Still working like a charm. Had problems closing due to ice buildup on the freezer compartment but has been cleared up and it is working fine. It does not shake hard when running or make unbearable noises and I keep this in my bedroom. I have owned louder fish tank filters. Good deal if you want something to keep snacks and beverages cold. Couldn't fit a small pizza box in it to give you an idea of the size.

This review is actually in reference to model #HSR17, which apparently has been discontinued. It stopped working after about three months. I contacted Haier and talked to a supervisor named Larry, he said they would send me a new one. It never came, so I called them again and talked to Larry again, he said there was a screwup and he would make sure it was shipped right away. I waited another two and a half weeks, it didn't come. Talked to Larry again, same story again, he doesn't know why it wasn't shipped, he will look into it. Either they are screwing around with me or they are just incompetent. Next I asked for the phone number for their corporate office so that I could complain directly to them, but when you call the number you get redirected to customer service, so you can't talk to anybody above the supervisor level at their customer service center! Tastad's review of this product is accurate and appropriate, but I would like to add some additional information.I bought this GE Profile microwave oven in March of 2006 on the recommendation of Consumer Reports.In September 2009 I am sorry to report that I had to throw it out because it wasn't worth repairing.Consumer Reports gave this GE model their top rating for large microwave ovens.It replaced an old Amana RadarRange that I had used for about 25 years before it burst into flames.The Amana had also received Consumer Reports top rating back then.If I recall, my Amana sold for about twice as much money (in 1981 dollars) as this GE costs in 2006 dollars.Since this microwave oven is more powerful, faster and consumes more electricity than small models, you may need to have a dedicated 20 ampere outlet available for its use.Compared with my old Amana, the GE has a much more uniform distribution of heat when cooking or reheating, probably because the food is rotated on a turntable.As E. J. Tastad found, the defrost cycle is easy to use, gives good distribution of heat and the front panel controls are fairly intuitive.The stainless steel cabinet is attractive and easy to clean.
Unlike my old Amana, this oven cannot multi-task.For example, if you're running the built-in clock timer, you cannot cook or reheat something on a different schedule using different functions.You must stop the clock timer to begin a cook cycle and vice versa.You also cannot program several sequences of automatic operations as my old Amana could accommodate, nor can you program it to start at a later time.
This microwave oven was not as reliable and did not last nearly as long as my old Amana did.The magnetron tube in my GE Profile microwave oven failed after two years of use.It's replacement was covered by the five-year GE warranty on the tube, but the warranty didn't cover the $85 in labor charges, which would have been even more if I had received the service on-site instead of taking the appliance to the appliance repair depot.After 3 1/2 years of use, (September 2009) the main circuit board self-destructed.It cost me $44 at the nearest GE repair facility to learn that it would cost me more than another $200 to replace the microwave oven's circuit board.
Since other brands of similar-sized and power microwave ovens cost less than the repairs, I have discarded this microwave oven after 3 1/2 years and after spending $129 in diagnostic and repair charges in addition to the purchase price.Given this experience, I now be hard-pressed to recommend this appliance considering its cost-of-ownership and short life.This appliance should have lasted much longer.It did not get heavy use and was never misused or abused.
When I contacted GE about my failed microwave oven, they promised to make things right, asked for the model and serial number and requested that I cut off the appliance's power cord and plug and send it to them.They then sent me a $100 rebate check that could be applied ONLY to another GE appliance purchase.The check expired before I found another GE appliance that I wanted to own.
I bought a replacement, which was a Panasonic model NN-SD978S microwave oven for less than $200 from Sam's Club.It is just as large, cooks faster and has proven to be far more reliable.After four years, it's still going strong without need for repairs.
I am very disappointed at the poor reliability of this unit.Ours is less than a year old and has failed--now, when attempting to cook, the unit shuts off before the end of the programmed time.Even though the light comes on and the turntable turns, the unit does not heat food.Like others, I purchased this unit based on the recommendation in Consumer Reports; this recommendation didn't pan out.I tried to schedule warranty service and GE is making us wait a week to schedule and their frustrating telephone system does not provide information on where I can take it for service for faster turnaround (and didn't put me in touch with a live representative).
When the microwave oven worked, it worked fine.We replaced a Sharp unit with this one; though this unit has the advantage of a larger capacity, its controls are less intuitive.
Based on poor reliability and poor service, we're certainly not going to buy another GE microwave.We've had good success with GE refrigerators in the past; this is very disappointing.A quick search on the web now reveals that GE microwave ovens are not reliable--many others appear to have similar problems with the magnetrons.
Perhaps this is one reason why GE is looking to sell its appliance business...

