The problem was the filter itself. The gasket around the top of the filter was too big. It didn't fit and caused a major leak out of the fridge, and even made it down to the lower level making a very big mess. I replaced the gasket with the one around the old filter and its working ok now, although the water doesn't really taste very good, but maybe that will go away.
Water didn't taste right after replacing with my original filters. I have never had trouble with the compatible filters before.

The filter fit my Samsung fridge that uses a DA29-00020A filter. It doesn't seem to be quite as long as the old filter but it works and was a lot less $$ than a Samsung filter.
