficult to re-open it right away, but I suspect that will fix itself as the fridge is used more often and broken in.Those are pretty minor issues though, and I'm definitely very happy with this unit and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new fridge who doesn't absolutely have to have an ice maker.

Hamilton Beach 67801 Health Smart Juice Extractor, Black

Hamilton Beach 67801 Health Smart Juice Extractor, BlackThis is more for the person who is a casual "juicer". It works well for what it is. A few things I would change: The hopper is too small, you have to cut your produce to size to fit in the shoot. The side flaps are flimsy and seem like they could break easily, so be gentle with them. Cleaning up the juicer is a messy pain. Having said that, great deal for the price and I would recommend it as a BUY for the casual juicer.

i like this juicer a lot, it is pretty quiet and powerful. its true it does leave a bit of pulp at the end, but i just freeze the pulp to use later in soup. great juicer for the price!!

For the money ($25), this was a good value. The hopper is too small. You must slice everything down to a small size.Overall, I am happy.

I wanted to get a juicer because I wanted to try out juicing because of the health benefits of juicing. I purchased this juicer because it was inexpensive and seemed like it would be a good starter juicer and I didn't want to make a huge investment on a really expensive one if it wasn't something I was going to stick with. I'm actually still using it after about a year. The mouth is narrow so you do have to cut things up a little smaller which is a little time consuming and you do get quite a bit of pulp but I'm not really sure if that's normal since I've never used another juicer. Overall I'm happy with it. It's doing the job for my juicing about three times a week.

The juicer does leave lots of pulp, granted, but look at it not as a "juicer" but as a "juicer/pulper combo". Here are some extremely basic ideas for tomato and carrot pulp:

Tomato pulp Chop up some onions, green pepper, garlic, and cilantro, throw in some lemon juice and olive oil, add your favorite spices, and turn it into a nice salsa.

Carrot pulp Throw it into the slow cooker, mix a tablespoon or two or three of peanut butter into some chicken broth. Cover the pulp with the broth. Make sure the broth covers all the pulp. Mix in a dash or two or three of ground pepper and a dash or two or three of ground nutmeg. Put on low, go about your business, and come back in four hours. Serve it with a tad of chopped cilantro, lemon juice and olive oil on top.

I bought the white version of this refrigerator, and was very disappointed. It's overpriced, the auto-defrost is not fully automatic, and the refrigerator portion of my unit froze water at the lowest setting.Worst of all, manufacturer Summit / Felix Storch did not honor its one-year warranty, nor refund my money, despite having picked up the unit. It's been 7 months and counting...I recommend either buying a cheap compact refrigerator, or suck it up and buy a normal unit that is frost-free.

My first impression after removing the unit from the carton was "Wow!" I can't believe I paid nearly $900 for this! I'll have to wait to evaluate the performance but the assembly (Mexico) and exterior are sub-standard for a $900 refrigerator. The door is not aligned well with the cabinet. The rails on the door shelves are cheap, flimsy plastic. Three screws on the rear that hold a metal cover plate were stripped due to being over-driven and had to be replaced. The tape that held the door for shipping left a white sticky residue on the cabinet that had to be cleaned with paint thinner. SUMMIT sure gets a lot of money for a fairly average compact refrigerator.

I used this as a replacement for a built-in refrigerator on a boat. The RV/Boat replacement refrigerator was $700. Ok... with the Avanti, no ice. But $500+ price difference buys a lot of ice! The RV/Boat refrigerator did have an transfer switch that allow for automatic AC to DC transfer when the AC was shut off. I don't mind doing it manually for the 10% of the time where I need to use DC. Lastly, the Avanti documentation clearly states that the unit should not be placed in a confined space and proper air flow is required. There seems to be enough space around the unit where I built it in so that the heat is dissipated. Inside temperature seems to be consistently 38 degrees. Highly recommend the Avanti 1.7 Cu. Ft. AC/DC Superconductor Refrigerator.

RCA RMW741 0.7 Cubic Foot Microwave, Stainless Steel Design

RCA RMW741 0.7 Cubic Foot Microwave, Stainless Steel DesignI've had this microwave for about a year and am moderately happy with it.

Pluses:

It's quite small, so it fits in a space under the counter that works well in my kitchen. I wasn't able to find many options in this size.

It's a little more attractive than in the picture. It's shiny stainless steel.

The door handle is easy to work with and keep clean.

Minuses:

The door is completely opaque, so you can't see what's going on with your food.

There's no "minute plus" button, so you have to enter times manually. It's easy (at least for me) to accidentally hit a number twice, so I'll enter 13 minutes instead of 1:30. To change this, you have to stop it and then click on a "reset" button that is a little hard to find. There are no big buttons for simple tasks.