Bottom Line:This is an excellent large microwave for countertop use.The inverter defrost works almost perfectly every time, never cooking my food more than it should, but the reheat is a gimmick.
This is a large countertop microwave, at about 2.2 cubic foot.Coming from an over-the-range microwave this is a huge improvement in size.The microwave heats uniformly and fast (it is 1200 watts).The sensor reheat should only be used on foods it is safe to boil, otherwise it overcooks about everything else.It also works best when you lightly cover the food, as sometimes uncovered food triggers it to turn off too early.Lightly covered is critical, as the sensor works off water vapor temperature being released from the product.If the water vapor cant leave the container it could become superheated.Sensor cook should also only be used under supervision (you should be in the same room).
I have had the microwave for about 6 months now with no issue.It is no louder than other microwaves I have used, and the controls are intuitive and easy to use.You do not have to press a cook button or anything to start your timed cooking.My favorite feature is the inverter defrost.Remember you enter the weight in pounds, so for an 8 oz pack of bacon you would enter "5" and "start" for 1/2 of a pound.If you had a 1.5 pound package of meat, you would enter "15" and "start" for 1.5 pounds.The display shows the weight correctly. Not much else to say about the product, it is a microwave after all.
Update: To improve "sensor reheat" performance, use a lid over the food with a vent hole.I use a paper plate with a small hole (finger tip size) punched in it.This will make sure the reheat stays running long enough, but still gets some water vapor to judge the food temperature by so it doesn't over cook.
Update (6/26/2010): I have been using the microwave 2 years now.It has been no issue and still works perfectly.I use the sensor reheat almost all the time for soups and casseroles, and use the inverter defrost for my frozen goods.I also use the "popcorn" button to heat microwave popcorn bags.Everything has been working great!
Update (7/26/2011): Still going strong.I use the inverter regularly for defrost, or lowering the power level to cook something slower.It has worked well for me, and I think problems might be from shipping, quality control, or some other factor.
Update (3/21/2013): Still going strong, but maybe a bit noisier now.No issue with inverter function or anything.I purchased this microwave in December 2006.On September 9, 2009 it totally went out.My problem seems to be the same as others are describing in these reviews a problem with the inverter technology or "inverter board." It has poor reliability and a high failure rate.The inverter technology is great while it lasts, but the oven goes out after a couple of years.Since it is past the 1-year warranty, it is my tough luck.I called GE Customer Service to get them to recommend an authorized repair facility in my town.The representative was unbelievably rude claiming that my only option was for them to send one of their technicians to my house.That was not an acceptable solution because:1) It was way too expensive for a home visit, and 2) I could not take a day off work (and lose a day's pay) to be there.It would be less expensive to just purchase another microwave.
Needless to say, after this experience, I will never purchase another GE microwave or any other GE product based on how rude the customer service representative was to me.I thought GE was supposed to be a quality brand?My previous (much less expensive) microwave lasted 15 years and it wasn't even supposed to be a quality brand (a Sharp).I strongly advise against purchasing this microwave.When you pay that much for an appliance, it should last more than two years.It seems GE is engaging in a very unethical business practice.So many people are experiencing the same problem I did.GE has to know these ovens go out after a couple of years.Then they try to suck you into giving them more money to repair or replace them and they try to manipulate you into those expensive home service calls.I think we should all boycott GE.
Recently remodeled my kitchen and picked this unit based mostly on looks. I use a microwave mostly for warming up a cup of coffee or the occasional pizza slice (very light use). After owning it for just 45 days, it started smoking and then just cut off it's power while reheating some pasta. Fortunately I was able to return this piece of junk and get a refund. After doing a quick search on the web, I've heard of this exact same problem happening to other unhappy GE customers. One person claimed it started a fire. I have don't know if this is possible, but my GE microwave produced quite a bit of smoke before it turned itself off.

Arrived 2 days after My Whirlpool refrigerator shelf inexplicably failed (I'm not particularly loving that fridge)! It's had several issues and is still pretty young. Went to the Whirlpool web page worthless!Found the shelf part number, 2304235K, from the original parts list $56 on Amazon. Then found a cross reference to W10321304 on another web site. This is supposed to be a newer part number It certainly proved less expensive. It arrived 2 days later and fit perfectly. Not certain, but it feels a little better made. Hope it works out better that the one it replaced.

