I bought one of these units hoping that it will give me a constant temperature throughout the year to age my wine, but it is way too cold for it.Even at the "warmest" setting, the fridge was running at 9 degrees C (48 F).I called Danby and they sent a serviceman to check out the fridge. He recorded the back of the fridge to be 2 degrees C (36 F), and he kept saying this is not a wine cooler but more like a beer cooler!

After going through 3 bad fridges..... FINALLY we found this one! We love this wine fridge!! No problems w/ the temperature or storage. Awesome wine fridge that does what it is supposed to and looks good while doing it. We are thrilled w/ our purchase!I knew this particular one would look somewhat cheap (plastic finish rather than stainless steel, thin interior walls, limited features), but for the price I figured I could live with that. However, what was unacceptable about this one was temperature and noise. I was hoping that I wouldn't get the unit with these issues that were mentioned by others, but I did unfortunately.
First of all, the temperature. Top shelves had ice on them! I guess if I wanted my wine that cold, I just could have thrown it in my freezer.
Second, the noise. The compressor itself is pretty quiet. However, my unit made roaring and whooshing noises like an old refrigerator. Annoying at the very least, but also led me to think something more serious could be wrong. Worst of all though was the popping noise that literally sounded like the glass was cracking. I'm guessing this was due to expansion and contraction of the glass with fluctuations in temperature, but would they not have an expansion joint or something on the edges of the glass to prevent this noise?
All in all, I got a lemon, and I returned it today (after 2 days of usage). I'm not taking my chances on another unit of the same model since it's a pain to unpack and pack. I say steer clear of this model.