The 'popcorn' button does not work well at all. My last microwave would cook bagged popcorn to perfection. I could put it in and walk away and it wouldn't burn. With this one, only about 1/3 of the popcorn will pop with the default setting. Adding time hasn't helped that much either. For some reason the bags will often split before the corn pops.

The rotating dish seems to slip out of its track very easily, causing it to rattle around.

General:

It beeps about 5 times when it's done. If you don't open the door, it will beep again after a while. And again, and again. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I like this feature.

The RCA 0.7 Cubic Food Microwave RMW741 works good so far. I have not had it long; but it worked right out of the box. It is easy to use; but I had to read the instructions first.

It beeps when it is finished cooking. Then it beeps again to remind you that there is food still inside if you don't take it out.

The control panel is easy to use. The areas to push for the different functions are easier to push and use than my previous microwave.

The clock was easy to set. It has been easy to use. I use a silicon mesh screen over the food that I cook to prevent splattering food inside the microwave otherwise the inside plastic liner can melt away from the cooking food stuck on the surfaces.

This 700 watt (output) microwave draws 1050 watts. It cooks in less time than my old 700 watt microwave two minutes less in cooking time.

You cant see through the door to the items being cooked or heated.

It has worked good so far.

I cook a large sized chicken thigh in 15 minutes with this microwave and a small chicken thigh in 8 minutes.

I had it for two days and used it less than 10 times. I was timing something and it started to smell like burning plastic and just turned off. When I touched it, the whole outside of it was very hot. I had to pack it up and send it back.

We bought this microwave because of it size and price.

OMG, its horrible:can't see thru window(?)in door; gets fingerprints just looking at it!;

beeping is LOUD; slides around on countertop; 'touch' buttons are hard to press;

AND WORST OF ALL will not shut off from cooking (even after pressing stop) if food gets done quicker than expected!!!

AND there is no -800 number anywhere and if u ask a question online, u have to pay 4 it!!

Insanity.

DO NOT BUY RCA MICROWAVES esp this one!!

Want RCA RMW741 0.7 Cubic Foot Microwave, Stainless Steel Design Discount?

I bought this for my office and it does the job perfectly. It's small enough and it is really nice looking, with a stainless steel-type finish. Only thing that some people may not like is that the door is mirrored. some people like to keep an eye on their food while cooking to make sure it doesnt overflow or explode. I use the mirrored door to reapply my lipstick, so it all works out in the end.

Whirlpool WTW4800XQ Top-Loader Washer

I spent some time reviewing both Consumers Reports and customer reviews from Amazon and the like before purchasing a washer.

I noted a number of complaints about the new, "efficient" washers in general (not specifically Whirlpool):

1. They don't wash as clean

2. They don't rinse properly, leaving detergent residue on clothes

3. They wrinkle clothing during the new (much faster) spin cycle

4. They are noisy and take more time to do a load.

The main problem is that they all use less water than the old "Inefficient" washers, and the water they do use is cooler. Also, they often only "spin rinse" where they spin out the washing water and then spray in some fresh water while still spinning. (This is in place of a proper, old-fashioned rinse, where the clothes are agitated in a tub of fresh water.)All these changes (I won't call them improvements) are in order to save water and, more specifically, to save the energy used to heat the water. In addition, they spin much faster to get out more water so that you subsequently use less energy in the dryer.

Nice in theory, but the washing results often aren't as good.

My solution to this was to look for a washer with the most manual adjustments on it; and I chose to purchase the Whirlpool WTW4800XQ, having first READ THE MANUAL online.I discovered that, for lightly soiled clothes, I can (and do) use the "Casual Regular" cycle, which has a proper rinse instead of the spin rinse. This option also spins at a lower speed, causing less wrinkling.I can also choose my own water level. Thus, I'm basically back to how our old washer worked, with good results.

If I have to use the "Normal Regular" cycle for more-soiled clothes, it will only do a spin-rinse, but I have the option with this washer of adding a second rinse to the cycle in case one won't do.

The Whirlpool won't solve complaint #4, although I don't find it terribly noisy, just different. A "Normal Regular" wash, large load, with additional spin-rinse, took 75 minutes; a "Casual Regular" wash, medium load, took 55 minutes.

All in all, a good, basic washer that I have good control over, and at a very reasonable price: If you don't do dozens of washes a month, you don't need a high-efficiency washer that will cost you many hundreds of dollars more.

WHIRLPOOL WTW4800XQ

Here is the breakdown.

THE' PROS:

Large capacity

Gets Clothes clean

THE' CONS:

*The overly sensitive computer

*The lid lock failure

*Tendency to go out of balance easily

*Holes in clothes

*Hot water valve may melt in time

*Chewed up several items in just a week.