It is correct that it's not as shown. It's configured a little different and you have to pry off a part from your existing valve. Basically it's an easy swap. Just be patient and make sure your lines are run correctly. I suggest taking a couple of pictures with your phone camera as you remove the old one for easy reference.Ice makers go bad. Most people I know just live with a broken door dispenser. Not Me! I swapped This part (Which I know my original was not working) and the Kenmore Ice Maker Icemaker W10122502 & 2198597 (which was still working, but the teflon coating on the tray was very worn) and the Whirlpool Refrigerator P.C. Control Board Kit 4389102 (which was not lighting up but might have been working). All three parts bought through Amazon (aftermarket parts, but generic ice is fine with me. jk) cost about the same as the control board on other sites ($115).
About an hour for all three parts swaps (I had done a dry run last week while making sure the parts I was ordering were correct for my fridge) then waited about 2 hours and that all familiar rumble of ice dropping into the empty bin was so loud my cockatiel did a few laps around the kitchen.

the part was exactly as described. i had to remove one of the valves and place in the bracket. i think i had to bend the bracket a little bit too. but now my ice machine and water dispenser work!saved me $$$ for a service call and did it my self! oh ive also had this for about a year installed so far no problems what so ever.

Revised 11/29/10: I've owned this fridge only two months and took careful care of it, but it's already broken. The fan bearings went out (and now it will run but with this horrible loud noise). I can't return it, and it's going to cost me half the purchase price to fix it. Not sure it's worth it. Buyer beware. This thing is cute but flimsy and not built to last.Original review, 09/10: I bought this fridge for work to keep my lunch and milk cool so I can avoid the company fridge. It's the perfect size -it holds a quart carton of milk. Right now I also have in it a small Pyrex lunch dish, half a cantaloupe, and a block of cheese -and there's room for more. It's whisper-quiet, low-key, and everything in it is very cold.
One thing to note is that mine, which I ordered through Amazon, does not look like the picture. It's more rounded, the oval on the front is a metal design that looks like a retro refrigerator, and besides a tiny Coca-Cola logo on the top, there are no others (meaning, no big logo on the side or the front). It's very cute, much more so than the picture shown here. It's lightweight and not very big for the amount of space inside. It's also worth noting that there is a small shelf on the inside of the door -very small -but big enough to put an 8 ounce block of cheese in vertically.
That said, I don't know how long it will last. Mine is running 24 hours a day. So far it's the best purchase I've made all year and the price is fantastic, especially compared to other mini fridges that aren't much bigger.

I installed from scratch, with the help of my father in law who is an electrician. Installation was pretty straightforward. Be careful when you're installing the elbow on the hot water inlet, though. I tightened it a little too much and it pushed against the solenoid, jamming it, which wouldn't allow water in the first time we ran it. I backed it off a bit and it's working fine now.
Specs say this model holds 8 complete place settings, where full sized units take 10-12, I think. I'm not sure about how accurate that claim is, on average, but it does hold quite a bit enough for our needs. The manual gives diagrams suggesting how to make the most of the space, thankfully. It can still take a bit of getting used to, though. I quickly found that our large dinner plates (square, 10.25") are about 1/4" too tall to fit in the lower bin without hitting the sprayer. I think they had to set the top rack a little lower than average to allow for the weird double-stacking cup shelf feature up there. Make sure your plates are under 10" in diameter, especially if they're not round, which allows them to drop between the slats in the rack for extra clearance. The silverware trays have removable tops with slots in them to keep your spoons from spooning, etc which ensures that they get clean. You can pop them off to allow loading of larger items, too.
It's very quiet when it's running. I was worried about the fact that there were no noise ratings available anywhere, even from Danby themselves, but it's ended up being a non-issue. Our kitchen, dining room and living room are all one big open contiguous space and we can run a load of dishes without having to turn up the T.V. at the other end of the room. Much quieter than the new entry level Kenmore we had at our previous apartment.
Wash loads use a tiny amount of detergent, around a tablespoon. Our large box of Cascade will probably last us a year or more. I've found that using a rinse aid like Jet Dry is necessary for dishes to dry completely. I'm not sure if that's just because we had to run a drain line extension but the manual implies that that is the case in any situation. Jet Dry is like $4 and I've got the dispenser set on the lowest of 4 settings so I'm sure it'll last quite a while between refills. There's a salt tray for if you have hard water but we'll not be needing that.
I've put a couple of loads through it so far and they've all come out spotless, even on the economy cycle. The cycles take a long time, or at least it seems like they do I guess I never timed my previous dishwashers. Most of the cycles take about 2:45, though. The buttons only have icons on them and I find I need to keep the manual handy to remember which cycles are which but I've only had it a few days.
All in all I'm about as pleased as I can be, sans the issues with the large items fitting, which cost it that 5th star. As long as it holds up well, I give it a hearty recommendation.