ORIGINAL: I bought this because I was tired of the expensive, plastic vacuums falling apart within the first year of use. While this vacuum is incredibly powerful (indeed it sucks the area rugs right off the floor) it's not the indestructible stainless steel canister vacuum of my childhood. Within the first 4 months a rivet broke loose from the canister, making it impossible to close the vacuum. I tape it shut for use now. One wheel drags as well, leaving long black scuff marks on my white floors. I'm underwhelmed, but perhaps the manufacturer will make good on the warranty.I bought this vacuum for a few reasons:
1) All the brand name vacuums listed on consumer reports have user reviews that said the vacuums were not that good
2) the user reviews for this vacuum were much higher, albeit fewer people, but I looked at both models too.
3) The reviews of this vacuum made it sound like it was amazing
I am truly wondering if the previous reviewers all worked for the company.
While I will say this IS a good vacuum, it does not live up to the hype and quite frankly lacks some key modern features or has some poor quality aspects
1) The cord just hangs out there with no place to go.You can wrap it around the body but that is a pain in the @$$.
2) The spare attachments hang onto a flimsy plastic carrier that poorly snaps onto the vacuum tube/pole
3) the long pole attachment (not the set that goes to the power nozzle but the other long one for the non powered attachments) does not clip.As you are vacuuming the pole will frequently fall off onto the floor.
4) The documentation / instructions for this vacuum are very poor at best. All you basically get is a poor quality single sheet of paper with very vague instructions. When you unwrap the vacuum, you have 4 poles and it takes a while to figure out why 4 (2 for the power nozzle and 2 for non power). No help from the directions. All it says is to attach the poles. You also are left wondering about the bag and filter insertion. there is absolutely nothing about proper installation.
5) You have two power buttons. One on the main body of the vacuum and one for the power nozzle. When using the power nozzle this design makes no sense at all.You have to turn the body power on, and then you have to turn the power nozzle power on. When you shut the power nozzle off, the vacuum is still running and still needs to be shut off.The button on the body is a toggle switch. Low to the left, Off in the middle, and High to the right. It takes some getting used to when trying to switch it off to not go completely from low-high (or high-low) instead of stopping in the middle.
The vacuum has very good suction, but it certainly won't suck the chrome off a trailer hitch. :-)
minus 1 star for horrible documentation
minus 1 star for dumb power controls
minus 1 star for nothing modern on the features/attachments
I almost wanted to give another minus 1 star for not living up to the hype.
I am not totally disappointed with the vacuum. It basically works fine. And I am not sure how happy I would be with the brand name vacuums with so many real people rating them low. I might still buy this vacuum if I did it again. But my expectations would be much lower.
UPDATE 12/27/2009: OK its been 3 months and I would change the stars to 0.My wife says she clearly hates this vacuum and I have to agree it is a pain in the @$$ to use.It works as a vacuum just fine but how you use it is such a pain it makes the thought of going around and picking up each piece of dirt by hand sound more attractive. Clearly previous reviewers had to be employees of the company and were forced to leave positive comments.
We just opened the box. It took all of 5 minutes to put it together. First thing I checked was the suction. It was great. Two negatives, no auto cord recoil and the exhaust is loud. It is well built, glides nicely along the floor, comes with all the accessories, including two extra chrome metal wands, has a powerful rug beater and the bare floor nozzle has great bristles. It is light weight so it is easy to carry up the stairs and makes it OK to clean the stairs, although I wish the hose was longer. We have had all types of vacuums, Oreck upright, sharp canister, Hoover canister, shop vacs, etc. After all is said and done, when you get right down to it, you have to use a canister vac if you want to really clean. It allows you to get the dirt and dust in those hard to reach places and an upright is simply not going to cut it. We looked at all the vacs, Electrolux, Dyson, Eureka, Kenmore, Bla, Bla, Bla, Ba Bla. Based on price, performance, ease of use, durability and good old SUCTION!, this Metro is the sucker of all house vacs, bar none. It has a toggle switch for low and high suction and the power head is well made. My wife just made a comment that it is LOUD, but man it really feels like the house is clean!! Go for it!!!The classic look of the Metro was what caught my eye, and then I was seduced by the horsepower and the fact that this machine is made in the USA.I have long said that if some American company really wanted to reclaim its market from China, all they needed to do was go back to building a vacuum cleaner that is built to last, rather than disposable. In fact, if the US were serious about helping the environment, Congress should pass legislation against the planned obsolescence that is the guiding principle of the vacuum cleaner industry.
But I digress. What came out of the box was, well, a canister.Steel, with chrome-plated ends--not as pretty as pictured; quite utilitarian-looking and mostly reminiscent of a tin can. There was a nice, sturdy-looking hose, quality steel wands, and one very cheesy, probably Chinese, powerhead.Oh, and some equally cheesy small attachments: an undersized upholstery attachment, crevice tool, and dust brush.
The steel is a unique look, and the body and wheels seemed sturdy. The switch is indeed a plain metal three-position toggle. The cord wraps around a "halo" of metal at the rear end.One disturbing feature is that the hose is secured by metal pushbuttons into the bag compartment. This means that in order to remove the hose (say, to clear a clog or use as a blower), you have to remove the bag lid.I was afraid to push the hose into the exhaust opening (which would be necessary to clear a clog or use as a blower) for fear that the pushbuttons would make it impossible to remove. The "instructions" consist of a single sheet of Xeroxed paper containing very little useful information.Bags are hard to find;the ones offered here on Amazon are NOT the right ones for this machine, and I ordered more by calling the manufacturer, since their website was essentially useless.
This is not what I'd expect from a machine at this price point, but for "Made in USA" and power I put it to work, and power it does deliver--though with some tradeoffs. The canister, for its plain looks, works well, but as previous reviewers noted, it does get very hot during use.It BLASTS air out the back end--which my kids found fun, but which meant that I had to hold it pointing upward so as to avoid blowing dust across the hard floors I was vacuuming. The power was substantial enough to actually USE one of the turbo-brush stair tools that were absolutely useless with the Bissell machines they came with.Noise was significant, but not awful--much of it the sound of that rushing exhaust. There was some odor of burning rubber, maybe from the powerhead, and several kids complained that the exhaust stunk.
Moreover, the powerhead rattled. And when I opened it up to find out why (a nasty process involving two sizes of screwdrivers), I saw that a part was broken during manufacture--not surprising, because this powerhead is made of extremely cheap components which can't withstand the stress of being screwed into place.Worse still, I noted that I was going to have to screw and unscrew this cheap plastic each time a change of belt was required.Replacement powerheads are a hundred dollars from the manufacturer--and probably worth about five.(For the record, I noticed this same chintzy powerhead with a Royal canister vac in the store, albeit with some cosmetic changes.)
So, mine's on its way back to Amazon, and I've sprung for an even more expensive, German machine that will (hopefully) last awhile.
I don't know why I did not buy one sooner. This thing could suck the chrome off of a trailer hitch!!! I live in an older home and it actually took a piece off old wall paper that had been painted right off of the wall. I'm telling you, this is the vacuum to beat all vacuums. I have told everyone I know to buy one and not waste their money on store brand. I love it!!! I named mine Wilma. These guys know what they are doing.