*No hot water. (The machine will automatically add cold water to hot so you get cold or tepid water, not even warm). My hot water in July was 100 degrees. This is barely warm.My water temp is 148 degrees but machine will not allow you to use hot water or even warm water.

*No soak feature

*Not very quiet, makes strong computer noises. Some reviewers say it is like a hack saw. I don't think it is that bad but it is not quiet in a condo environment.

*USLESS 'Technical Dept. (Whirlpool tech dept seems to have no training. You might as well pull a girl off the register at your local market for help.)

I had read there were a few people who had trouble with the lid lock not working correctly. I thought it was just an oddball. I had to return the unit because the lid lock would not allow water into the machine as it kept locking and unlocking. (yes! the water was on!). The first load was fine. The second wash load the lid lock would not stop locking and unlocking after one hour. I'made sure the clothes were evenly balanced in the machine. So'I unplugged the machine and let it rest for 15 minutes. The same process happened again--I let the machine lock and unlock for an hour. I'unplugged it again and let it rest. Tried this several times over 24 hours to no avail. The store I bought the machine from sent a repairman. He did not fix it--the machine just happened to work. When the repairman left I did a load ('this was my third load of wash since I bought the machine) and the same thing happened. It was quite arduous to get my money back.

What is supposed to happen?--The lid lock will lock and unlock until it feels the load is balanced. This is normal. But it is not normal if the machine locks and unlocks for hours. This is what happened to me.

Also when I went to go purchase another washer from another store, the manager said they had a lot of problems with the WTW4800XQ because in time the hot water valve would melt. Yes, according to this manager of the store just 120 degree water out of the tap was enough to deform the hot water valve. He thinks Whirlpool has been trying to remedy this problem. But he could not say for sure if they fixed this error. Whew! I feel I dodged a bullet with this machine

PAY ATTENTION to those people who say that they have a lid lock failure and the machine goes out of balance easily. These are real problems and I encountered them both plus holes in my clothes.

This WTW4800XQ got the clothes clean but it did not work consistently and it went out of balance frequently and easily. My new SpeedQueen 432 is a dream of a washer. Read my other review on SpeedQueen 432 to see how amazing this machine is and what you need to be aware of with the new government regulations.

After my WhirlPool WTW4800XQ washer was installed, I did a few

loads and there was a spot about the size of a quarter under the

machine. The next day after using the machine most of the day,

there was a small puddle of brownish oil/water with surrounding

brownish spray under the machine. It appears the washer leaked

water and also a significant amount of oil.

I detected the leak by sliding a white plastic tray top from a

storage container under the machine, but I expect that newspaper

slid under the machine would also work.If I had not done this,

then I probably wouldn't have been aware of this leak, since I

normally don't do a lot of laundry.

Another reviewer described the sound this washer makes as

"eeee eeee eeee eeee" which is pretty accurate.I am not certain

but given other internet reviews, I assume this sound is normal

for this machine.I think the loudness went down as I did more

loads and with higher water levels. After a while I didn't

notice the sound.

I had no problems with the lid lock feature, at least during Fill

and early in the Wash cycle. The lid unlocked quickly every time

I tested it.

I liked the fact that I could just press Start if I used the same

settings as before. There was no need to rotate a dial back to the

same position as the last load.

I would have kept this machine if it didn't leak. All I need is a

basic washing machine but the leak seemed to imply poor

reliability/longevity and this factor is very important to me.

My new washer doesn't even fill enough to cover the clothes... so how can they call this thing a "washing machine?"It's truly an expensive laundry basket. Not only do the clothes NOT get washed and rinsed properly, but the agitator beats the Hell out of the clothes.I called Whirlpool's customer service and found the representative belligerent. The machine is going back immediately, and I've lost all faith in the Whirlpool company. If they can engineer and dump a unit such as this on their customers, and then treat them like dirt, there's no end to how they are willing to scam us.NO WHIRLPOOL PRODUCTS... EVER!

Just got this a week ago to replace a piece of junk, moldy, expensive, Neptune front loader that should have gone to the scrapyard the day I got it.This machine is a third the price and twice as good.A basic, top loading machine with an agitator in the middle.REAL knobs to adust!Perfect for our small family.Purchased at Best Buy and the price was great, the delivery even better. My wife and I both wanted just a basic machine (like we grew up with). I read some bad reviews on this machine but most looked like people didn't read the instructions or were expecting too much from this basic washer. We have already done a bunch of loads and I am not sure there is a better machine for the money.$408 delivered with the old one haulded away,Sears wanted a hundred extra for that!