I already had an 18" dishwasher (that went bad) plugged into my garbage disposal. So, I figured this wouldn't be the most difficult job to swap in the Danby, and it took 4-6 hours (lunch, & some 12oz curls maybe slowed me down here & there)I'm a casual DIY'er, so this may be too basic for most, but for other's some (hopefully helpful) install feedback.
I also uploaded a few pics to show some details if that helps.
When buying this, just buy one of these "kits" that includes a new water input line (if you don't already have one like this, my current setup had copper pipes), and that also includes the copper 3/4" MIP elbow that you'll need (no, the dishwasher doesn't come with the elbow, you need to buy one) (or just get the elbow if you've already got a braided line): Watts D60U Universal Dishwasher Kit with 3/4-Inch FGH EL, Stainless Steel, 60-Inch. Besides that, you'll also need plumbers tape, some tools, & your beverage of choice. Oh, if you want, on Youtube there are videos of how to install a dishwasher that'll walk you through it as well. I'd say if you've already got one there that you are replacing, and you have some DIY know-how you should be able to do this pretty easy (I called and got 2 quotes, from $100-200 for the install), but got bored & figured I'd give it a try.
--Yes, the instructions for the electrical hookup on page 2 of the manual are for some other machine. On the Danby, there's a skinny green ground already under a screw, and another big green wire in the piggy tail. I just stripped another 3/8" of sheath away on the ground wire in the piggy tail, so I had plenty of exposed wire to wrap around the house's thinker gauge ground wire (spread out the thinner strands of wire when wrapping around the bigger gauge wire, so more contact points), and then used a wire cap (keep screwing the cap until it won't screw in any more). I am not an electrician, so take any advice at your own risk, but that's what my uncle (that knows his stuff) told me to do & seemed to work fine (see customer pictures)
--Yes, the Danby is very short in height, pretty much had to max out the legs. HINT: Take some white-out & mark a corner on each of the feet. Screw them in all the way. Get 1 at the correct height, and "count" the rotations up to that point (each time the white-out comes around), then just rotate the other 3 legs out the same # of rotations. Should be level as is (or pretty dang close).
--At first you are confused where to "route" the water hose & discharge hose, but once you raise up the legs you'll have tons of space underneath the dishwasher.
--The manual is literally backwards, you should start on the last page, & work backwards. Even the "checklist" before turning it on the 1st time is on page 2 :)
--The manual says to have the elbow for the water input pointing "left" but try as I might, perhaps b/c of the threading on the elbow, I couldn't get it tight (& not leaking water) in any position except pointing to the right. Oh well, the braided hose doesn't seem to have a problem with this (see the picture)
--The discharge hose on the Danby is already hooked on, and has a funky curve right where it connects, so I didn't want to bother using a different discharge hose. But, the stock discharge hose wasn't long enough to reach my garbage disposal (given that you should have a point in your discharge line "higher" than the disposal, so water doesn't run back into the dishwasher). So, I just got a coupler (3/4") and hose clamped them together. The manual said you can have a total of 10' of discharge hose which is right what I was at (if you went 15' etc not sure the pump would clear the line?) Anyways, ran a few loads, everything seems to drain just fine (see pic of the coupler as well).
Other random notes:
-don't over-tighten the elbow, might break something.
-Do NOT use your knee to back the machine into the cabinet space, the front stainless panel isn't reinforced so you could dent it. Also, don't get mad when your team loses in the playoffs and kick it.
-STAINLESS STEEL CARE: if you've already got stainless appliances, you probably already have your care routine, but something a sales guy taught me once was using a "micro-fiber" towel to apply the stainless cleaner/polish. Supposedly the micro-fibers get into the fine grain of the steel and does a better job than a normal cloth getting grease off and laying a layer of wax to protect against finger prints. Not sure if this is an urban myth, but works for me. I would put a coat of stainless cleaner/polish on right away before your dog starts throwing his slobber on it.
-Noise--definitely quieter than my old Frigidaire, but if it isn't quiet enough for you, then just use the delayed start timer, so just load up & have it run after the movies are over, no biggie.
-If you have to stop it half-way through a cycle (& its full of water), you can't just manually toggle the control to a "drain" cycle to start over. Fix I found was to run the shortest cycle (the one on the right, Rinse? its only 8 minutes).
-Be sure to show your significant other the dish loading instructions, so you don't have to fight over the best way to load it:)
-Nice that it has a spray arm on the top rack, my last dishwasher didn't, should be a big improvement.
-The dish racks on this Danby are the same width as my last Frigidaire, but they are indeed 2 inches shorter (front to back). So, yes, there is a small loss of space. But, I didn't feel like paying $300 more for a GE for just a few inches, especially since this Danby has got great reviews both here & on HD's site (and besides a few dud machines, most complaints are typical of "any" 18" dishwasher, so not sure what's not to like at this great price point...usually when you see something priced almost half of other machines it means its inferior, but all the reviewers have loved this Danby, and I don't have anything to complain about either after my first 2 loads)
-If you are looking for the Serial # for your online warranty, its not on the tag when you open the door like normal, its listed on the "right" cross-brace when you remove the kicker panel.
-The SLEEP DELAY timer is a little confusing at first, because it doesn't mark passing time by the minute, only in 30 minute decreasing intervals (so at first you'll think its not working, come back in 30 minutes, you'll see the time will have reduced by 30).
-The delivery guys were right on time, really can't beat this with Prime (free) delivery for $441, $25 universal install kit, and DIY install