I bought this mini fridge for my bedroom so I could have snacks available during my long recuperation from surgery.I followed all the appropriate directions but the fridge died in less than year. It first started making a loud grinding noise off and on, then one day when it started smelling like it was on fire I gave up. When I contacted the company they told me there was only a 30 day return policy and they could not replace it since it is no longer being produced (but it's still for sale here?). They offered a 10% discount for another product from their store but why would I want to buy from them again?Danby DCF401W CHEST FREEZER DCF401W

I ordered this freezer through Walmart online and I just got home to set it up. The instruction manual says it will be ready in about 2 hours and I should turn down the thermostat to the 2 o'clock detting. OK, when I got home I immediately set it up and I could hear the motor running. I thought yay! my freezer!!! Several hours later (8 hours to be exact) I checked to see if it was cold and to turn down the thermostat... it's still very hot on the inside! :( I tried calling the customer service center and they are not open right now. I called Walmart to see about returning it. I'm very unhappy and dissappointed in my freezer. I have been searching for a smaller deep freezer for about 20 years. It is just me and my husband and we do not need a big freezer. I will be calling the service center in the morning to see if there is something else I need to do to get it to work properly. If not, I'm taking it back... out of the box and all!Swift Green Repl. for LG 5321JA2006A

The honeymoon ended quickly though, when we found that we could not get the temp to go below 49 degrees, which is pretty tepid for any cold beverage and absolutely unacceptable for beer.We tried everything, reread instructions, etc. You can only set it on a dial, there no indication of what the temp actually is...so we bought a thermometer and got the bad news that despite being on the coldest setting possible, we weren't getting below 49-50, which according to the thermometer we bought is actually in the "danger" zone of letting bacteria breed.
So, we call the manufacturer who says that we should have know it is a "cooler" not a fridge and will only keep beverages 20 degrees cooler than the ambient temp in the house. What a crock!!!!!!
So, we're stuck with a piece of equip that barely cools things down.
I suggest anyone interested in purchasing these things, now matter the price, be well informed between the differences of cooler and refrigerator.I have learned an expensive lesson.

Reading all the other reviews of this product......you have to blame the error of the customers and not the product itself. If you have ever owned a Wine Fridge.....you know it is NOT a refrigerator....that is not its purpose. If the other reviewers wanted a beverage holder that was able to keep food in it or keep beverages below 40degrees....then they should have gotten a REFRIGERATOR...not a wine fridge/chiller.
So knowing that....let us give an honest and realistic review of this item based on what it was actually designed for.
This unit while not the highest frills of wine chillers is attractive with a stainless steel trim on the door and a glass front and a black body. The door is reversible and it has an internal blue LED interior light you can turn on/off depending on your mood. It does not have a Temperature indicator with a simple dial for temperature with MIN to MAX indicators. It is simple and attractive.....and given its price....thats to be expected. I purchased a suction cup thermometer that faces out and mounts to the interior of the glass door for like 2$.
It comes with 4 adjustable racks and the nice bonus of a bottom storage area rack that has not been present in other wine chillers I have purchased. It allows you to stack cans on the bottom on their side so they don't roll out.
My unit is new and I purchased it as it is replacing an old Urbina thermoelectric wine chiller that finally crapped out after 2.5 years (It was dirt cheap so no big whoop). We will see if this unit is the exception.
Lets be honest......these units don't tend to last more than 3 years on average so if you are worried about that a higher end unit may be to your liking....but you will pay a pricey premium for actual fridge-like beverage centers like GE's.....or just invest in a long extended warranty so you can be re-imbursed should it fail within 3 years (this is what I did).
This unit unlike my old model has an actual compressor and sealed coolant system which is a luxury at this price range....usually you are getting a thermo-electric cooling system at prices below 200$.
I will update my review in the coming months but so far my unit on MAX is cooling better than expected with an average of 33F below room temp:
(Current Results = Room Temp 75F / Cooler Temp 42F )
* NOTE: Cooler is in a shaded corner away from direct sunlight...and this is also one of the 'newer' models in stores now.
Hopefully this informed and realistic review will help others. This is good unit for the price if you want a beverage chiller. It is similar to units they use at bars and convenience stores on or near the counter. Your beverages will be chilled but they will not be ice cold. Your white wine will be in the perfect temperature range (depending on the temp of your home or room)......which is exactly what this unit was designed for.