Overall this is a nice little unit, which is very appealing to look at.This was a direct replacement for a old 18" dishwasher mounted into my cabinets.Will say that the over-all height of this unit vs. the old unit is a few inches (2"-3") shorter-so I had to adjust the legs quite a bit to accomodate, and now need to add baseboard moulding underneath and around the bottom run of cabinets to hide the opening/ water and electrical connection points not a big deal.Cleans dishes very well, and do recommend that you lower the top rack down to the lowest of the 2 settings, as this will gain you a bit more capacity for dishes (still less capacity than that of my old unit). Also, it should be noted that this unit does not have a heater for drying dishes, so don't be suprised if you need to open the door at the end of the cycle (ave run time 2.75hrs) to allow for air circulation to dry.Overall very impressed, and would recommend this to anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive way to update/replace a similar unit for a stainless steel model.

We replaced our broken 18 inch dishwasher with this Danby andcan't believe how much smaller our loads are. We can get half the amount of glasses and no big bowls compared to our last 18 inch. Kinda sad, but it does clean well. It does have an on/off button, which I don't like. I do like the delayed start option, since we would always forget to start it before bed with our old one.There aren't many 18 inch dishwashers out there so for the price it's seems OK. We'll see how long it lasts.

There are some complaints out there, but be sure to differentiate complaints about the actual model and an 18-inch energy efficient dishwasher in general.Let me address some other people's complaints:
Cycles take a long time: That is tradeoff of energy efficiency and getting Energy Star approval.It's never an issue for me.I don't run the dishwasher because I need something 'now', I run it and forget about it.
On/Off switch stopped working: Any product can have an issue.This one has an 18 month warranty, longer than the standard 12.Mine has worked perfectly for a year.
Has an on/off button: Seriously, that's a problem?
Can't fit a lot in there: With any compact dishwasher, your existing dishes might not fit exactly how you had hoped.Standard size round dishes will fit fine.I spent a few bucks for some shorter, smaller glasses that fit better in the dishwasher than my existing tall ones did.
I had mine professionally installed because I did not have an existing dishwasher.If you are replacing one the same size most people could probably do it themselves.
If you are looking for an 18 inch dishwasher at the low/mid end, this should be at the top of your list.

I first thought of the BeerTender from Heineken as the 5L kegs are simple, easy to use and a big hit at parties and keeping the beer cool and out of the fridge is a challenge.While in a specialty shop I saw several other foreign brands of beer also in 5L kegs, but to my surprise, their tap was at the bottom like a Gatorade cooler.I then learned that the Heineken Draft kegs have an internal pressure system and that the Beertender would only work with that particular type of keg.
The Search:
At first it didn't really matter that much to me because I love Heineken and Heineken Light.After seeing the variety of beers available in the 5L minikegs, I decided to start shopping for a kegerator that would work with more than just the Draftkeg line.A low price was important, but so was functionality and reliablility.While searching, I found several other options with most looking similar and having the same features.You can go crazy and get one of the $300+ models out there, but I'd only recommend doing that if you have that kind of cash-flow to spend on a counter-top beer dispenser.
The Product:
The EdgeStar Mini Kegerator jumped out at me first because of its low price, and second, because it's identical to the more expensive Avanti MBD5L Mini Kegerator.(Note: Although the Edgestar doesn't display a drip tray like the Avanti, one is included.)For about $50, you can purchase a CO2 kit to tap and use non-pressurized 5L kegs from any other brewer (I've even seen it suggested that home-made beer can be placed in such a keg.)The kit comes with three 16-Gram CO2 cartridges (the small silver ones that you can pick up at Walmart) which are enough to dispense 3 or more 5L kegs.If you don't feel like replacing the cartridge every time you change the keg out, the space provided for the CO2 canister is large enough to accommodate a larger (340-Gram) CO2 Cylinder which is enough to dispense up to 20 5L kegs!The EdgeStar comes with a direction booklet, a cleaner bottle to wash out the system, an AC cable and DC cable, and an adapter for the Heineken Draft kegs.

As I'm sure with many people looking for a 5 liter keg unit I was torn between the various ones out there and the Krupps BeerTender. I chose the Edgestar due to the low price, looks and the additional ability to utilise a CO2 cannister, which the BeerTender cannot. As far as I know the Heineken 5L keg is the only keg to come with its own CO2 built-in and only such kegs are usable with the Krupps model. Therefore, whilst I'm a Heineken fan, the BeerTender completely limits your choice of drinkto Heineken or Heineken Light.
So I bought the Edgestar, sight unseen and I'm very glad I did. It's a light-weight unit comprising mostly of chrome plastic and a few actual chrome parts, and overall looks great and feel sturdy. The drip tray (not shown in the picture but supplied) is well thought out and easy to remove when full. The door is opened by a small button on top and swings outward. You only have to open it a short amount to place a keg in it, offering a small footprint for the unit. The keg is cooled by a plate and you have a blue backlit display indicating current temperature which is adjustable using the chrome buttons. There is also a small blue led inside the cabinet which is nice although not bright it can be toggled on and off using the lower button on the front of the display.
The tap is solid. I was completely surprised by how firm it is and it works a treat. The small black beer tap is removable and so you could replace it with one of your own if you had the right sized thread.
The unit is supplied with an AC and a DC lead so you could power it from a car/RV/boat. It also comes by default with a Heineken keg connector which was supremely easy to attach.
A final sweetner is the ability to clean the lines, which the BeerTender amazingly does not have (you have to buy a new line for each and every keg you use with the Krupps). The Edgestar comes with a small plastic bottle which I filled with 2 parts water and 1 vinegar and it clips onto the line and you simply squeeze it as you open the tap. Took 20 seconds.
Now I haven't purchased the optional CO2 kit yet, choosing initially to use up my Heineken kegs, but I have no fear that the kit will work as advertised. The small black circle to the right of the tap that you see in the picture is for a CO2 gauge to fit into, and the CO2 bottle sits inside the unit so it's all tucked away neatly.
Ultimately, very happy with the unit and had my first pint last night.

For a while now I've wanted a kegerator for the bar/theater, but I've lacked the space for a full(or even mid-) sized one. So today, despite some iffy reviews here and there, I bought an Edgestar mini-kegerator to sit on top of the mini-fridge in my bar.This little machine keeps a 5L beer keg chilled at 38 degrees and delivers the perfect amount of head for a pint glass...only you get used to the pour speed and nozzle strength. The unit is pretty much like the Krups BeerTender machines that support Heineken and Newcastle, but this one also supports non-pressurized mini-kegs. I have to admit that I'm not a beer expert by any means, but when I heard that Newcastle was FINALLY available in Atlanta in the 5L size, I jumped all over this.
After a short 4 hours with the unit, I'm breathing a sigh of relief (between beer pours, that is). As I mentioned above, reviews have been hit or miss. Some people complained the non-pressurized conversion kits weren't yet available. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I had no problem ordering the Edgestar-branded one two days ago, and it even arrived before the main unit itself. Some others complained Heineken was the only act in town. My local stores have all kinds of non-pressurized beers, in addition to the Heineken and Newcastle kegs, so again I'm probably just lucky to live in a fairly large city. Some folks said the unit was just cheap plastic junk. That last point will probably be true for me at some point, as the unit is just plastic and faux chrome, but at $140 I couldn't have expected too much more.Someone somewhere said that the door was constantly ajar and the cooling plate couldn't do its job.From what I've heard and now seen firsthand, this just isn't a problem.My mini-kegs set nicely on the cooling plate inside the unit and I'm able to close the door completely and securely.
My only complaints so far are 1) the internal fan or whatever parts make it go are a bit louder than I'd like, and 2) I dislodged a washer in the plastic cleaning solution bottle that came with it. The second part was just stupidity on my part when I first flushed the lines, and it's totally fixable, but the former point is indeed a minor inconvenience. It's no louder than my ice maker or mini-fridge, but it's something else whirring in the back of the theater. Oh well.
So at this point, my margarita machine quest is on the back-burner indefinitely as I work on my beer pour perfection and fish out that stupid washer in the cleaning bottle. But for anyone in my shoes who may be considering one of these units but afraid of the spotty older reviews of the unit, I'm pretty pleased so far.