The fridge looks great, would be a perfect for beer, and I thought would be perfect for my bar.Only problem is that it is junk.It does not get cold whatsoever.Might as well stick your beer outside at night to get it cooler.Do not buy unless you know how to rig the thermostat.Having read the reviews about the lowest temperature this gets to, I was skeptical, but decided to buy this one anyway.Mostly because of the price and the fact that it fit almost perfectly in the space where the old one was.Although this is NOT meant for built in spaces, I had a planned workaround.Anyway, my first tests were with the fridge in the middle of an 80F room with plenty of air circulation and no direct sun.Note that this unit does not have a condenser fan (the fan on the back of most larger refrigerators).Instead, the coils are behind the side panels, so they do get very warm.Anyway, because there is no fan, you should not use it built in.
So how did it do?I used a temperature logging device with my laptop and a power meter. On the maximum setting, it cycles on for 30-45 minutes and then off for about 30 minutes. It uses about 80 watts when on (0 watts when off, unless you have the LED's on so maybe a watt) and the temperature ranged from 35F to 45F with a median temperature of 41 (that's what a can of beer or soda would be at any given time because of its thermal mass).
80 watts seemed like a lot of energy for such a small unit, but since Amazon doesn't provide energy data for these, there's no way to compare.
Just for grins, I tried putting the unit in the cabinets (with 1/2" side clearance, 2" on top and 4" in the back) with no modifications. While it did cool about as well as in the open, it ran almost continuously, turning off only for about 5 minutes every 2 hours. That would be a huge energy hog so what I did was put a ~5" diameter muffin fan in the side of the cabinet such that it drew cool air from an adjacent area (the drawer section) and exhausted it into the area where the fridge is.Since the only openings were towards the front, that gave good circulation all around.I had an old Sears Craftsman power switch that I wasn't using (the kind normally used to turn on an accessory when a tool is turned on) that now turns the fan on whenever it senses the fridge is running. The added fan draws 10 watts, but it keeps the fridge from running constantly so it will save electricity. In fact, it may actually may run less than when it was in the open because of the added air circulation.
I find the unit is quiet (sorry don't have a decibel meter), but it is in the family room where the TV is and is not objectionable.Even when it was out in the open and not in the cabinet, it wasn't too loud.
I wish it was more energy efficient, but considering the price it is a good buy.
UPDATE 8-9-12:
I found that having the blue LED lights on affects the temperature inside. That's because the power supply for the LED is in a section of the housing where the thermostat is.If you have the lights on all the time, they generate a small amount of heat which makes the thermostat think the whole fridge is warmer. Thus it will run longer and get the inside about 5 degrees colder. This could explain why some people say the temperature inside is too warm.If you want to get it colder, try turning ON the blue LEDs!
I lowered my initial rating from 4 to 3 stars because of poor Haier customer service.I needed to get a new plastic plug that covers the hole in the door left from reversing the hinges (it was jammed in so tight and it is soft plastic so it got mashed up when I tried to remove it).The manufacturer basically said too bad, you have to buy a new one! This is for a part that couldn't cost more than a quarter.

We received the unit in mid-April. I unpacked the until and let it sit in our kitchen for 36 hours to allow the oil in the unit to settle. I then installed the unit in the built-in place and set the temperature. The first 2 months the unit worked without significant issue. I would certainly not call it quite but it was not horrible. It did not drowned out the living room TV, but if the TV is off you could certainly tell the fridge was running.
The trouble began in month 3. We noticed the unit rattled. I move the unit out of the area and ensured the bolts were all tight and the motor area was clean. The issue went away. Then we have a power outage. Once it was back on the unit did NOT go back to its previous settings. I was highly disappointed in this result.
In August we started to see the unit fail. The temperate in the unit would not remain where we set it. A setting of 45 only dropped the temperature down to 60. I though the circuitry might need to be reset, so I turned the unit off and unplugged it. I then set it up again out side of the built in area. The unit worked fine outside of the cabinet. I then took measurements to make sure we had proper clearance all around the unit. It did. I then slid the unit half way into its spot. The temperate went up from 45 to 55.
I then contacted Edgestar support. I was told to ensure the coils were cleaned. To do this I emptied the unit and put it on its back after unplugging it. Then i wiped down the coils which were not dirty at all. I again allowed the unit to settle for 36 hours. After plugging it in it returned to 45 degrees outside the cabinet. Push it into place and the temperature shot up to 60.
I contacted Edgestar again and I was told I'd have to ship the unit to their warehouse, pre-pay at least $70.00 to cover the first hour of labor cost, and pay to ship it back. I am VERY lucky though as their warehouse is in Austin, Tx, where I live. However, to two-way ship something of this size plus pay for labor, it would cost nearly 40% of a new unit. I asked if they provide information for local contractors and they stated they do not have recommendations.
The fact this unit has a 90 day labor warranty and I have to ship such a large appliance back to a warehouse is very disappointing. Given the reviews on BBB and around the internet, I would STRONGLY advise you NOT TO PURCHASE from this company and definitely DO NO PURCHASE this product.