I originally wrote this review for what I think is a different model of kegerator by this same company.After reviewing both listings, this is clearly the model I own, but the other model doesn't contain enough information on the Amazon page for me to tell if it's a duplicate of this one, or another model entirely.I lean towards the former.Off we go...The reason I chose this kegerator is because the vast majority of kegerators on the market 1) only take Newcastle or Heineken pre-pressurized mini kegs, or 2) are really expensive. I'm not a huge macrobrew fan, so the fact that this model will accomodate non-pressurized 5-liter kegs is a huge plus. It's essentially the only reason I wanted it.
Now, if you're going to use the pre-pressurized kegs, it's a very easy process with only a few steps to get set up. If you're using non-pressurized kegs, it's a little more involved.
General Principles:
-CHILL YOUR KEG. If you don't chill your keg for at least 12 hours, you will get warm, gross, flat beer.
-Read the instructions. Especially when dealing with non-pressurized kegs.
-If you want to use this with non-pressurized kegs, you MUST buy the C02 adaptor kit. I've read some reviews indicating they were very hard to find. My wife got one with no issues.
-When using the C02 kit with non-pressurized kegs, ensure that 1) you keep the beer-to-tap supply line as straight and level as possible, and 2) keep the pressure valve set so that the C02 flow is extremely low-to-nonexistent for the first few pours, otherwise the first pints will be nearly all foam; increase the pressure in increments with each additional pint to maintain a proper head on your beer.
-Be sure to buy food-grade C02 cylinders, not sporting (paintball, bb etc). Sporting C02 often contains oil.
Upsides:
-Variable temperature settings.
-Compatible with all 5-liter kegs (with adaptor).
-Draft beer in your home. Can you beat that? No. No you can't.
-Once it's set up, it's easy to use and clean. No need to purchase new lines after each keg (as in the Krups Beer Tender); just use the included cleaning kit, water, and a little vinegar.
-With the adaptor, use any available 5-liter keg.
-If you homebrew, you can find brand-new, empty 5-liter kegs on Amazon. You can keg-condition 5-liters of your own beer and dispense it as a draft in your own home. How cool is that?
Downsides:
-It's not heavy metal construction, so you'll need to be a little gentle, especially until you get a feel for the tap.Don't yank that thing, be kind!
-Instruction manual is not terribly user-friendly. Take your time to study it, especially when using the C02 adapter kit. They could have done a much better job with the pictures and step-by-steps.Of course, it may help if you refrain from drinking while you're setting it up.
-When using the C02 adaptor: If you're obsessed with a perfect pour of beer, you'll need some practice with the C02 settings to make sure your foam-to-beer ratio is right.
Another thing worth noting, which I don't consider a downside, is that there aren't currently a ton of mini-kegs available. Other than the pre-pressurized Newcastle and Heineken, most everything else I've seen are German beers (Hefeweizen, Kolsch, Dortmunder, Pilsner, Maibock, Schwarzbier, Rauchbier, Kellerbier) in limited variety. Fortunately, most these are from good breweries (Einbecker, Reischdorff, Kulmbacher, Kostritzer, etc) and I like those styles of beer. However, you're not really going to find much in the way of American beers on here, especially if you like microbrews. Coors Light I understand is test marketing a 5-liter keg. HOWEVER, if you are a fan of Bell's Oberon summer beer (and who isn't), they DO offer 5-liter kegs of it. Oh frabjous day!

I ordered this unit because I was angry that Heineken & Krups effectively doubled the price of their plastic tap units, which must be used (a new one with each minikeg you use) with the Krups. The EdgeStar unit requires no replacement tap parts. It does require cleaning--a very easy process but you do need to be conscientious about it. It is superior to the Krups in nearly every way. The pour is smoother. Replacing the keg is easier. The refrigerated part of the unit is much easier to clean and dry. And of course you don't need the taps at nearly $2 a pop.
If you want your beer ice cold, this unit is not quite to Krups, as the EdgeStar goes to 38, Krups 36. Made no difference to me, might to you.
I did not try or try to buy the conversion kit. I just use this with the pre-CO2'd Heineken and Newcastle minikegs.
And, please remember: The kegs need to be cold when you put them in. Otherwise you need to wait 10+ hours. If you want your beer fast, icy cold and with no head--stick to bottles. If you want good keg beer, this is a good dispenser for it.