We thought we did enough research on Edgestar products. Boy, were we wrong. The unit started having difficulty about 6 months after we got it. It started making rattling noises, so my husband unplugged it for a couple of days. When we plugged it back in, it seemed to work fine without the noise. A few weeks later, it went out. We were in the middle of moving and just did not have the time to deal with it. Once we did, we called the customer service only to be told that it was out of warranty (which is only 90 days)and there was nothing they would do. We took it to a local appliance repairman and he said the compressor was bad and it was not worth getting a new one. So disappointed after spending $800 and only getting 6 months of good use out of it. I will never buy another Edgestar product again.Read Best Reviews of New EdgeStar 46 Btl Built-In Dual Zone Wine Cooler Here
We purchased this wine cooler to replace a Magic Chef MC44DZ.My Magic Chef worked great for 2 years then quit. After waiting for 4 months for a compressor part that was covered under warranty I paid $180 to have it installed. The unit was so loud you could hear it in every room of the house and it would not cool either zone.Several phone calls to MC customer service proved totally useless threw the unit away will never buy another MC product again and don't recommend them to anyone.
We searched and searched for wine coolers in this capacity and price range before we ran across one that met all our requirements:# of good reviews, quiet, freestanding/built-in, dual-zone.We purchased from Living Direct with a 5yr. warranty product arrived without issue and was well packed.
The quality of the unit is much better than what we had.The door is solid double-pane glass with sturdy stainless steel surround. The wine racks are pretty solid, but the other reviews that talk about larger bottles not fitting are accurate only a tall slender 750ML works perfect for front & back stacking (reason for 4 instead of 5 stars). If you don't have the unit totally full of wine this shouldn't be a huge problem.Unit hit perfect temperatures very quickly and runs very quiet. The blue lighting looks great at night doesn't quite reach all the way to the bottom, but there are lights @ the top and under the middle divider.
Would highly recommend this unit.
Update 1/2013
A few weeks back the unit quit cooling. No noises or indicators, just happened to see both temperatures ~ 77 degrees.Contacted RepairMaster to initiate "in-house" warranty that we paid $100 something for @ time of purchase. Two weeks later no phone call from anyone.Contacted RepairMaster again (very lengthy on-hold times) finally got to someone that said EdgeStar appliances were ONLY repaired @ the factory and they would not ship parts to local repairmen.Contacted EdgeStar technical support and confirmed with factory in Austin, TX that the unit would need to be sent back to them for repair.RepairMaster offered to cover freight and repair costs they also said I could try a local repair man and they would reimburse me for that.Contacted Living Direct whom I purchased the unit from and told them it was probably not a good idea to advertise/sell an in-home warranty on a product that per manufacturer can't be serviced in home.I decided to roll the dice and call a local repair service to look @ the unit since I was not interested in crating it up and shipping it off.Local repair man (Thank you H&H Appliance Lecompte, LA GREAT SERVICE) replaced a relay in about 30 mins and unit is back up and running.Keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue to work without issue.
Had I known that EdgeStar was a company that would NOT work with local repair companies to replace electronic boards, compressors, etc. especially on such a simple appliance, I would not have purchased this unit.RepairMaster could improve their hold times on the phone, but they came through in the end.Living Direct should be very clear to customers about warranty expectations on this product when selling it to other customers.
Still a little frustrated about bottles fitting in the unit, but the unit still looks good and is VERY quiet.Hope to get a few more years of service...

The shelves are so closely spaced that it is difficult to get the shelves in and out when full of wine bottles and to place and remove Bordeaux bottles. It is impossible to do the same with Burgundy bottles. If you don't mind scraping the labels off your bottles while struggling to get them in and out, then this might work for you. I consider it a big mistake for my needs unfortunately, it's mine now. This wine fridge is great. What you see is what you get.It is seemingly built well and after a month, all is good.It creates about the same level of noise as my kitchen refrigerator. It may hold 46 bottles if they are all small, but fully loaded, my fridge has about 37.The only issue I had was related to changing the side on which the door opens. This is NOT an easy task and the instructions are lacking to say the least.
Here are some tips on how to do it:
The inserts that cover the alternate door handle position holes these are not plugs they actually screw in with a flat blade from the back
The screws for mounting the top door hinge must be removed to switch sides CAREFUL these screws strip extremely easily. I suggest finding the right flat-head screwdriver to fit the phillips-head scews and apply a ton of force the first time or you will spend hours drilling them out.
On the top of the door where the hinge pin goes in, this IS a plug use a very small screwdriver to pop it out
Other than that, best of luck!