I want to hug this thing every morning! But I won'tthat way lies madness. Besides, I don't think DH would like it. Why am I so happy? Because..I had a 25 year old, noisy Sub Zero for which I could no longer find parts. It had to go. Unfortunately, we had remodeled the kitchen around it. So I thought I was stuck with another Sub Zero. Why do I say "stuck"? Aren't Sub Zeros the very best? Well, call me a rube , but to me it was essentially a shinier, shallower, taller, louder version of my cheap Sears fridge in the basement.Not to mention that a new Sub Zero costs over $8000, for Pete's sake!What to do? Enter the KitchenAid counter depth French door fridge. Fantastic. For about $6000 less Ihave a fridge that takes up less space but has more room inside.(It's magic!) The counter depth fits perfectly in the space where the Sub Zero loomed. The KitchenAid is pretty and quiet and well organized on the inside. Now I have a new, quiet, (did I mention quiet?) fridge with more room inside. It has an interior filtered water dispenser, an excellent deli drawer,(wide and shallow so you can see everything) see -thru veggie bins, and even a neat little scoop in the ice bin. The doors open and close independently of one another. I also like having two smaller doors instead of one heavy door. The water filter is within easy reach in the top of the fridge.
The freezer is also well organized. The ice bin can be rolled out of the way to make use of the space beneath. The freezer also has bins which might , for example, keep melted Popsicle goo from leaking all over the freezer and the floor and the ceiling beneath. Just in case.
AND my cabinet maker is going to put a new shelf in the space that opened up over theKitchenAid. (The Sub Zero was 12" inches taller). I finally have a place to store those huge trays my mother gave me for Christmas. More fridge taking up less space for less moneywhat's not to like?
We purchased this fridge last summer after completing a kitchen remodel.We have the unit in white (which is magnetic) because we did our kitchen in B&W.We considered a black model but chickened out.I should say that one door bracket was bent when we received it (though it still opened and closed) but they sent us a new one ASAP which was easy to replace.
What do I like about the fridge:Large interior, holds 2 gallons of milk on the DOOR, easily holds a pizza box, even though counter depth.Controls are easy to read, and intuitive...set temp by actual temp.Counterdepth is great...nothing gets lost in the back of the fridge and it fits in the room great.Bottom freezer is much better than I expected, everything used to always fall out of my old top freezer.French doors open and close easily (maybe this is obvious, but I was uncertain how it would work).Water dispenser in fridge is fast and cold.Shelves come out very easily for cleaning.Ice cube maker is fast, quiet, and there no melting and refreezing of icecubes like in my older fridge.
What I like less:It is tall, which is good for me, but less so for the kids.Deli drawer is somewhat hard to get back in once you take it out.Somewhat hard to balance to get the doors even, but once you do this you are done forever.Water dispenser drips for a second after you stop.
Over all, this fridge was a great purchase.We'll see how it lasts.

We previously had an LG stainless steel French Door refrigerator, and it was fine, but we had to leave it behind when we moved. When shopping for the right refrigerator for the new home, I did a ton of research and decided on this one for 2 reasons: 1) all of the built-in appliances in the new house are Kitchenaid, and 2) this model is not only counter-depth, but it's 72" tall. We were thrilled when it arrived as it fits beautifully into the space and it matches the rest of the kitchen.But when we started actually using it, I realized how very glad I am that we left that LG model behind! The drawers, both in the refrigerator and freezer, glide smoothly, and I love that the door shelves are lined. The deli drawer is great, because we can lay everything out in a single layer and see everything easily. We also love the water dispenser inside (the exterior keeps a very clean and simple look, as a result) and that it can be used to fill pitchers. Clear-faced vegetable drawers: my sister and I were making dinner, and she saw me open the vegetable drawer to look inside. She asked, "why did you open the drawer to see what's in it?" I chuckled to myself. Old habits die hard! But yes, you can see what's in the drawers without having to open them I'll just have to get used to the awesomeness.
The interior is also much roomier than I expected! Granted, we do have a 2nd refrigerator in our utility room, but it is currently empty we'll probably use the 2nd one for overflow during the holidays. This one is sufficient in size for our every day needs.
As for keeping the stainless steel beautiful, based on other reviews, I purchased the Weiman wipes, and they definitely do the trick on ALL of our Kitchenaid stainless appliances (they are fantastic!)
We made several large appliance purchases for the new house, and, by far, this refrigerator has been my favorite.

This model KFCS22EVMS in less than a year has leaked water on the side and flooded my kitchen floor for days. Once the repair company serviced it. The same leaking problem occur the following month! So frustrating. I called to extend the warranty, had to speak to a supervisor to consider a one time service free of charge. Brand new refrigerator shouldn't have any problem. Should have kept my old refrigerator which has been problem free for decades!There is not enough room in the bottom freezer to store. Never will I buy this refrigerator had I known this problem. Stainless steel look is nice but quality of product is poor! Very , very disappointed with this refrigerator !
